PerfectDromedary · 27/12/2010 19:01

Have heard good things on the FESH thread about Dr Brown bottles. Am forking out for a Medela swing electric pump as they seem to be universally acknowledged as a good thing, and there are a whole bunch of reasons that one might need to express that aren't just to get the expressed milk.

I am starting to wonder about my own siege mentality about buying stuff, though - it's not like there won't be shops or the Internet after the baby is born.

Mas saw your fabulous news, well done, precious! Hope you're ok and settling happily into parenthood. Or at least getting SOME sleep.

Polleeeeeeeeeee How YOU doin'?

AlpinePony · 27/12/2010 19:46

drom I don't think it's a bad thing at all to have everything in and ready. I wasn't ready, what with him being premature and me being ill afterwards. It was a while before I was "shopping fit" and whilst you can send out others - there's nothing quite like choosing for yourself. Microwave sterilisers are the biz.

Muser · 27/12/2010 20:18

I don't think there's anything wrong with being prepared either. It's the expresser I'm wondering most about as I don't really know what to get.

PerfectDromedary · 27/12/2010 20:42

Pone That's a good point. Fine, I shall continue with my giant John Lewis list, then.

Muse Apparently this is what you want www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d.html/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/278-8891697-6618330?a=B000LPZTQY. Or you could buy a cheapie hand pump until you see how you're getting on with BF'ing?

MsFC · 27/12/2010 21:12

Our JL delivery arrives on 8 Jan. Cor blimey. This is really happening. I got an Avent pump, probably not the best, but I was so over excited about it being electric!

Still don't have any daytime nursing bras. Or enough maternity pads. Or enough cheap pants. And my Mum started on saying she was sure I was going to be early this time. Hmm. Yes Mum, you would know after just having the one wouldn't you!!

I have had a crappy cold for the last few days, I'm hoping it could be finally clearing today. Now I'm worried the FC and his weak male delicate immune system will catch it just as I give birth....

I'm so over the decorations already. Is tomorrow too early to take them back and recline my living room?

Muser · 27/12/2010 21:47

Take em down, I don't like going into the new year with decorations up.

Drom that link doesn't work for me.

MsFC · 27/12/2010 22:11

Glad it's not just me muse, they are coming down tomorrow!

POL!!!!! are you laying??

Scorpette · 27/12/2010 22:53

PollyPocket, hope you're doing well

PerfectDromedary · 27/12/2010 23:16

Sorry, Muse. Try this.

PerfectDromedary · 27/12/2010 23:17

MrsFC Just making list now. It is sooooooo citing!

PollyPoo · 27/12/2010 23:20

No laying going on here I'm afraid. Had a v lazy day waiting around for midwife to visit. BP still ok and we are back on for a home birth, woop woop!

Muse I'm going with what we did last time - a sterilser set up and ready to go, a hand breast pump until I'm sure I can BF, and a few bottles. Steriliser was great even while BF as the pump could be chucked in it, along with nipple shields which I used a lot and dummies etc.

I feel like I am going to be pregnant forever. I get loads of twinges and BH in the evening but it doesn't come to anything. Still, tomorrow is my due date according to my calculations and I'm planning to visit the 'rents, pick up a curry on the way home and then have the secks, so we'll see if that gets things moving!

If not, I'm seeing midwife for stretch and sweep on Weds, followed by coffee and cake with mates. All snow has gone and I am so looking forward to getting out of the house. Surely, by the law of sod, that means I will go into labour tonight?

Muser · 28/12/2010 08:45

Slightly disappointed you're not laying Poo. But clearly the babe is just hanging on to ensure you get that homebirth. Hooray for good BP and no snow.

Thanks for the breast pump link Drom, that thing looks very dinky. I shall add it to the list, but may hold off on the ordering until I know I'm going to use it.

I love this buying things stage, it all feels so real. Once we have the new carpets installed and i've painted the study I am going to get all the little bits and bobs.

rocketleaf · 28/12/2010 16:18

Hello Hagalinos, Hope you all had lovely xmas's and following festive days. Just back from mammoth trip up and down country which had its ups and downs but was mostly ups. I am so bloody tired now tho and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.

score sorry to hear you are in so much pain, I've been having a few back twinges, I think mostly from sitting in the car/not sleeping in my own bed. Hoping thse will clear up now we are home.

muse I got a kindle too, I luffs it very much although have just realised it will put and end to reading in the bath. The screen is quite amazing and is tempting me to take it apart to find out how it works!

pol glad you are now back on for a home birth. Hope things get moving for you soon.

All this talk of lists is freaking me out a bit as I really don't know where to start> I suppose I don't really need to worry about it for a while yet but if anyone fancies posting their list so I can just crib off that, I'd be most grateful Wink Mind you, I am osmosing bits and bobs of info from here and my friends/family with kids so hoping I will have gleaned enough to be a bit better informed by the time it matters.

In other news, I think I felt some movement last night. Just little twitchy feelings very low down just above my pubic bone. So I think that must be the Sprout practicing tap dancing or possibly complaining about being squished as I can't stop sleeping face down. Not 100% sure thats what it is as I think thats quite early for a first timer? but I think I'l pretend it is even if it turns out to be wind :o

Muser · 28/12/2010 17:15

Rocket, you can read the Kindle in the bath. I have done so. It is more robust than a paperback, just don't drop it.

CluckyKate · 28/12/2010 17:17

Sounds like Sprout is making his presence known Rockster...enjoy the little twitches while you can as they quickly turn to thumping great punches.

