Pamsco you do make me laugh!

jamama · 13/05/2011 10:11

Hi all, been quiet of late with lots of work, trying not to think too hard and trying to find out wtf happens about antenatal classes locally, but thought I would pop in. Did ante/postnatal exercise class last night, was the least pg person there by MILES, but was nice to start meeting people, and one of the other ladies had brought her 7mth DD who was v sweet and kept us all entertained.
Pam's msg reminded me of a friend (who is an obs cons, thankfuly far enough away that I don't have to worry abt her looking up my chuff at any point) telling me of a woman who insisted on having 'Angels' by RW playing at the precise moment of birth. After about four hours of listening to it on repeat, the mws and consultants were fit to throttle her with the cord Grin.
Am not revealing my names yet, even to DH, in case he ruins them or I jinx things, but I have picked both a boy and girl name in secret.
Anyway, best get nose back on grindstone or work will sack me (rather than giving the very very very nice 100% for 18wks mat).

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 13/05/2011 11:51

Ooh poppysmum am nosey - where do you live then? I think the UK can be quite generous over mat leave but then, Sweden etc is in another league all together! You get a year on full-pay.

Whoever was mentioning the bumpband, I had one last time and it was ace. Didn't really have to buy mat clothes till around 24 weeks. Will be using it again if I ever get a bump. My clothes still fit me fine, which is obviously a worry!

Our private nuchal scan tomorrow at 1am. MIL having DD for the morning and all being well (fingers crossed) we'll go properly public (fb etc) tomorrow night and tell work on Monday.

Oh and I had a mix on my ipod in labour last time (note - most hospitals won't allow electrical leads from your home, so it's battery only and my ipod ran out about 2 hours in!!), it included some music from Phantom of the Opera, including one that started with a huge scream - I red-faced fast forwarded it on. Enough screaming in the rooms as it was without adding to it!
When we got home though, one of the first tracks I heard was 'Shining Light' by Annie Lennox. Still well up when I listen now as it sums up me and D :)

And those doing an ostrich impression re labour, probably best idea. It'll happen whatever so don't scare yourself if you don't want to know things.
My only piece of advice is when you arrive on labour ward, be prepared to hear some quite horrible screams and wails that will scare you at first - try not to be. Your labour is your labour and may be quite different to the ones screaming and you may cope differently. Anyway, if you do scream, you won't remember it Grin

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 13/05/2011 11:51

Opps - should be 10am for our scan!

chipmonkey · 13/05/2011 12:05

jamama, one of my friends is now an obs and she did have to examine me during labour with ds2Blush Ireland is a very small country!

Missyraines · 13/05/2011 12:14

Tee hee. All this chat is great. I feel glad to have found a group that are all at roughly the same stage. Is anyone else addicted to home and health 'baby time' on sky? I watch in the mornings as I work shifts so have time to. In fact I'm working 1430-0100 today. I get super sleepy towards the end of my shift.

I'm telling my Mum on Sunday as she lives an hour away. Unfortunately my Dad passed away in 2008 but I'd like to go to his plot and tell him too. Silly I know but I don't want to leave him out. He'd of loved being a grandad. God I'm in tears just thinking about it.

Also we've decided to name it junior at while I'm pregnant so they don't get called it or anything gender related.

Missyraines · 13/05/2011 12:16

Oh and good luck for up and coming scans.

MissyNorfolk · 13/05/2011 12:27

Hey MissyR bless you, you made me cry talking about your dad, I would def go and tell him if it were me, makes him part of it all. My dad is my whole world so can only imagine how you feel, ooooh I want to give you the biggest hug right now my lovely. I bet your mum will be super pleased for you. I havent got sky but when i did years a go i used to spend all of my time watching a baby story and portland babys, always wanted to have kids, i have just watched every one born every minute and am watching the series misbehaving mums, anything babyfied I cant get enough of!

Junior is nice, mines called baby bunny as my nickname with my family is bunny!

Poppet45 · 13/05/2011 13:01

Hi all!

