Hello,
Started a new thread ladies, fingers crossed it works xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
motherofsnortpigs · 20/03/2011 22:41

evening all. Was going to have a catch up and post but DH has hijacked the computer so he can buy bits for the tandem that he and DD1 ride. There is only so much I can be bothered to write on my phone. Maybe tomorrow...

AlmightyCitrus · 21/03/2011 07:43

Don't know how many of you "do" facebook, but apparently www.facebook.com/nubyuk are giving away a breast pump if you send them an 18-22 wk scan photo.
May be of use to someone.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 21/03/2011 07:54

Jasmine - I think I would be seriously reconsidering Godmothers, how rude of your friend!! Angry

Unless you are naming your baby "Sandra does the Samba in Cuba" or "Fenchurch Street Station". Grin

Operation Turn Our Garden From a Swamp to a Place Where DS Can Ride His Trike, begins today Grin

NurseSunshine · 21/03/2011 09:20

Well Jasmine, if you will tell people you are naming your child after the number 27 bus route... Grin That is a bit Shock though. Hope you let her know how rude she was being.

Almightycitrus thanks, I've already got a breast pump or I would've entered that.

Sasamaxx just make sure you know how to put them back on again!

Can't remember who it was the other day asking about movements low down? Does this mean the baby is feet down? Could they be hand movements? As all my movements are belly button level or lower. How can they tell if the baby is breech?

NurseSunshine · 21/03/2011 09:21

Haha I've just posted the above and got a kick in the ribs for my troubleGrin

BarbieLovesKen · 21/03/2011 09:48

Morning all.

Monday again - how quick does the weekend go by?

Huge welcome to Malkie.

Sasamaxx mines definately breech at the minute - Im sure because ds was breech until about week 37 and this feels exactly the same - constant kicks in the fanjo and bum Blush, bump is flatter at the bottom and I find it hard to bend as I know head is under ribs (lots of being breathless - more than if he was the other way round). Nothing to worry about at this stage though, Im not bothered in the slightest (although it is that little bit more uncomfortable).

Nurse, personally, I swear by grobags - we didnt discover them until dd was over a year (and got her a 12 - 18month one) but were disappointed we hadnt found them sooner. Had ds in them from very early on. My 2 kick and move about alot in their sleep and blankets are always kicked off. I'd often lean over and touch them in the middle of the night and they were freezing to touch. Also grobags offer the exact temp they should be at, so I wasnt worrying about overheating them either. (Not on commission, promise). Only thing is they are roughly 40 quid over her Shock. But I've kept ds's 0-6 one, thankfully.

Clarkiee Hope your feeling ok. The injection definately does sting (I had to get it when I was 30 weeks with ds, after "loosing" my mucous (sp?) plug). He didnt arrive until 40+2 but it does offer a little peace of mind. Hoping they stay put for a while longer. x

Anyone completely misjudging the size of their bumps these days? just in the last 2 I keep banging mine into things - I cant seem to judge it at all..

All this talk of buying and organising - Im really going to have to at the very least make a start on something..

CMH1stbaby · 21/03/2011 10:07

morning all, been reading and catching up after a weekend of DIY (yawn) and cake eating (yum). My bump also keeps catching me out although rather than bumping into things I seem to keep spilling food down it which is embarrassing as people can track my food for the day!!

Was at a tea party yesterday and people kept handing me babies ("because you're pregnant") - not sure if they wanted me to practise or if they were seeing if I knew what to do. Either way I handed them straight to my DH as found the whole thing a little embarrassing! Good news is he didn't drop any but then he does play rugby... Grin

mrswantstobeamum · 21/03/2011 11:24

Hi ladies, hope everyone had a nice weekend. Ours was lovely and relaxing. We went to visit some friends of DH who have a 14 week-old baby boy, whom I got to cuddle. I absolutely love cuddling babies, and it made me even more eager for our own to get here!

We've bought some stuff - a pram (a Bugaboo Cameleon, second hand off E-bay), a carseat (a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix), some clothes, a breast pump and bottles (Medela), and some other bits and pieces, but I feel like there is so much left to buy and organise before June.

TTL and Jasmine, we also have a Cabriofix, and I was able to buy the base on E-bay for around £35, so you may want to have a look on there if you want a base but don't want to pay £120 or whatever they cost new.

