Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
milliemuffin · 27/05/2011 16:32

Congratulations nomoreheels! Sorry you had a difficult labour but I'm sure she's worth it :)

And another girl! Does anyone KNOW they're having a boy? xx

BarbieLovesKen · 27/05/2011 16:32

Is that 7 babies now? Im really worried Im forgetting someone - we have:

Florence,
Naomi
Ciara
Seren
Isobella
Rosina
and baby nomoreheels

Im terribly sorry if I've left someone out. Was trying to figure out how many this morning when I told dh we had another new arrival to the thread (Isobella) and was laughing at the fact that initially I was due first - as in the 1st June (since changed to tomorrow) of the June gang but we had this many babies already.

Have you guys got around to starting a post natal club yet (or are you going to stick with us here? Grin).

BarbieLovesKen · 27/05/2011 16:33

Oooh yeah Millie thats another question I wanted to ask.

(hands up - Im having a girl!!)

milliemuffin · 27/05/2011 16:34

Gillzz - Glad you've got a date for induction, enjoy the time between now and then and I hope it all goes well for you next week xx

milliemuffin · 27/05/2011 16:37

DP is convinced we're having a girl (he was even before he knew about the 156 heartrate but that doesn't mean it's a girl, not for definite). I'm secretly hoping for a boy as DD is still my baby (even though she's nearly 18mths) whereas DS is nearly 4. Hopefully I'll know either way by this time next month! (god that seems ages away...)

BarbieLovesKen · 27/05/2011 16:38

Oh and know Im in serious posting mode today (sorry) but am delighted to report that I actually had a scan yesterday, much to my surprise and delight (had been previously told that 18 week "dating scan" was all I'd be getting) - baby is head down and still has plenty of fluid, placenta up where it should be, all well. Was really, really worried about all of this due to lack of care/ monitoring so this is such a relief/ lovely to know!!. Happy days Smile

petitech · 27/05/2011 16:40

banana big congrats, beautiful name! everyone has such good taste on this thread!
sasa the race is still on, nothing much going on here though ;)
Ifancyanewname hi there!
8rubberduckies, have you thought about maybe getting a cleaner in for a day just to blitz the house for you? I know it's extravagant but it might take some stress off you?
nomoreheels big congrats too, just got to your post too, sounds like a bit of a mixed experience but at least she is safely here now.

OP posts:
Gillzz · 27/05/2011 16:42

Thanks girls just going to relax and get last minute things done!

Were having a girl 2!! Hopefully as bought everything pink!!

PerpetualProvocateur · 27/05/2011 16:44

Congratulations nomoreheels! Even if it wasn't how you had planned it, at least it didn't drag out too long!

Millie, we're having a boy (I saw his bits with my own eyes, and it was definitely not an umbilical cord or something in the way!), but I'm probably a good ways off. Full term today, but we normally run a bit late in my family, plus it's my first.

Barbie, great that the baby is healthy and in a good position!

Moog72 · 27/05/2011 16:48

Wow - another baby - congratulations nomoreheels. that must have been quite a shock happening so quickly - well done for getting through it and now you have your beautiful girl :)

I have just been to see the midwife and baby is a little bit engaged (4/5 palpable) and is no longer back to back - back is on the right side so all looking much better. I have heard that second babies tend to engage and then float free again - don't necessarily stay in the pelvis - does anyone know if this is true?

BarbieLovesKen · 27/05/2011 16:53

Do Gillzz, try not overdo it and get some sleep while you can instead Wink.

8 meant to say I smirked a bit reading your post as before I'd seen the bit you'd said about our dh's being seperated at birth, I was thinking it Grin. I really, really sympathise and know how frustrating it is. My dh's lack of initiative drives me up the wall, I cant understand how he cant see something that needs to be done/ remember things himself without me pointing it out or writing a list or nagging him over and over. He would rather step over something on the floor than pick it up, its like he doesnt see it, until I say "err dh, maybe you'll pick that up" Confused and then its no problem. Its little things too - hes like a small child - he doesnt listen at all - I had oil delivered yesterday and the delivery guy (very kindly!!) spent 15 minutes trying to tighten a part on our tank as there was a leak (bearing in mind a fill of oil is ?500 and with this winter, we flew through it), he said that we must be loosing an absolute fortune in oil as its constantly just dripping out and added that he'd made my dh aware of it last year Angry. Idiot.

