Hello,
Started a new thread ladies, fingers crossed it works xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
8rubberduckies · 18/03/2011 15:06

It's the beginning of a love-hate relationship with Gaviscon Nurse. I swig it from the bottle like an alcoholic Grin, and I hate the stuff.

NurseSunshine · 18/03/2011 15:13

Oh dear :( I feared as much. Have been meaning to make GP appointment for some other stuff so will get prescription for a bottle of G as well (Loving free prescriptions. Had a filling the other week and didn't care cuz it was FREE!Grin)

NurseSunshine · 18/03/2011 15:14

Any preference on taste? Minty crap or aniseedy crap?

BarbieLovesKen · 18/03/2011 15:17

I remember when I had dd thinking there was something seriously wrong with me. I then realised I didnt have heartburn Grin

Nurse aniseed is bleugh. I like the new pink bottle the best (??!!).

Lucky you lot getting it for free!!! doesnt happen here and its almost ?9 for a bottle (one a week needed in our house). Another reason we should move to UK...

NurseSunshine · 18/03/2011 15:22

Eeep ?9 a bottle Shock even to buy from a shop here they're only about 3 quid. Bad times. How was the parade Barbie? Hope it was nice weather for you

BarbieLovesKen · 18/03/2011 15:30

Was a gorgeous day, thanks Nurse. Sun shone all day and parade was brilliant, there was bouncing castles and face painting etc and load of family gathered at a great aunts (who lived in that village) for big buffet.

In work now though and really cranky and tired - woke up at 2am this morning and got up to watch tv - didnt get back to sleep until after 6! (and was up at 7). Oh and bad mother alert but brought dd to school (after much rushing to make it after my sleepless night). No school today Blush. Was wondering why it was so quite Grin.

Am hormonal lunatic today. Told teenage boy who was taking to long to cross zebra crossing at work today to get a haircut Grin. Am turning into my mother grandmother.

Hows you nurse? are you feeling any better?

NurseSunshine · 18/03/2011 15:43

Yes thanks, just up and down really.

S'ok, I feel like telling boys to get a haircut and I am 23 Blush LOL @ taking her to school when it was closed! At least you didn't just leave her there, that would have been a bad mother offence!

8rubberduckies · 18/03/2011 15:53

Minty crap every time here.

Barbie your St Patricks Day sounds great, and you can be forgiven for your bad-parentness, especially in your current condition Grin. I feel like a bad parent most of the time compared with how super-organised and domesticated my childminder is, she puts me to shame Blush. Just getting my one ds out of the house with a clean bum and hands, as well as all he needs for the day is a grand feat for me at the moment.

jasmine51 · 18/03/2011 17:47

Hiya
Sorry to hear some of you are having a tough time. To join in with the general moaning I think my MS has come back Sad...or it might be the result of my research (see below)

Clarkiee I have my second umbilical doppler thingy on Tuesday so I can relate to your worries. Last time the comment was 'our first aim is to get you as far as 28 weeks' which I still think was a terrifying thing to say...maybe I'll be on the steroids with you and we can compare hairy chests and bulging muscles...what, not that type of steroid?

Ok, the more important part of the post..a report back on the M&S giant mini eggs...
In the interests of research only you understand, I sacrificed myself for you all. Tis true, M&S mini eggs are twice the size of the regular ones...you might not think it when you see them but put them side by side when you get home and they really are. The outer shell seems slightly harder but I couldnt really detect alot of difference in the taste - the chocolate was different but not better or worse...just different...a completely acceptable substitute methinks.
However...in order to clear my palate between tastings I also bought a bag of their white, milk and dark mini eggs....now those are a dangerous discovery!

Thank gawd I dont have one of those glucose tests tomorrow...would be off the scale!
x

mrswantstobeamum · 18/03/2011 17:52

Hi ladies, not much to report here. I'm at 27 weeks today, and I'm considering myself to be in the final trimester even though some say that's not for another week!

DH and I were just talking about books we loved as children, and I remembered 'Love You Forever' by Robert Munsch. DH wasn't familiar with it, so I googled it and read it aloud to him and LO. Needless to say, I sobbed my way through it and am still having difficulty composing myself!

If you aren't familiar with the story, have a look: www.rogerknapp.com/inspire/loveforever.htm. I dare you to make it through without crying!

NurseSunshine · 18/03/2011 17:59

Oh dear MrsWants, I welled up by the second line Blush

That's not a terribly positive thing to say is it Jasmine. Fingers crossed all will be fine on tuesday :) I appreciate you sacrificing yourself to "test" mini eggs so I don't have to, but would appreciate it a whole lot more if you'd posted some to me Grin

I've got a carrot cake in the oven. It's got carrots and raisins in and the icing will be made of cream cheese (calcium) so it's super healthy, honest

jasmine51 · 18/03/2011 18:02

nurse I'm disgusted with you...that sounds far too healthy...get your nose in a bag of mini eggs now!

NurseSunshine · 18/03/2011 18:13

Sorry, I forgot to mention I will be eating the entire cake. That better? Grin

(PS I'm joking)

(Probably)

mrswantstobeamum · 18/03/2011 18:18

Mmmm, carrot cake! Sounds very healthy and completely justified, no matter how much icing sugar you must add to the cream cheese Wink

Jasmine, I think we need to convene a tasting panel to compare all of the various Easter confectionary offerings!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 18/03/2011 20:37

I haver just finished reading Call the Midwife that had me in floods at a couple of points!

