Enjoy your appointment CMH - mine was the first one that made everything seem real - discussing birth options and stuff

Tiny I am not experienced yet in nursing but I have an ikea rocky chair thing called poang. Its a bit of a poor-mans glider chair. I also have a traditional 1900s nursing chair but it makes my bum go numb after about 20 minutes so its really for show rather than use. My friend had a lazyboy recliner...now that was a cool nursing chair!

nomoreheels · 29/03/2011 09:29

You can get rocking chairs for cheap on ebay - £10 for a wooden one and you'd just have to add some cushions. Or people are often selling glider chairs with the footrest on gumtree - just search for your local area.

Second TK Maxx for any baby clothes - I got a lovely Scandi design gro bag for £10, and tons of end of line (but top quality) baby clothes for at least 50% off. Best buy was a Scandi babygro for £1!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/03/2011 11:19

Jasmine - I have a poang as well, it's great! I have the foot stool with it as well.

I also have a birthing ball now. Which I am looking forward to making proper use of once I get rid of these piles.

Moog72 · 29/03/2011 11:36

Nomore that photo is amazing! I have been planning to get some done but have been in two minds.

Jasmine I was looking at the poangs in Ikea the other day - they are really comfy - ended up with a small armchair instead though as DH wasn't keen on the poang.

I am getting really impatient now. keep watching baby programmes (OBEM, Cherry wants a baby) etc on the TV and I want to meet my baby! Am only 29 weeks though so still 11 weeks to go (and 9 more weeks of work - groan).

Our nursery is now completely sorted. The only thing left to sort out it the things I need for a homebirth. Did anyone see the waterbirth on Cherry wants a baby the other night? The woman was so calm and relaxed - it was unbelievable!

nomoreheels · 29/03/2011 11:39

Thanks Moog :)

8rubberduckies · 29/03/2011 12:36

HI I would say a chair to sit in and nurse is pretty important, and a glider chair would be great, but they are very expensive! We have got a 1960s upright quite solid armchair in ds's room which a friend gave us, which did the job for me feeding him very comfortably. Failing using that this time around (it looks great in his room so it may stay there) we also have a wooden rocking chair we have since inherited I can use. If I win the lottery I will be straight down John Lewis for a Glider chair and footrest though - they are bliss to sit in!

HalleLouja · 29/03/2011 13:16

Apparently Kiddicare do some good value nursing chairs. I haven't looked.

I used to plonk myself in front of the tv with the remote close by and lots of programmes on V+ to watch and a foot rest and that did the trick. At night I fed in bed or in the bed in DS's room.

sasamaxx · 29/03/2011 16:58

Is anyone else suffering from extreme tiredness?
I am getting worse and worse - it's outrageous. I just cannot summon up energy to do anything and want to sleep all the time (but can't).

It's totally depressing.
no moreheels I managed some not bad results last night on the photos Grin

Joannezipan · 29/03/2011 17:04

Hello everyone, I've only just found you...I was wondering where all the other June people were! I'm due on 16th and it's my first. It's been a bit of a steep learning curve becuse we only found out I was pg at 24 weeks! Uhum...well as mother in law said - at least you don't have to do so much of the boring waiting around, something is actually happening now! She's right too. I haven't even thought about nursing chairs, i'm not sure we really have space in the nursery...it's a bit tiny (but then it's only a baby!)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/03/2011 18:42

Sassamax - I have started napping in the afternoons. I think a lot of it has to do with poor sleep at night.

You can get the glider rocking chairs quite cheap if you shop around. I am sure I have seen them for less than £100.

Clarkiee · 29/03/2011 18:54

Hello Joanezipan I can't believe that you didn't find out until you were 24 weeks- you must have been so shocked Shock. Congratulations and welcome Grin. I'm sure your nursery will come together- we've not got one sorted yet cause we're moving house in 2 weeks.

I've got a 'what looks to be' a comfy rocking/gliding nursery chair with a stool. Got it from kiddiecare in the sale. Not got it out the package yet.

Yum I have eaten far too many Minstels today. Anyone else thinking that they should be eating much healthier than they currently are?

sasamaxx · 29/03/2011 19:29

Kara the last few days, DS has watched Superman 2 while DD sits with me on the recliner and we both doze off - I always wake up with a terrible fright about 15 minutes later though.