Also, I've been asking him to put and paint shelves in babies room for 2 weeks now. After much nagging and arguements, he said he'd do it today, last night I said "dh, just paint them in emulsion, its quicker and less fumes and it'll dry better". I repeated this before bed last night and then once more when we got up this morning, about 10 mins before he started. I go upstairs - whats he painting them with? gloss. of course. Which needs 3 coats and a day for each coat to dry. Angry. Ah, Im just sounding off really.. that moan was waaay too long. Sorry Blush

BarbieLovesKen · 27/05/2011 16:56

Thank you so much pp. Woo hoo!! we've found our boy!!! Grin we'll spoil him loads Wink

Moog definately true, apparantly first babies engage before labour begins, subsequent babies can engage and unengage and as you've said, float free. Often, subsequent babies dont engage at all until labour has begun. Apparantly theres not as much work to do with the muscles (as we've none left after number 1?Grin) so theres more room etc..

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 27/05/2011 17:00

We're turning into the popcorn thread (at last). Pop pop pop, suddenly babies everywhere Grin

Cangratulations Nomoreheels. Grin

petitech · 27/05/2011 17:19

In people's experience which is more painful, having a cervical sweep to encourage natural labour or being induced and potentially having a quicker stronger labour? I am really really scared (as mentioned previously) of having a sweep so was just going to ask if birth doesn't start naturally if I can just be induced but as this is my first don't know if it's worth suffering the brief discomfort of a sweep if that means avoiding induction?!

OP posts:
jasmine51 · 27/05/2011 17:52

Blimey, I'm off for a day and suddenly the world is filling up with girls! Congrats for all the new arrivals.
I am expecting a boy and I can tell you he doesnt seem to have any intention of making an appearance soon...is there something about our boys being too comfy in there tucked up in bed and generally lounging around? Someone blow the smell of curry or fish n chips up there, that might get them out. Mind you, when they do make an appearance they are going to have a good pick of the girls!

On ML now! Hoping to follow Merlions example and have a surprise arrival within 12 hours of being on leave...getting the space hopper out now....well, its more fun than a birthing ball!

CitizenOscar · 27/05/2011 17:53

Congratulations nomoreheels

We're having a boy too, but probably not for a few weeks yet! Maybe all the boys are just late starters! :)

Joannezipan · 27/05/2011 18:01

Congratulations Nomoreheels! Let us know when you have picked out a name.

I think i've pulled a muscle in my bump with coughing...owch!

8rubberduckies · 27/05/2011 18:08

Congratulations NMH, your birth does sound intense, but its all over now!!!! Yay!!!! Let the fun commence!

Gillz good luck next week, sounds like it'll be a relief if you're in pain.

Petitech I am one of those people who freaks over a smear test, and my cervical sweep was nowhere near as traumatic. I think it helped that I knew my midwife quite well by that point, she was very gentle, and I just wanted that darned baby out Grin. Now, it did not work, and I ended up being induced as well. It is not the same for everyone, but my labour was very quick and intense, which can happen with some inductions, and I would definitely recommend giving the sweep a go first. Also, induction can take quite some time to work, and you're in hospital waiting around then, as Gillz said.

Also, thanks for the suggestion of a cleaner. Luckily, my Mum has stepped up to the mark and is deep cleaning our house for us. She did downstairs today, and is going to do uptairs next week. It really has taken a massive load off my mind, and my kitchen is currently sooooooo sparkly Smile.

Barbie you have my deepest sympathies, do you feel like the only adult in the house sometimes? If you think your shelves are a problem, all the skirting boards, windows, 2 doors, one cupboard and 4 shelves need a good three coats of gloss in our nursery!!! Anyone want to come over and give us a hand? I can make a mean cake... (pineapple if you fancy it?)

