Hello,
Started a new thread ladies, fingers crossed it works xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jasmine51 · 23/03/2011 16:06

clarkiee hope you are feeling better. Any chance you could work from home a bit more for the last part of your pg? By the way, did you spot that next weeks OBEM is multiple births - I think they have triplets on there.
re relaxing - for me its not so much thinking of things I could be doing as thinking of things I should be doing. I'm a bit of a list maker in these situations and Ive got an ever growing list of jobs...but I do get to tick some off every day and that makes me feel more productive than I probably am.

NurseSunshine · 23/03/2011 16:07

Well done for taking some time out for yourself Clarkiee. I'm the same with sitting still, I need something in my hands and I feel bad because I know I've got so much uni work to do. It would probably be useful to learn how to take 5 minutes for ourselves now while we still can though.

Grin @ Jasmine

Knackered and Barbie, I think you're right about just relaxing a little and going with the flow. Time spent beating yourself up is just time that could be spent enjoying your baby. I am going to try and be as relaxed as possible hopefully (I probably won't be though! I am such a worrier). I am certainly going to take naps and not do the washing up though Grin

Barbie, wish you were going on telly! I could've watched it and shrieked "I KNOW HER!!!! (sort of)" Grin Sorry you're having pain, you're a hero for coping with it as well as two dc and work and uni and everything. Will they not refer you for physio then? Or even blood tests? That's awful. You could maybe look online for excercises you could do that might ease the pain?

Moog that's great you're planning a hb! Are your midwives supportive? Mine are ace which is a relief as I'm not sure how I would have handled having to fight for it. Certainly don't need the extra stress anyway. Have you read any good books/websites about it you could recommend? Will you have a pool?

Had a mw appt today, all going well. Baby is bang on the right size for 28 weeks (tomorrow!) and is head down at present Apparently I had nitrates in my urine which may indicate a UTI so they've sent it off to the lab, though I feel absolutely fine. They had to take bloods this time and, as usual, my useless veins collapsed every time they stuck a needle in so they ended up getting a doctor to do it. She managed on her third try! She said it was lovely I'm planning a hb with my first which was nice :)

CMH1stbaby · 23/03/2011 16:22

barbie or anyone really - have been looking at the list and didn't realise I would need to take so many baby clothes into hospital with me - I think it says 6? Is this because you might be in for a while or will the baby need changing very often? Am so clueless Blush

CMH1stbaby · 23/03/2011 16:24

also didn't realise we would need to take baby bedding for when we're in hospital?

BarbieLovesKen · 23/03/2011 16:42

No your not clueless at all - I bet you wont need to in the UK, its just over here (for first baby) after a vaginal birth you stay 3 nights, after a c-section, you stay 5. My dd had reflux and threw up constantly on her little suits and I was shocked.

On the bedding, again I'd bet you wont need to in the UK. They do provide one here but one it is and mine kept throwing up on them so I was glad of a few spares.

AlmightyCitrus · 23/03/2011 17:13

Well, I had my 25 week check at the midwife yesterday (even though I am 27 wks), and I've decided I really don't like her very much. I am a) Old and b) Fat, and she is desperate to find something wrong with me, so I can fit the "problems with old/fat mums" profile. She sounds so disappointed when she tells me that my blood pressure is normal, and my wee sample is fine.

She also seems to think that I have absolutely nothing else to do and keeps making me appointments at inconvenient times. I'm supposed to have one of these glucose tolerance (or is it intolerance) tests and she's got me an appointment, 10 miles away at 8.40 am. I said I can't make it, she says I have to go. I can't drop the kids at school any earlier than 8.45. I might just sack it anyway and not go!

sasamaxx · 23/03/2011 17:14

Love the list Barbie - LOL at a snack/drink for birth partner - I'm just not considerate enough for that.

I haven't brought baby bedding in with me before CMH1stbaby and most people in the UK get home the next day anyway - maybe the same day if you have the baby early enough.

misshoohaa · 23/03/2011 17:23

Hi everyone.
I can't believe this thread has got two babies already! congratulations Moomin & Storm and hope that your little ones are fighting strong and doing well - impatient little things aren't they! Perhaps our next thread we can start adding the birth stats... it's amazing how quickly we've got here really.

Haha jasmine I can just see you filling it up with laundry and bedding and struting down the stairs!

Book reading - I've got active birth, which is really great actually and all about the positions you should try during labour and some good pictures too for DH so he knows what I mean, also got the baby whisperer!

