Ocarina · 02/02/2011 13:23

Hmmmm. Not sure I want to give away exact due date cos am ever paranoid Hmm. Late August will do.

So: Ocarina, there's a what in there?! due late August

Unless anyone else is feeling more inspired on my behalf.

Medee · 02/02/2011 13:43

Great scan news!

That?s how I feel drom, so relieved to know you can still feel that way after a good class. The plastic dolls aren?t really much use for practicing. Confession: I didn?t realise how much nipple and breast actually went into the baby?s mouth.

owlbooty · 02/02/2011 13:45

Hoorah for scan Occy ! I didn't get an emotional rush either, just a sort of 'thank fuck it's actually in there' and 'hang on, surely that's not really my innards?' sort of feeling Grin

The 12 week one was indeed a lot more 'real' because we could see little fingerbones and toes and vertebrae. I've got the 20 week one on 14th March :)

I don't plan on telling people at work until after the 16 week MW appt. Which is, suddenly, the week after next. Christ on a bike!

Hugs for Bitey x Hope the antenatal appt goes to plan.

owlbooty · 02/02/2011 13:47

Oh; and for GG :

Owlbooty, can't stop belching, due 7th August

laurielou · 02/02/2011 14:00

Occy lovely scan news!

Scorps that does indeed sound like a random phone call Confused

Scorpette · 02/02/2011 14:12

I know, Loz! She kept asking me repeatedly if I was SURE I didn't live in that town. I mean, no-one's baby brain is that bad, surely! And I think I might also notice if I was working full-time or not Hmm

Ivegotmrbitey · 02/02/2011 14:24

Thanks kindly PESH for sympahetic thoughts, just worked out the funeral will be midnight tonight my time so am unlikley to still be awake. Think some quite time for contemplation is a good idea though occy wil just do it a bit earlier.

So the ante-natal clinic.... Can I start by saying I am a firm beliver in the NHS and am even arguing with the FDH that Aneurin is a good name for a boy.

Got there to find no queing system and no receptionist who could understand why I was there. Eventually just went a knocked on the MW door and explained. Then I sat and waited for half an hour. I flagged down a HCA and explained why I was there and also that I was dying for a wee so if they were likely to need a sample could I have a bottle. She got me a bottle and showed me to a toilet only for me to have the door shut in my face by the woman behind me (she reached over me) and told in a very cross voice that it was for staff only. I asked where the scum of the earth patient toilet is but she had flounced. She didn't even use the toilet! So I went and found the patient toilet to find seat and floor covered in bright red blood. Went out and found another toilet in a different secyion of hospital. Returned triumphant to clinic with my bottle of wee and nobody else's blood on my shoes. Got weighed and measured by a HCA who showed me my BMI has gone from 23 to 27 and am now in over weight category. No further explanation. Assumed maybe midwife would go through this with me. Midwife came and saw me in the corridor and took my notes away. When she came back I asked her what she wanted me to with my wee and she took that away. I asked about my blood tests and she said oh just go to the front desk for those, see you next week. Went to fron desk where the admin staff stuck my blood results in my notes. I asked if they were ok and she said the MW would explain at the twenty week scan and I sholdn't be asking for them this early. So now I have my blood results (including all the stds and antibody tests and am thinking about asking Dr google what they mean!

Got to say the complete lack of communication, the fear that tests aren't done unless you remind people (and how do I know what tests I should be having) and filthiness have left me feel most unconfident about the hospital!

Ivegotmrbitey · 02/02/2011 14:25

Sorry occy for total self absorbtion! Lovely good scan news Smile

Scorpette · 02/02/2011 14:42

Bitey - Shock Angry You've been treated very shoddily there. I would complain, if I were you. I had to ring my MW about my tests (I knew I didn't have any STDs), but she happily gave me the results (think I was @ 16 wks). Saying you don't need to know until 20 wks is bollocks - what if you actually had something wrong; they would need to start treating you or at least advising you ASAP. As for the wee, will be a test for protein in your urine, like they always have to test for.

The rudeness, the filth, the lack of reasonably near facilities (you would think that there'd be toilets for patients in an ante-natal unit, FFS!), the lack of communication... all of it decidedly Not Good Enough.

