I went to Uni in Derby, and I love that endearment dearly. Much better than the love or hun you get up here.

CurlyCasper · 22/02/2011 11:33

gaga i'm intrigued about which spa town. My OH is from one in that sort of area - they get Midlands news but could be classed as south west.

Glad to hear of lovely lyra

i am lurking from m6. Going all the way to the top end and beyond....

LadyGoneGaga · 22/02/2011 11:36

I'm from further North in Derbyshire. But lived in Derby for a year when I was having MiniG - he was born in Derby City hospital. I do miss access to hills! People don't so much use terms of endearment round here but not too far from Birmingham and the "Bab" they use is quite sweet!

LadyGoneGaga · 22/02/2011 11:46

Sounds like your OH is from the "Gateway to the Cotswolds" CC? Know it well, have lot of friends there but not my town although the architecture is v similar. We have a Royal moniker and about 40 miles North East of there. Next door to a town with a famous Castle. In Warwickshire. I sound like the bloody Sunday Times now! Write in for your chance to win a trip to Butlins.

CurlyCasper · 22/02/2011 11:51

ha! That was my other guess. More ESH midlanders, very useful to know...

CurlyCasper · 22/02/2011 11:53

and yes, he is, BTW.

HighPriestessBoo · 22/02/2011 12:11

I am a midlander too!

Scorps I just noticed that compliment you gave me on my phrase coining abilities. Made me feel all appreciated.

LadyGoneGaga · 22/02/2011 12:13

Where are you CC?

Scorpette · 22/02/2011 12:18

GOOD LUCK BITEY! You can do it, put your back in to it :)

Fanks for the nice words, PESHlets. In truth, I'm not super-proper-depressed, just when my head pain is bad, I get v down as it also fatigues me and I start thinking stoopid things like 'what if I have a brain haemorrhage during labour?' and 'how will I give birth if I feel this ill on the day?' and everything - like getting dressed! - feels overwhelming Blush I am prone to being a panicky ole twat (although I hide it well here, ahem).

Lozza, I've started taking an Alpha Male approach to my enorma-bump: 'Check out the size of MY BELLY! Fackin' twin-havers are jealous of this bad boy!', like I've got a massive cock car or summat Grin It's the only way to go. I've even bought a tight-ish dress so I can properly terrifyingly hove into view!

Nowt wrong wi' a Derbyshire Lass Grin I were born in t'same place as Gaga , although lived further north in the county than that. The hospital of that 'fine' town had the worst rate of infant mortality in the country during the 70s, so it's a badge of honour that we survived! Bizarrely, I've always found that everyone from the rest of the county dislikes Derb-eh; p'raps cos it's a bit Sarf for our liking? My family has always said 'duck' a lot. And 'yoth' (youth), which is pure class. Amusingly, I have a much more 'regional' accent than my brother who was only little when we moved somewhere with a less pronounced local accent (also posher area).

HighPriestessBoo · 22/02/2011 12:20

Sorry for tiny post btw am sneaking on for seconds at a time at work...

Scorpette · 22/02/2011 12:24

PS No probs, Boo 'Tis all true!

PPS I consider mesen a Northerner, innit (just scraping in by dent of geography of village I grew up in). I get wound up when people think you're a Midlander when you're from Derbyshire, cos the top part of it leads into Manchester and lots of it is higher up than Sheffield, say, both of which are Northern.

I have a mini bee in my bonnet about it, can you tell? Grin Mind you, I've lived in the Midlands-proper most of my life

rocketleaf · 22/02/2011 12:28

I have the most screwed up accent there is, bit of Brummie (but not proper black country) bit of posh/sarf from living in london, and a bit of Scouse. and the the odd bit of Manc from working there for all those years. TB thinks it combines to make me sound a bit Welsh :o personally I like to think it makes me sound 'unique'

rocketleaf · 22/02/2011 12:31

Nowt wrong with being a Midlander score although I used to get a tit on when my southern mates referred to it as up north and my northern mates referred to it as down south. Like we are not allowed our own identity.

Scorpette · 22/02/2011 12:35

There's nowt wrong with being a Midlander, Rocket, I concur. I was just railing against people who think all of Derbyshire is Midlands-based, whereas a big part of it isn't. It's my pedantry more than anything!

CurlyCasper · 22/02/2011 12:57

i'm a Scot living in shtopshire. Currenly in the Lake Districy, about to hit the pub for lunch.

Casserole · 22/02/2011 13:03

Medee if they do let you take a pool, give me a shout :) And just also to say on the TENS front, if you do try it beforehand and don't get on with it, don't think that means it won't be any use in actual labour. I hired a TENS, tried it beforehand and hated the sensation of it but in labour it felt completely different and was really helpful, at least in the earlier stages.

After a morning of intensive flirting with consultants and buttering up midwives I haz a date for my elcs! 31st March Grin

Good luck bitey - hope it all goes well.

Medee · 22/02/2011 13:46

Thanks Bitey, I plan to try that tonight and hope for the best. Thanks too, rocket, shall try that if plugging it in doesn?t work. It is 5 years old now though, so maybe just at the end of its days (which I hastened!)

thanks cass, and ooh to the elcs date!

Medee · 22/02/2011 14:33

Pool confusion continues; someone on the local NCT board was told by the consultant MW that the first birth has taken place in the new pool. I need to stop obsessing!

Ivegotmrbitey · 22/02/2011 15:02

Aaaaaaaaaaaagh bollocky arse biscuits! Have been to interview, made an interesting first impression by throwing my glass of water across the table and a poor second impression by not being able to clean it up using the non absorbent tissues they gave me. Rest of interview took place over a small table lake! They will let me know later today, not holding out much hope!

Casserole · 22/02/2011 15:06

It's not obsessing Med , not at all. It's those sorts of things that can either make you feel more in control or out of it; and at this late stage you need to be able to plan, and visualise. Totally understandable.

LadyGoneGaga · 22/02/2011 15:19

wow - only a month Cass...pretty much! Can't believe it Grin. Really excited for you! Feel a bit sad for me as I should have been next person after you but t'wasn't to be. Oh well, feel very blessed to have the one I'm carrying anyway.

Can you call the labour ward to check, Med - I agree with Cass - part of the preparation process is being able to visualise the birth and how you will deal with it all and it's hard to do that without being able to pin details down.

agree with you Score - our birthtown is more North facing than Midlands being only 10 miles from Sheffield. Shock about Scarsdale - I didn't know that!

Scorpette · 22/02/2011 15:19

Echo what Cass says, Medee. The slightest thing feeling up in the air is Not Helpful at this stage. Still, at least you know the pool is available, yay!

Good news about the elcs date, Cass :)

Bitey, at least they won't forget you in a hurry Grin Things like that can and do happen and if you're a strong candidate, it shouldn't matter.

PerfectDromedary · 22/02/2011 15:28

Brilliant news on elcs date, Cass! hurrah!

LadyGoneGaga · 22/02/2011 15:34

When will they let you know, Bitey? Was it internal candidates only or any extrernals to worry about? I'm sure they won't be bothered about the water thing. Probably distracted them from your massive bump - good tactics! Grin

Scorpette · 22/02/2011 15:36

How are you feeling, Drom? Scared? Excited? Every emotion humanly possible? Not long now!