I've put on about 4 kilos so far, which I think is about 9/10 lbs?

So a few stories to share.......

Going mental all through my pregnancy I haven't felt particularly out of sorts, all in all very normal. However Monday night I had a proper LUNATIC moment and to be honest it really scared me. Got into bed with DH, and as always seems to be the case these days, did a little burp. I then started giggling, which lead to massive hysterical laughing then I started absolutely sobbing and couldn't stop. Was the wierdest thing and I felt completely out of control! Hopefully a one off, but was very strange.

NCT Classes started last night. 7 couples and the facilitator was a retired midwife so that was good, I was worried it was going to be so someone with a few kids and some standard training. Started off talking about how we are likely to poo ourselves Hmm but was good at going through things about dilating etc and when to call or go into hospital. Got a full day Saturday, so looking forward to that. I mainly signed on so I can meet some other mummies in my area so hopefully we'll keep in touch once we've popped!

28 week appointment My bub is very clever, head down already so pleased about that. I've got low blood pressure, but feel fine and midwife didn't seem to concerned!

I think that's about it! Right I'm off to gorge on sugar puffs before we go to the IL's for dinner. I can't get enough of cereal at the moment!!

Clarkiee · 23/03/2011 17:24

My hospital bag is semi- packed. Need to wash all the baby grows/sleepsuits. My lovely friend has bought me the 'skip hop double duo' change bag so going to fill that up. I know some mums said you don't need a proper change bag but when I went on TAMBA talk the mum of twins said she'd bought that bag and although it was expensive it was the only bag she needed for years!

not suprised you are Hmm at an early morning appointment 10 miles away almighty! Its hard enough to get out of bed as it is. My Friday scans are at 8 am (about 3 miles away) think I might go then come back for a cheeky nap Grin my class are being taught by my maternity cover anyway (well actually she does more teaching than me at the moment).

takethatlady · 23/03/2011 18:16

Wow barbie that list is scarily-but-very-helpfully comprehensive. I've copied and pasted it onto a Word document so I can start ticking things off. DH will love it - he's been looking for a list for ages Grin. He's even scattier than me but lists stabilise him, lol :)

almighty your midwife sounds like a miserable, judgemental pain in the arse Grin. And fancy giving you an appointment at a time you can't do and telling you you have to go. Why? What's going to happen if you don't? . My midwife is very nice and seems very good and she always lets me listen to the baby's heartbeat, and I feel she would be sensitive whatever I said, so I definitely should not complain. But , she's also not really my cup of tea and whenever I've seen her she tells me about her own health problems (depression and horrific PMT). I don't mind that she has health problems, obviously, but I'm not sure she should tell me every time I see her that she's not in a very happy or healthy state of mind! Hmm It doesn't exactly fill me with confidence!

Been looking at that sling website and also at Moby slings. I like the look of the Moby ones, especially as I'm a first timer, so I might see if I can get one at the NCT sale on Saturday.

My car seat and foot muff came today but Mothercare say they've dispatched the buggy separately with an entirely different courier, and you can't track that courier on their website, so it's anyone's guess when it will arrive. It's a bit annoying but hopefully it will arrive before the weekend.

Clarkiee · 23/03/2011 19:10

cheers barbie Not had chance to have a proper look at list yet but have also cut and pasted it x

Hello, does anyone know of any ante natal exercise classes in Glasgow West End area? I am new and am assuming this discussion is with mums from Glasgow? Laura (32 weeks on Saturday)

Hi mummamia79 I'm not in Glasgow, but in South Lanarkshire.

supersunnyday is the sling something like this?
If so, it's very like a Tomy carrier - if you look at the pics, the baby is carried really low down (you should always be able to kiss your baby's head in a sling). It looks like she would be constantly kicking her baby's legs as she walked as well. The straps are also around the shoulders and top of the back with no proper weight distribution - I'd worry that trying a sling out like this would seriously put you off carrying your baby as it would become uncomfortable very quickly. Sorry if that's a bit negative, but I do want to be honest, and I wouldn't want you to be in discomfort when you just want to carry your baby Sad

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/03/2011 21:15

Blimey you lot have been chatty today Grin

Nurse - it has been shown that it is better to wait until the cord stops pulsing to maximise the flow of blood and therefore store of iron into the baby. However if you have a managed third stage they'll need to cut the cord straight away.
As to why I don't want an Epidural, this is because I fraking hate needles and the thought of them sticking a bloody great needle in my spine terrifies me. Plus more likely to need forceps/ventouse, and longer recovery time as well.
With DS I had a very long 1st stage of labour, in which I was given a half dose of dihydrocodeine to help get a couple of hours of sleep as I was exhausted, but nothing after that apart from gas and air (which did SFA). But I was having a shower about 20 mins after giving birth and DS was very alert and awake as well. Would love the same with this one.
I doubt you will need bedding in the hospital, they should provide you plenty of blankets. They normally swaddle the baby for you.

