MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

Hi everyone,

Looking on with interest at talk of big pants and details of over/under bump trousers etc. So far I've stuck with my one pair of H&M jeans (over bump) but it's already getting a little tight (I never thought I'd see a VPL style line under tops when I first bought them [blush)and so considering under bump next time.

Thought I'd ask - is everyone using Kid Start for eBay purchases, etc? It's a tiny amount each time but every penny counts and I now have a whopping £8.93 Hmm.

I've been feeling more energetic this week and had a lovely time with friends who have hot water and heating = BLISS. Plumber over after lunch so fingers crossed I can finally have a bath in my own house this arvo! Been getting lower back stiffness - anyone any idea if this is something to worry about? It feels as though my hip might pop out sometimes and I freeze up when I stand. Also got a sharp pain under my bra wire at the front if I sit too long. Find myself doing Lion King style stretches to crack spine out. Yoga seems to help. Maybe this is from huddling over my oil heater...

Confuddled I've joined on FB and about to PM you :)

Fab123 · 01/03/2011 11:46

Inbetweener don't fret - my friend is only a week behind me and she has no bump AT ALL(still in pre-preg clothes) and hasn't felt a sausage. Everyone is different.

hefner · 01/03/2011 12:29

Inbetweener I'm not feeling much either. I'm 20+2 and I sometimes notice a slight popping/tapping feeling, maybe a couple of times a day, but nothing that really feels like a definite movement yet.

nicolamumof3 · 01/03/2011 12:29

Will read back when home it's taken me 24hrs for it to sink in!!! Looks like no.4 is going to be a girly one!!! Very shocked indeed

LadyGoneGaga · 01/03/2011 12:50

Inbetweener - could you have an anterior placenta this time round? Will stop you feeling as much in the early days. I am feeling stuff but it's still really quite subtle most of the time (am 19+2). And then of course I won't feel anything for ages and start to worry too. Hmm.

Nicola a girl! How exciting! You will have an ally in the house. And she'll be spoiled rotten/doted on by her brothers (unless they are torturing her with spiders etc)

Fab I've had a bit of back pain too. Think is from hoicking a toddler about as well. I went to my first pregnancy yoga class last night and it really helped loosen everything up. We were working on posture and it was really helpful. Cat position was the thing that seemed most helpful to me. But also getting us to focus on being symmetrical etc

confuddledDOTcom · 01/03/2011 13:20

inbetweener, you're probably worrying about nothing but if it would help ring the hospital and see if they'll scan you or your CMW and ask for a Doppler. They're used to women stressing about nothing so they won't think badly of you and it's better to be safe. Have you had your 20 week scan yet?

Fab, you're in!

Has anyone applied in their husbands name and from Leeds?

Aww Nicola, it'll be brill! You'll have one on your girly pink side Wink

Eglu · 01/03/2011 13:27

Wow Nicola, I know how you are feeling. Did you manage to stay on the bed? It took me about a week for it to sink in. Are you feeling that a boy would have been easier fo family dynamics. That was my first thought.

nicolamumof3 · 01/03/2011 13:31

i felt totally numb! I was really expecting a boy. Just feel weird. DH Cried, admitted afterwards that he has always wanted a girl.

Im just so boy orientated it feels totally strange.

my placenta low lying so need to go back at 34w for another scan anyway see if its moved up hoping so!

inbetweener · 01/03/2011 15:27

Firstly wow nicola congrats at your girl !!! Aww bless your DH.
I have 2 girls and I think my DH is secretly hoping this one is a boy.

No to whoever asked I havent had my 20 week scan yet. Havent got it till im 22 + 4 so im SOOOO impatient.
I did have an internal scan at 16 weeks cos I have had some slight bleeding and they said my placenta was low lying. is that the same thing ??

LadyGoneGaga · 01/03/2011 15:32

Anterior just means that it is on the front wall so you feel less movements, I had this first pregnany. I think low lying could refer to either anterior or posterior. Interestingly at 12 weeks can they said mine was on the side Hmm. So will be interesting to see where it has moved to.

Hopefully yours will move up anyway, Inbetweener - mine was low in first pregnancy but had moved up nicely by 20 weeks.

JimmyChoo17 · 01/03/2011 19:35

Inbetweener - I felt a fair few prods at week 16 but less since (i think my recent weight gain has dulled it somewhat) Its not frequent when I do feel it tho..the evening and sometimes during the day. Felt the most daytime movements today (20W3Days) so am hoping its starting to increase!

