Confessions - I'm expecting a labour just like yours actually. When the contractions start, I'm intending to stick my fingers in my ears and sing 'tra la la' tunelessly for as long as possible Grin

SavannahRose · 31/03/2011 22:50

confessions - yes please i'll have a bed next to yours!!!

sasamaxx i'm actually going to try that whilst in labour!!!! Promise!!!

xx

Moomin lovely to hear Florence is doing so well and well done on all that expressing. I know you will be thinking of her all the time but do you/are you able to have a photo of her yet? A friend who is a lactation consultant told me that your milk flows much more freely when the baby is there but if you can't be with your baby and need to express then it's a good idea to have a photo of them as anything can help speed things up for you.

Leroy I've been guzzling fizzy drinks like nobody's business this time - I know not great for you but whatever works! Went to a story-telling thing with DS yesterday afternoon and it was ridiculously hot. I was sweating buckets (as was DS) and drank about a litre of lime juice afterwards. Jasmine interesting about the iron levels. I had to have iron with DS but this time have been ok so far. If you do have to take them take with OJ as it aids absorption and be aware of dreaded constipation!

Joanne sorry to hear of poor sleep. My DH has been away all week for work and DS has decided it's a week for waking up at 5.30am this combined with my rubbish sleep and the cat crying to go out (he got into a fight and I have to keep him in till he goes back to the vet this afternoon) have left me exhausted.

Mummy enjoy your big day. Fingers crossed for some good weather (I'd happily send you a few degrees of heat if I could) and can't wait to hear all about it.

Cameli sorry to hear about the OC. Everyday is a day more of growth for the baby - hang in there - we're here if you need a listening ear or just a good old moan.

tynk hope DH turned up and had a good excuse.

Confessions count me in!

Hello ladies - it is so hard to keep up with everything going on on this thread!

Can someone give me a massive kick up the arse? Due date has just been moved 2 weeks forward and is now 3rd June....I have done NOTHING to get ready - I am still in massive denial.....if it wasn't for this massive baby bump and my doctor scaring the life out of me (am abroad) with every horror story imaginable I wouldn't believe there was a baby! Plus I still have a four hour flight between me and the relative safety of an NHS experience!

:)

Jer79 · 01/04/2011 06:41

Does anyone else feel a baby movement sensation like a strong pinprick coming from inside? As in not a kick, just some movement from the baby that makes you want to rub the spot on the outside where you feel it, like a tiny, sharp bee sting?

Did the GTT test yesterday. Not too bad all told, just boring waiting at the hospital in between the three tests. Saw lots of newborns going home for the first time, and it really made me realise how this whole pregnancy business is the smallest bit of it, and you're in for so much responsibility when it's just you and that car seat full of newborn to look after. It's obvious I know, but I guess everyone comes to getting it in different ways, and I'm just starting to, with 11 weeks to go!

Mummynumber2 · 01/04/2011 07:01

Thanks everybody Grin. Sorry for the long me post! After tomorrow i'll be able to think about more than weddings. I thought we were doing well with the preparations until on Wednesday night when dp decided it would be a good idea to start painting the dining room! I didn't realise he was doing it till I got up yesterday morning and found the house in absolute chaos! He doesn't seem to have any concept of the fact that the combination of being pregnant, getting married and having your house in a complete state 2 days before having 25 people over may be a bit stressful! He reckoned it would be sorted out by this morning but I'm too scared to go down in case he's pulled the floor up or something Grin.
So apart from that I think we're sorted. Getting my hair done today. All clothes sorted, got rings, got presents for dsc's, flowers arriving in the morning, restaurant booked, got drinks for here (but need to make cupcakes), guests invited. Have we forgotten anything very obvious and important?!

Mummynumber2 · 01/04/2011 07:10

jer I know exactly what you're talking about. It's a weird sensation isn't it.

tinyk what time did your (D?)H get home in the end? He should of at least let you know he was going to be late Angry

crumbletastic · 01/04/2011 08:23

Savannah I'm also more worried about labour this time, but thats becasue mine was like rubberduckies, I was induced which bought on a very intense quick labour so I went from reading a magazine calmly to the strongest contraction imediately with no build up. I asked for an epidural as soon as these powerful contractions started and luckily the anaesthetist was in the next room so I got one straight away. And about 5 mins later, as soon as I was numb my baby practically shot out and I was only 4 cm dilated so tore very badly but couldn't feel it because of the epidural. I wasn't too scared before labour last time and then when it did get too painful I was just dealing with it at the time but thinking back I scare myself with how quick labour was and how sore it would have been for me if the aneathestist wasn't in the next room. Whoops, sorry if that was all tmi for anyone. I'm just trying to deal with my fears by keeping calm and telling myself it might not go like that at all this time.

I'm passing on my sleepy vibes to anyone having trouble sleeping, I sleep for hours at night and could easily fall asleep many times in the day if I didn't have ds jumping around on me, poor love he has watched so mucb cbeebies in the past few weeks, I just want to be less tired so we can do fun things again. I had my blood test on wednesday to test my serum ferritin as midwife thinks I'm anaemic but I forgot to ask how i get my results, whether i just wait for something in the post or ring after a certain amount of days. I'll prob just ring them when they are open today as if my knackeredness can be fixed I'd rather start sooner than later.

