Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BarbieLovesKen · 28/05/2011 18:05

Hi all, well Im in the aches and pains club. Im having braxton hicks contractions/ period pains/ pressure constantly but nothing painful enough for me to think anything has really started. Anyway, I've had a good chat with baby and have warned her not to dare to make an appearance until her daddy is home at about 3am - if she does decide to in the meantime Ill have to deal with my lovely but very much drama queen/ hysterical mother accompanying me to the hospital Hmm. Like you, Thorny, think I may be here for a while yet - dd was born on the 11th day "late" and ds was 2 days overdue.

So as its my due date, like fecking clockwork, Im getting the "anything stirring", "had the baby yet" texts, phonecalls and even facebook messages Angry. Probably completely hormonal and irrational but this drives me crazy, even yesterday a few family members were at mine for tea saying things like "still hasnt gone yet, we might have to run you round the garden" ffs - I wasnt even due yet!!!!!Ah, I'll get over it.

8 definately feel like the only adult a lot. When people say "this is your third.." I often say "na, its my forth Wink"

Nurse, I sometimes wake with swollen feet/ hands. Like you my bp is fine as is urine so Im never too concerned. I had this with ds too but consultant wasnt too bothered as the rest was clear. Obviously keep an eye on it though.

Kara and Sasamaxx I really hope something starts for you both soon and puts you out of limbo. Thats horrible!!!.

Hope everyone is well

8rubberduckies · 28/05/2011 18:14

Millie yes its one of his Italians - the Gaviscon will be first thingin my handbag, don't worry!

Barbie I got driven nuts by everyone texting / calling / emailing from my due date onwards asking if I'd had the baby yet (ds was 2 weks late) - it really stressed me out. If I do end up having an ELCS at least I won't have o go through that living hell again!

8rubberduckies · 28/05/2011 18:15

Oops - should check before I post - "weks" is weeks and "o" to! Blush

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/05/2011 18:31

8rd sounds lovely, that lunch especially the pudding!

Sadly no babysitters here so no chance of a lovely meal out with DH before this one arrives...

However after baby arrives, DH and I will be off to Chiquitos for fajitas when DS is at nursery Grin

BarbieLovesKen · 28/05/2011 18:39

Meant to say also Confessions, feeling so sorry for you - cyst sounds horrendous.

8, I dont feel so unreasonable by being annoyed now. Thanks. Really hoping you wont be kept in on Tuesday (crosses toes). Also rose (drool) another thing you've just reminded me about that Im really looking forward to (I've abstained completely from alcohol for all of pregnancy purely because if I couldnt just have one Blush so its been a while...)

NurseSunshine · 28/05/2011 18:45

Ooooh Barbie sounds like something might be happening Envy Grin

8RD that sounds lovely, though I really hope you don't have to stay in hospital.

8rubberduckies · 28/05/2011 18:49

Barbie I had a small glass and felt unashamedly tipsy! I also feel a bit like if I had one drink sometimes I'd just want to carry on, but it just seemed so right this afternoon, and I didn't want any moreGrin. In the breastfeeding workshop I went to last week the lovely midwife running it said that having a drink when breastfeeding is fine and will do no harm; I now love her! She was very funny actually, and said that she suggested we get our feet up for the first feed when we get home from the hospital with a glass of wine, the remote control, and a feeding cushion, but of course not to get drunk, especially if co-sleeping!

sasamaxx · 28/05/2011 18:54

Lol at me and petitech scoffing curry and bouncing on our balls
Still nothing here :(

BarbieLovesKen · 28/05/2011 19:25

damn it sasa Sad.

8 I'd also want a naughty cigarette - I know it. One used to accompany the other for me - a sneaky cig and a bottle glass of wine. No point in annoying myself even more. You have excellent will power Smile, Grin at being tipsy - I too had 2 small glasses when ds was a couple of weeks old and was genuinely pissed Blush

Thornykate · 28/05/2011 19:26

Mmmm all the food talk is giving me an appetite but I have zero food in as I explained to DP I haven't got the energy to do The Big Shop alone or with DS3 again. DS1 who is 16 next week & tall & strong asked me earlier "when are you getting food in mum?" & I explained that I need a bit of help with the heavy shopping. So why several hours later am I still here waiting for one of them to be ready to come & help?! DS3 is hungry & I wanted to get mince & batch cook (for the family post nataly rather than me I never want heavy meals after baby recently born) but am not starting that at stupid o'clock on a Saturday night grrr. DP will have to go & buy takeaway every night instead.

Oh I really am mrs angry tonight sorry guys!

Going to set off now with DS3 to buy the basics although I am tempted to drive past supermarket & just take him to mcdonalds!