You can ring your MW and talk to her and ask her about results, etc., any time. And I would defo have a word with her about how crap the unit was. The one I go to is always super-busy, like all of them are, but everyone is always polite, helpful, caring and amenable. Is there any way you can change hossies?

Their crap is the last thing you need today, poor thing. Come and sit on my knee for a cuddle PS Fuck the BMI. It'd be worrying if it didn't go up when you're pg!

owlbooty · 02/02/2011 14:49

Fuck's sake, Bitey - time for a letter of complaint I think. And perhaps a different hospital for the laying if possible?

Your BMI is absolutely utter bollocks right now anyway as you are, surprisingly, up the duff. Of course your weight is going to go up in relation to your height.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I'm still cross that my MW took bloods at 11 weeks and didn't tell me that it was tests for Hep B, HIV etc i.e. major things that should have come with an explanation first. I've been a blood donor for years so it's not that I am concerned I might have one of these things but the method in which this was done does not fit with how I know consent is supposed to work and I shall tell the MW this when I see her. That'll go down well Grin

I loved working for the NHS but it was shit like this that made me leave.

LadyGoneGaga · 02/02/2011 15:04

Am a bit speechless, Bitey. Do you have a choice of hospitals in your area? I know you're a bit remote but might even be worth the extra travelling distance to go somewhere that actually knows what the fuck they are doing?

MTF, BB - do you want to go on t'list yet?

Milano my love - you have no excuse - due date and blurb if you please.

Who have I forgotten?

BarbiesBeaver · 02/02/2011 15:07

Bitey that is indeed rubbish. I mean this is all fairly standard stuff isn't it, surely they go through this with each and every pregnant person? I'm sorry about your grandad, I hope you can out aside some time to remember him by today.

Octapussy wahoo for good scans! Glad everything is looking healthy and correct! I've got my first one in three weeks. You get a 7 week one when you are under a fertility clinic.

For the list: BarbiesBeaver -Forever the Dildocam Slut, due Early October.

Ivegotmrbitey · 02/02/2011 15:21

Good news! Have googled all my blood results and don't have any illnesses to worry about! Did it quite light heartedly but still had a moment of panic when couldn't understand the hiv one. Can be flip again now with the relief!

I haven't got any choice about the hospital, the unit covers a massive geographical area and I would be looking at a 50 mile journey to another one. There is a hospital sort of maternity unit and the MW led one so I'll have a good nose when I go on the tour. I think I will have to take some flash wipes in my hospital bag! I think I would have been OK with the chaos but the blood really upset me. Am going to ring the trust now to complain.

Ocarina · 02/02/2011 15:24

Booty that's utterly ridiculous that they didn't get consent properly for the bloods. I had to tick a load of boxes on a form to say what I wanted checked (Hep B etc - I figure they might as well if they want to although if I've got any of them I really want to know where from!), and specifically tick another box to say I was opting out of Down Syndrome screening (might've had to sign something for that one too). Mind you, apparently the blood test for DS also gives risk factors for other, rarer things but they don't tell you about those at all.

Bitey get complaining, that was ridiculous treatment. If you want advice on writing stroppy letters I seem to remember Scorps is an expert!

Scorpette · 02/02/2011 15:27

I think my bit in the List should now read:

Scorpette, thinking of displaying her enorma-bump at freak shows, due 18th May.

BB, you laaaaaaahv a bit of the ole dildocam, don't you? Stop pestering Ann Summers to bring out a 3-speed version Grin

Orchid12 · 02/02/2011 15:38

Occywoccy great news on the scan Smile

Bootylicious sounds like a duff experience! I have only been weighed once and can remember from last time that no-one was in the least bit bothered about my weight after that intial weigh in. I used to ask if they were going to weigh me at each appt, and was told as long as the baby is ok, they couldn't careless what I weighed. Seems like they do different things at different places. I'm sorry you were left with a bad taste in your mouth with it all, but rest assured your weight gain I'm sure is fine and they should not be interested in your BMI at this point in time! Bad news on the blood in the toilet .

owlbooty · 02/02/2011 15:41

Bitey (and indeed anyone else planning on laying in hospital) - yeah, I'd take flash wipes. And food. And your own pillow, the hospital ones sound really waterproof and crinkly.