Well I'm guessing I won't have time for pregnancy yoga this time as all the evening classes are just about done by the time I've put DS to bed. The aqua natal class by us is right over DS's naptime too >TBH I went weekly from around 13 weeks last time right up until the night I went into labour and it was wonderful for the pregnancy, I met lots of lovely friends, but I didn't even think to use any of it during labour. I found a pool and vocal eercises (my term for mooing) plus visualisation helped more - oh and a theatre and surgeon when it all went wrong.
Can I just say I'm a vote against Taylor too Sad I don't really like any of the so called occupational names (Mason, Taylor etc) Just me thought.
Oh yes and my maternity package is bloody awful. DS is a dreadful employer.

Missyraines · 13/05/2011 13:05

You have probably seen them all as they are quite old. Saw the baby whisperer this morn and she was great. Sadly she died a few years ago.

Thanks for my hug. I'm off to work now. Boo. I'll pop in tomorrow morn.

PamSco · 13/05/2011 14:04

Missyr I've been thinking a lot about family recently and if they are no longer with us, what they'll be missing. ((hugs))

I also think it is time to stop some daft feuds going on. All my family are miles away so it's hard to manage, but I need to make time.

MrsA I had never thought about how I would respond to hearing other people screaming! I didn't even consider that I would hear other people! If you hadn't mentioned it I'd have probably freaked out. See who needs tv, you guys are preparing me!

I think it would be an excellent thing if you could do a visit before the birth and get shown around, would help prepare for the newness of it all. I might ask if that is possible at our hospital.

Folicacid · 13/05/2011 14:26

I agree pamSco with the hospital visit, although can you imagine being in labour and lots of pregnant women noseying around?!

All my friends who are healthcare professionals have not had slowed contractions when getting to the hospital as they are so used to the environment, wheras I bet mine slow right down with the shock.

bumpandisaacsmum · 13/05/2011 14:45

pam check with your MW or the hosp as where I went for DS & I think the hosp I've been booked with (though having HB) both do "delivery suite tours" for DS this included being shown round the whole of the CDS & they ewent through the different things that might happen, what was avilable in each room (birthing pool, home-from-home, standard room). Meant that I knew where I was going when the time came and also what "homely bits" I needed e.g.they had CD players so just had to bring CD, they had kitchenette birth partners could use with donations!!

I miss "home & health" channel, loved watching the baby hour whilst pg with DS but no longer have sky :(

Folicacid · 13/05/2011 14:46

PamSco sorry another question- how did you find the yoga class? there are classes near me but they are £120 for 10. Seemed a bit steep or am I being tight?!

Hils74 · 13/05/2011 15:02

Ooooh I'm thinking of doing aqua-natal and yoga but no idea where to start looking. Need to find some other pg ladies near me!

Just asked my emp about mat pay and mine is 6 wks at 90% and then 33 wks at SMP so I think I'll have to go back to work after 9 mths before I run out of money! :)

cep · 13/05/2011 16:24

am amazed at the different amounts of mat leave and pay. Mine is fantastic which is a suprise. I get 6 months full pay 3 months smp and 3 unpaid (if i go for the year's leave obviously.) at least it was last time i'd better check if it's changed.

collie not too sure about Taylor Jean sounds a bit american.
(not that there's anything wrong in american names incase there's any americans on here.) But ultimately the choice is yours and dh's, if you both love it then that's all that matters. hope you're ok.

bumpandisaacsmum · 13/05/2011 16:34

I would love to do aquanatal classes...used to aqua aerobics regularly & was so nice being in the water (not so keen on swimming though)m. Only trouble is the closest I have found is 30mins drive at the hospital...£6 for 30-45 mins plus petrol & parking makes it seem a little too pricey (though pay for 5 & get 6th session free...still £30 for 6 weeks plus petrol & parking!!). I cannot believe that I am within walking distance of three leisure centres & not a single one does pg classes (used to live stones throw from one that did every kind of pg class you may want!!)

Am seeing MW in 2 weeks so may discuss with them if they know of any others!!

