Cads and Sarah - wonderful news about the babies turning _ i'm so pleased for you.

Hope you are feeling better now Enthusia - know what you mean about not knowing whether you feel crap because its just that stage of pregnancy or IS THIS IT????!!!!!!

Thnaks for film review Karma - plan to take Dd tomorrow

Twinkle - how are you feeling? How are you planning to get through the school hols - do you have some help? we are just finishing ours and Dh has been off for most of the week.

twinkle1 · 20/10/2005 10:17

kristina
We are going up north home for the weekend, then on sun me and dh are coming home and leaving kids with the grandparentsYeahhh my mum is going to bring them back on wed,so i will not have a full week with them.I love them very much but it would have been very tiring having them for a full week on my own
Im off shopping in a bit, could this have something to do with getting a letter today saying my MA is starting to be paid from tommorow!!!!!! i think so
It will be paid till 15 april that seems like such a long time away, but im sure it will fly by.
Enthusia sounds like you are having a bad time with your hormones Just think though 66 days till xmas and you will def have a gorgeous new baby for then

enthusia, i don't want to get your hopes up but you sound like you're having all the same things as i was. believe me - you know the difference between braxton hicks and contractions in retrospect. bh's are an uncomfortable hardening at the top of the bump, contractions are more like period cramping in the lower bump or lower back. i know what you mean though, you think you'll know when it's labour, but i didn't have a clue to begin with.

feeling very bouyant, i can't believe my body has actually given birth! i feel like i've joined a secret club. it's very hard to leave natalie alone at the moment, but i must use dh more before he goes back to work. i've been doing the night shift, and i'm pretty shattered. her eating is quite erratic and last night she wanted to eat every hour - hour and half. keep thinking 'is this normal/ whats wrong' but i'm sure we'd know about it if she was unhappy.

we're intending to try taking her out this afternoon for her first walk. quite nervous about it - it will probably take us an hour just to leave the house.

hope you're all well xx

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 10:46

Oh twinkle that sounds perfect. Just long enough for them to miss you but not so long that you feel guilty

What a nice mum you have. We have useless parents but great siblings, but they are all working or have young kids of their own, so no one to dump our kids on. Need to save that for after the birth, epspecially if i end up with a CS. Can you tell I am still very stressed about this??? Cant believe you are so calm about it......

have a great few days alone with Dh. Tho suspect you will be nesting rather than having a romantic weekend

Enthusia · 20/10/2005 10:53

Nova - thanks for the message, will let you know!!! Just feel so odd at mo, back to no motivation like at beginning of pg and soooo tired and hormonal, what with the twinges and my paranoid self going 'ohh is this it?'

You sound as if you are doing great, I agree that you should use DH for as long as you have him around for, will also help bonding and for him to see what you do all day whilst he is at work. Make him appreciate you even more that way

Hope your walk goes well.

It is really weird hearing everyones news about half term as this is the first time that I have not had to think about it!!! It seems strange that the normal build up is gone, oh well different kind of build up happening now!

Hope you do manage to get a break Twinkle. It sounds as if you are doing an amazing job or carrying on considering the pain you are in! Maybe your DH could do a lot of pampering in this time off to make up for you being uncomfortable!!!

Londoner · 20/10/2005 10:55

Hello all, sorry to be so lax, I'm just really knackered!

So pleased to read about babies turning..
Cads, how wonderful to get the green light for your home birth after all, hooray!
sarahs, how wonderful you can go for a vbacs.... yay! Happy Birthday to your daughter today!
Enthusia, like you say, sounds like your body is really prepping well for birth now. Have been having the same sort of thing with wind (sorry tmi..) and poop expulsions (ditto) now that baby is 4/5 engaged and really bearing down... husband looked really panicky last night when he saw me walking down the hall as I sort of walk with my knees locked together towards the end of the day... lol! I don't think there is any thing more you could be doing apart from getting some fresh air on a lovely day like this, and trying to do other nice stuff for yourself, v. important. I feel mental preparation is really important at this stage, and giving time to yourself/considering your feelings & emotions at this stage is really important.
twinkle, your poor lamb. Sounds too much for any woman , roll on birth day.
karma, pram sounds great, can just see you test running it round the front room now!
busy, sorry to hear about the IR, I always think one major thing like that happens just before a baby is born, hope your husband coped okay, I bet he did just fine.
BEKs, hope you had a good rest and feeling better today..
OMG hamster you're 38 weeks now already! v.exciting!
bob, manual is hilarious, good find!
nova, sounds like you're a natural, lovely to hear your posts....

Hi to everyone else too....!

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 11:00

Londoner - can I ask a stupid questions ? What does it mean if teh baby's head is engaged so early ? Isnt this your 4th??? I thought head only engaged at the end or in labour in subsequent preg?

Busyalexsmummy · 20/10/2005 11:10

not nescessarily, ds didnt engage till labour, this one has started to engage already

Londoner · 20/10/2005 11:14

Hi Kristina, too vacuous at mo to answer that so I searched on the web and have copied and pasted stuff here in reply, would be better than my half guessed ramblings this morning I reckon! You're right though, they do say your baby prob won't engage until labour if you've had multiple pregs but hey, I don't like to run with the crowd!
***
As your baby grows towards the end of pregnancy, the shape of your uterus, your liver and intestines encourage your baby's presenting part (usually head, but sometimes bottom) to dip down into the pelvic cavity. This can occur as early as 33 or 34 weeks, but may not happen before labour starts. If the baby engages in the pelvis early this does not mean that you will give birth early. Usually the baby will engage in the pelvis by 37 to 38 weeks, but this process can also be affected by lots of other things:

? If you are very sporty and have well-toned abdominal muscles this may mean that your tummy is held in tighter, which changes the angle of the baby's body and presenting part to the pelvic brim. In this position it is harder for your baby to engage in the pelvis. To encourage your baby's head to engage you need to relax your tummy muscles and "dangle your belly" out at the front.

