MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

Button, it?s not that long ? we won?t forget! Sues only 11 more days! Yay!
Twit and Nicola, I?m loving the clothing talk! You?ve made me laugh! I have made a discovery this week in the underwear department. I finally made the jump to big pants. They?re the type my granny would have called ?harvest festivals? (followed by a whispered ?safely gathered in?). They?re the M&S ?full brief? and I?m slightly ashamed to say that they have genuinely changed my life! Until now I have been wearing my normal pre-pregnancy thongs (not exactly Agent Provocateur but M&S) and I made the jump on the advice of a pregnant friend who is a month ahead as I had been moaning about the hideous VPL. Well now I have gone to the other side I realise how uncomfortable I actually was. Giant cotton pants are bliss ? something I NEVER thought I would say! Will I ever be able to go back.....?
Sues that is brilliant news ? you have every right to be chuffed!
Confuddled congratulations ? lovely news!

Trying again...

Buttonmoon, it?s thought that the pH balance of the mother makes her more susceptible to one or the other and that some women are more balanced so will have an equal amount. The other thing that can help decide is when in your cycle you have sex, the Y?s are sprinters where as the X?s are long distance, so whilst the Y will get there fast the X will get there slower but last longer, so if it?s a day or two before ovulation you?re more likely to end up with a girl but around the time of ovulation will be more likely to be a boy. I see HFD beat me to it!

HighFibre, having lost a baby I hate the comments about what I?m hoping for! I?m hoping for a live baby, not even a healthy one (the other two have suffered from their pregnancies and births so even wanting a healthy baby would be putting them down in my eyes) I don?t understand why people think I would care one way or another.

Scarthy, my scar has been itchy. It got bad today but I found the elastic on my pants had gone under my bump and was rubbing my scar Blush Your doctor should give you the choice as a previous section whether you want to VBAC or have an ElCS

nicolamumof3, they can?t tell you that you have GBS without testing whilst you?re in labour. You will have it for your entire life but it won?t always be active. You can test for it one day and have a positive and the next day be negative and vice versa. I bet it was awful being in labour with a bad cold! Labouring at home for as long as possible is a really good idea.

Jimmy, I?ve never done bonding with the bump. Some can some can?t. Don?t worry about which camp you?re in Smile it?ll be different when the baby is here.

Pesha, I?ve taken to posting like that! As far as painrelief goes you can take co-codamol, take it like medication though or else it won?t help. If co-codamol doesn?t help then you can get co-dydramol on prescription. Speak to your obstetrician or midwife for a referral to a specialist physio. There?s not a lot they can do in pregnancy ? teach you to manage it and prescribe support aids/ crutches if needed is about it. It doesn?t help longterm to have pysio as it helps for a day or two and usually after pregnancy it goes away. Tubigrip can give some relief but if you?re really having problems you need a support belt.

Sues, we did with our second but it wasn?t the first baby with the eldest so should have done it before really. Not sure what we?ll do this time.

I?ve set up a group, it?s old style as you need to add people before you can set up a new style group and I don?t have any of you (as far as I know Confused) on my friends list. It?s here, let me know you?ve applied in PM here so I can accept you.

confuddledDOTcom · 24/02/2011 23:29

Hurray!

Mitchell81 · 25/02/2011 07:20

Have joined the fb group but can't seem to pm. Using my phone so might be the problem. My nickname is my surname.

All well at my 20 week scan last week, but my SPD or whatever it is called now is back and using the support belt which is helping. It looks like afew are also suffering on here.

JimmyChoo17 · 25/02/2011 09:10

I cant PM either for some reason! I think its my version of internet as I cant click to profile either. Will try on diff PC but Ive requested to join just now xx

Eglu · 25/02/2011 09:20

Have PMed you Confuddled.

inbetweener · 25/02/2011 10:19

Hi all !
button Dont wory my scan isnt till the 14th march and I will be over 22 weeks !!!!!!!!!! Not happy at waiting that long I can tell you !!
Im ok here. Still have the stiffest pelvis and bum when getting and starting off lol. Im ok once I get going.
Im soooooooooo tired though. All the time !! Ive been at work all week and the girls have been off for halfterm with DH. Luckily he has been entertaining them but its my turn today and I havent a thing planned Blush DD1 just asked me where we are going today so I had better get dressed and think of something !! Not long been up !!

Eglu · 25/02/2011 17:42

Inbetweener I have an incredibly sore bum area too. I got up from the sofa earlier and couldn't walk. Will definitely have to mention it to the mw when I next see her. It also hurts a lot if I walk to school to collect the DC.

buttonmoon78 · 25/02/2011 20:40

Thanks for reminding me you have later scan dates guys...

Had a lovely day today. My boss gave me an extra days paid holiday so was able to spend some time with dcs and my mum. Went to Frankie & Benny's for lunch then to see Gnomeo & Juliet. Then back home I slept for 90 mins Grin!

