Sorry about your rib pain mummynumber2 and notoast - I've had little bits of it, in the topmost ribs, but not enough of it to complain about - I've heard that acupuncture can be good for this.

I seem to be dreaming about childbirth every night just now. Last night, it was all about the early stages of labour, and the night before I actually had the baby, but had no recollection of labour - very strange.

jasmine51 · 27/03/2011 09:37

Moomin thats such good news, you've set the tears off again...!

Sorry about your rib pain mummy and notoast how miserable. Take my DHs really 'helpful' advice - 'if you feel rough, just take a day off'....hmmm, rather a simplistic approach methinks.

sasa sounds like quite a nice dream...labour being so insignificant that you dont remember it!

Oh I know what I wanted to ask...in my boxes of donated stuff there was a rather strange object called a Leachco SitnSecure. I have now googled it and I know what it is but its still a bewildering mess of material and velcro. Mine has a teddy on the front not the noahs ark shown in all the websites and videos and doesnt have the padding - has anyone come across these before.....verdict...put back in the box or carry it everywhere with me?

HalleLouja · 27/03/2011 11:36

I have not had a chance to catch up after my holidays but sending hugs to Moomin and Florence. I hope all is ok. DS was in SCBU but wasn't so early that he needed anything but feeding up. I have friends who have had earlier babies and they are all havoc causing toddlers now.

HalleLouja · 27/03/2011 11:37

Also changing a nappy in an incubator is intersting. Much easier when they are in the cots.

HalleLouja · 27/03/2011 11:41

Sorry me again - moomin if you get a chance it might be worth trying the bliss boards as there will be more people in the same position as you. Sorry if this has been said already. There is a premmie section on here but its not that busy.

AlmightyCitrus · 27/03/2011 12:51

Never seen one of those before jasmine, but the baby in the Amazon photos looks bloody miserable sat in it! Grin

I won a totseat which looks like it might be quite useful when baby is a bit bigger.

Clarkiee · 27/03/2011 13:32

Hi thornykate no not giving birth @ St Mary's (unless things got really complicated I guess) it's the nearest place to me with a 'specialist twin' bit so they often send things to them to get their opinion.

Sorry to hear some people have been in pain recently Sad

I'm 30 weeks today Grin woo hoo!

Can't believe that I've still got three weeks at work- I know its not that long but it really feels like a life time away!!

Got a moving day for 11 April Grin

Is everyone starting to feel tired now? Boooo 1 less hour in bed too Sad

OP posts:
NurseSunshine · 27/03/2011 13:39

Well I had the same amount of time in bed as I forgot the clocks were changing! But yes, very tired. Congrats on 30 weeks Clarkiee, you're on the home straits now :)

jasmine that gadget seems like one of those things that would make me lose my temper and kick something, probably stubbing my toe, therefore making me even angrier. Which I would blame on the gadget. And AlmightyCitrus that baby DOES look very unimpressed, you'd think they'd use a better picture for their marketing!

crumbletastic · 27/03/2011 13:51

Oh I like that story about the linea Nigra but it isn't true! Linea nigras don't really have anything to do with pregnancy, we all have 'the seam' even males we just can't see them as they are skin coloured. They become hyperpigmented during pregnancy in some women due to hormonal increases which alter melanin, but the same thing can happen to men with hormonal increases due to genetic conditions like addisons disease, or by having cancer. Some babies, both male and female are even born with a linea nigra due to high hormonal levels which disappear not long after they are born.

Sorry to be an arse/takes off pedantic cap.

NurseSunshine · 27/03/2011 14:00

Aww I did know that they appeared because of hyperpigmentation ( mask of pregnancy anyone?) but we could get hyperpigmentation SO THAT babies can crawl up the line? Couldn't we? Let's not let pesky facts get in the way of a good story Grin

sasamaxx · 27/03/2011 14:36

Awww crumbletastic that's disappointing - although it does explain my DD's linea nigra which she was born with and has only recently become faint (she is nearly 3)
Yes Nurse - I like that interpretation Grin

crumbletastic · 27/03/2011 14:57

aw, i feel bad for putting a spoiler on things now! I know the darker nipple/aureola bit is supposed to be true though so that babies can locate the nipple. I don't think men get darker nipples with hyperpigmentation?

Clarkiee · 27/03/2011 16:26

Yes I'd heard the hyperpimentation thing too. My line starts of straight then goes off at a random angle so I'm glad no babies have to follow it Grin.

Just watched 'three men and a little baby' on film 4 with DH GrinGrinGrinWink

Moomin - yey for Florence, and thanks for keeping us updated!

Another poor me post, I am in agony with these piles, there are 2 and they are so painful, can't sit, can't stand, getting up and down is agony. Got some Anusol HC to put on, hope it sorts it out quickly!

NurseSunshine · 27/03/2011 17:22

Oh dear, sorry to hear that Kara :( I don't have personal experience but I read somewhere that if you push them gently back in, using a lubricant of some kind, it can help with the pain as you're not sitting on them. Hope the cream works quickly.

