As you were...

Truffkin · 28/03/2011 13:21

Congratumulations MedeeMum am very glad to hear another 'it's all worth it in the end' story and you sound so loved up

Hope all of the poorliness has started to remove itself from the vicinity, am not impressed with back ache, kidney stones, bad dreams or the fear amongst the ESH. We have moved into a new office today and have platters of fruit and pastries, am sharing these pain au chocs with you.

So, we went for an early scan on Friday and it was brilliant. Money very well spent thank goodness. The sonographer was lovely and we saw the heartbeat and TGB is soooo much more excited now he's seen it in there. He asked loads of questions and I think it made it so much more real for him.

We told TGB's parents on Friday before the wedding we were all going to (tears all round) and his brother & SiL too (gobsmacked to say the least but very, very happy for us) so that was really nice. Wedding was good fun, lots of dancing (and they served Becks blue so I got to drink 'beer' for a bit) and I managed to stay up on my feet until 2am - check me out!

We attempted to tell my Mom on Saturday but she had a houseful so we went back yesterday before heading home. My brothers are normally nocturnal and monosyllabic, rarely leaving their respective rooms and only then for sustenance. Of course, yesterday they individually popped downstairs to chat and make tea, meaning we were there for a good hour before we could tell her. She was totally speechless for at least a minute, just goldfish mouthed and crying! Then followed lots of hugging, exclaiming and her saying 'you're not really going to call it Elvis if it's a boy are you' (long standing TGB 'joke') She then started planning all of the things she is going to buy and was very excited that she could do so with no secrecy as my brother's girlfriend is due in July so people will just think it's stuff for them - bless her. She was a little Shock when she realised her grandchildren will have doubled in number from one Christmas to the next Grin

Sorry for so much memememe, it was just a lovely weekend all round.

owlbooty · 28/03/2011 13:36

Oooh, Truffs were you in Wiltshire? I was also at a wedding. Top news on the luffly scan, tis completely lovely to see a heartbeat :)

Bites thank you muchly for the SQUEEEEEing, the Owlet is kicking me in the bladder approvingly.

rocketleaf · 28/03/2011 13:45

Aww truffs you are very welcome to be memememe, that sounds like a lovely weekend! Yey for early scans, heartbeats and excited G'parents to be.

Scorpette · 28/03/2011 15:43

Toilet cat-flaps are genius! We need to get on Dragon's Den with the idea, pronto!

Mmmm, drummer's arms Please tell FDH that I was briefly the drummer in a thrash metal band in my teens; I am sure he would be mightily impressed, ahem Hmm Blush He sounds rockaliciously hot!

You deserve lovely mememe, Truffs - so, so happy for you at how excited and overjoyed both sides of the family are for you (as they should be). Your mum is certainly going to have her hands full Grin

BTW, my Mum has loved 'The good granny guide' by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall that we got her for her b-day, so would highly recommend as a Mother's Day prez if anyone is stumped for ideas. My Dad's been reading it too.

Well, we've got nearly everything now, bar changing bag, bath, car seat, sling and a few extras, which we're going to order online or get from M&P. Got some crappy slippers and nighties from Primarni for the birth, pure class. For some reason, everywhere seems out of disposable sexy pants over a size 10-12. Everyone says to get them too big and right now, I need something you'd put a male hippo in Blush so got a pack of huge bellywarmers from Primark too.

I somehow managed not to buy a bumper pack of baby socks with frogs all over them from Mothercare but wish I'd got them now, sigh!

BTW, I have a 10% off online code off for Mothercare if anyone wants it (I can FF the original email, which lets you print the code out for instore purchasing too).

Also, The Lad is curiously quiet today, just like last Monday. I have therefore decided to nickname him Geldof Grin

Please note: I will no doubt be repeating this joke on other social networking sites. Zero shame, me.

Scorpette · 28/03/2011 15:44

PS Rocket, take it easy! And take me with you on hols! Envy

macaroonmum · 28/03/2011 15:49

lovely weekend Truffs and Grin at early scan! Fabulous news!

I am still having weird sex dreams, not moved on (if that's the right phrase) to animal ones just yet.

Hate to disappoint you all but Italian baby clothes are boring as fuck.
Pliz to look at examples here. They are also ridiculously expensive.

macaroonmum · 28/03/2011 15:51

LOL at Geldof Scorps Was there anything left when you'd finished shopping?

Casserole · 28/03/2011 15:55

Rocket -

  1. Yes, dehydration can exacerbate both back pain and after treatment effects.
  2. Ring the chiro woman!
  3. Please can I come on your weekend too. Please please?
rocketleaf · 28/03/2011 16:08

I am sure TB will not notice an extra differ and a breast feeding mum in the 4 poster bed.

