MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nicolamumof3 · 27/02/2011 08:44

morning all scan day tomorrow!

im not telling anyone what we are having as i fully expect negative comments whatever it is and can't be doing with that! lol. Will tell my mum and thats it. Everyone else can wait. We've just about decided on boys name i think. My shopping will commence after scan and after our holiday has been paid for!!

Fraochsmum · 27/02/2011 09:59

Good luck with the scan nicola! Mine is on Wednesday and I'm still v nervous but excited at the same time. I had a read through the anomoly scan leaflet and they said they they were only 95% accurate with telling the flavour, I'm pretty sure we won't ask tho. Thank you so much for your posts re drinking before the scan. Everyone seems to have a different opinion, it wasn't mentioned in the leaflet and I dropped something in at the mat unit yesterday and they said it wasn't necessary. I think I'll just make sure I drink some time before it - but not too much!

Eeeuughhh my disgusting DD just ate a slater!!! I kinda guessed she would do horrible things, but slaters are so totally minging - just as well she had her 13mnth immunisations this week Wink

Scarthy I'm interested in what you said about being scanned more because your last baby was small, my DD was 6lb2oz (40+1) and no-one (apart from v rude people) mentioned her size as being an issue. Did you say yours was 6lb11oz?

twit it must be so frustrating, and I would say any of the above would suffice - depending on who asks you of course. It is quite strange how some people feel they are able to make extremely personal comments just because you are pg Angry

Happy weekend all x

LadyGoneGaga · 27/02/2011 10:31

What's a slater, Fraochsmum?

Good lucks with scans this week everyone. Mine on Friday - excited and nervous. But little one is bouncing around in there which is nicely reassuring!

One more week of work then off to Centre Parcs with all DP's family - looking forward to it. And going to book the Mum to be pampering session!

Right, need to get on and get ready so can take DS out. Have done tons of ironing this morning but still not dressed Blush. Starting to feel like I am getting some energy back at long last and the house looks less like a war zone/cesspit and more like a home Smile

JimmyChoo17 · 27/02/2011 13:58

Mmm yes what is a slater? Is it a loud mouthed leopard print wearing cockney off eastenders? Grin

Buttonmoon what a fab idea!! I have loads of good sheets with only small worn areas!

Does everyones bump have a pattern already? Sleeping I mean....I felt mine more over weeks 17 to 18 but 19 and 20 not so much...although I have to say my padding seems to have increased ho hum...so feel bubs squirming more than elbows and kicks like I did before. I only really feel at work when doing something really boring or just before I go to sleep. Have to admit for reaching for Doppler a couple of time since my scan past week just in case something happened (do u ever really lose this worry during pregnancy?)

Bought a neutral bedding set today, changing mat and a few basic clothing items. As we are not finding out the sex I'm wondering what I can realistacally get away with not buying until we know the sex? Can any of you who already have kids help on that? I obviously won't want to be shopping once baby is born but The in laws have already said they will do any baby shopping we need.

What a beautiful morning...shame this afternoons a wash out....

highheelsandequations · 27/02/2011 15:40

Slaters are woodlice, I always find them crawling across our floors so sure LO will be eating them too when he/she arrives!

Jimmychoo my bump seems to squirm more in the evenings and weekends, have also had a few days feeling nothing or not a lot but from reading it seems that's nothing to worry about at this stage, didn't stop me "just checking" with my doppler though, so glad I bought it :o

ladygg mum to be pampering session sounds fab, and hope everything goes well at your scan on Friday.

Frachosmum I was told to empty my bladder once I arrived at clinic for scan so suppose it all depends on your clinic. Wouldn't worry about getting it particularly full anyhow.

Isn't it lovely to see the sun for a change :)

highheelsandequations · 27/02/2011 15:42

Sorry, mispelt your name fraochsmum can i blame pregnancy brain?

LadyGoneGaga · 27/02/2011 15:43

Peeing down here, Highheels - has been for most of the day Sad. You're lucky!

scarthy1975 · 27/02/2011 19:53

fraochsmum I had a scan at 37 weeks because ds didn't seem to be growing 'normally' but all was ok when he arrived - I just associated his weight with this. I think docs are justing being over cautious this time. Nice to see the baby a couple more times though.