NoToast · 27/03/2011 19:29

Thanks for the rib sympathy! Jasmine I love your husbands advice, if work was a bit quieter I'd definitely be taking it. The pain gets worse in the day and I think a lot of it is down to trapped wind, hence Mummynumber2 a good fart makes me feel a bit better Blush. Sometimes I end up watching tv on the floor on all fours to get the baby pressure off my intestines. Undignified and smelly but helpful.

Was so dizzy when I sat up this morning in bed that things were gently moving in front of my eyes. Has this happened to anyone else (other than pre-pregnancy alcoholic times)? Have been a bit lightheaded and dizzy a few times today and think it's probably normal.

Hello,

Complete newbie here - thought I'd pluck the courage to say hello and ask a question:

Have already bought two grobag/sleeping bag thingies but a shop assistant yesterday told me I should "swaddle" first. Erm? Really? What are you doing? Any advice?

On a different note, lovely news moomin

Now, back to my insomnia. Busy practicing survival with 3 hours sleep a night :)

Merlion · 28/03/2011 07:22

Ioanna -swaddling is supposed to be good but I wasn't very good at it (even with the wraps that have the velco bits on them) or maybe DS was just (and actually still is) a mini-houdini and could always get himself out of them! I found gro-bags really good after that. Also don't bother with scratch mittens - they just come off all the time - baby socks are much better - just don't look as cute!

Moomin so pleased to hear about Florence's progress.

No time change here thankfully as DS was up at 5.40 - I don't think I could have coped with 4.40!

jasmine51 · 28/03/2011 08:22

Mornin all
Hi ioanna I'm a first timer so have no idea about swaddling but was told not to grobag until LO is a bit bigger and has no chance of slipping down in it. I expect someone with more experience than me will wake up and reply soon though.

Clarkiee did you see/ have you seen 'Emergency in the Womb*? Caught it last night quite late. It was about TTTS and followed some of Prf Nicolaides cases. What an amazing guy and what an amazing procedure he has developed. If you watch it, it is generally full of happy stories but there are tears too, be warned.

Also caught 'Cherry wants a baby', again only saw the last bit but it seemed to present a well balanced insight into what age is best to have a baby...but I have to say that if I looked half as healthy and young as that lady who was 47 (I think) then I'd be planning to drop them out for years yet!

Have a good day all, look after those ribs, hips, piles, trapped wind etc. Oh...notoast if you rub your bump firmly in an clockwise direction from right under the ribs right down to the pubic bone for a few minutes whilst walking around you might find a bit of 'wind relief'... dont do it absent mindedly in tescos queue though like I did!

crumbletastic · 28/03/2011 08:29

Ioanna all babies are different and some like my last one didn't get on with growbags at all as he wiggled to much and could get out of them, which was a shame as we got so many as presents. He needed to be wrapped tight in the first few months which stopped him wiggling and waking himself up. Regardless of whether your baby likes them or not you really shouldn't use the growbags for the first month (unless you have a big baby) as small babies can wiggle down into them so best to have a couple of soft blankets for the early weeks anyway. The midwifes will swaddle your baby whilst you;re still in hosptial so you can see how comforting it is for babies but a few months on if your baby gets on with them then you may be as big of a fan of the growbags as lots of ladies on this thread.

Nevermind the bad husbands/partners, I have been a bad wife this weekend so feeling a bit guilty. Husband had his first fillings on Friday and has been complaining of pain all weekend. He is known to 'suffer' badly from manflu, hangovers and even colds so I've been giving him little sympathy thinking he was just egging it a bit, and remembering when I've had fillings and it not hurting but he couldn't sleep a wink last night using both partacetamol and ibuprofen, and tons of clove oil and says the pain is getting worse by the day not better and is trying to get an emergency appointment today as he is worried about not even being able to teach today as the pain is excruiating so possibly the dentist has damaged something. Whoops, got to think of a tasty but soft meal to make him tonight to spoil him a bit

nomoreheels · 28/03/2011 08:51

Hello all...

Firstly Moomin so pleased to hear about the progress with Florence, she sounds like a fighter!

Thank you for all the tips re: leg cramps. I upped my calcium intake with extra yoghurt & a Horlicks before bed. Horlicks doesn't look very appetising but but I could just about drink it, & has bags of calcium so I wanted to try. Result - no leg cramps since, & I've been sleeping a bit better too! It's amazing how an extra hour or two of sleep helps.

The bump shots went really well, & I'll post one to my profile later today when I'm on the laptop.

Oh, & I met two 5 week old baby girls on Saturday night - Lily & Livia - they were adorable & it made me & DP ridiculously excited.

IoannaD · 28/03/2011 09:14

Hello,

Thank you so much for the responses re swaddling!

Jasmine you should have seen my face when the assistant mentioned it. I didn't even know what it was.

Have a lovely day everyone - we are sending half our belongings to storage today to make room for the nursery. Let the fun begin!

jasmine51 · 28/03/2011 10:27

nomore have you tried chocolate ovaltine light? yum as a milky nightime drink...or make it into a milkshake with some ice

sasamaxx · 28/03/2011 10:57

nomoreheels looking forward to your bump pics - I'm def going to take some soon. Pity I missed the cute bump stage and am now in the realms of general fatness.