Bluetinkerbell · 13/05/2011 16:46

the thing with me and my maternity leave is that we would probably just about manage taking 6 months off, I have 6 weeks at 90% and rest SMP.
The thing is I work as a Youth and Families Worker for the local church, and it's not that we won't be going to church anymore during my maternity leave and I will still be involved in certain events. I also work from home a lot and work times are very flexible.
Plan is to take little one with me everywhere whilst working... so I might as well start working earlier and have the money and still have the baby with me.

PamSco · 13/05/2011 17:40

Flying visit then flying off for the weekend woohoo.

bump thanks I'll ask later in the summer when teh new birth centre is open. Only the best for my wee'un. lol

Folic I just did a search for yoga pregnancy Edinburgh and looked at teh options. There was a thread on here recommending the choice i went for. £120 for 10 is about teh same price. Some charities do it as well for donation, there is one local to me but times are not great for my work.

Just got blood tests and I have the liver function of Charlie Sheen :(

Supports teh diagnosis of gallstones, just need a scan to confirm. Fingers crossed I passed it!

NotJustKangaskhan · 13/05/2011 18:24

I had my scan today. Smile

Mildly surprised as I was expecting my dates to be pushed back as I have longish cycles (33 days rather than 28), but instead they got pushed forward by almost a week -- which makes no sense with what happened that month. Confused. The kids really liked watching it as they had a bigger screen just above the family side so they could watch everything as she did it. My eldest was enthralled, second was chattering a play-by-play, third had to be bribed though with the screen and sweets (she's teething and having an eczema flare-up).

I'm still really tired and very easily winded - very frusterating as there is so much my mind wants to get done (particularly more walking and stretching in the new warm weather!), but all my body wants to do is lay around, read, and drink lots of cold liquids.

jamama · 13/05/2011 18:51

OK, this may be a little OT & TMI, and perhaps I should go straight to main pg boards, but has anyone else had pain in the um, fanjo area of late at all? This is only the last couple of days (14+6 or so), but it is starting to make me nervous. Is this normal? Or should I try (harder) to speak to mw (who never answers the damned phone). I don't think 'what to expect' has anything on this.
I have been doing my Kegels every day, and riding my bike about, so perhaps this is a reaction? The pain is different to the lowe abdo stretching, essentially feels like my cervix is tired, and seems to be provoked by sitting, which is great considering that my job is quite desk-based... Thoughts on if I should attempt to avail myself of the weekend walk-in clinic or leave it until Mon appreciated.
Sorry for using you guys for a whinge... told dh abt it last night and he didn't quite know what to say!

jamama · 13/05/2011 18:52

lower (sigh)

jamama · 13/05/2011 18:56

Oh, and nosebleeds today as well - what a pretty sight I must make, snuffling into a bloody tissue as I sit at my desk crouched over my cervix...

cep · 13/05/2011 20:00

jamama is it an ache around the pubic bone?? i get something similar which is spd, thanks to those lovely hormones which are supposed to relax muscles and things so everything can stretch. Basically we get too much and it over relaxes, you can get it to different degrees some end up on crutches i didn't was just very uncomfortable and sometimes rather quite painful. Was advised to make sure that everything is in alignment so hips legs ect are straight, and some exercises were advised last time but i haven't got that far this time yet. When do you next have an appt with your mw? And the nosebleeds tend to be due to us making more blood for baby.

jamama · 13/05/2011 20:44

Thanks cep, it could be the pubic bone but it feels further up iyswim? Was wondering if it could be to do with stretching as the uterus moves up & out of the pelvis, but am such a newbie to all this...
Next mw appt is set for 25/5, but I also have a major deadline that day, so was planning to postpone unless there was a good reason not to... which if this carries on would perhaps be daft. My GPs surgery will try & book me an appt if I call to ask, but after going there 3 weeks ago with ileo-sacral pain induced by too much walking (which the GP said he could do nothing about...) am loathe to go back just yet. Will see how weekend of not sitting at desk affects things and decide methinks.
