pinkclouds · 06/12/2010 10:15

Hi ladies,
Can I join pls. I got my BFP a couple of weeks ago (22nd Nov). I was only 11 dpo but got a really strong positive, and had extremely sore boobs which is why I tested!!

So I think my EDD is around the 3rd of August. Although I ovulate really late in my cycle, so the midwife will give me EDD of about 28th July. With My previous DC I have been 5 days over.

So this is No 4 for me. I have a quite a big age gap this time round DD1(7) DS1(6) DS2(4).

lilacblossom · 06/12/2010 10:57

Hello everyone...can I join in? Just found out ... well, a week ago - pg#3 (MC, DS 17 months) and I think my EDD will be 9/8/11...excited but doesn't feel real yet!

Georgimama · 06/12/2010 11:04

Morning all, feeling ghastly this morning. Terrible diarrhoea for last 24 hours. Terrified it is going to affect the bean but from a quick thread I started it earlier seems it shouldn't.

I think I will try to arrange a private dating scan for next week (need to be 7 weeks I think) for reassurance. Nearest place for me is the Glen Hospital in Bristol which charges £99.

Hodel · 06/12/2010 12:57

Exhaustion has set in today. I can barely keep my eyes open and am struggling to move my body. So far no nausea but I remember last time that began at about 7 weeks. It just dawned on me that will be exactly when we're flying 13 hours from Singapore to London. I hated the 1st trimester the last time, and now I'm starting to remember why!

Georgimama · 06/12/2010 12:59

I hated the first trimester too, was so relieved to get beyond 13 weeks or so (although I didn't read MN then and therefore did not know just how many other things can go wrong, much, much later on).

Could I just sleep through the next six or seven weeks, please?

coastgirl · 06/12/2010 17:32

When are people making GP/midwife appointments? I phoned my GP (was going to leave it a couple of weeks but DH read somewhere you should go straight away!) and the receptionist half-heartedly gave me the number for the midwife team (and didn't tell me they were shut at the time I called...) saying "they probably won't want to see you yet though". Well, OK, I had guessed that, but some indication of what might happen when would be good! Anyway, I'll give the midwives a call soon and see what they say.

Firawla · 06/12/2010 17:35

i made my apt today which will be for next week. i always do it straight away? never been told 'they dont want to see you' i think thats quite rude of your receptionist Confused
obviously your booking in apt wont be straight away but it seems good to go to gp get your midwife/hospital referal and get in the system so that you get your 1st scan on time and everything?

coastgirl · 06/12/2010 17:40

She seemed completely uninterested and didn't say anything about making a GP appointment at all, just to call the midwife team (actually she said call such-and-such a ward at the local hospital and I had to google it to find out what it was!). I'm sure it's all routine and boring to her but I've never been pregnant before and haven't even had any local pregnant friends so I am completely clueless about what to do when.

She took my name and address etc so I suppose that will go on the system now?

Georgimama · 06/12/2010 17:49

From my experience last time, your first appointment with the MW is quite long - they want to know about any previous pregnancies/MCs, whether you've had any STIs, what the set up is like at home, whether the pregnancy is planned (I think this is all social care type stuff really). At some point you have a blood test for HIV - the blood sample may be in the first appointment, can't remember.

When last diffed you didn't get a 12 week scan in this area but apparently you now do. However I am going to pay for a dating scan in the next couple of weeks.

Still feeling pretty rough and worried about bean.

Georgimama · 06/12/2010 17:50

You then won't have another for at least 4 weeks - when you do you always take some wee with you (!) and they feel your abdomen, listen with the doppler and a quick chat about your health. Ten minutes tops.

coastgirl · 06/12/2010 18:06

Thanks, Georgimama, that's really helpful! I looked in the books and on the NHS website but they're so bloody vague about everything.

Hope you feel better soon, too.

Georgimama · 06/12/2010 18:10

If they still do it, you get a pretty helpful NHS book about pregnancy and birth from the MW. The photos are dreadful, must have been taken in the 1970s, but the info is quite helpful. Not as helpful as MN though, but I didn't know about this site then.

milanomum · 06/12/2010 18:52

Hello everyone!
I've just found out I'm up the duff after TTc #2 for about 9 months Confused. I had a mc at halloween at 6 weeks but this time round the BFP was almost screaming at me so am more hopeful Grin. I am about 5 weeks already I think but held off testing until the other day - have a CBdigi for tomorrow morning so hoping the weeks will correspond.
Should be due around the 4th but if it's anything like DD it'll pop out late July!

Waverley82 · 06/12/2010 19:33

Hi milanomum, congrats!