Wow Joanezipan that's amazing that you didn't know for so long - and now, less than 3 months to go!

neenewps · 29/03/2011 19:39

Thank you so much for all the cloth nappy advice. I am definitely going to give them a go. Just need to decide on which ones to try out. The DH is firmly onboard too so at least I don't have that battle to win!

We chose some fabric over the weekend for the nursery curtains. Really need to get the more practical items sorted but somehow the nursery curtains seemed more important on the weekend :)

I have got a Lloyd Loom nursing chair. No idea whether it will be suitable for feeding in but if it isn't I will just have to use the armchair in the living room! Can't afford a gliding chair (or fit it in the nursery). I did see some on ebay and also gumtree though. I think the cheapest brand new ones I saw were around £150?!

sasamaxx I have been knackered. I had a snooze today as I was so tired. Although really was just 10 minutes. Am so afraid it will interrupt my nights sleep even more!

joannezipan that is amazing finding out at 24 weeks. Wow. Very exciting and as clarkiee says only 3 months left to go :)

clarkiee I am finding myself starting to pick at things now. I never used to snack but I am now. Today I made some scones and ending up one and half! Only 8 more to eat!!! :o

NoToast · 29/03/2011 19:58

Hello Joannezipan, that must have been a huge surprise finding out how far you were along..

Neenewps my midwife gave me a leaflet for a voucher scheme for buying cloth nappies for resident of Bristol and South Gloucester. If you buy 50 pounds worth you get 30 pounds back. Don't know if this can be of any use to you or others on here. Details from www.recyclingconsortium.org.uk (haven't checked link)

Thornykate · 29/03/2011 20:10

Hi all hops everyone is well

Welcome to Joanne!

moog I saw that programme and the lady was great. They are showing homebirth programmes most mornings at about 8am on one of the home & health channels might be worth watching. Don't know how people keep their older kids out of the birth pools in the days before birth though my lot would be in it every time my back was turned!

My nursey is sorted as baby will be in our room until we move next year :)

GoodVibrations · 29/03/2011 20:56

Moomin glad you've had a good day, and keep us posted with Florence's progress

Millie I have a lot of pain under my my bump and I did last pg too. It tended to be worse during baby's growth spurts, as the extra weight & movement puts a lot of pressure on your ligaments. Its really unpleasant, but hopefully should go soon

Sorry to hear that people have been suffering with SPD/ ribs/ piles. This pregnancy lark can be pretty rubbish!. I have really bad days when I get so upset. The SPD & back pain is even worse despite the crutches and some days I can't move at all. I feel completely useless :( and my poor DD doesn't understand why I can play very much or pick her up.

Anyway, on the good side I am now 32 weeks and had my last growth scan today. Baby is a massive 4lbs 3!! (not much less than DD was at birth!). DH thinks baby is a boy or an ugly girl Confused
Everything is fine so on countdown now. If I get to 36 weeks this time they have told me that baby will stay with me rather than go into special care, which is really important to me.

Hope everyone is ok tonight, and manages to get some sleep...........:)

8rubberduckies · 29/03/2011 22:07

Joanne Welcome and congratulations! Wow, finding out at 24 weeks must have been a shock but bet you're getting up to speed now!

Clarkiee I am eating so unhealthily at the moment it is untrue - sugar is the only thing keeping me going during the day! I have developed a taste for mint aeros, and the inevitable mini-egg habit is going strong. I was a bad Mum the other day and lied to my son and told him there were no mini-eggs left in the pack we were sharing in the car and then snaffled them all to myself later Blush. Lowest of the low, hiding chocolate from a 2-yr-old.

Notoast I tried the link you posted, but couldn't find any iinfo about the nappy voucher scheme. I am in Bristol, and would love to get me some of those vouchers! Where do you live?

Millie I also have lower bump pain - apparently its the ligaments unable to cope with the weight of the bump, and wearing a support belt or big bit of tubigrip helps loads.

I had my first yoga class tonight - baba loved it and kicked through all the relaxation bits! Smile

Clarkiee · 29/03/2011 22:13

Ah glad its not just me scoffing sugar treats 8rubber As your son was non-the-wiser about the mini eggs I wouldn't feel guilty, besides you have needs Grin
I know we get free dentist treatment but I know my dentist will send me tp the dental hygeinst person for a 'clean' and I can't stand it- soooo uncomfortable!!!