Are you feeling any better milanesemacaroon?

owlbooty · 28/03/2011 16:26

I really, really want a macaroon now. Damnit.

And a holiday with a four poster bed. Tis our first anniversary the weekend after this. Mr Boots has not done anything in preparation. But then again, neither have I. We are so shit.

Ivegotmrbitey · 28/03/2011 16:26

Symonds Yat sproket? Lovely! Why not hire a canoe and get rowed on a gastronmoic tour of pub sandwiches available on the Wye?

Lovely early scan truff, what a happy weekend you've had! And it culminated in a pattiserie tray! Good times Smile

Happy kicks everyone! Loving Geldof facing inwards muttering about stoopid Mondays. I have just given a two hour lecture and got kicked in the bladder throughout. Maybe it was my increased heart rate and adrenaline provoking him but I prefer to think I had my own personal cheering squad Grin

Bit Hmm about the clothes mackesonsstoutisgoodfordiffers but the bambinos were super cute!

rocketleaf · 28/03/2011 16:31

Ohh I would love to do the canoeing thing. Its the one outdoorsy activity both of us really enjoy. We did a few river and sea kayaking things while travelling and we make a pretty good TeamSprocket, me in the back navigating and steering and TB providing the engine power. Not sure if they make spray decks to fit differs tho? Wink Perhaps a circus tent would do.

I think tea shops and gentle walks are going to be more on the cards tho.

Scorpette · 28/03/2011 16:40

Geldof has been active since getting home. Think this proves TYF's theory that he hates shopping, Like Father Like Son, etc. So I asked if this means I don't have to spend 60000 hours in musical instrument shops every time we go to town, but apparently it doesn't Hmm

I have been amazingly restrained with what I've bought (so tempting to but all sorts of perineal soothing pads and the like, but you don't know if you'll ever need them). I might buy a TENS instead of hire one, because they can be used for period pains, or so I've been told.

MickeyRooney, those togs are a bit disappointing. Think my image of Italian kiddiwinks was formed by our next-door neighbours: for their first week of school (no-inform policy), they were angelic in patent leather shoes, white knee socks, navy velvet bloomers and white shirts with navy peter pan collars, etc., all shipped over from doting Nonno and Nonna in Milan. After a week of WTF reactions from other mums and kids, it was jeans and t-shirts all the way from then on Grin

Rocket, I hope that suitcase is specially reinforced (for me, not Cass)... Wink

CurlyCasper · 28/03/2011 17:35

sprocket I suggest kicking back in an open canoe. No deck needed, and the powerhouse in the back can do all the work Grin failing that, there's a bloody lovely pub at Sym Yat. i got sunburned there in March 2002. Fond memories.

rocketleaf · 28/03/2011 17:49

Also trip to that there London booked for 2 weeks time to go to TBs best mates opening (semi famous painter) which is very exciting!!! TB has paid so I am going to be saving my beans for black cabs everywhere ;-) (prob not really, will tube it with the hoi palloi and just avoid rush hour)

And the flooring is down in the living room and it look FAB!! really pleased with it and can't wait for the rest of the house to be done.

Yey for lots of lovely things to look forward to!

Kicking back in an open canoe sounds lush if the forecast wasnt for 10 degrees and drizzle :o

Muser · 28/03/2011 18:04

Rocket in London?

rocketleaf · 28/03/2011 18:07

I would bloody love to meet up but it depends if I can give TB the slip, we are only staying one night. :o

Although we have open returns so its possible I could stay an extra night on my own

Ivegotmrbitey · 28/03/2011 21:12

Sounds like progress being made and made well rockitt!

I have set a personal best and cried in first six minutes of OBEM, anyone else watching?

Scorpette · 28/03/2011 21:34

Am watching, but trying to eat. The sobbing is really getting in the way!

BTW, hope Nando's son looks like the baby's mother, not Nando

MadameBoo · 28/03/2011 21:35

I am in bits :(

MadameBoo · 28/03/2011 21:35

So glad that Nando's Mum isn't going down...

Ivegotmrbitey · 28/03/2011 21:40

Aaah no baby william is a pound and a half, god love him.

And yes I hope nando's baby looks his mummy too!

Scorpette · 28/03/2011 21:45

The poor triplet mum - you need to deliver all 3 far too early cos one might die and your DH is hours away: NIGHTMARE. They are so teeny-tiny, esp. William. Terrifying. And poor Nando's-lady (Clare?) too - so, so scary. But at least OBEM shows how amazing modern science is, phew!

Scorpette · 28/03/2011 21:48

Huzzah! Baby is alright AND looks like Mum - result! Oh, her name is Sarah.

I was the only person at the NCT course this Saturday who'd heard of meconium. Are none of them on MN?!
