Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

OP posts:

Ozone man is now here generating ozone all over the place...does this make us friends of the environment? If a room full of ozone can ge generated by a little pack that looks like a car battery in just an hour, why dont they have big ones running in the Arctic and stuff where there are holes in the ozone layer....just a thought. Back to pelvic floor exercises......

knackered76 · 11/05/2011 13:26

Jasmine :( Rubbish for all involved but glad to hear the ozone is being reconstructed in your home Grin!

Okay girls, I need help with a name. It needs to begin with J and not be too popular eg. Jack (just because our others aren't that popular either). I love Jonah, dh not so keen. He loves Jools, I think it sounds like a girls name. We are at a dead end . . . . . please be a girl so we know what to call you without too many arguments!

jasmine51 · 11/05/2011 13:33

Knackered have you tried searching the the Mumsnet baby name finder for J names? www.mumsnet.com/baby-name-finder

sasamaxx · 11/05/2011 13:35

Thanks for the new thread Petitech

You've given me hope on the piles front supersunnyday - I'm trying to use the pelvic floor muscles to rein them in, and they have def shrunk - will try to get a mirror later to see what's going on down there - nice!

That is so scary about the bees Jasmine - how did it all happen? I would have nightmares about that. I don't generally bother about bees but am terrified of wasps.

TTL great advice from Kara about the nappies - don't get these big 'pack' things even if they are better value. I'm going to start off with tiny bambinex nippas I think (just old ones that I have) with XS motherease airflow wraps. I might treat myself to a few xs sandies too though - just because they are soooooooo cute.

My midwife friend was round this morning and palpated me. Anyway, I am really hard to palpate (mws always tell me this) and she thinks the head is down, altho it felt broad to her and didn't move so either it is head down and engaged or it is the bottom she could feel. If I was her patient, she'd be sending me for a scan. MW appt on Tuesday so will see what she says.

Also - the bad news is that the baby is definitely back-to-back. I'm not devastated about this as DD was back-to-back and was delivered in that position and everything, and she still fitted through the pelvis. I know it makes for a longer, more painful labour though Sad so I'm going to do whatever I can to avoid it.

Joannezipan · 11/05/2011 13:43

Knackered Jory (Cornish for George) Jerry, Jeff, Jacob, Jackson, Jasper, Joel, Jonas, Joshua or Julius?

Jas hope the ozone works okay! look out for lost polar bears!

Right off to the supermarket!

moomin156 · 11/05/2011 13:55

i like Joel and Jacob.

Julian, Jonathan, Johann.........

Mmmm J names are difficult

CMH1stbaby · 11/05/2011 13:58

knackered - my friend just had a baby called jonah but everyone mainly calls him Jo so maybe you could get around your DH that way?!

Moog72 · 11/05/2011 14:19

Knackered - Josh, Joseph, Jake, Jamie, Jude, Joel can't think of any more of the top of my head!
We are completely stuck on a boy's name - hoping for a girl for that reason. DH wants a Dutch name (as he is Dutch!) and I don't like any of the boys Dutch names he has suggested...

KaraStarbuckThrace · 11/05/2011 15:28

Sassamax - DS was back to back through most of my labour but some how managed to turn himself before I delivered him.
What i think helped, was I got in the bath, and alternated lying on my back and getting on all 4's. I had had 2 days of long painful contractions up to that point but that seemed to really help things along.
No guarantees of course but worth a try!
here is some ideas as well

neenewps · 11/05/2011 17:12

Someone at my yoga told me about this website for babies that aren't in the optimal fetal position... apparently great for breech!

Spinning babies

curiouselle · 11/05/2011 18:34

kara supersunny takethat my job is working with students struggling with behaviour, so I am used to that and worse, but worry not students are being suitably punished, and I have removed myself from that group until I leave. Lovely to have people concerned about me though Smile any concern I get at work often doesn't feel genuine (apart from close friends).
Actually it is amazing what sleep does - I had my first decent night in ageeeeesssss last night and today have been much more on form, though flagging now!

jasmine the bee incident makes my dog-mauling-carpet incident look small - I really hope you manage to get it sorted. I bet the most gutting part was the baby stuff - get that sorted first and you will feel better! Enjoy lunch and dinner out and give your bump a hug like I did Grin

also loving the new threadness - it makes it seem even closer - settles self on bright orange space hopper expensive birthing ball, with bottle of water and relaxes!

GoodVibrations · 11/05/2011 19:58

Really quick message, sasa my baby was back to back at 36 weeks and head engaged so thought it would never move. DC1 was back to back and really did not want another back to back labour. By 37 weeks baby had moved to the back being on my right. 38 weeks baby moved to being on my left, ideal position apparently!!. I spent as much time as I could on the birthing ball (especially kneeling on floor and leaning over ball) and also on all fours (yoga cat pose, general hip swaying). I've no idea if this did the trick but it's certainly worth a try. Good luck Smile

sasamaxx · 11/05/2011 21:23

Thanks for the links neenewps and kara - they are fab Smile - and that's great that your LO turned in labour Kara Smile
GV that is really encouraging that your baby was also OP and engaged yet turned. I am banning myself from recining on the chair and will now only sit upright or leaning on ball. (so i say now until I really fancy a rest on the recliner tomorrow). You must be 38 or 39 week now - fingers crossed that your baby stays in that great position now Smile

And I didn't think that babies engaged after 1st pregnancies as well - wrong again it seems!

