Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

OP posts:

I also meant to say id love to hear birth story if you'd be so kind..

milliemuffin · 28/05/2011 23:16

BP - that was with DD, my 2nd DC. I sat on it loads with DS aswell but his head was just too big for me to push out on my own :(

GV - sooo pleased to hear about your baby girl. Huge congratulations :)
Can't wait to hear the details!

I'm feeling quite chirpy tonight which is scary as that's how I was when my waters went with both DC but I know I've still got a couple of weeks yet. Night all xx

Ps. Sasa I'll never be able to look at this in the same way ever again! Shock

sasamaxx · 29/05/2011 00:34

lol milliemuffin me neither Shock

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 29/05/2011 05:40

Good morning all and Congratulations GoodVibrations GrinGrin. Feel like I should offer baby sitting so I can have cuddles our new Mum's can get some sleep, as after 2 hours awake already I'm obviously up for the duration.

Hmm still haven't got the moses basket yet, so keeping my mouth and legs firmly closed.

The good news is my cyst has shrunk dramatically over night, so it looks like I'm on track to being a plain old PGP achingfanjo again (and no need to worry about strange things bursting at the wrong time) Grin

Merlion · 29/05/2011 06:26

Congrats GV - weird that your dd was born 3 minutes before mine (although mine really 6 hours 57 minues before)!

Anyway if anyone interested, I started having contractions on Thursday morning but as I was induced with DS I wasn't really sure that they weren't just BH's. So went to work as normal for my last day. Nothing progressed so after the launch thing that I was attending I got home about 7.30pm so say goodnight to DS. Went downstairs for dinner at about 8.30 contractions feeling a bit stronger and more frequent. Couldn't face dinner and by about 9.30pm we decided to go to the hospital. Was still thinking they'd probably send me home again as no show and waters still in tact but contractions were about 5-6 minutes apart. Was checked over and was 4-5cm dilated. They called my doctor and she arrived about 20 minutes later. Things progressed quite quickly after that got to about 9cm and they were still saying the head hadn't descended far enough for me to start pushing so I asked if I could have some other pain relief (was just on g&a till then). Midwife said she'd go check with the doctor. She and doctor came back in, doctor checked me over and said right you're ready to push and out she popped so no more pain relief but really was very quick in the end.

We are back at home now. A tough night last night as DS a bit restless too. Slowly getting the hang of feeding but sore nipples already. She is very reluctant to be put in her moses basket.

I think we are all still in shock that it happened so quickly and also we hadn't finished preparations at home. She also seems so tiny compared to DS (who was 8lbs 11).

MOSP I think it was you anyway - Rosina is my Grandma's middle name too - she's named after her and Peggy is DH's Grandma's name.

milliemuffin · 29/05/2011 07:31

Congrats Merlion and thanks for sharing your story. My DD popped out very quickly, literally as I arrived at the hospital so I know how that feels! Both my DC's hated the Moses to start with but if you lay them in it onto a tshirt that you've worn for a while the smell does help. Or just lay it next to them so it's easier to take away (but I found DS liked to lay on it but he was a summer baby).
Good luck with the feeding xx

motherofsnortpigs · 29/05/2011 07:59

Well done GV ! Birth is great when it all goes to plan :) Lots of cramping here still. Keep telling myself it's all doing something...

jasmine51 · 29/05/2011 08:06

Well done GV and welcome to the world little GV. Another girl in the club .....my LO is getting very excited about the prospect of all these girls waiting for him!

Had the worst nights sleep ever last night - had spent the day crumpled up over the sewing maching making curtains for the nursery so had a crippled back then the hips kicked off too and to cap it all LO was doing gymnastics all night so really think I slept for about 2 hours. Got up and came downstairs to the smell of Delias smoked haddock Waitrose recipe from last night and that really made my day!

MOSP do we have another snort pig in the world yet?

Right, stay up and get busy or go back to bed?

jasmine51 · 29/05/2011 08:07

Ha ha MOSP coincidental x post!

CitizenOscar · 29/05/2011 08:21

Congratulations GV - glad to hear all is well with you and mini-GV :)

BarbieLovesKen · 29/05/2011 08:39

Pml - I didnt "get" the Shock until now (dim emoction) Grin

confessions really pleases to hear about your cyst.

merlion thanks so much for sharing your birth story, despite this being my third (and therefore you'd imagine I'd know what to look out for) I too was induced with dd and with ds my waters broke at the onset of labour so I knew it was it (as opposed to is that just bra ton hicks), found your story really helpful. Sorry to hear You've had a bad night, you must be exhausted after having literally no maternity leave/ time to prepare before Rosina arrived, I know when I finished work and college I was knackered and my house was a tip so you really have my sympathies. Be kind to yourself.

