Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/03/2011 11:31

Clarkiee - I think you can, I have certainly painted over wallpaper before.
Good news on the scan Grin LOL at the naughty MWs!!

jasmine51 · 26/03/2011 11:35

clarkiee sure you can. Good news on the scans too.

sasamaxx · 26/03/2011 11:38

motherofsnortpigs - cool. I am so going to get some gorgeous teeny tiny nappies then Grin
I also used a 'well known brand' instead of eco disposables if I needed to Blush
I had 2 in nappies last time, but DD is a freak of nature and potty trained overr a year ago, at 19mths so I've had none in nappies for ages Shock. Although, it's not quite as good as it sounds as they are both still in nappies at night-time.

Supersunnyday oh yes - report back about the sling - just don't let it put you off if it's no good Smile

Kara definitely give them a buzz - you don't want to miss out it is absolutely GORGEOUS Smile

Confessions how would you feel about 2nd hand nappies (as motherofsnortpigs advised above)? It can be a really cheap way to get started and pays for itself in no time.

Sleeping - I randomly switch sides as well. No way could I sleep on my left side all the time.

sasamaxx · 26/03/2011 11:40

Kara I think prune juice is supposed to be really good, and actimels.
I should really take this advice too as I also have constipation and have had 2 piles so far this pregnancy Blush
I can't bring myself to take lactulose for some reason.

sasamaxx · 26/03/2011 11:41

Sorry ignore me - you said you had SOFT poos not hard ones.
I have no idea then sorry Blush

Clarkiee · 26/03/2011 11:59

Clarkiee You can paint over plain paper, but you could always look at textured papers as they are slightly more forgiving if your walls are a bit battered. I got some with a "rainbow" type pattern for my kitchen. My friend liked it and put it in her DD's room and painted some of the rainbows in. Looked amazing.

notoast I weigh 8 stone now...and so does my baby! Grin

moomin I know exactly how you feel, having to stay in hospital while everyone else goes home. I was in 10 days with DD1 (although in my case it was down to the midwives being bastards). I'm sure Florence is getting stronger by the day!

CitizenOscar · 26/03/2011 13:56

Impressed by all the cloth nappy experts on this thread! One question for you gurus: what would you recommend as a starter kit for a first baby? I'm quite keen but don't know where to start. I don't have a tumble dryer. If you were starting from scratch, what would you buy?

crazychic141187 · 26/03/2011 14:11

ok im off to mcdonalds now that ive read people going on about burgers and chips! i blame you lot for this!!! :)

jasmine51 · 26/03/2011 14:52

crazy nooooo step away from McDs, lettuce...carrots....apples...I promise to stop the burger talk right away.....grapes...muesli....

kara now this is quite weird because I've gone from being bunged up to having alot more pooing action just in the last week...and I've not changed my diet or hit the lactulose. I have upped my iron which I would have thought would have the opposite effect but I just wonder whether there is a hormone in action at our stage that is changing things a little?

Big news of the day, I have a linea negra developing....either that or bump is unzipping from the inside.

Citizen good question...mother?

BPrincess · 26/03/2011 15:39

Clarkiee Perfectly good idea to paper over rough walls - use lining paper, then you can paint on top. And glad your scan news was what you wanted to hear. Great stuff.

Mmmm... burgers....

DP, you'll be glad to hear, has recovered from his Thursday eve strop and is now back to his usual lovely self (so feeling a bit bad for dissing him 'in public'). He's currently out at garden centre/Sainsbury's doing the shopping and told me to rest up as I am Making A Baby. He has also just made a rhubarb and custard pudding, which we will eat later. All is forgiven.

Talking of Linea nigras Jasmine, did you know why they exist? Well, I didn't until our NCT breastfeeding 'workshop' the other night. Apparently it's to guide newborn baby up to the breast. And nipple darkening is for same reason too, so they can see them well. Baby can only see 8 inches when born, but recognises nice round objects. And (this is the amazing bit), if left to their own devices they will 'crawl' up from birth area, up the tummy, to the breast and latch on! No word of a lie - we actually saw it on a dvd!!! OK, it takes about 50 mins (the dvd was sped up), but the newborn baby did it. It was amazing!