My bump has suddenly expanded loads and I now look and feel pregnant - feel movement every morning and evening now :)

back to work tomorrow after a lovely week at home with ds and dh :(

Fraochsmum · 27/02/2011 20:38

Oh I see scarthy! Sorry, just being paranoid - a couple of people (strangers) even asked me if she was premature.

Slaters - sorry again - are woodlice, and I absolutely hate them! It's funny how we have such different names for things, I only realised a few years ago what they are normally called because I had never known them as anything else! Very polite about the name high, it's pronounced nothing like the spelling btw so I would accept anything Grin

Oh I meant to mention that I have been seeing the physio for a few weeks now and it seems that one of my hips is sitting higher than the other and that's what is causing the pain. I have started to get a bit of SPD too so she did some accupuncture the other day. Have to say it was a little sore - she seemed surprised when I jumped, but the ones between my heel and ankle bone felt as though they had hit a nerve! Hopefully will help right enough.

Jimmy I have to admit to not buying one thing before DD was born Blush We were so lucky to get lots of pressies and hand-me-downs that she was around 9 months before we had actually run out of anything - I really wouldn't underestimate how generous people will be once baby is here.

I prefer under-bump trousers btw.

cara2244 · 27/02/2011 21:42

Fraochsmum did you get physio through your doctor? Despite my best efforts I am still getting back pain, well now it is more like hip pain, sometimes even shooting pain, and all on one side. I'm going to ring the midwife tomorrow. I am finding its making me feel very negative about the pregnancy and quite grumpy too. The lakes this week was really hard cos I got so frustrated about how slow and sometimes painful I found the walks. I know from yoga that my hips are out of balance, as most peoples are, and I can actually feel the difference in them at the mo.

My scan is Friday. Very nervous!!

cara2244 · 27/02/2011 21:56

I have just had a good smile at the pants and boobs chat! I too become a member of the big pants brigade during pregnancy. I like low rise shorts but hate the sight of them when I'm not pregnant.
Boobs are also huge here too. My son keeps pointing at my cleavage and saying 'what are they'!!!

confuddledDOTcom · 27/02/2011 21:56

Eglu, don't worry I was teasing, if you're going to spend lots of money on eBay I'll save you by making them instead Wink Just be glad that maternity tops don't make you look like you're just huge, they show off your boobs too! I'm a GG and can go up to a J around pregnancy and breastfeeding, I seem to live in shapeless tops the last 4.5 years so a positive of being pregnant is I can wear something with shape that makes me look like I have boobs and a waist!

buttonmoon, you should try finding either EB or TB (Early and Tiny) size! I think I've only ever had one item in TB and tend to buy everything I can find in EB, which isn't usually a lot and when they are in that size for 3-4 months it's frustrating!

Jimmy, they usually take the opposite pattern to you as when you're busy you're rocking them to sleep but hey wake up when you settle, it's pretty much a pattern you'll get used to in the next 2 years! It's possible from what you describe baby is currently breech, I've had it for a weeks or so but I think she's turned as I'm getting a lot of heavy movement between my belly button and breastbone at the moment.

Fraochsmum, I will be having "extra" (ha!) scans this time because my youngest was IUGR as there was a notch in the placenta so they want to make sure I'm not starving this one too!

My preference for jeans are the ones with a separate panel, pocket ones keep falling down! Although I did have a nice pair of jeans with jersey pockets from BM but they split around the crotch seam earlier on the pregnancy and I was gutted to throw them (could have fixed them easily but Mum threw them :()

I've been saying if I got any work this year I would be happy to go up until April and got an enquiry last night for someone who lives about 1.5m from me and at the same hospital! She asked if I was sure about taking on someone that close (because we're expecting me to have the baby in May) but I'll be in the best place anyway lol!

As an aside, the talk of Slaters reminded me, last weeks EastEnders was what they were filming when we were there - I saw a copy of Walford Gazette and checked the date TheFirstMrsDevere laughed at me when I told her this week :(

LadyGoneGaga · 28/02/2011 08:33

I'm having extra scans this time too, Fraoch'sMum due to having anti-thyroid antibodies they wants to keep an eye on the growth - so have additional at 28 and 34 weeks.

