Right, I am back home, my wee man is fed (for the next 10 mins at least), I have internet access, so you're about to be bombarded with my birth story. Me, Me, Me!
Had my consultant's appt last Weds where we decided I would be induced on Friday. Had another very quick sweep but I was uncomfortable all day - no BHs or contractions, just very uncomfy. Then DH cooked me up a lush pasta supper, which I ate while bouncing on my birthing ball because I was too uncomfy to sit on anything solid.
Then as pains were getting worse I started to write them down and realised they were already 45 seconds long and 3 mins apart - cue slight panic, phoned labour ward (well, DH did, but when I heard him saying "no, no, it's not a high-risk pregnancy" I grabbed the phone and told them the truth!! They said come in straight away, I phoned a friend and my mum who both came bombing over breaking a few speed limits.
Got to triage not long before 10 but they barely had time to examine me between contractions but said I was 5cm dilated and wheeled me straight down to labour ward. bounced a bit on ball but it wasn't doing it for me so climbed on to the bed and crouched. Contractions were bad but bearable with gas and air and a good bit of knuckle crunching of my poor DH, and started to push just after midnight - first real push squeezed out what I had hoped was a baby, but there was an almighty pop and my waters broke with conviction - everyone including me on the bed was paddling about in them - very comedy splosh sound that DH and I remember very vividly!!
change of sheets later and I started to push this mahoosive bugger out of me - crowned for what seemed like 3 days, and a mere 45 mins later, out he popped - cord round the neck but unwrapped quickly, and then delivered the also mahoosive placenta (ick!). He fed straight away (a pattern for life I fear!! :o) while they stitched me up and hand delivered (??!) some ruptured membrane (double ick).
Piles the size of the Himalayas and a 2nd degree tear - not too bad for 12lbs 3oz of flesh.
But soooooooo worth it - he's just gorgeous and his sisters are very enamoured with him, in short bursts anyway!! :o
Right, he's awake again (guess what - he's hungry again!!) so will be a good mummy and feed him.
I've uploaded a few pics of the wee man - check out the cheeks!! :o :o