? If you have had several babies before, your tummy muscles may be loose, which makes it easy for the baby to move and change position a lot. Sometimes your baby may not lie up and down (longitudinal), but across your tummy (transverse) or at an angle (oblique). Positions like these make it less likely that your baby will engage in the pelvis before the start of labour.

Londoner · 20/10/2005 11:17

P.S. Kristina, your question is a good one, not stupid, no more self deprication now!

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 11:18

OOOh BAM - a whole new thing for me to worry about!!!! I thought it was only first time!!!! Oh well if baby doesn't turn soon I've had it anyway.

BTW Alexander is on our name shortlist - i think its lovely, Dh not so keen. Though I have no idea what its got to do with him anyway..... . Also James, Max and Jack.

Anyone else willing to spill the beans on names? I dont know why you are so coy, when we have been discussing poos and winds and wet knickers [yuck emoticon]

Busyalexsmummy · 20/10/2005 12:22

CADS-not sure wether ds knows im having a baby or not, hes 20months now, if you ask him where the baby is, he pulls my top upto show my bump, he also kisses and pats it, and leans his head on it and goes ahhhh! and if you ask him where the baby is going to sleep he knows its the cot in our room. He has started to become obsessed with babies the last few weeks, everytime theres a pampers/sma etc advert on tv hes like-baby! baby! baby! and definately seems to understand that babies are much smaller versions of himself.........so i dont know, i think he sort of understands and im constantly talking to him about the baby to try and get him used to the idea now time is drawing closer, i think it'll be a shock to him but im confident i can make him feel needed-ie please can you pass wet wipes/nappy for the baby, can you help me give baby a bath etc etc which he'll love because he loves helping me!

KristinaM-awww alexander sounds sweet, alex is just plain alex-the amount of times we get asked "is it alexander?"...no its just Alex!

for boys so far I like Alfie and Max
girls theres a long list incl:
grace
lily
freya-not keen dp choice
fay- "
Lottie-love this name
Alannah
and more that i cant remember right now!

its really bad but just cant be arsed to look for names this time round(alex had a name by 15 wks!) I just start looking through the baby books and get fed up of looking by the time i get to B!

Liz 35+5

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 12:40

BAM - we would give him the name Alexander but just call him Alex. We have a Tom who is really Thomas.

for boys so far I like Alfie and Max

Oh Alfie is cool - I like old fashioned names, as you can see!

We have a Grace!!! Love Lily too but doesnt work with our surnames

Lottie- agree its lovely - but you will then get asked " Is is Charlotte?" !!!!!

Alannah - friends daughter is this and constantly has to correct mispellings. Vey pretty though ( name and child!!)

Dh thinks we will " just know" when baby is born. But we didnt last time.......

Busyalexsmummy · 20/10/2005 12:46

eeek, dont say that, i was hoping it'll be born and we'll just know what to call it

Busyalexsmummy · 20/10/2005 12:47

cads-sorry, just remembered your LO is 1 day older than alex yes?

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 12:48

we only decided on the last day we HAD to register the name!!!! Oh what bad parents! Hope you are more decisive.......

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 12:51

Forgot to say - love the kissing your bump bit....

Ds is 17 months now and all he does is poke his finger in my belly button and squeal " OH LOOK!!!". When I tell him there is a baby in there, he looks at me like I'm mad ............

Busyalexsmummy · 20/10/2005 12:54

aww bless!
6 weeks without a name!! tutut! what did you call him until then?

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 12:59

No thank goodness, its only 14 days where we live. He was Matthew at first, then Max, then we settled on Tom.But we were just keeping our options open til the end.........

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 13:00

NOW YOU SEE what a worrier i am !!!!!

karmamother · 20/10/2005 14:52

Afternoon!
I'm feeling especially chirpy today because Im no longer in the breech club. It seems to be the time for it as I noticed some of you also had babes that turned yesterday. I think it happened last evening as I was assembling the pushchair. I became aware that my spd was suddenly very painful which had me thinking she might have turned. I now walk like John Wayne, along with the rest of you!

At the MW this morning she said my Hb was 14! Can you believe it? Don't think I'll bother with that Floradix now, Chacha. KristinaM haven't attempted the link thing yet but I shall have a try later. I did a bit of research ages ago about 3 wheelers & decided that unless you were the kind of parent that regularly took their infant up mountains, they were a bit gimmicky. The front wheel does make it a bit bulky when collapsed but now that I've got a bigger car the boot space is adequate. It does weigh a bloody ton, however. Good exercise, nevertheless.

Cads congrats for the home birth! What a relief that you'll get the birth you want.

Hang on in there, Enthusia. Try & relax & let your body go with the flow. Alernatively...plan a trip out or book a table at a restaurant. Bubs will definately scupper your plans. That happened to me last time. All my friends had a lovely meal wondering if I was having my baby by the time they had dessert. Sadly, not for another 24 hours!

Well, time for my afternoon nap. Catch you later.

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 15:24

Karma - I HATE you!!!! Does that mean I am the only one left whose stubborn baby is refusing to turn???? Just like his father.....

Maybe i shoudl have bought & assembled a pushchair rather than ikea bookcases.....

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 15:24

PS well done on the Hb

babyonboard · 20/10/2005 15:51