Even better, mum paid for everything as we're totally skint until DH starts bringing home the bacon again...

sues1974 · 25/02/2011 22:44

hiya
*confuddled ive requested to join, FB profile piccy is of me and my little boy. not hard to work out as im no good of thinking up good forum names, so my name is quite obviously sues (suzanne but everyone calls me sues).
misslolitta i am wearing granny pants and they are soooo comfty. in fact im still wearing ones that i bought from matalan to wear in hospital as didnt liek the thought of wearing paper knickers after the birth in hospital. they dont go over my bump but are so much more comfortable on my bum than my old thongs, to be honest after having my little boy i never fully went back to thongs! must be getting old :o
xx

confuddledDOTcom · 25/02/2011 23:20

I've added everyone who PM'd me plus Mitchell and sues. There are three unaccounted for DW, TS and DS let me know if that's you.

Button, I had a F&B lunch today too, it was almost 2pm when we got out of the hospital (another scan this morning, 10am appointment!) that we took the eldest straight to lunch and got Dad to pick up the youngest from nursery.

Sues, that's a tip I was given in antenatal classes. You can often get cheap big pants for a similar cost to disposable ones and they're often more comfortable, especially if you have stitches that can catch, you can still just stick them in the bin at the end of the day.

HighFibreDiet · 26/02/2011 03:24

hello again everyone! After the initial warm response from my mum I had an e-mail saying how she was upset that she wouldn't be around for the birth or to see her grandchild growing up. Which was exactly the response I expected - and exactly why I wanted to wait until we had had the anomaly scan before I told her at all. Oh and she was disappointed that I hadn't told her before, and said what was our relationship like if I couldn't talk to her about important things? Sad Anyway I have e-mailed her back explaining my reasons, but it's not as if I have been specifically keeping her in the dark - the only other people back in England who knew I was pg (apart from you folk) are my previous midwife and my sister.

jimmychoo I don't feel that I have bonded with this baby either. I thought the scan might make a difference but it didn't really. I hope the hormones kick in when the baby is actually born. I would have said the same thing as Twit about iron levels and tiredness so I'm surprised that your blood test came up okay. My midwife did say mine looked fine but I should still make sure I got enough iron every day - she says you need about 30mg per day when pg, which is far more than during pre-conception or breastfeeding.

pesha I think you're very brave to agree to go to Centreparcs but it might work out fine if you've already had the baby and it means the kids are out of your hair! I've been thinking about slings as well - I used to have a great Mei Tai but I gave it to my sister and she has since given it to a friend. I had a look here and they are at least $120 but it is probably a good investment if I don't get any hand-me-downs. I know I could make a wrap sling myself but I'm not fond of all the extra fabric wrapping around me.

buttonmoon please don't feel left out that your scan isn't for a while. At least you will have had the benefit of all our experiences before you go in! And real birth dates vary so much from the due dates that you may end up being one of the first to have your baby!

I had to laugh when someone posted about a 'comfortably full bladder'. I followed the instructions I was given for my scan - empty your bladder 1h before scan time and then drink 1 litre of water in the next half an hour. My bladder was very uncomfortably full and I had to ask the sonographer if I could go and have a wee after she'd done the most important measurements. To my eyes it didn't affect the quality of the picture at all after I'd gone to the toilet. I seem to remember ignoring the instructions completely last time round but this time I was trying to be good. Smile

jimmychoo I'm surprised they didn't measure the bpd, did they book another scan to do it later?

I agree with twit about the clothes. At this stage I would prefer over bump trousers but when I'm too big they just seem to roll down. Nicola I am very short too and have some lovely yoga pants from Bamboo Yoga which I just took up. They are great for wearing around the house but look a bit too casual for outside (except in the first few weeks postnatally when I just don't care what anyone thinks about my clothes).

and finally confuddled I agree about all the comments about whether you're expecting a boy or a girl. Ds1 was in special care as a neonate and ds2 has had various health problems over the years so the best I can hope for is that they can be as healthy as possible for their particular situation iyswim. And of course it doesn't affect how much we love them compared to ds3 who luckily has been very robust so far.

Lovely to check in from time to time and thinking of you all.

Scottygirl10 · 26/02/2011 10:21

Hi confuddled I'm DW. Hope all you ladies are well. Have been reading posts re iron levels with interest as I really feel fatigued, with heavy limbs and shortness of breath. I'll go to docs on Monday and have levels checked. I know how I feel at the end of a working day so all you ladies who feel this way and have other children to attend to are superwoman!

Twit · 26/02/2011 11:18
Grin

I'm really stiff as well, getting up and moving off is an issue, but I too am ok once I get going.

Ah well, now the scans are mostly over with it's time to settle in for the long haul. This is the part of pregancy that really drags for me. A big long wait...

I know people will either think we were trying for another girl (like with ds3) or think we are disappointed with another boy. None of this is true.

