Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Dh only came to one of AN appointments, wasn't really necessary. he did come to all the scans though.
When it comes to discussing birth plan and home birth I may bring him along if only because he needs to be on board with the whole home birth plan anyway.

knackered76 · 22/11/2010 20:03

Evening all,
Jasmine - congrats on the scan Grin

Not much going on here, slept this afternoon with my dd which was quite lovely :)

Just told dh that if our baby has mild downs (and by that I mean no other major complications with heart, lungs, brain, etc) then I wouldn't consider terminating as I don't consider it severe enough to warrant that. His reaction was, well there's no point talking about it unless it happens. I happen to agree, just wanted to give him a warning that if he thinks differently he's going to have a fight on his hands Grin To be fair, I don't actually think he has really ever seriously thought about it as we have never had to before.

Moomin - I have had friends both in their 40's having children with no chromosome problems so chances are all will be well :) A 1/200 chance is still only 0.5%, that's pretty small :)

Anyhoo, off to study . . .well once I've found that book I seem to have lost as it's been soooooo long Blush

Mummynumber2 · 22/11/2010 20:19

Congratulations to those who have had good news after scans!

nurse and moomin thanks for your advice about gifts for the nurses. I'll give them the chocolates, a box of fancy tea bags and a card I think. And I must remember to send a photo and another thank you card after baby's born!

Turns out I'll probably be going back there tomorrow anyway as I've had some more bleeding this evening. It's stopped now and wasn't really very much of it but it was bright red. Sad. The midwife said I should go straight to A and E if I have any more red blood but I really don't want to be waiting around for hours if the fertility unit can fit me in tomorrow, which I hope they can. I've had a lot of bleeding already so I'm not too worried but I could really do without the stress to be honest.

8rubberduckies · 22/11/2010 20:19

Hi everyone, found you! We've moved on so quickly... don't feel like I've got much news here. 9+2 weeks today, and symptoms have eased, but not eased enough for me to start panicking luckily Smile.

Lisascat I wouldn't suggest it's necessary for your partner to go along to the booking in, as it's pretty paperwork heavy and quite dull. My partner saved his time off for the scans and antenatal classes. Welcome by the waySmile.

I have decided not to have any further tests regarding downs, as I'm 100% I couldn't go through with an abortion unless the baby was not going to have any quality of life at all, or probably not make it to full term.

8rubberduckies · 22/11/2010 20:21

PS Congratulations those of you with good news r.e. scans Smile

Mummynumber2 · 22/11/2010 20:33

Jasmine as far as I know the risk of downs is the same with ivf. Actually it may be a bit higher but only due to the fact that people who have ivf are often a bit older and I was told that there's a slightly higher risk with twins (I can't find any info about this online though). They're not allowed to screen embryos for abnormalities during the ivf process in the uk for ethical reasons.

knackered Are they able to tell you how badly the baby would be affected by downs during the screening process?

It's such a difficult thing to think about and I'm kind of ducking it as I'm not quite old enough to be offered all the tests. I'm just not going to think about it and hope all is well!

knackered76 · 22/11/2010 20:45

They can look for soft markers (lack of nasal bone being one but not sure of the others) which can indicate but I don't think there is a clear way of knowing how affected a baby will be. It would be much clearer at the 20 week scan when you can look at the organs more closely. My friend's baby had hydrops as well, too much fluid everywhere, as well as a hugely enlarged heart and something else but I can't remember what. It was all picked up at the 12wk scan because it was so obvious. The cvs confirmed downs but it was the physical evidence that was the most compelling. As with any difficulty, the range is huge and I guess there is no way of knowing for sure where on the range your baby might fall just from a diagnosis of downs. I am with 8RD in that a termination for me would only be if the baby would have no quality of life or not make the pregnancy. That was unfortunately the position my friend was in. As with all these things though it's worth remembering that the % are really small, just something else to keep our minds active :)

Further down the line we'll all be talking about delivering placenta's naturally or not Grin

moomin156 · 22/11/2010 21:30

knackered is there a placenta choice. OMG dont scare me, whats that then?????

motherofsnortpigs · 22/11/2010 21:35

nice one knackered Can I throw my cushion down next to you? I've got a big bag of Fox's mints I'm happy to share...

NurseSunshine · 22/11/2010 21:49

Er, what else would one do with the placenta? Leave it in there? Blush I have a lot to learn.

Welcome Liascat I giggled at the thought of you hiding in a cupboard to scoff lunch during Ramadan! Although, did you have to mention pooing in front of strangers??! I'm trying to block that part out.

Congratulations on the scan jasmine Grin

Mummynumber2 you're very kind, the nurses will be chuffed to bits with your present, although I bet the picture of your healthy little baby will be the best present they can get :)

Thanks MrsBigW, best of luck for your scan as well :)

Moomin, I think it's really important to remember that, regardless of age, a chance of something happening is just that - a chance. As my MW said, a risk of 1 in 2 is still only 50/50. If you have a 1:200 chance then out of 200 potential babies only ONE will have problems. The odds are definitely in your favour.

bananarama05 · 22/11/2010 21:58

Congratulations jasmine on the scan!!