Coastgirl - I went in to see my doctor the day after I got my BFP - not sure what I was expecting but I kind of thought they would, um, check I was actually pregnant?! Nope, just gave me a book (very helpful actually), told me not to drink or smoke, told me it wasn't an illness and that I wasn't eating for two. Was in and out in less than 5 mins.

I've since received a letter with a date in December for a booking-in appointment with the midwife (this sounds like it will be the appointment Georgimama is talking about) and date for my 12 week scan in January.

It all feels quite odd at the moment, not quite real, but guess that's the same for everyone - I imagine the 12 week scan is maybe when it hits home?

I've just amended the list to add my age and also add my other 2 (albeit brief) pregnancies.

MrsBB1982 · 06/12/2010 19:43

My GP receptionist was not at all helpful. Phoned asking for a booking appointment with the midwife. She treated me slightly like an idiot when she asked how many weeks I was and explained I was just over 5.
Seemed like part of it was 'why book so early' and the other bit was 'well "my dear" clearly you see the GP first'.
See "my dear" I've not done this before and seeing as I'm fit and healthy didn't see why I'd need to waste a GP slot only to be told I need to see the MW, which I'd kinda worked out for myself.

northeastmummy · 06/12/2010 20:28

I agree - there's no point in wasting GP time with a first appointment. In fact, up here they've just changed the system so we can go straight to the midwife.

And coastgirl, I think it's always a good idea to phone as soon as you can for an appointment. It's sometimes weeks until you get one then that can delay your scan etc. I phoned today and couldn't get an appointment until 22nd December.

So, if the receptionist gives you any more attitude I would just make that point!

Congratulations to all new joiners x

RunDMC · 06/12/2010 22:20

hi to all the new people and congratulations.

am feeling progressively worse with nausea - which by the way is a myth that it's morning sickness - got it morning, noon and night :( but telling myself it is a good sign of a strong pg. Someone told me to eat little and often but that's just a cue to eat biscuits all day !

Today was the first day where I actually felt really very ill - sick, shaky and generally yuck - like I could have gone to bed this afternoon but have a very busy week at work so not an option unfortunately. I do work at home though so can at least sit at my desk in my pj's if necessary !

Can't really help with the maternity leave debate as I'm self employed so will not really be taking much time off as such - just trying to fit contract work around things (ha, how naive does that sound ?!)

also booked in with the midwives here - first appointment is the 21st which is a booking in appointment where they take all your details.

hope you are all well and not suffering too much !

Firawla · 06/12/2010 22:50

just adding myself on the list too i think i forgot to do it

ImpatientCat · 07/12/2010 09:37

Hi all and welcome newcomers!
Wow, 16 and not even half way through the month! Smile

I tried calling my GP last Monday and was told by a grumpy receptionist that they didnt have any free slots for another two weeks. When explaining I was pregnant and just needed a referral to a midwifery service she said "You can self-refer you know" in a tone that told me everyone should know this and how stopid am I? She couldn't tell me HOW though...

Did my own research online and found out how to self-refer with the hospital I'd like to use and they are due to call me some time this week.

Reading this thread, it seems being exceptionally unhelpful and generally rude is a criteria for becoming a GP receptionist.

RunDMC: Feel you pain re nausea. Am working from home myself today, can stomach the thought of a crowded tube (and the smells! it was bad enough before my senses went hypersensitive!).
Cant wait to be heavily pregnant on the tube in the height of summer....oh joy...

ImpatientCat · 07/12/2010 09:39

That should be "can't stomach"!

ImpatientCat · 07/12/2010 09:40

And that should be " can't stomach"!

milanomum · 07/12/2010 12:29

I can't believe the rudeness of the receptionists you all have to deal with! I'm in Italy (obviously) and people tend to be quite nice most of the time! The only crap thing is that most of the time you have to go private to get visits done in the right time bracket, so maybe that's why people are nicer Smile
Can't help on morning sickness I'm afraid - I didn't have it with my first and don't seem to have it this time round either but I do sypmathise with smelly tube trips - my sense of smell is ridiculous at the minute!

ImpatientCat · 07/12/2010 12:55

Are anyone else having weird dreams?
I have insane dreams at the best of times, but lately they have really gone beyond...

Last night I dreamt that that I missed the birth (I know, hardly something to actually worry about), I got to the hospital and someone just handed me a baby (I wish).

The baby told me to f*ck off, applied for a council flat and left.

Then my boyfriend arrived and got p*ssed off that I'd let the child leave before he could get a picture.

Then we went home.

Hmm

Like I said; I am used to insane dreams, but they are definitely getting weirder.