Out of interest how hard are we supposed to bounce on the birth balls? Think I have been too gentle but since getting more annoyed I have been really bouncing on it, what's the official technique? Thanks in advance :)

milliemuffin · 28/05/2011 20:04

Thorny I dont think you're supposed to 'bounce' on it, just by sitting on it improves your posture and opens your pelvis helping baby get into a good position. I was on mine for about 3hrs straight with DD (plus TENS and natal hypno cds on iphone) and I delivered her standing up as soon as I arrived at the delivery suite. I don't know for sure though, something for me to research later!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/05/2011 20:22

this is what we need

Few ideas in here!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/05/2011 20:37

Just realised we are going to need a new thread soon.

Due in June c'mon you lot!! Grin

Am eating pineapple...

BarbieLovesKen · 28/05/2011 20:47

Oooh thanks for that Kara. Actually, I was here thinking I might seduce dh tonight. I honestly believe sex is the only thing that actually works (after trying EVERYTHING with dd until I was induced on day 11) - isnt this the only one thats actually been proven (?? I think ??) is there a form of oxytocin in sperm or something or does orgasm release it? something like that - Im not 100%. I think it could have worked with ds (or coincidence) as we done the deed about a day and a half before my waters broke and I was really expecting to go over much more than I did with him.

Seeing as Im only due today and not too fed up just yet Im not sure if Ill start yet.

Oh and dont do the castor oil thing!!!!! dangerous!!!!

BarbieLovesKen · 28/05/2011 20:49

Your not supposed to eat the pineapple, Kara - havent you learned anything here?? Wink Grin. (go on, we still didnt get a guinea pig volunteer - I would except I dont have any pineapple in, seeing as you do and all... )

8rubberduckies · 28/05/2011 21:01

I have heard that what you are supposed to swallow, errrrrm, , is your DPs sperm, its got the oxytocin business in it apparently. I would have thought logically that a healthy internal dose straight to the affected area would be better than oral ingestion though...

BarbieLovesKen · 28/05/2011 21:10
Grin

I hope to God my DH doesnt ever hear that one 8, or I'll never hear the end of it Grin. Sounds like waaay too much work to me. Any volunteers for this one??

8rubberduckies · 28/05/2011 21:17

I've managed to keep that one secret from DP. Of course, the situation as it is with me this time around is that as long as the little minx is transverse, it would be plain dangerous to do anything that may induce labour, until she is head-down Grin

sasamaxx · 28/05/2011 21:27

OMG 8rubberduckies I also hope DH never hears that Shock
I've just bought a nice bottle of wolf blass (2 for a tenner in sainsbo's) so am going to have a glass, a bath, eat some pineapple and then grudgingly do the sex probably.

Off to check out Kara's link

sasamaxx · 28/05/2011 21:55

Just realised how appropriate that smiley was ^

8rubberduckies · 28/05/2011 22:04

Grin Grin Grin Sasa

BPrincess · 28/05/2011 22:22

Nurse I've had puffy ankles and hands for quite a few weeks now, but midwives not worried as BP and urine all fine. Mine gets worse if I've been out and about or the weather's warmer. Put your feet up and rub in a bit of cooling moisturiser, I find that helps.

So, the sex thing... I think semen is supposed to act on the cervix and orgasm is supposed to release syntocin, both of which can help things along. I think the swallowing theory is a cheeky rumour put about by a man!

We've been trying to have sex a bit more often lately (which isn't hard... not exactly been top of my agenda for a while!). DP nearly called it off this morning after my second mid-seduction loo break!! Hardly romantic is it?! Anyway, we managed it in the end, you'll all be glad to hear!

Millie nice ball tips - was that with your first?

Mmm, I just had a half of ale and a hog roast in the pub. Delicious!

GoodVibrations · 28/05/2011 22:41

Firstly congrats to Merlion, Banana and NMH - Well done ladies, hope you are all enjoying your babies xxxx

Now my news, BABY GV HAS ARRIVED!!!! No name yet Blush but we had a baby girl on 26th May at 11:44pm, weighing 7lbs 12. We are home now and I am absolutely overjoyed Grin Grin Grin

Happy to tell my birth story in detail (!!) if anyone wants to hear. If anyone wonders just how different things can be 2nd time around:

DD1
Born 35 wks weighing 4lbs 14
Waters broke naturally pre labour
No show/ mucous plug
3 hour labour

DD2
Born 40+3 weighing 7lbs 12
Lots of mucous plug loss
Waters broke artificially just before baby arrived
16+ hours labour

Amazingly labour number 2 was much better for me!

Now, MORE BABY NEWS PLEASE :)

BPrincess · 28/05/2011 22:54

Hurrah GV!!!! We've been thinking of you and cheering you on. So glad to hear your news, and that it all went so well. How come the long labour better than the short one? And yes, I'd love to hear the details.

Brilliant news.

BarbieLovesKen · 28/05/2011 22:56

OK, I looked it up and here's the deal: sex can work in 3 ways:

1.Orgasm can encourage the uterus to start contracting.

  1. Sex can encourage the production of oxytocin (the contraction hormone) in the woman.
  2. Sperm contains prostoglandins which help to soften and ripen the cervix. These prostoglandins are better absorbed by the gut than any other way hence the swallowing adviceb