8rubberduckies · 27/05/2011 18:12

Joanne I forgot to say earlier about my secret natural remedy for coughs. It sounds gross, but really works. Peel a few cloves of garlic and chop them in half, and cover with honey and leave for a few hours. You don't have to eat the garlic, but just have a couple of spoons of the honey, and it is very soothing (even if a bit stinky) Grin

PrisonerZero · 27/05/2011 18:13

Wow 3 babies since I last checked the thread! Huge Congratulations!! I am also quite jealous!

I am definately having a Boy, had 4 or 5 scans this pregnancy and its been confirmed each time, it will be my third boy so at least I will know what I am doing hopefully (like knowing how to hopefully avoid getting wee'd on during nappy changes Grin)

I saw the midwife yesterday and cried because I was tired Blush she said she felt sorry for me. How embarrassing. Baby is still 3/5 (so 2/5 engaged?) and I am measuring 35cm (am 38 weeks) all seems fine, have my 40 week appointment on my due date so until then I am just waiting and slowly getting things sorted.

Very slowly actually - I've done bugger all lately. Still got loads of clothes to sort out and stuff to be washed, need to give the house a good clean and attempt to shave my legs and cut my toe nails at some point. Daft really, the things that worry me about giving birth, can't have the midwife seeing my hair legs Hmm

I still have pregnancy rage, keep shouting at the poor DC for no reason Sad or crying over silly things like songs or not having anything I want to eat in the kitchen. Had less cramping pains this week though and less stabbing cervix pains thankfully. I'm not sure its the Evening Primrose Oil thats helping with the stabbing pains but you never know.

I have got some biscuits to have with a cuppa later and am looking forward to a quiet night on the sofa. Couldn't be bothered to cook this evening so went to McDonalds and ate too much, Dp is out and I didn't think the DC would mind Wink

Half term next week so no day time naps for me, I will be a delight to be around!

Update on my friends baby (He was born at 40+16, had mechonium asperation syndrome), they were transfered to another hospital and he is on an Ecmo machine and life support still, but is a few weeks old now and has defide the odds so far, so fingers crossed. Only so long they can keep him on the Ecmo though so they have been trying to get him off it, he has been up and down but stayed off for a few hours the other day.

sasamaxx · 27/05/2011 18:34

Sorry still to catch up on today's posts as have been out all day - just marking my place Smile

BPrincess · 27/05/2011 19:42

Hurrah for the babies! That's wonderful news (even if the births may have been a little scary...) Hopefully all that's now just a distant memory.

Prisoner sounds like your friend's baby is moving in the right direction. I can totally sympathise with crying at the midwife's. Poor you. It's knackering this pregnancy business. And yes, 3/5 is 2/5 engaged I believe, though it doesn't mean much. Some babies don't engage at all until labour and some can engage fully weeks before anything happens.

8RD Yack to your cough cure... can I pass on that one please?

Joanne your pulled bump sounds nasty. Ouch.

Sweeps. Well, I'm booked in for my first on Wednesday, unless something happens beforehand and I've heard mixed reviews. I'm hoping it's no worse than a smear (which I can handle), but God knows... they've had me on my hands and knees on the floor for smears before now as my cervix is at an odd angle, so we'll see. The name alone just makes me want to giggle. Sooty and sweep. Puppet show. Pop your hand in, this won't hurt...

Anyone have any more sweep insight (nothing too scary please)?

sasamaxx · 27/05/2011 22:04

BPrincess and Petitech my cervix is always quite posterior so can be quite hard for them to reach - it's certainly uncomfortable, probably not too dissimilar to a smear.
Having a sweep is infinitely more preferable to a full induction IME.
When I was induced, it made labour come on so fast and so strong that I felt very out of control. It can be a very intense experience, and your body might not get the chance to get used to what's happening - I feel that I went into a state of shock afterwards tbh.