Sorry you're still hurtin' from your fall Scorps.I had a similar comedy moment leading the horse in...not the best idea in slippy mud when you're carrying a toddler and 8 months pregnant. Fell flat on my arse into a muddy puddle - tres embarassing Blush

I got a kindle in my stocking too with a lovely red case to put it in. Am ejoying just looking at it and haven't got round to buying any books....still have a shelf full of paperbacks to get through first.

Great news that the homebirth is back on Pol - fingers crossed you'll be the first ESH ever to achieve such a thing (am excluding Box in this as hers wasn't planned).

ginhag · 28/12/2010 19:09

poops am so glad hb is back on :)

We are back home, mooch is still at granny n grandad's as it is more fun Grin

Which means mr gin has been able to paint our stairs and I have been sorting out/washing teeny tiny baby clothes that he brought down from the attic It's all so real now I am excited and terrified in equal measure...

Have to tackle moochie's toy cupboards tomorrow before all his Christmas loot comes home!

Other than that I have been mostly sitting/having lovely baths in my newly fixed bathroom with The World's Best Bubblebath/sleeping. As these are my current favourite hobbies.

Oh, and I think we have a name for Thing 2 :)

ginhag · 28/12/2010 19:13

Btw I hated expressing last time so am unsure if I can be arsed with trying it again. Suppose I should think about it at some point

weewee I hope you are all happy and snuggly and your undercarriage is holding up ok :)

Muser · 28/12/2010 19:50

It does sound like Sprout is probably dancing rocket, how many weeks are you now?

Gin, that sounds like a blissful existence. The teeny tiny baby clothes have been making me weepy lately.

We now have a stand for the Moses basket and a baby bath courtesy of my brother. Which means I can put the Moses basket up when we get home and then freak out and hide it back on the wardrobe.

Muser · 28/12/2010 19:52

Oh and a door bouncer. Bouncey!

ginhag · 28/12/2010 20:03

Muse you are sounding v organised! I'm not, but today was a good start. And I gazed at baby blankets online for aaages as that is one thing I want to buy for thing2, am still trying to work out how much we actually need once I've sorted through moochie's old stuff...

The teeny clothes are a double whammy as we were also remembering mooch in them when he was a wee tiny thing - the hat he wore when born looks so small but it was really big on him then, back when he looked like a very small very old man

I can't have a bath at the moment as I am not allowed to walk on the stairs. Boo.

Have you started on the natal hippo cd yet muse? I have. As I am convinced this baby is coming early (for no actual, y'know, reason is just what I think.)

My mum kept calling me 'fat' in an affectionate way at Xmas. Which she obviously found amusing. Me, not so much Hmm

Muser · 28/12/2010 20:11

I'm going to get the cd out when I get home. I had a listen a few weeks ago but need to start using it properly.

We're not so much organised as blessed with relatives to pass stuff on! Also TBG is due to go away for work in Jan so wanted to get stuff organised a bit before he goes, to avoid last minute manics. Not doing anything else until new carpets are fitted in mid Jan.

ginhag · 28/12/2010 20:37

We're moving at some point, dunno when. Have to do work on new place first, and haven't completed yet, so imagine it will be with a very small baby... Which will be a laugh Confused

Scorpette · 28/12/2010 20:47

Can't get on the interflues verh much down here (giving you all a welcome break from me, no doubt!) but wanted to stop by and give you all a sexy bitchslap

Pol, am so glad for you that your lovely HB is back on track. Just keep that BP steady, old gal :)

Gin, your bath/sleep/cute baby clothes routine sounds idyllic. And you know you ain't fat, far from it, my lovely (still annoying though, innit). PS I wanna know the name!

Muse, I WANT A DOOR BOUNCER! For me, I mean. I guess Teh Baybee can have a go too when it's old enough That used to be my v favest thing when I was a nipper - in fact, one of my earliest memories is sproinging up and down in one watching my Mum iron and chat to me

Cluckers - ouch! A muddy fall at 8 months sounds awful, poor thing. My back is better today, fanks to all for the sympathy.

Rocket, I started getting those weird twinges about a month ago and still get them and still dunno if it's stretching or general womble stuff or the baby doing its workout or wot. Mix of all, probably. The list thing is overwhelming, I agree. But fun overwhelming. Well-meaning people/rellies keep suggesting stuff we'll need, but it tends to be Person A saying 'oh, you'll not be able to do without X' and then Person B saying 'don't bother getting an X, we never used ours', gah! Will stick my guns and get what I think we need

I WANNA KINDLE! Why won't any of you lot get me one, waaaah!

PollyPoo · 29/12/2010 08:51

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't want a kindle? I like the feel and smell of books. They are like old friends.

Well, just checking in to report on progress. Basically, there is none. Hoping to see midwife for BP check and S&S today, just waiting to here from her, so I'm going to do some meditation and stuff to try and keep BP low. Then I've got to go to tesco, post office and visit a friend for coffee (for me) and playdate (for Boo). Haven't seen her for ages so will be lovely to catch up. Boo has been climbing the walls of late, far too much time spent in our house so it will do her good to get out too.

How is everyone else? Are you still on hols or is anyone back to work already? TG has gone to work, seems wrong as he has been home so much lately. I am really quite amazed that I haven't killed him. Xmas Grin

AlpinePony · 29/12/2010 10:24

pol I have no interest either - I spend far too long looking at a screen as it is, I like books. And you can drop them in the bath. I'm not sure a visit to the PO will help your BP any... Wink