Sorry for the long self indulgant post

sasamaxx · 01/04/2011 08:45

Morning ladies - CLENCH and HOLD - 2 -3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 and relax

Bloomin eck crumbletastic - 4cm and the baby came out? Shock

Yep Jer79 I often get that sensation - it's pretty painful. They can be jabby little things.

I'm 31 weeks today - only 9 weeks to go (still sounds like an age)

tinyk · 01/04/2011 08:45

(d)H got in about 1130. Very contrite and said he would make it up to me. I said taking a pregnant woman who can't drink and gets heartburn from water after 5pm for dinner is not making it up to her! I'm having a think, but a trip to Bath Spa has just come to mind... :)

I'm in the denial camp about labour still. My mum was a midwife and says she went into hospital asking "where's the epidural" which has me slightly worried I can't cut it. But I'd really like to try for a water birth, I like to think I'm a toughie! Is there an emoticon for total ignorance and unfounded optimism?

Good to hear Florence is doing so well, it makes me so excited to think we could pop at any time, although of course I'd much rather wait a few more weeks please!

crumbletastic · 01/04/2011 08:51

yes sasa, i was between 3 and 4 cm so it took longer to stitch me up than my whole labour took. I did fart in the surgeons face while in theatre though which amused my slightly juvenile husband no end!

SavannahRose · 01/04/2011 08:55

Jer79 i know exactly what you mean....i have been trying to describe it was have been experiencing this for several weeks now. Happened yesterday i had to rub my tummy seems to be on the tightest part near my belly button feels real sharp :(

Wonder what it is??

Crumbletastic - yur 1st labour sounds shocking especially popping out at 4cm!! see these are the stories that scare me!!!! But its nice to hear im not sailing alone.
My labour was soooo long that i was very close to a CS but ended up with Epidural and she was out in 10 mins so who ever says it slows labour down we are pure examples that it doesnt!

It was a very painful labour as she was back to back too...

jasmine51 · 01/04/2011 08:58

Morning all - builders are back and beavering away outside...Ive only given them the cheap biscuits to teach them they cant mess me around ha ha.

Tiny glad DH appeared eventually and Bath Spa sounds very like an appropriate apology to me

re labour...I'm actually formulating a plan and am on the verge of writing it down (big gasp for being organised). Because of my blood issues, after some research I have found that a CS and any kind of bloody medical intervention comes with great risk so will not be used for anything less than a life threatening situation. In addition I have to be kept as mobile as possible so an active birth of some kind is on the cards and I'm hoping my circumstances mean I go to the front of the queue for the birthing pool. The only downside is that an epidural is also not on the cards which is the thing that scares me, but being warned if being armed I guess. I just have to find a way of raising my pain threshold in the next few weeks...any ideas?

SavannahRose · 01/04/2011 09:03

Jasmine51 how come a epidural is off the cards???? I feel your pain! how many weeks have you got left?
Maybe think of having a water birth as the water is suppose to act as a aqua-dural?!?! i was planning a water birth but with comlications etc i am just going to go with the flow.

i found with my first (before epidural) i used hot baths and hot towels. Also, the birthing ball was AMAZING could of bounced up and down the maternity unit all night!!

jasmine51 · 01/04/2011 09:45

Savannah two reasons - an epidural means immobility and I will have to stay mobile because of the clotting risk. Also there is a conflict between heparin and epidurals - cant have both at the same time apparently. Strangely it doesnt worry me...thats probably blind ignorance of the expected pain though. I'm impressing myself with my knowlegde...not usually this clued up!

Ladies of Oxfordshire, good news for the JR by the sounds of it...dont suppose it will be quick, but nice to know they are not scrapping it altogether which is always the other option!www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-12931677

jasmine51 · 01/04/2011 09:47

Oh and Savannah in theory I am due on 16th June but have an induction date of 12th...but boy babies have all been early in my family for 3 generations so I'm guessing (hoping) beginning of June - that makes about 9 weeks I think...eeek!

Joannezipan · 01/04/2011 09:57

Morning everyone :o I SLEPT!! Not a full night, but I still got some shut eye. I'm not working today. I think a break is a good idea, but I feel guilty about it.

Tiny I'm glad your husband turned up eventually! I know this feeling of old with mine. He is being very good at the moment though despite having a deadline next Friday. I think Bath Spa sounds like a lovely idea! :o

Jimper ((kick)) get moving girl you just lost lost 2 weeks (and I'm jealous!)

Jas I'm glad the builders are back! I don;t think i'd give them any biscuits at all!

Right time for some action and then a nap maybe? Maybe!

BarbieLovesKen · 01/04/2011 10:14

Joanne glad you slept!. Smile

Wanted to reply to loads but now cant remember who said what and am much too lazy to trawl back through posts. Nurse loved you bump pic Grin

DH has been away all week with work but is home (late) tonight. Cant wait.