8rubberduckies I've cut and pasted my email from the scheme co-ordinator, hope this helps. I like the idea of going to a nappuccino meet!

Sorry for spamming the board. There might be similar schemes around the country for those outside the catchment area?

Gloucestershire County Council are offering an incentive scheme and it's spend £50 or more on real nappies and they will refund you £30. You need to go to the website & download an application form - www.recycleforgloucestershire.com/reduce/real_nappies/assets/IntroletterGlos.pdf
Why don't you come to a Nappuccino in Gloucestershire to find out some more (see & feel the different brands). I promote real nappies in the county for the council (I do not sell nappies), so I can show you different types, styles etc and point out the pro & cons for each in an unbiased way.
See the website www.recycleforgloucestershire.com/reduce/real_nappies/nappytalks2.html for times & venues of the Nappuccinos (nappy talks)
For our special offers, see here - www.recycleforgloucestershire.com/reduce/real_nappies/offers.html
We don?t have many shops in Gloucestershire that sell nappies, but those that do are listed here - www.recycleforgloucestershire.com/reduce/real_nappies/buynappies.html as well as other places to buy nappies. We have one nappy laundry service that covers Gloucestershire (not the whole of as yet) and the website is www.southwalesnappies.co.uk

KaraStarbuckThrace · 30/03/2011 09:25

8rd - I wouldn't worry about it, I do that all the time to restrict DS's intake of chocolate while keeping mine up ;)

Joanne - welcome and congratulations! Is this your first or do you have other children? You can't beat an ex-colleague of mine, she didn't realise whe was pregnant until she was rushed to hospital with suspected appendicitis - she was in labour Shock Scary thing was she works in a haz waste lab, and spent her day climbing up and down road tankers ShockShock She and baby were fine, baby is now 12yo I think!

Kara no other kids, so it is a very steep learning curve. It is surprising how many people don't seem to find out until quite late on once you bring up the topic!

El husbando is being very good though. He hasn't had any panics and has started reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear to the bump every night. He read online that it will make the baby get used to his voice and if he keeps reading the same book after it is born he can use it as a tool to calm the baby when it is upset as it will feel comforted by it. We'll see if it works, but it is very cute!

I know what you all mean about getting bigger though, I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and I feel like a beached whale! Plus I can't sleep all that well becuase everything is uncomfotable. Oh well only 6-8 more weeks at work and then maternity leave...they say a change is as good as a rest right!

nomoreheels · 30/03/2011 10:10

Leroy - I feel very lucky to not have a single stretch mark on my bump. I am measuring on the small end of the scale so maybe that has something to do with it.

Unfortunately I have loads on my poor boobs, they are horrible! Sad They've only gone up from 36B to 38C but it's taken its toll.

8rubberduckies · 30/03/2011 10:12

Thanks so much for the link Nomoretoast, I will check it out on my lunchbreak, and maybe see if there is anything about it on the Bristol City Council website. We used eco-disposables with ds1 as we were living somewhere with no garden and no tumble dryer when he was born, but I am keen to try real nappies this time around. We still don't have a tumble drier but have a washing line now Grin.

What is choliostasis leroy? I've never heard of it... should I have? Blush

Joanne I also feel like a beached whale already, I swear I look almost as big at 29 weeks as I did at full term with ds1! I am hoping that I stop growing for a while now and it has just been a growth spurt. I am also struggling to have a good night's sleep - disturbing the other hallf as well with all my tossing and turning.

BarbieLovesKen · 30/03/2011 10:34

Morning all!.

Moomin, so glad to hear Florence is doing well. Am thinking of you all.

Goodvibrations what a brilliant baby weight!! am crossing everything that you make to at least 36 weeks!.

Joanne Huge welcome! cant believe you didnt find out until so late!! wow!

31 weeks today. So officially on my single figure count down Grin. Slightly beginning to panic as we literally have bought nothing/ organised nothing for this baby (wouldnt ya know its number 3 Wink).

Does anyone remember at the very first thread I mentioned my SIL who had been trying for quite some time for a much wanted baby and my concerns about telling her about this one? She announced she is 3 months pregnant at the weekend Grin. Am over the moon!! we're all so excited. Thats me pregnant, SIL pregnant and BIL's girlfriend pregnant. Imagine - PIL will have 3 more grandchildren in the next few months Grin. Its so lovely to have so much to look forward to..