Jimmychoo I agree, you will probably be given a lot! In advance I would just get place for baby to sleep, and be carried (sling or buggy), some nappies and some neutral babygrows and vests in Newborn size. You'll need around 8-10 I'd say. Then prepare for the flood of gifts. I have to say I love babies in babygrows anyway - so much snugglier.

Is anyone using cloth nappies? I have all mine left over from last time - so just need to get them back out. I would like to try and get them all sparkling white again though for the new arrival - anyone have any tips?

confuddledDOTcom · 28/02/2011 10:29

I want to use them this time, it was harder with my youngest because we've spent so much time at my parents with my partner working away and Mum doesn't like me using them.

To get the clean put them in a hot wash with prewash and Napisan or Oxyclean (or any oxygen bleach based product basically) I had to do it with my wipes that were starting to look like animal print Blush took a couple of goes but they're very bright now and the spots are faded or gone. I do that regularly and it's really made a difference.

buttonmoon78 · 28/02/2011 11:11

I used them with #2 and loved them. I'd have bought them again for #3 (had lent them out and they'd been lent on... and on... and they never came back!) but when I looked at buying them again they had gone from £90 to nearly £300 in 7 years. That made me v v angry!

The other trick is to wait until we have some lovely spring weather and then after using the oxy stuff, wash them and line dry them ensuring as much sun as possible hits the stained grubby bits. Worked a treat for me. I never realised until then how effective the sun was as a bleacher!

inbetweener · 28/02/2011 11:26

HI all,
I wanted to use cloth nappies too but am Shock at the price. I know it actually makes sense and that you save vast anounts of money in the long run but I cant quite convince DH of that just yet Grrrrr. Does anyone have a good recomendation of where I could get a start up kit at a reasonable price ? He is also convinced that the washing machine will be on permanantly, even thogh I have explained that with baby number 3 the washing machine will be on all the time anyway lol !

Well I am now 2 weeks away from my scan on the 14th !! I cant wait ! I am 20+5 now and can barely feel any movement, certainly not elbows and kicks Sad Im getting a bit worried I will be honest.
Every now and then, espeically at work if I lean forward I can feel a little tapping feeling but thats it !! Its making me worried as I am sure I felt loads more movement at this stage with DD2. I know I had a scan at around 16 weeks and they said the placenta was low lying but I feel huge so would it really restrict movement this much ??

Agghhhh I just want to be reassured Blush and feel a great big hefty kick. I am tempted for the first time ever to buy a doppler thingy from amazon but dont want DH to think im mad or get ripped off. Anyone got one ??

buttonmoon78 · 28/02/2011 12:36

Hi Inbetweener. I'm on #4, and not felt nearly as much as with #2&3. I'm happy I'm feeling some though (really not a lot) and that HB was good and strong on Weds.

That's how I feel about the cloth nappies too. I loved using them as they were the pre-formed disposable looky likey ones which were so convenient but as I rarely use Pampers or Huggies if I can help it nappies are not as expensive as they could be so when you work it out it's not that much of a saving!

However, I was told that as long as they've been soaked, you can put them in with 'normal' washing. Oh, and I soaked them in 2-3 drops of tea tree oil rather than using Milton or anything else.

Have you looked at a nappy service? We don't have one here but my sister uses one in Manchester which is subsidised and she has bought 0 nappies. They're all rented in the price of the laundry service. I must admit when she told me how much etc I was super Envy!

DH got back from his fornight abroad last night and is not chuffed that he can't feel it yet. I told him it was probably my mummy tummy which is getting in the way! Blush

wolfcubEm83 · 28/02/2011 13:21

Ive had a bump explosion!! 22+3 today. Ive gone from not looking any different to before i was pg to big, hard tummy overnight!! I love it Grin
Still dont think anyone who doesnt know me will be able to tell but its so nice to rub and its making me feel super excited.

Feel amazing, full of energy and my hair has gone lovely and thick. I am really enjoying this bit of pregnancy, so different to how i felt 6 weeks ago. As this is my first id be interested to know from you experienced mums how long this good bit lasts.