Sassamax - I know another mner who has even more slings than you, I am going to meet up with her soon to talk slings (have met her few times before) s I am determined to give them another try! Like the idea of a stretchy wrap.
Snacks for partner is important as you don't want them wandering off looking for something to eat!

Clarkiee - glad you got some good news at the latest scan.
Surely one twin on the front and one on the back will help balance you so you don't fall?? Hope you are okay anyway and are feeling rested. Sounds like your body is telling you to slow down!

Knackered - remember the Eastern European lass (think she was Polish) she gave birth up on her knees leaning on the head board of her bed, I would like to try that. That looks like a good position. Being on your back is the worst as gravity is working against you and it is only for the convenience of the staff!

Millie - I have raspberry leaf tea in tablet form - I took them from 37 weeks when I had DS. 37cm - wow that is quite a big head!! No wonder you needed some help!

Moomin - thanks for sharing your birth story, glad you got some lovely skin-to-skin cuddles, hope you have more and more as little Florence gets bigger and stronger Smile

BPrincess - yes I am feeling with tired. Also at my MW appt, I have been diagnosed with mild SPD - been suffering pains in my lower back, hips and abdomen. Just put it down to being crap. MW offered to referred me to a physio and I said no need but went shopping earlier and I was finding it hard steering the trolle, my tailbone really hurt and so did my back. So will ask for the referral - let's face it at only 29 weeks it's only going to get worse!

Motherofsnortpigs - yey to new netbook screen!!

79harmonica - yep, seeing the news from Moomin is making me think I need to get the cot sorted!!!

8rubberduckies - I have a Baby Bjorn, I think DH will be more comfortable with that. Think it can only be used from 3 months though.

Mummynumber2 - hope you are feeling better, have you spoken to your MW for advice? Not sure what that numbness could mean unless baby has hit a nerve?

Jer79 - I read and contributed on the New baby thread! No cry sleep solution is a good read. If you are bfing, step away from anything by Clare Buy-My-Book. My cat would give better bfing advice! Can recommend the Food of Love by Kate Evans, I need to get it back off a friend. Though am thinking of just letting her have that one and buying myself another copy as she is rather attached to it Grin

Barbie - yes I think it sounds like you have SPD - and worse than I have it, get to your MW pronto and demand some physio - take hostages if necessary! Sorry you have had such crap care Sad. Will your telephone interview be part of the programme?

Jasmine - LOL at your bump's musical tastes, I think it's great!! Glad you enjoyed the yoga! LOL @ your useful sling!

CMH1stbaby - chocolate is quite distracting Grin

Moog72 - welcome back!

Confessions - sorry about the cold, always worse when your pg!! Hope you feel better soon!

Almightysickness - your MW seems like a unreasonable cow!! I would sack the appt off too!

Misshoohaa - best thing I got from my NCT AN classes is making new friends, I am still in regular contact with 5 of the couples (there were 8 of us all together, 1 couple moved to NI shortly afterwards the other declined to keep in touch).

TTL - grrrrr about the pushchair, hope it arrives soon!

Mummamia - this is due in June thread so we are from all over! Might be best posting in the Mumsnet Local section for Glasgow? Welcome anyway!

link to stats thread

In case anyone wanted to update themselves!

Have had a lovely day, DH had the day off and we went over the Penines for a pub lunch then dropped into PILs. DS had a lovely time but mananged to do 3 poos in his pants Hmm Baby moving loads!!

8rubberduckies · 23/03/2011 21:41

Thanks for the sling tips Sasamaxx, welcome back moog and welcome mummammia79, when are you due?

Barbie that list is great! I have promised my friend a list of what you really need and it's a good starting point. Spending all of your labour in hospital is rubbish, isn't it? I was in hospital for 2 and a half days before having ds (induced). I was going nuts by the time I went into the delivery suite. I was made to lie in my back for a lot of my labour as ds was being monitored, and was like a naughty child and kept on getting onto all fours on the bed every time anyone turned their backs. It feels so much better and more natural.