Joannezipan · 11/05/2011 22:07

Sasa At NCT last nitght our teacher was demonstrating good positions for getting the baby to turn if you are OP. She said head down, bum up as this disengages the baby and when it wiggles gravity pulls it's back and the back of it's head down towards the ground, or towards your tummy. Then when you stand up it will re-engage the right way round. She said to do it when the baby is at it's most active and wiggly. Good Luck xx

sasamaxx · 11/05/2011 22:52

Thanks Joanne that's a good tip and will def try it Smile

Thornykate · 11/05/2011 23:40

Jasmine sorry to hear about the bees :( I hope things clean up as easy as possible & that the ozone machine helps. If I was nearby I would happily come & help you clean as the nesting urged are strong at the moment. And I have always preferred cleaning at other peoples houses for some reason?!

TBH though tonight I have been pseudo nesting, I am feeling a bit off, am exhausted but can't sleep so I settled for watching the QVC cleaning hour in bed instead of doing my own house Grin

sasa only the 1 pile? Am Envy, think I have someone elses share as well as my own.

Milliemuffin · 12/05/2011 04:23

423am and wide awake :(

I've been awake for 2 hours so decided to come down and now I'm watching birthing programs on Discovery Home & Health.

Guessing I'm not going to be very good company today! :(

Xx

Joannezipan · 12/05/2011 08:35

Millie I feel your pain. I woke up about the same time and couldn't get back to sleep. I want a machine gun on top my house to get people who shout in the street in the middle of the night and wake up chochety pg women...anyway off to work :(

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/05/2011 09:04

Ds woke me up at 2am wanting me to cuddle him.
Fell asleep in his bed then woke up at 4am but took me ages to get back to sleep after getting back into my bed. Woke up at about 6.30am just as DH getting ready to go to work.
It is all preparation for the night feeds....

Joannezipan · 12/05/2011 09:28

Yes Kara I suppose so, but when there are night feeds, hopefully I won't be going to work and the bigest decision I will have to make is what to have for dinner!

BPrincess · 12/05/2011 09:28

Morning all. Sorry peeps haven't been sleeping well - it's a bit of a test isn't it? I'm finding it takes me AGES to get to sleep, but once that's done I'm fine (well, getting up every 2hrs for a wee, but going straight back to sleep after that)

Jasmine Good lord, the bees incident sounds horrific. Are you back to normal yet? I was once lying on my lawn when a swarm flew overhead, and that was terrifying enough. I thought I was under attack from some kind of martian bombers, it was that loud.

Lots of good TENs advice - hiring one is now on my list of today's jobs!

Re nice midwife visits, I too had one of those yesterday. She is 3/5 engaged, and the 'right size' (being of a cuddly build, being told I was the right size was quite a novel experience and had me smiling happily to myself for the rest of the day), and back on the right. How come back on the left is better I wonder? Does anyone know?

We also chatted about older mums and labour (I'm 41 with 1st) and she said in her experience there's absolutely no difference. A 17-year-old can pop one out in 2hrs, and so can someone in their 40s. She also said it's getting more and more common and saw a 50-yr-old woman the other day pg with twins (natural, not IVF), first pregnancy!!!

Today, I will mostly be finishing off a bit of work and making bolognese for the freezer. Have a good one, everyone.

jasmine51 · 12/05/2011 09:47

Morning all
The ozone production continues, last room now and it is quite a miracle solution. Still residual smells where its seeped into exposed brickwork around fireplace etc but certainly gone from soft fabrics and carpets. Upstairs has returned to smelling like DHs bad farts sweet and kitchen area also now smelling more normal so a happier Jasmine this morning. Lesson ladies...if you ever have a fire at home or rent a place after a smoker...or have a smelly pet...hire an ozone generator (Im not on commission)

Oh and if you ever find yourself amongst a swarm of bees, remember they are docile when they are swarming and if you dont move they will not bother you...do not move suddenly, just move away slowly. You would have to be unlucky for the queen to land on you and that is the only reason the swarm would settle on you. Wasps on the other hand are bastards..feel free to flap, run around like a maniac and squash the buggers mercilesly!

Sorry to hear so many of you are having bad nights. Ive been ok generally until about 5 and then the pain in my hips wakes me up so Ive settled on around 6 hrs sleep a night...seems like luxury compared to what is coming!

Today = a baptism of fire for DH - we're going to a 4 years olds birthday party....all mums and kids, no dads (apart from host)...will be interesting to see how long he lasts!

MrsNoggin · 12/05/2011 09:50

Out of curiousity, regarding the turning babies tips, at what point do I need to start worrying about it? I'm 34ish weeks with my second, and she has been mainly head down for a good month now. But every few days she stretches and scrapes her way over and pummels my bladder for a while. TBH I haven't really thought much about it, should I be? Is there a point I should be concerned if she's hanging about head upwards and try and encourage her back over?

Please educate me, oh knowledgeable ladies! Grin

MrsNoggin · 12/05/2011 09:57

Sorry, Jasmine, x-posts. I'm glad it's getting sorted. Will remember that ozone thing. And the swarm advice! Have a nice party - free cake! Wink