Nomoreheels sorry your birth was traumatic, but congratulations on your beautiful little girl.

Sorry I've not caught up with everyone - knackered tonight after having on-off cramping all day, kids driving me mental and being generally bad tempered.
I've just had a curry and everything to try to encourage the cramping to actually turn into something. It's been going on a couple of days now, but could still continue for a good while IME Sad

KaraStarbuckThrace · 27/05/2011 22:27

Time for another one of my monster posts! Haven't had time to post earlier, just glance through.
Thornykate - I hated being DHM1stoverdue with DS, luckily only went 4 days over. Hope things kick in very soon! Have you got plans for the kids for half term?
Sassamax - maybe we should start bets on who has the 1st boy? I'm tired looking after 1, it must be even harder looking after 2 dcs! DH is being very solicitous of me as well. BTW my waters broke just before DS was born! No mention of ARM at all during that labour.
Supersunnyday - yey to hyour DH bein back. Have you inflated your ball yet?
Motherofsnortpigs - yes I am expecting another fast labour and my DH is the same as yours, happy to leave it to the MW!
Confessionsofanachingfanjo are you still having pains down below or have they eased off now?
Ifancyanewname - welcome aboard! When are you due and do you know what you are having? I'm also expecting number 2!
PerpetualProvocateur remember they cannot refuse your a HB! Good luck for next week, here is my thread you may get some useful info for next weeks meeting here. Hmm at her measurements!
CHM1stbaby enjoy your trip to Bristol!
Knackered76 - Definitely agree you need to make plans that would be derailed by baby arrival!
Loueytb3 hope everything went ok for you today and you have some positives.
Crazychic141187 I am sure I read somewhere that vomiting can be a sign of imminent labour. Or you have eaten something that disagreed with you...
Moog72 Yey for ML!! Sounds like you a similar night to me... I really hope it is not true about the floating babies!!
Joannezipan Poor you and your cough :( And there isn't much you can even taken for it! Hope you have a good weekend with your DB and DF.
I hope you don't mean avacadoes and fruit corners together Grin
Daisyfields Those symptons can indicate imminent labour as well, fingers crossed!
Barbielovesken I think the worse thing about all this symptons (the burst of energy, nausea, snippiness, aches and pains) is you end up thinking "is it about to start??" and then you get disappointed when it doesn't!
Fab news about the scan btw!! Have you administered your DH a swift kick up the arse? Sounds like he needs one! I'm nagging DH to get and rebuild our changing table and to get the old towels out of the loft Hmm
8rubberduckies Angry at your DP, seems like he is just another child!!
Turn baby duckie!! And hooray for your mum, could she do my house too? Grin
nomoreheels Congratulations on the safe arrival of your dd!!! So sorry for the difficulties you especially afterwards, hope you are not too sore now.
Gillzz sorry the spd has been so bad, hope eveything goes okay for you with the induction and you'll be holding your new arrival very soonSmile
Milliemuffin you must be having a boy to even things up a bit!
Petitech hello!!
Jasmine51 yey someone else starting ML! How is your DH? Has he had much luck job hunting?
CitizenOscar Hello to you too! I remember when expecting DS, loads of girls born first then loads of boys!
PrisonerZero I have just shaved my legs after my bath this evening! I too am shouty mum as well Sad Really lost my temper yesterday and DS was saying "sorry, sorry" - he wouldn't brush his teeth or get dressed Sad
Glad your friend's baby is still hanging on there, hope he improves more soon.
BPrincess - no experience of sweeps and I would hope to avoid them as I hate internal exams.

My back has been hurting all evening, lots of movements from the baby and lots of pain in my lower abdomen. Soooo fed up!!

sasamaxx · 28/05/2011 02:35

Can't blooming sleep Sad
Think my curry has given me a sore tum, and I'm still cramping so it feels like one big long relentless period pain.
I'd be excited at imminent labour, but the pains don't come and go so aren't proper contractions.
Have taken paracetamol so hope they work soon...