Feel completely unreasonable for moaning already (because I'm just one teeny day past due date, because thorny, you must be feeling a damn site worse, because Im lucky enough that this baby has reached full term and. Because it's hardly a shock-I knew full well from the beginning that this baby would be late) but all my talk of not being bothered when she came/ not minding another week or two of pregnancy/ being very relaxed and patient over the whole thing have completely gone out the window and I'm suddenly, despite being very concerned about coping with the small age gap between her and ds desperate for her to come.

It's only a day and I know I'm being unreasonable for moaning and I know due dates are only an estimate anyway but I feel like the overdue fairy must have visited me in my sleep last night, and cast her overdue spell on me. I now feel rotten and too pregnant and too uncomfortable and desperate to meet my baby. Kept waking last night to wee/ take sips of gaviscon/ with painful bra ton hicks/ attempts to turn and my latest symptom, terrible leg cramps. I know, I need to kick myself up the bum, stop moaning and accept that potentially, I could be here for another 2 weeks. In the meantime, the rest of you will just have to put up with me continuing to post constantly as I've everything ready and organised, my house spotless and just to maintain and I've now got an iPhone so mumsnet is constantly at my fingertips.

Oh and if anyone would like to feel good about themselves, wanna hear just how much weight I've put on to date? You'll be shocked by this one!!!!
B

Moog72 · 29/05/2011 08:55

Congratulations GV! Would love to hear your birth story :)

Another girl! Statistically, lots of us having surprises much surely be having boys!

Has anyone investigated / bought some Breastfeeding tops? Am thinking it would be good to have a few items that make it easy to breatsfeed discretely. If you've got any recommendations for reasonably priced stuff I'd be interested...

Merlion thanks for sharing your story which is really positive and lovely!

Lots of people still cramping etc - fingers crossed something happens soon :)

sasamaxx · 29/05/2011 09:30

Oh Barbie - you def need some (((((Barbie)))))
So sorry you're feeling so fed up Sad
Chin up - I know it's awful waiting - I'm so miserable and I've not even reached my due date yet - just remembering what it was like with DS being 12 days late and it was awful. It will happen soon - probably when you least expect it.

You too MOSP - my cramping comes and goes randomly - driving me mad.

Moog I've only ever had the h&m feeding tops but have never got on with them - the slits are far too small and you end up trying to squeeze your boob through the hole to find the nipple and making an ass of yourself. Much easier just to wear normal loose-ish tops and lift them up I think. Lots of people wear stretchy camisole-type tops under normal tops and then lift their top up, and pull the cami down so that they are still all covered.

Jasmine I so hate it when the house smells of the previous day's dinner - esp if it's something like fish - you have my sympathies.

Merlion thanks for your birth story - sounds very quick at the end but you don't sound at all traumatic so that's a good result.

Come on babies - today is a good day to be born Grin

knackered76 · 29/05/2011 09:32

Congratulations NMH and GV Grin Fab news of the safe arrivals of your mini ones :)

Barbie I feel your pain :( I was the same with ds and had a total fit the evening he was due and hadn't made an appearance!

SasaComedy use of Shock Grin . . . will also be keeping that theory away from dh!

Confessions Glad to hear you are reducing in size Grin Fingers crossed it all disappears before the big day!

Joanne I had a chest infection a couple of weeks ago and pulled a bump muscle and one in my back as well. The doctor gave me a course of antibiotics and an inhaler which I think helped a bit so might be worth asking about if it doesn't clear up for you.

Woke up this morning with period type pains that lasted a few hours. Lay in bed thinking, hmm is this the start (you'd think I'd know being my third Blush). Turned over to tell dh that maybe he had better not go golfing this morning and discovered he had already left (guessing somewhere along the line I fell asleep again)! Good job, for him, the pains have stopped and all seems boringly normal again :) Not due until Saturday but had a severe case of wishful thinking Grin

Have lovely sundays ladies :)

sasamaxx · 29/05/2011 09:54

Totally forgot to say that's great news about the cyst Confessions

knackered I think I'm worse this time with the 'is it or isn't it' feelings

Every time I see a Shock I snigger like a school-kid now Wink

Thornykate · 29/05/2011 10:45

Good morning ladies

Conratulations Goodvibrations ! Very glad to hear that you are both ok, well done! x

I am quite a bit less grumpy this morning & I am putting it down to being so tired last night that I slept very well & DPs snoring didn't disturb me & I don't think I woke up much with the PGP & not at all with the rib pain; I must have been out for the count. Maybe that's when the overdue fairy comes to visit Barbie as she definately gave me a huge dose of the blues yesterday. Sending you lots of love today & labour soon vibes :) I think regardless of how overdue/ near the due date we get, when we've had enough we've had enough!