Merlion · 21/03/2011 11:33

mrs I was wondering about second hand bases - I know advice is not to buy a second hand seat but was assuming that didn't apply to bases but wasn't really sure? We have seat from DS that we will use but as we didn't have a car when he was tiny we didn't buy a base as we didn't need it.

Clarkiee hope you are doing ok. I am certainly not a fat cat! DH has to deal with the traders and is always complaining about the idiotic things that they do and then trying to blame his team for their screw ups when things go bad - likewise they take all the credit when things go well.

BarbieLovesKen · 21/03/2011 11:49

Sorry dont have a clue about bases. We'll be using ds's car seat as we bought it new and know it wasnt crashed.

I have the most ridiculous addiction to strawberry halls soothers ever since that week I was sick. Im eating up to 3 packets a day Blush. Definately a minimum of 2 per day Blush.

sasamaxx · 21/03/2011 13:00

Barbie - glad someone else is getting the low down kicks. You're right tho - plenty of time to turn so will just put it out of my head.

Nurse I'm just guessing just now - but yeah I do think that when the strong jabbing feelings are low down, it is probably feet as the legs will be stronger than the hands. Mind you - saying that - later on, the head bobs off the bottom a fair bit and feels quite similar to this.

I've been thinking about 2nd hand bases too - I don't see why it would be a problem if you check it over really carefully and make sure all the bits seem to be in working order.

Nurse good point about the pram covers - I've been caught out that way before Wink - need to remember to draw a diagram or something lol

Gillzz · 21/03/2011 13:16

Hi everyone,

Sorry not posted for a while laptop broke but I have been catching up everyday on I phone! I'am 29 weeks today, was at midwife on fri and have been booked in for 32 week reassurance scan so looking forward to that and to double check it's a girl lol x

Oh my god I'm addicted to strawberry halls soothers to I think that's my craving lol! So weird!!!

Post from few weeks ago wrinkly hands! My hands look like a 90 year olds!! Got engaged in sep and my hands are so ugly really hope they go back to norm.

Glad everyone well xx

BarbieLovesKen · 21/03/2011 14:03

Gillzz I dont believe you!!!! halls soothers too? of all things!! how strange!!! Grin

mrswantstobeamum · 21/03/2011 14:31

I assumed a second-hand base would be okay as I haven't seen anything indicating otherwise. We bought it from a lovely family (picked it up in person - would probably be expensive to ship as they are very heavy), and everything seems to be in good working order. We did buy the carseat new.

Kara, I'm in the middle of Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and I'm really enjoying it, even the 'hippier' parts. I thought I would skim through the birth stories as I was initially most interested in the more informative part, but I'm actually finding the birth stories pretty encouraging.

takethatlady · 21/03/2011 15:23

Welcome malkie and congratulations! How many weeks gone are you?

barbie yes I misjudge my bump size. Not by bumping into things, but yesterday I put a top on I haven't worn since January and seriously thought 'oh for god's sake I can't believe I have shrunk one of my favourite things in the wash. Again.'. Then I caught sight of myself in a mirror and remembered I am no longer the woman I was Grin

jasmine Shock at someone laughing at your name!! People saying they don't like it is one thing (we had that before, but now we're keeping the name quiet because we figure people will be nicer when it's on a real baby. She's called Isobel though, so if people don't like it they can piss right off Grin). But laughing! That is very silly ...

CMH1stbaby I hate that whole 'you're pregnant/of fertile age - hold this baby while we all stare at you and judge' sort of thing. Honestly, about five people have handed me babies and then quickly taken them away from me again with comments like 'well, I'm sure you'll be alright when your own one is born' Confused. I don't even know what I'm doing wrong!

Oooh thanks for the tip mrswantstobeamum - I'll definitely look into that.

How often are other people getting kicks? I'm just asking because I still feel like some days I get loads and others hardly any at all. The last two days I've been having kicks but they're much much fainter than they were before. Also, they're all over. I'll get some low down, and then five minutes later some really high up, and quite frequently all across the middle from side to side. Is that normal? I figured it was hands and feet - but the idea I could tell her position from her kicks is worrying!

I've only had about four or five gentle kicks in the last 24 hours, I'd say (though I don't know about overnight).