Any suggestions as to what to say when I start getting the negative comments when this pg becomes common knowledge? I'm wavering between; rolling eyes, smiling good naturedly and telling them to fuck off. Blush

Eglu · 26/02/2011 11:50

Hi everyone. I need someone to stop me going on Ebay. I just won a brand new Moby wrap for £18.99. Decided to bid on a new one at that price as the second hand ones were selling for the same or more.

I'm very excited to get it as I'd like to try it on etc. before the bump gets too big.

I'm really trying to remember to take iron supplements as I always get badly anaemic, and want to avoid that if possible. I'm finding this pg hard enough anyway.

I'm spending this afternoon baking a birthday cake for my MIL with the boys, so I will have a lovely messy kitchen, but baking with the boys is stil fun as they enjoy it so much. :)

JimmyChoo17 · 26/02/2011 12:05

How many mg are u ladies taking in additional iron supplements?

Anyone taking omega 3 either? I can't even think about eating any fish whereas I used to love it!

I am going to ask about bpd measurement at my next appointment...I don't know why never took it ...I never noticed that there wasn't a marker for it until I came home.

Highfibrediet....I have felt a little bit better about bump these past 2 days am hopping these feelings will increase as I feel bad at not bonding and as I'm feeling so bad all the time I don't feel like I've been positive enough. I'm going to buy a few bits for the nursery this weekend so I actually see physical evidence other than my bump of course, that this is really happening! I've always known I wanted kids and love them so it's a little shocking to feel so detached. I'm sure it will come for us soon hon xxx

Eglu... Cant help u restrain I am afraid....have been nosing on ebay and amazon all of last night :-). Not spent yet but feel the presence of payday.....maybe about to change all that!

JimmyChoo17 · 26/02/2011 12:06

Ps....someone appears to have enhanced my bosums overnight!!!???

confuddledDOTcom · 26/02/2011 12:31

Scotty you've been added!

Twit, I'd go with the last one or all three.

confuddledDOTcom · 26/02/2011 12:32

Eglu, I can make you new ones for £20 and throw in P&P that'll save you from eBay and you'll be able to choose from a wider range of colours and patterns Wink

JimmyChoo17 · 26/02/2011 12:34

Yeah I agree twit...all 3!

I find other people so insensitive once u become pregnant! I have started walking off or saying something equally insensitive back...I shouldn't but I am reaching the end of my tether!!! I find women worse than men to be honest.

highheelsandequations · 26/02/2011 13:32

So 20 week scan yesterday and all looked fine. Didn't find out the flavour and nothing was at all obvious from the way baby was lying :) Measurements all seemed right for dates and nothing weird was seen so very relieved all's well.

I'm currently favouring underbump trousers, have some black linen ones from Next which are fab, so comfy, and 2 pairs of yoga type trousers from ASOS which I can see being a staple favourite.

Going to try and catch up properly on everyone's news and hopefully be back later with a less selfish post but just now the sun is shining for once so I'm determined to get out and see it!

Eglu · 26/02/2011 14:25

Confuddled too late, since I already bought one I'm afraid.

On the subject of trousers, I'm favouring leggings over the bump atm, and dresses.

Someone seems to have inflated my boobs a lot in the past two weeks. I've gone up two cup sizes. Currently in a 32GG, so anyitnhg I wear makes me look rather boobalicious. I'm also at that stage in pg when every time I eat something manages to fall down my cleavage. Oh, the joys.

Twit, everyone assumes I am over the moon now I'm having a girl after two boys. And of course that my reason for having no. 3 was to have a girl. I almost wish it was a boy so I could show how happy I would have been with that too.

buttonmoon78 · 26/02/2011 16:05

Have had a good afternoon sorting out my bedroom. Now got a growing pile of baby bits in the corner. It's such a comforting sight! I know it's ages until July but it makes me feel that I'm doing something useful rather than just twiddling my thumbs getting cross and impatient. So far it consists of my carrycot, carseat and 2 packs of nappies. I've got some other bits but they're stored in various wardrobes about the house so will need to liberate them bit by bit!

I was sorting out some old sheets earlier and thought I might cut some down to fit the carrycot/cot. With some of them it's just that the middle has worn through a bit so it would be a shame to chuck them and then spend money on buying new baby ones.

Am Angry with Tesco though. Every time I go to get some vests and sleepsuits they've got no newborn stuff! I'm sure it's a ploy as they're currently on 3 for 2.

Ho hum, plenty of time...

squirrel007 · 26/02/2011 21:28

Hi everyone! I had my 20 week scan earlier this week, and everything looks good :) It's a relief to have it over and done with because there's always a little worry that something might be wrong, but it's also strange to think that the next time we see the baby will be when it's born! Unless there turns out to be any other reason to scan before then. Didn't find out what it is though, so it'll be a surprise.

After the discussion on here before about slings, I just ordered myself a moby wrap, which will arrive next week so I can try it out.

I have under-bump and over-bump trousers, don't actually think I have a preference as they're all quite comfy. Am finding ebay good for maternity clothes as not many shops here sell a good range.