BB hoorah for the 7 week dildocam! I think, like commissioning Bitey to do all my vomming, I may have commissioned you to do all my dildocam scans as I have NEVER HAD ONE. I know. It's tragic.

Ivegotmrbitey · 02/02/2011 15:53

Have fired off a stinking email to the trust and am now all of a cower at the thought of having to go back next week for the triple test!

owly I have ordered one of these each for myself and the baybee. Mine will have to be the open gusset type not pictured Grin

Happy due day clucks

laurielou · 02/02/2011 15:54

Bitey Angry. Bloody hell! (no pun intended). Just bloody hell. That is poor.

BB I also had an early dildocam scan courtesy of fertility clinic. I couldn't believe how clear it was at such an early stage. It was a really positive experience after all the strife to get that far.

BarbiesBeaver · 02/02/2011 15:54

Booty the nicest thing I can say about it is that at least I have very little shame anymore wrt to exposing my undercarriage to all and sundry. Oh and seeing the inside of your womble and ovaries is quite cool, but it's an experience you can live without believe me.

Muser · 02/02/2011 16:13

Dildocam is ace.

Bitey what an awful experience. Glad you complained.

Midwife was running late today, which was fine as I have the day off so just sat about and read my book and chilled. All is good, filled in my referral form for the midwife unit and should get a call from them soon. I look like I meet all the criteria.

Midwife has declared my baby very active, think Bob was squirming about while she tried to do heartbeat. Fast heartbeat too, zoom zoom. No further engaged than before, and I thought maybe there had been some wriggling down.

The delay meant I was starving when I got out so instead of going straight home I walked to the local shopping centre for lunch. And then I accidentally bought another baby outfit in TK Maxx (it's great for baby stuff) and on the hunt for a new dressing gown accidentally bought another outfit in BHS. I am so weak willed!

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 02/02/2011 16:15

bitey I'm not sure where you are, but a friend of mine gave birth in Norn Iron and was subjected to blood & grunge. She wishes to god she'd had a home birth as all she wanted to do was grab her son and run. You could always consider a homebirth if you don't trust the cleanliness of the trust. Also, I've read on mn of a woman being chastised at her 36 week check and FIRST TIME weigh-in being told she was a big Fat Fatty McFatterson.

Muser · 02/02/2011 16:21

I haven't been weighed since I booked in and all they said was my higher BMI meant I'd have to have the diabetes test. I think I'd be seriously considering a homebirth in that situation.

On FF/BF issue. I think the flexible approach is good. One thing to consider is the hormones when you give birth might make you want to give BFing a go, even if you weren't a fan before. Best to just be open minded and go with it. What I hate is women feeling they've failed, or they're being judged, or made to feel ashamed of the situation they're in. Drives me crazy.

I also think latch won't make much sense until there's a real baby there. But I'm glad I know how much breast should be in the mouth, so at least I won't think "right, milk comes out of nipples, here, have a nipple".

Medee/Drom did your class do the crawling reflex? I so want to try that, it was amazing. Babies have a reflex in the first week or two to crawl up your tum, locate boob, latch on, and feed. Marvellous little creatures.

OP posts:
Ivegotmrbitey · 02/02/2011 16:27

ski I am afraid to give birth for the first time without a Dr nearish after the truly awful experiences of my mother and sister (not the same hospital btw). I won't go into it here becasue I don't think anyone needs to hear it! Also I have an immediate family history of a serious birth defect and I live too far away from a hopsital for urgent help for the baybee. I should know about this in advance if I get an extra scan at 32 weeks as it doesn't get picked up at twenty weeks, so perhaps I will reconsider a HB then. (Although my house is pretty stinky also as am a slattern.)

I can't believe that poor woman was fatisised at 36 weeks! Saying that, I noticed on one of the OBEM threads on here that one of the women on last week's show was being laughed at for wanting a burger and a few posters suggested a gastric band instead!

muser I accidentally bought new boots at the weekend. I tripped and fell in Schuh and my credit card fell out of my bag!