NurseSunshine · 21/03/2011 16:19

I think I'm the same TTL, feel as though she should be moving ALL the time but I suppose if you think about how often newborns sleep it's the same before they're born. Would be interested to hear from others who know what they're on about though :)

takethatlady · 21/03/2011 16:52

Make that ten or twenty gallumphing smacks in the groin in the last half an hour Grin

Whenever I worry about it she goes a little stir crazy, so that's good!

Glad someone else is a worrypot like me though nurse Wink

mrswantstobeamum · 21/03/2011 17:09

TTL, I normally get loads of kicks, punches, twists, rolls, etc every day, especially when I'm sat at the computer working or settling into bed for the night.

I think it's normal for there to be some fluctuation in movement, but if you're worried give your MW a call.

mrswantstobeamum · 21/03/2011 17:10

Accidentally posted too soon! I intended to add that despite my LO being normally quite active, yesterday he was unusually still most of the day, which caused me to worry. I listened to his heartbeat a couple of times with my Angelsounds monitor, and it was steady and strong. Today he's been up to his usual tricks, so I think everything must be fine.

sasamaxx · 21/03/2011 17:44

Oh yes TTL and Nurse - I find the frequency of kicks varies hugely

And yes Barbie I am terrible for misjudging my bump - I need whiskers or something - I am always brushing it against people/nearly burning it etc

NoToast · 21/03/2011 19:50

I'm getting kicks and little punches all over. The strangest though is when I feel an arm or leg squirming under my skin. There really is something in there...

I had my first appointment at Gloucester Women's today and been told I have to eat more (as a newbie diabetic I'm very frightened of letting loose with food and my snack planning not up to scratch). But my word was it shiny there. It's only been open for a few months. Really don't want to move anywhere else right now, we may have to set up camp in a caravan in their car park Grin

Jasmine I have a teeny little house in Plymouth, that we've been renting out to a friend as it won't sell- luckily they are ready to move on. It's that or a stable, or the caravan in the grounds of the maternity unit!

NoToast · 21/03/2011 19:55

And Jasmine cannot believe your friend was rude about the name.

Have been lucky to avoid any rude comments (so far) but seems like lots of people on here have had off comments about something to do with their pregnancy. Maybe I should get out more Wink

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 21/03/2011 20:10

I wish I was only getting food down my bump. A fair bit of it doesn't make it that far Blush am constantly fishing food out of my clevage.

Current bun is all over the show with it's movements. Top, bottom, left, right and in the middle. The frequency and violence of them vary as well. It also thinks my bladder is a great play thing, much more so than DS ever did It was very sweet yesterday though. I took DS to the play ground for the first time in ages and when bump heard all the kids playing it started moving

Have finally put my name down at the local go green, recycling/second hand kids shops for a moses basket with rocking stand. Will save about 2/3s the cost and they deliver free.

Oh speaking of bladders being used as trampolines. There goes mine again.

8rubberduckies · 21/03/2011 21:40

I had to laugh when catching up on the thread today, as last night saw me with rather a complicated mirror set-up involving a wall-mounted shaving mirror and a compact mirror sorting out my lady garden before a trip to the swimming pool today Grin. Its not looking good down there after a very patchy and laissez-faire Immac session, but I refuse to wax [pained emoticon].

I had a dream last night that baba was breech... woke up in a slight sweat... I am also getting kicks low down, and what feels like punches in the lungs. Midwife appointment tomorrow so I'll ask her opinion on what's going on in there (baba was breech at 20 week scan). I haven't had a midwife appointment now since Christmas; I know you don't have them so often with your subsequent babies but it seems like an age ago now...

I also have food falling down my cleavage most days, and am currently sporting gravy down my bump Blush. Classy.

Mummynumber2 · 21/03/2011 21:49

nurse I've also had a lot of low down movements and was certain that he's breached at the mo but the scan on Saturday showed that he's using my head as a pillow. Which explains a lot Smile

I read that if you're not feeling many kicks you should drink a cold glass of juice and lay down on your left side with your hand on your stomach. Then relax and count how many movements you feel in an hour. Apparently it's only a concern if you feel less than 10. When I was worried the other day I did that and had felt 10 movements in 15 mins!