Congrats on all the gender discoveries ladies!!

Is there many on here not finding out? Im still clueless but liking not knowing still :)

highheelsandequations · 01/03/2011 19:49

nicola congrats on the girl, have you recovered from the shock yet?

inbetweener I'm sure it's nothing to worry about with the lack of movement and there's some explanation, but echo what others have said, ring the midwives if you're at all worried. It's what they're there for.

Jimmychoo we didn't find out. Neither of us wanted to know really and I'm liking having the excitement of looking forward to getting a surprise :)

I'm getting bigger by the day and loving it, finding pilates is getting really difficult now though but determined to try and keep as active as possible for as long as I can. It means I can quite happily tuck into this chocolate cheesecake and not feel guilty as I need extra calories because of the exercise :o

MissLolita · 01/03/2011 20:28

Inbetweener I?m 21+6 and still not feeling anything. Sometime I can almost convince myself that I felt something but then I doubt it....I have anterior placenta and apparently that is to blame. I?ve even taken to prodding myself hard and them holding my breath (not entirely sure why I think this will help) but still nothing. Then of course I feel bad as I think I?ve probably scared the baby and it normally hurts Smile
Nicola, congratulations!! How lovely to have a girl! I know you would have been happy wither way but it?s still lovely to hear Grin
Righty ho, off to do some ironing....

buttonmoon78 · 01/03/2011 20:47

Wow - congrats Nicola! That's a lot to take in!

JimmyChoo17 · 01/03/2011 20:47

highheelsandequations its exciting not knowing :)

I have been really small pregnancy wise and able to hide it but have suddenly bumped out...as have my boobs!

Is everyone out of underwired bras? Im still wearing them but am not uncomfortable (yet!) I tried a non worried one and I look awful!! Ok I know its not about vanity but Im already paranoid and uncomfortable at how I look at the moment (Especailly as not exactly glowing) but why do they make you look oh so frumpy and unsupported??? Ive been measured and gone from a 32DD to a 38 DD...I thought the letter bit would have changed but am not sure if my bra-assistant was the best??!

Fraochsmum · 01/03/2011 20:49

Evening all!
Lovely news nicola, albeit a huge shock! I have my scan tomorrow but don't want to know the flavour, DH is desperate though. It really makes no difference to me and I would be totally happy with either.

Cara I got refered by my midwife for physio, but they also have self-referal forms outside their office so perhaps yours do too? Luckily I live in a v small town (approx 6,500 ppl) so I only waited 8 days and have seen her twice a week since. Hope you get your appointment soon x

Gosh seems like there's quite a lot getting additional scans for various reasons. Where it would be lovely to see monkey more often, I am so hoping that I won't have to. I'm so much more nervous this time round Sad

inbetweener I am hardly feeling anything either (and again, nervous about it) and will be interesting to see what is going on tomorrow.
I got a starter pack of re-useable nappies from the GRAB Trust for £10 and would definitely second the suggestion of going to the Council for information. Incidentally, they might also be able to help you out after baby is here - we have a home safety officer in our area who gives out fire guards, stair gates, cupboard locks, socket covers etc.

What is Kid Start Fab? I can't believe you're still having heating problems btw!!

I took my 'maternity' box of clothes down from the loft at the weekend, but am actually still able to get into my normal Next jeans comfortably - without a belt tho Smile I hope my bump will suddenly look like a proper big preggy belly soon!

Right I'm off to try and get a couple of pics on FB before Silks - still not convinced, but will see what it's like tonight x

Fab123 · 01/03/2011 21:13

Fraochsmum Kid Start is quite handy actually, especially if you feel a little guilty about buying stuff as I do!Blush You can register more than one kid and send the link to who ever you like and you basically just open websites through the Kid Start one to get savings. I booked a hotel via Lastminute on it for example but actually most high street shops are on it. Worth a look: www.kidstart.co.uk

My heating/hot water is driving me mad tbh. I was hoping it would stagger on until next winter, but alas :( I've been away for a few days which has been lovely but reminded me how crap it feels at home just limited to hugging my oil heater.