Right, off to have a rummage in the freezer for burgers...

NurseSunshine · 26/03/2011 16:34

That's amazing BPrincess!

I've also got an unzipping bump Jasmine, have done for a while.

I've got a set of birth-potty training reusable nappies from ebay (they were new). I think they're Tots Bots. Am a bit Confused but hopefully will get the hang of it. I'm getting some disposable for the first week or so, don;t fancy handwashing meconium out of my lovely fluffy nappies!

Sorry about your DP Millie :( Have you tried talking to him about how you feel?

jasmine51 · 26/03/2011 16:57

Fascinating re the linea negra...but seeing as my boobs are so huge they are close to my knees anyway wont the line guide bub in the wrong direction? Grin

Boat race time...come on Oxford.....

NurseSunshine · 26/03/2011 17:04
Grin
KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/03/2011 18:07

I don't have a linea negra, didn't have it with Daniel, but considering I am some what generous of nork I'm sure baby won't have a problem finding the goodies Grin

Mummynumber2 · 26/03/2011 18:26

I've got the beginnings of a lenea negra too!

How's everything going today moomin, i hope baby Florence is doing well Smile.

There are 6 14/15 year olds here at the moment. It was dsd1's birthday yesterday so she's having a sleepover party tonight. Pray for me! Grin

The pain in my ribs is getting worse, having stabbing pains now Sad.

Mummynumber2 · 26/03/2011 18:28

Linea not lenea!

sasamaxx · 26/03/2011 18:43

Oh that's so cool - I had no idea that that was what the linea nigra is for - although I have seen the video before.

moomin156 · 26/03/2011 21:16

Evening everyone....what a great day :) extubated this morning, chest drain and A-line out. Had a cuddle and she did her first proper cry. She is on CPAP but managed for an hour without when she was on my chest. Florence is absorbing my feed and having 4-5ml/hr which we give her down her tube. Also just changed her nappy and gave her a wash. I know its early days but so lovely to have a positive one.....its a long journey that I know will have its ups and downs.

NurseSunshine · 26/03/2011 21:35

Wow what amazing progression Moomin, you must be so happy and proud :) It must be such a relief to be getting rid of her tubes and things. Glad you've had such a lovely day xx

sasamaxx · 26/03/2011 21:36

Awwww that is so lovely to hear moomin - sounds like she's really coming on, and you're sounding positive as well. xx

Mummynumber2 · 26/03/2011 21:54

That's great news Moomin Smile

Thornykate · 26/03/2011 22:06

Lovely news moomin & here's to plenty more good days to come soon. I don't understand much about preemie care there seems to be so much technology people have to learn about but having her tube out sounds great especially if you got a good cuddle :). Keep on keeping on xxx

Clarkiee good news 4 u on the recent scan, are u planning to deliver @ st marys? I am going to north mcr they're opening a new birth unit so I hope it will be ready as they keep postponing it.

Hope everyone else is ok, that's interesting about the belly line but how do they know which way is up? Am a bit amazed that anyone could watch their newborn struggle up their body for 50 minutes, surely you would be desperate to pick them up?!

NoToast · 26/03/2011 23:13

Thanks to everyone posting advice on nappies and slings and other baby things, really helpful.

Moomin That is wonderful news, so glad to hear that Florence is getting stronger...

Thornykate I was thinking exactly the same thing, who would leave the poor baby to struggle to climb up?

Mummynumber2 I have rib flare pain as well, it is so miserable- feel like baby is going to burst alien like out of my right side. Am having huge sympathy for everyone who's been struggling with spd and other pains for weeks.

Mummynumber2 · 27/03/2011 08:38

Poor you notoast. I hardly got any sleep last night as I'm in so much pain. Do you know if there's anything you can do to help it? I've had a look online and can't really find much but am beginning to wonder if physio/ osteopathy/ Accupuncture might work.

I was thinking the same thing about leaving a new born baby to climb up, but it is amazing that nature is so clever though.