I hope everyone else is feeling good, i feel a bit like ive had a personality transplant and my OH is thrilled because ive started proper cooking and cleaning again (not just beans on toast and a quick zoom round with the hoover)Grin

buttonmoon78 · 28/02/2011 13:31

I nearly forgot - how'd the scan go Nicola? When you said you won't tell anyone you didn't really mean us did you?!

inbetweener · 28/02/2011 15:27

OOh yes nicola what are you having ?? This is my number three and my scan isnt till the 14th so im bursting !!! I have 2 DD already and to be honest I reckon this one is a DD too. I think im ok with that, its the comments from other people that make it a bit difficult.

confuddledDOTcom · 28/02/2011 16:40

Don't use tea tree for wet paling it's harsh and can damage the material. It's OK for dry paling, you put the nappies in a bucket with no water then put some tea tree on a cotton wool pad. I got told off by Bambino Mio because I mentioned some people dry pale like that and they thought I meant wet pale Blush

inbetweener, work out how much 6 disposable nappies a day (averaging out because you'll use between 4 and 12 nappies!)will cost you over 3 years and how many nappies you need to use to have paid for the real nappies. It's quite a scary thought, if you then take the size of the nappy and multiply it by how many in a year you'll end up with IIRC something like 3 skip loads Shock

One extra wash every 3 days is all I've needed, tumble dryers are best for absorbency so you don't need to hang them out (unless you need some sun bleach) so it's very little work really and they've come a long way since the terry days (although you can still get those) and they're pretty similar to putting on a disposable now.

Twit · 28/02/2011 19:49

Another cloth nappy user here, I'm using the smae ones as before, dry pail and wash every other day (usually at 40), hanging out to dry or tumble drying if I'm desperate. I love the fact that I never have that No Nappy Panic at about 8pm Grin

And yes Nicola, I hope you weren't including us in that were you?

So bump was out and proud, had one eheheheheh

LadyGoneGaga · 28/02/2011 22:21

Check your local council website. Mine gave me £50 towards mine. Helps a bit. And if you have more than one they pay for themselves several times over. I used theNappylady.com for a personalised recommendation of what to get and bought everything through them.

Will try the nappisan tip. They're not too bad to be honest but I want to get them really sparkling white for the new baby! I always dry pailed and washed at 40 every other day. About once a week did a 60 wash to kill off any nasties and line dried when poss.

I'm starting to feel a lot better, WolfcubEm - DP actually seeing me in evenings again, cleaned house from top to bottom at weekend and baked fairy cakes! But is my second so still more tired than with first. make the most of feeling amazing. When you get bigger you'll get more tired and cumbersome again but not as bad as first trimester (I don't think)

Orchid12 · 01/03/2011 09:09

I used Bambino Mio nappies too. I had to stop using them at about 18/20 months as DS got too big for the wraps and I couldn't find another type that fitted. I would like to use them this time too.

Shesalady napisan is brilliant for getting nappies really white again. Soak overnight and then wash and you should find they come up beautifully Smile. My mum always used to do it for me and I loved having them looking pristine (until the next use!). I dry pailed too, I started off putting lavender oil in with them, but gave up and just bunged them in the nappy bin and straight into the wash every other day or so.

I'm also feeling tons better now. I have finally turned a corner! Squidge is doing daily aerobics which is great. I have another anterior placenta, and didn't feel DS until he was about 22 weeks. I thought it would be the same this time too but I've been feeling it for the past couple of weeks and am only 22 weeks tomorrow.

inbetweener · 01/03/2011 11:30

Morning everyone,
Ok i am having a freak out. I am 19+5 today and still barely feeling anything.
Yesterday at my desk I think I felt a few pokes and prods but since then nothing. No kicks, no squirms no little bubbles nothing !!!!!!!!!! I am sure I felt movement by now with my other 2 pregnancies !! Its all I can think about at the moment I am making myself feel sick its ridiculous.

Are you ALL feeling really strong movements now ? is it just me feeling nothing ?
I dont even know what to do. I mentioned it to the MW when i was 18 weeks but she just said it was eraly days, well im nearly 20 weeks now !!!