I had a meltdown last night as DP wanted to take us to the cinema instead of doing The Big Shop to get me out of the house. I can see now in the cold light of day that was a sweet thing for him to do but last night I ended up sat on the bed crying (am not a cryer so this v out of character for me) as I am sick of being big & wearing the same bloody clothes regardless of where I am going. Basically I couldn't face wearing either the same baggy old jeans etc with a long black top OR work clothes. I can cope with looking like that on the school run or supermarket but not in town on a busy Saturday night. But I put my face on & went & ate a load of nachos with extra jalapenos in another attempt to heat the baby out. Still nada.

Notoast you have no idea how much better I feel knowing that it's not only my DP who is clueless re birthing! FWIW I still am suprised when I have a baby at the end of pg; I spend at least the first 24hrs looking at the new baby with shock & awe that it's 'mine'.

Nurse I had cankles with DS's 1&2 but no BP problems, I know quite a few women who can't wear their rings etc in pg due to swelling as par for the course so hopefully it's just another pg niggle for you but hope it eases soon.

Have a fantastic meal tonight 8rd I bet it will be lovely.

Loved that link thanks Kara ! And millie I think my patience with just sitting on the ball has all but evaporated hence the bouncing but I will try & tone it down to a gentler pace. Sounds like it worked for you though & it is comfy to sit on so I will keep getting on it.

sasa thanks for making me laugh with the Shock I too will never see it in the same light!

BP well done for persevering regardless of toilet breaks Grin

Glad to hear you are on the mend confessions

Sounds like you didn't get chance to catch your breath merlion hope that baby gives you chance to rest a little over the next few days, well done though x

jasmine I so feel for you re the lingering cooking smells; I have avoided cooking loads of stuff during this pg as I just can't stomach food/ cooking smells.

mosp hope the crampings progress for you in the nicest possible way! it is strange to wish such pains on someone but I know you know what I mean.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday :)

PerpetualProvocateur · 29/05/2011 11:33

Hi ladies, hope everyone is having a nice bank holiday weekend, rubbish weather and all. I?m 37+2 today and the birth ball is quickly becoming the only place I can sit comfortably for more than about 20 minutes.

I?ve continued nesting and am a little Blush that I spent quite a while ironing baby linens and clothes yesterday, which I?ll probably never do again in my life! But he is the PFB after all. Wink We also bought a camcorder to film all of the baby?s firsts and such, and I?m considering letting DH or my mum film at least part of the birth (not a close-up of his head crowning or anything, just tastefully from a bit of a distance)! I probably wouldn?t show it to anyone else, but thought it might be nice to have, especially if we do it at home. Is anyone else planning to make a birth video?

Congratulations GoodVibrations! Yes, please, to more details about the birth!

Merlion, thanks for sharing your birth story! Glad things went quickly and smoothly for you!

Kara, thanks for the link to the other thread. I know I can insist on my homebirth, especially as there doesn?t seem to be a true medical reason why I couldn?t have one, but I have become increasingly frustrated about my MW?s attitude. I really feel like she?s trying to scare me out of a homebirth based on her own bias in favour of hospital births, and I?m at the point where I no longer trust her judgment. I am going to speak to the MW supervisor to see whether it is possible to ensure that my MW doesn?t attend my homebirth, as I feel that her presence would make me tense and stressed out, eliminating a lot of the benefits of doing this at home in the first place. She has already said things like ?if your BP rises during labour, we?ll have to transfer you to hospital? and for no apparent reason gone on and on about what-if scenarios regarding excessive blood loss in the third stage. I want someone attending whom I can trust if they claim I need a hospital transfer in the moment, and not someone whom I feel is sitting there waiting for something to go wrong IYSWIM.

Nurse, thanks for the reassurance about fundal height. I think my MW?s ?concern? was another tactic to scare me out of planning a homebirth. I?ve also got swollen feet/ankles all the time lately?I?m really looking forward to them returning to normal size!