Have just realised its now officially April - so that means we're all a whole month closer to seeing our babies (but hopefully not too close). This also means I can say Im finishing work "this month" (the 29th) and could potentially say "my baby is due next month" (as Im due 1st June but dating scan (x2) says 28th May).

On a slightly more negative side it also means I need to get my bum in gear and finish off my final assignment for college (which is due Wednesday) this weekend and it means my exams are closer (1st and second week of May hence finishing work so early). Anyone else have exams coming up? It'll be nice to have them over and done with I suppose. Roll on the (evening of) the 9th May....

I have exactly 4 weeks left in work today! which, is just 19 working days as we've Good Friday and Easter Monday off. Woo hoo.

(PML at all my countdowns - how impatient am I?)

8rubberduckies · 01/04/2011 11:02

Hi all, crumbletastic wowzers! Your "quick and intense" labour makes my one look like a walk in the park! I was induced too and went from 0-10cm in an hour... none of the midwives believed me and thought I was being a wuss, even though my contractions came on so fast I didn't have a break between them to catch breath after the first couple, and they huffed and puffed about even giving me gas and air so early on. The look on my midwife's face when she did my first vaginal examination after an hour to find I was 10cm was a picture! Grin I then spent 6-7 hours pushing as the little angel Hmm got stuck, and ended up having a forceps delivery.

I now dream of a nice, steady build up of contractions for a few hours, at home, on my birthing ball, before being magically transported into hospital, being told I am already 8cm, given an injection of anti-b's for the Strep B, and then painlessly popping out my little bundle of joy exactly 2 hours afterwards. Money on the table ladies, will it happen? It will for most of us on here first-timers, don't be too put off by our stories, but I've always had rubbish luck and am a regular victim of sod's law Grin.

Glad you got some sleep Joanne, and that your partner turned up Tiny, although I live about 10 minutes drive away I have never been to Bath Spa, so please report back Smile.

Jasmine can you have some Pethidine? That could be your get out of jail free card. Also, you are lucky that most hospitals are pretty clued up about active labour now.

Jer79 I am getting the pinpricky pains too, it feels a little bit like baby has got really sharp fingernails to me and is giving me a good old jab with them.

Mummy sounds like you have everything organised... I would also be feeling mega-stressed if my partner started faffing with decorating at this point before having loads of people coming around the house, but then I'm not getting married and am reaching fever-pitch about the spare (soon to be baby) room not being anywhere near decorated yet. I'm usually a bit more laid-back when not pregnant but the nesting instinct is a strong one in me... I'm really excited about your wedding tomorrow! Wishing you all the best for it, I hope it's a wonderful day Smile.

Okay, really must do some work now.....

NurseSunshine · 01/04/2011 11:31

MN2 how's the house looking? Hope DP (soon to be DH!!!) hasn't decided to knock down any load bearing walls or anything! Bless, he probably thought you'd be over the moon at his DIY efforts!

Joanne glad you slept better. Well done for pulling a sickie, it's hard not to feel guilty but if you think of it like, if you don;t get some rest then you will get REALLY sick then it's justifiable imo :)

Am Shock at people's birth stories! Crumble, at least you got the epidural! 4cm!!!

Has anyone April Fooled anyone? I was toying with the idea of telling my mum I'd gone into labour but thought that would be too cruel! Can't believe it's April already! 2 more weeks of Uni to go Grin

Merlion · 01/04/2011 11:52

Nurse I think that would be too much like tempting fate for me!

moomin156 · 01/04/2011 12:06

merlion......to help with expressing i breast massage / heat if needed and i have photos and an item of her clothing (babygrow or hat) that she has worn for her smell. It does all help i think. Sometimes a nice hot bath helps me express a decent amount (well 50ml's lol) the main thing is i am keeping up with her needs. She is now on 19ml/2hrs.
The worst of the day is 06:30, i do the 3am no problem but find that one just so tiring. I want to stay asleep :)

HalleLouja · 01/04/2011 12:09

Moomin I used to express before I went to bed and then once at night and once in the morning about 7.30 before I went to the hospital and that seemed to be sufficient. I managed to bf for over a year so it can't of affected my supply too badly.

HalleLouja · 01/04/2011 12:13

MN2 your DH to be has gone nesting at all the wrong time. Good luck for tomorrow. I hope all goes to plan and you have a fab day.

NoToast · 01/04/2011 13:08

Ah Confessions you've shown up in my maternity ward- have been saying since the start that the baby will miraculously appear in a beam of light. Even better the hypnobirthing CDs are confirming all this for me. Sort of. Almost.

Am sure a cot, layette and all else the baby needs will appear the same way.

Jasmine after the diabetic choc incident I did find the MIL carrying a pack of toilet rolls around the house but she seemed completely normal at dinner time. No rumbling. BTW I am a size 10 and very ungenerous of bosom (a complete no show at the moment, god damn their laziness), if those top shop clothes are still looking for a home.

MummyNumber2 Have a lovely wedding tomorrow.

Moomin great news about Florence, so pleased for you all.

GTT renegades. last night I dreamt I stormed out of an antenatal appointment because the were running late. Rebelliousness is catching.