For those who were discussing books, we only had "What to Expect in the First Year", and we just used it to look stuff up like how to take ds's temperature. We completely winged it when it came to sleeping / feeding / routines etc., and followed our instincts. It seemed to work, but then he was a pretty good feeder and sleeper. I sometimes felt like I was a bit of a failure for not following a certain "parenting style", cos all the Mums seemed to be talking about what books they were following, but I am so glad we didn't in retrospect, as that was all I felt guilty about, and it seems like a lot of the books just seem to make parents feel bad if they don't achieve what the book prescribes.

Oh I forgot to say yesterday baba is in breech position according to midwife.... arrrrrrghhhhh! My dream the other night was actually a prophecy!

8rubberduckies · 23/03/2011 21:51

PS Sorry to hear that the numbers suffering from SPD seems to be growing. It is truly rubbish. Barbie please make sure you get some physio - can you afford to pay for some if not? If not, get yourself a back support belt, or a massive bit of tubi-grip, both will help loads. Kara I had to wait about 4 weeks for my referral to physio through the NHS with ds, so I'd start some self-help stuff whilst waiting if I were you.

Good link for info on SPD here

Milliemuffin · 23/03/2011 21:57

Knackered76 - your name just appeared on a thread I was reading from a while ago. Today in the car after swimming my DS (3y8m) decided to put a £1 coin in his mouth, the one we use for his locker, and unfortunately he swallowed it. I did panic a little but NHS Direct said not to worry and hopefully it'll pass. I've read a few threads so I'm hopeful all will be ok but I'll still be keeping a close eye on him (and his poo!) for the next week or so.

sasamaxx · 23/03/2011 22:13

Kara - fantastic - that is totally the best way to pick something and if she has loads of slings, she'll be well experienced in working out what is right for you Smile
(There are LOADS of people with more slings than me lol - I don't know many sling-obsessives on mumsnet, but a lot of us frequent other forums too and know each other on there Wink )

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/03/2011 22:23

Millie Shock at your DS swallowing a pound coin!!

8rd - MW suggested a support belt, I have one but it is crap, velcro fastening and the velcro keeps scratching my back! Going to look for a new one.

IoannaD · 24/03/2011 05:35

Re: books

Jer, 2 of my friends who gave birth last year recommended I bin everything else and just read "the rough guide to babies". It is a laugh, says it as it is and doesn't get you paranoid. Husband loved it too!

jasmine51 · 24/03/2011 09:11

Morning all
Has anyone got any suggestions for easing sore feet? As if dealing with sore pelvic area isnt enough, I've now got red raw sore feet like someone has attacked them with a sand blaster...and I havent even been walking far recently - anyone else got this? Im not sure a pedicure or soaking is the answer..wont that just make them softer? I wish I could walk bare footed along a warm sandy beach but those are in short supply around here so I'm looking for another plan. Ideas?

Ive just worked out how to use my other baby sling - have got a Wilkinet as well as the Better Baby - can report that the Better Baby is far superior for carrying washing and books around the house!

Millie has the coin reappeared yet?....and did you fish or flush?

nomoreheels · 24/03/2011 10:06

Morning all, I can't remember if I ever joined this thread or not (pregnancy brain) but I certainly hadn't looked in a while, so am more or less new. Grin

This is DC1, EDD 03/06/11 and it's a girl.

I'm feeling pretty good this week, after a rough month of terrible dental problems that resulted in a a root canal, and also a very sore pelvis. I also had a rotten time at my GTT test last week, had AntiD shots the same day so I had a crap morning of waiting around and feeling poked & prodded. They didn't contact me after the test so no GD at least.

But anyhow - feeling much better now, pelvis pain has subsided, nursery is nearly done and I feel like we're just about ready. Except I still haven't watched my BF DVD or attended a parenting class - but that's all to come in April.

DP is very excited, he speaks to her every day and wants to get a baby sign language book which is very sweet.

I'm going to get some professional shots of my bump by a friend who's a photographer tomorrow, should be interesting!

sasamaxx · 24/03/2011 10:15

lol Jasmine - loving the sling comparisons - keep them coming - can you test them for carrying foodstuffs too?
Do you have a chiropodist/podiatrist near you? I much prefer the job they do on my feet to a pedicurist as they get rid of all the hard skin which has formed around pressure points etc completely.

nomoreheels you have the same EDD as me. Horrible about your root canal - I am so overdue a check-up Blush - will try to book an appt today. Can you upload any of your shots from the shoot tomorrow? Would be lovely to see Smile