Jimmychoo my bra size has gone from 32D to 36/38D but I stopped wearing underwired early on - mainly because with my normal bras being tight it just wasn't comfy. Looking at what we're left with (even the nicer ones on HotMilk) does make me wonder about just getting one or two underwired for special occasions Wink. But then, I may grow next week, so no point spending £20... Wow, I really am stingy! Blush

I've found myself in the rather embarrassing situ of asking my dad if he will come on holiday with me in April Sad. Friends mainly have partners or want to be able to booze it up. I haven't done this since I was 16 and still remember having to hide my belly button piercing (long since gone) Grin

JimmyChoo17 · 01/03/2011 21:41

Fab123 Took my belly button peircing out at 14 weeks tried it again today...amazed to see it still slides in...mind you...have also been hiding that since I was 14...! I bought one from La Senza yesterday its more of a fabric one, very soft and only £10 so I thought for the time being it will do. They do a nude and white version but had none left so have had to opt for black as needed to purchase something yesterday that I didnt want to break the bank with - at this rate I'll be getting hammocks! I can fit my head in this one!

buttonmoon78 · 02/03/2011 06:13

Jimmy? I'm wondering what you are like not pg? All this talk of bras on heads, with no alcohol and on a school night? ^^

How are you feeling now Nic? I must admit, when we decided to go for 4 I was pleased I already had a mixture as the whole band of 'oh but you're only having #4 to get a boy/girl' doubters wouldn't be able to say that! People can be so negative and they always 'know what they know' ie no matter what you say they'll know you were always desperate for a girl or (in my case) desperate for another boy to even up the numbers. Hmm

Your dh sounds lovely though. Your little madam's going to be the most spoiled (in a good way!) baby ever!

We're currently 'arguing' over the sex. I'm still convinced it's a girl but dh is equally as convinced it's a boy. TBH, I think he is desperate for another boy to even up the numbers... Blush

Badgerwife · 02/03/2011 08:32

JimmyChoo I'm still wearing underwired bra (at 19+5), but I'm planning to go to Mothercare on Saturday to get measured and get a couple of sleep bras as well, as I'm getting quite uncomfortable.

I was so not prepared for the utter Shock when I started lactating last saturday, that's got to be the weirdest thing of the whole pregnancy so far for me! [newbie alert]

Fab123 · 02/03/2011 15:41

Haha Jimmy I felt like that when I looked at the 36D - they'd be great for a home made version of The Fly Grin

Went for my 20 week scan today and all is well. She hasn't grown any extra bits (thankfully or I may have turned it gay with all the dresses I bought already Wink) and seems to have quite long legs! Her FM is 35.3mm, but thankfully her head is bang on average size. Made my eyes water though when they measured that beauty.

Badger lactating sounds...interesting. I've not had much boob pain/action since the first trimester and am secretly hoping for a new letter before it's my time to drop. Have you tried disposable breast pads or has it stopped now? I'm a newbie too so it would be quite a shock to me also!

LadyGoneGaga · 02/03/2011 15:55

Just to reassure any newbies. I didn't really lactate until after the birth. Well, I could squeeze a few drops out if I tried later on but that was baout it. So don't be concerned if you don't - I still had lots of lovely milk when needed. As only stopped breastfeeding about a month ago I'm quite proud to NOT see any milk when I squeeze now. The "girls" are having a rest!

Good news on scan, Fab! Mine is on Friday - bit nervous about it. Especially as I fell down the stairs (on my arse thankfully) last night. D'oh. Used doppler and the heart is ticking away so hopefully fine but really shook me up, was proper sobbing in a heap at the bottom of the stairs Sad

Fab123 · 02/03/2011 16:23

Ouch LadyGGG hope you're bottom isn't too bruised? I've fallen on my tummy (about 2 weeks ago) when my shoe slipped off on a step into my kitchen. Scared me silly too so I can understand your worry. Only thing I can say is that today with the scan she was pretty much wedged in tight, looked like she was in a memory foam pillow, so if you think about it like that, she's in the best kind of car seat for any impact. Here, have a virtual vino Wine x

buttonmoon78 · 02/03/2011 16:27

LadyGG I did that with dd2. She was fine. I was a mess!

I've never had any lactation issues prior to birth but this time there's a fair amount of crusty (eww) stuff in my bra by the end of the day. I'm wondering if this means I'll end up leaking before the birth this time!

Fab if that measurement made your eyes water now, imagine what will happen if you have a scan later for growth or position! Do remember though that they are notoriously wrong. At 36 wks ds was predicted as 7.5lbs with 4 wks to go. When he was induced at 38wks he was about 7lb born Hmm. I don't know exactly as the student midwife was a tit but that's a whole other story...

buttonmoon78 · 02/03/2011 16:28

O o o! I've just seen the St David's emoticon! St Davids Yay! Recognition for being Welsh!