Barbie, I am not looking forward to everyone checking in a million times to see whether the baby has arrived, as I think he?s going to be late! BTW, I?ve also put on a Shock amount of weight (the traditional use of that smiley, not the new one!). I?ll tell if you tell?

Moog, I bought a couple of BF tops from Jojo Maman Bebe, a bit pricey but they?re nice.

Jasmine, all the boys on this thread do seem to be rather comfortable and taking their time to make their appearances!

Prisoner, please do share your tips for avoiding getting weed on during nappy changes! Grin

8RD and Thorny, thanks for the comments about my photos! I should be getting the CD from the photographer soon and will put a couple directly on my profile, as my favourites aren?t all on the blog post.

NurseSunshine · 29/05/2011 11:50

Congratulations GoodVibrations!!!

Perpetual and Barbie I have put on a disgraceful amount of weight. Will just have to deal with it when baby's here, there aint nothing I can do right now. Who's gonna be brave and spill the beans first?

Perpetual sorry you've got an unsupportive midwife. Would she be attending the labour? Hopefully she wouldn't be on call that night. Try to stick to your guns and make sure she knows you won't stand for any bull.

Nice one about the cyst Confessions!

Merlion Thanks for the birth story :) Sounds like you're coping really well despite it being tough at times.

Thorny I hope you're putting your feet up today and letting that son and DH of yours look after you!

sasamaxx · 29/05/2011 11:59

I've put on between 3 and 3.5 stone. Not bothered about it Smile

crazychic141187 · 29/05/2011 12:05

GoodVibrations Congratulations on your baby girl!

Barbie I did try number three on your list for erm starting labour - needless to say it didn't work. (TMI Alert!!) As it was getting to the climax, he hit my gag reflex and it made me sick! Luckily I ran to the bathroom in time but not sure i'll be trying that one again! And seeing as we can't have sex in the traditional way looks like im up the creek without a paddle (quite literally) :o

Confessions Im glad your cyst had shrunk that sounded quite painful!

MOSP I hope something kicks off for you soon with your cramping feelings. I've had nothing of the sort and I'm really willing myself to feel these pains - which is a very strange thing to wish upon yourself!

I went to my friends wedding last night and had to sit down for the whole time coz the music they had chosen was very dancy music and I really didn't want my bump getting elbowed! But that did result in my bruised coccyx becoming very sore so im thinking I'll have to sit on the ball for most of the day to deal with the pain!

Two people asked me at the wedding last night if I'd eaten a lot of pies and it really got on my nerves - clearly im pregnant but no they think its funny to assume I've been eating too much! Grrr! But on the plus side everyone said I look petite seeing as I only have just over a week to go I liked that one!

Still haven't had the results back from the haematologist so who knows what is up with my blood and I have resigned myself to the fact that I am going to have the baby before I find out.

I really want my baby to come this week so can you please send me some "get baby crazychic out" thanks in advance lol!

Joannezipan · 29/05/2011 12:05

Congratulations GoodVibrations Well done!!!

The cough continues...and in fact I think it is getting worse. I kept waking myself up in the night. :( The bump strain seems to have gone though so that's good.

On the plus side we have a cot and a baby chest of draws now - Yay! I'm looking forward to putting it all up later today. My cousin also sent us two bags full of little baby clothes from her two and a pretty cool cot mobile! Thanks Cuz!

Perpetual Do you think your MW doesn't like/feel confident actually delivering babies or something? Presumably if you have a hospital birth she wouldn't have to do it? Just a thought at another angle and maybe a way to get your own way at not having her if you mention that thought.

I hope you are all having a good weekend...I'm off to hack up something horrible over a steam bowl.

NoToast · 29/05/2011 12:06

More on sperm and pregnancy! This is from the wikipedia article on pre-eclampsia- apparently the more you are exposed to the father's semen the less likely you are to develop pre-eclamsia

"Consistent with the fact that human immune systems tolerate things better when they enter the body via the mouth, the Dutch researchers conducted a series of studies that confirmed a surprisingly strong correlation between a diminished incidence of pre-eclampsia and a woman's practice of oral sex, and noted that the protective effects were strongest if she swallowed her partner's semen."

Shock snigger!

To make you feel extra better Thorny DPs question about contractions was followed up with "I know what the womb is, but what's a uterus?" and, when being shown the diagram in What to Expect, and spotting the bladder and urethra "oh, you have another tube coming out of your vagina". He did go to boarding school and was, by his own account, a bit of a late starter with the girls....Grin