I've read that love you forever story before, it is sooo beautiful. Sometimes when I look at DS I realise I love him so much that I feel as though my heart is breaking at even the merest thought of losing him. I keep telling him he will always be my baby Smile

spg · 18/03/2011 22:04

A regular reader, if not poster here..

Clarkiee, I had a couple of those steroid things 3 weeks ago; Apparently, its not that uncommon. It enhances some surfacant and helps the growth of the lungs in the baby..We did ask the midwife as to why it was not given to e'one then..and she said that it is given when they even remotely suspect that things can develop earlier than normal or for women whose prev deliveries have been like that..

In my case, I was 25 weeks when i was given the steroids; I had had some spotting that day and since it was the first time i had had any spotting, i panicked and went to the ANC centre..They did all the usual tests and the consultant did an internal scan and they couldn't identify a clear reason for the spotting, except for a polyp outside the cervix. So, though the consultant said there was no sign of the blood coming from the placenta or the cervix and thus not signalling any risk factors, he said he was giving the steroids as sometimes bleeding can lead to contractions etc etc..
We were a bit dazed overall to be honest on that day and just took the injections and didn't quiz him much.

But, i have since spoken to a doctor friend of mine as well and its quite safe and has no side effects on the baby; we also got a leaflet from the midwife abt the injection that lists side effects etc; but apparently, with steroid types, the claimed side effects typically manifest only when the steroids have been used for a long period of time.

So, i would say, as far as the steroids go, don't worry. It is more of a precautionary measure that they do, more than anything else.

Clarkiee · 18/03/2011 22:21

Thanks for your kind words ttl, rubberduckies nurse (minty is best) jasmine (lol on hairy chest comparisons) and spg. Thanks for reasurance spg not too worried about the injections sound like they are a good thing. More worried about having my babies next week! The injections don't half bloody sting don't they!

Went to see my boss she was lovely and said if you need to go off sick do it. On a school trip to museum on Monday (timing!?!) scan on Tuesday where I'll ask the doc but I'm thinking of either finishing then or going home for my release time on Wed and Thurs (which will be half days) and finishing on Friday (pretty sure I'll have another scan then so will be a half day too). Certain doc will sign me off.

Good news Morgage approved!!! Yay! (sorry I said I hate bankers merlion- I don't really (well maybe the fat cats)).

Might give that book a look in.

How is everybodies Nurseries coming along? Has anyone got any themes. Want to get some inspiration x

Hi everybody, I haven't managed to keep up this week. It's all been stupidly busy. I'll try to read more when I'm more awake nut I hope everyone's OK. How worrying for you Clarkiee it's great they're keeping a really close eye on you though.

I had an appointment with the worlds worst midwidwife today, she insisted that at 28 weeks I'm now going into the 2nd trimester and when I corrected her and said I was just going into the 3rd she insisted that the 1st trimester was until week 27 and 3rd started at 34 weeks. Hmm She was so convincing about this I started to doubt myself, am I going completely mad or should she be struck off immediately?! I'm just glad I'm seeing the consultant a lot so don't have to rely on her.

Scan tomorrow!

NurseSunshine · 18/03/2011 23:21

LOL MummyN2 that's ridiculous! I would worry about a MW who can't count, she'd be telling you you were 35 cm dilated or something!

Great news on the morgtgage Clarkiee, and really pleased your boss is being kind and understanding :)

I wish you could all taste my carrot cake because it is goooood Grin

Clarkiee · 18/03/2011 23:57

Oh my god mummy2 was your midwife pregnant!?!? Its sounds like she has a major case of baby brain (although that is a bit insulting to us lot).

Nurse stop teasing. Mmm carrot cake. I've just had a nice hot slice of Warby's buttered toast Smile

Clarkiee - yey on Mortgage approval!
How are you feeling, when are you going back to the consultant? Hopefully the steroids will do the job.

One of the things that I picked up from the Guide to Childbirth, is that laughter can bring on and help labour. But it would need to be something side-splittingly funny! DH and I watched Father Ted during my long and stalling 1st stage with Daniel. However I have found something that has literally had me crying with laughter - Damn You Auto Correct. I have saved the link on my netbook and will get DH to save it on his phone so we have a giggle Grin

takethatlady · 19/03/2011 09:04

clarkiee yay for your mortgage approval. They must have believed your baby denial Smile

nurse sasamaxx told me about refreshers/love hearts and I haven't looked back. Sod the Gaviscon, eat the sweets!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 19/03/2011 10:37

Good news on the mortgage Clarkiee, must be your reward for being so generous WinkGrin.
I can't remember, how far along are you? Am finding it hard to believe that you might be graduating any time now (even with twins on board). So much so that I had a odd dream about being sent (needlessly) to hospital to be induced at 28 weeks. I must have had MN2's MW in the dream because the reason given was she'd had another girl go into labour that day who was the same height and weight as me so she though all her pg girls that height and weight were going to pop (WTF?!). After a day and a half in hospital, a steriod injection and a failed induction later I was back home carrying on with my problem free pregnancy. Odd - yes indeed. I can only trace this back to your news really.

I'm in the mint gaviscon club. We get it for DS and don't think he'd go for aniseed. ( at thought of gaviscon, but it's better than burning reflux)