NurseS are you as much of a gibbering wreck as me this evening? Won't be able to get on her til 9pm or later tomorrow after work so good luck for tomorrow morning and think of me at lunchtime! x

Moomin on the jeans subject I've become a big fan of jeggings lately, never thought I'd hear myself say it but I'm not too proud to admit it :)

moomin156 · 22/11/2010 22:03

my legs are definitely too fat for Jeggings.....LOL especially as i have just bught some timberland boots ( nice and flat!) as my balance has already gone with no bump. Fell over my own feet 3 times in the shoe shop. DH was nearly wetting himself with my lack of coordination

NurseSunshine · 22/11/2010 22:03

Eeek it's you tomorrow too isn't banana!!! I'm just about to go to bed cuz if I'm asleep then tomorrow will come faster Grin Blush
I'm also going to be on here about 9.30pm cuz of stupid work. So you think of me at 8am and I'll think of you at lunchtime :) GOOOOD LUCK!!!

RE jeans, I am dreading DREADING going maternity jeans shopping. Clothes shopping makes me cry. It is the hardest thing in the WORLD buying jeans that fit me properly, imagine what it'll be like when I've got a xmas turkey stuffed down the front of my pants!

BarbieLovesKen · 22/11/2010 22:22

Moomin either drugs to help expel the placenta or push it out yourself. I remember feeling really p'eed off after just having ds as they told me to start pushing again Grin

Cant really add anything about testing as I think you've already been offered great advice on here and think MrsBigW makes an excellent point. Personally, we've never considered testing as DH and I both agree there are no circumstances in which we would abort so would just be pointless!. Difficult decision for you, particulary when you both have different opinions. Keep us posted.

Mummynumber2 hope the bleeding is well and truely gone, easier said than done, I know but try not to worry.

NurseSunShine the very, very, very, very best of luck tomorrow! am so excited for you!. Will be thinking of you.

13+2 today.

Oooh banana best of luck too!!!

Meant to say, am very Angry that some of you are still in your normal clothes and dont have a bump yet. I have massive, definate baby bump and am in maternity clothes for weeeeeeks!!

Moomin I hate, cant stand, under the bump trousers during pregnancy!! also cant stand anything stopping on (or middle) of my bump, if that makes sense, has to go to top of bump. Then, everyones different cos obviously loads buy the under the bump stuff!

OP posts:
sasamaxx · 22/11/2010 22:37

But Barbie - didn't you feel like it was kid-on pushing. Cuddle lovely new baby - oh yes I'm supposed to push - uuuugggg - and out it plops Grin

Best of luck with scans tomorrow nursesunshine and banana

Saying a prayer everything is OK for you mummynumber2

bananarama05 · 22/11/2010 22:49

Thanks peeps :)

barbie I bought some maternity trousers for work last week online (over bump) but I'm in between a 12 and 14 and they've come up a big 14 and are dead baggy round the legs, otherwise I'd be in them! Plus I'm terrified someone will spot the band at the top and the game will be up!

Still haven't told the parents and struggling to find the right time with my dad sorting my nans funeral but fingers crossed scan is ok tomorow I desperately want to be able to tell anyone and everyone who'll listen! It's my mums birthday on the 2nd so might drop it into coversation then :)

moomin I wouldn't put me, sexy and jeggings in the same sentence! But with a pair of uggs (ie Primani £6 imitation pair) and a long tunic top I think i can just about get away with it and they have enough stretch I don't have to keep contemplating a new pair every 2 weeks!

milliemuffin · 22/11/2010 22:58

Barbie I couldn't agree more on the over bump jeans! My first ever pair of maternity jeans were from Dorothy Perkins, cost £20, had elasticated side panels and a button to do them up in the middle. That was the worst £20 I've ever spent. When I fell pregnant with DD I bought a pair with a totally seamless over bump band from mamasandpapas for £40. Best £40 I ever spent! Wouldn't slept in them if I could!

milliemuffin · 22/11/2010 23:00

*Would've not wouldn't!! Need sleep... Xx

knackered76 · 23/11/2010 08:19

Just a quick good luck for those with scans today :)

Right off to get the children to school .. gym . . .speech therapy . . .(such a relaxing day ahead!)

Motherofsnortpigs - I'll bring the fruit ones to keep our vitamin levels up Grin

jasmine51 · 23/11/2010 08:41

Hi all
Weird night and need some advice. Had a small bleed in early hours - started with a tiny clot, about 2mm diameter, red. Then a bit of red smearing. Now seems to have stopped...am making myself sore with obsessive wiping. I had been straining with constipation late last night but blood definitely came from 'other bits'. Is this significant do you think? Should I tell someone?

Sarahmumtobe · 23/11/2010 08:48

Good luck nurse and banana for your scans-sooooooo exciting!

'moomin' my mum was 45 and dad 46 when they had me. They only had amniocentesis then, no other screening tests, and mum declined. They are now 75 and 76 respectively and are fantastic parents! They are both still very active and do a lot to support all 3 of their children and, so far, 9 grandchildren ( yes one of my sisters has 6 crazy girl! She is also 20 years older than me!) It is a really hard decision to make if they don't offer the combined. I am having the combined and think I probably would pay for it privately if it was not offered, then think about the next step if results were high risk.

supersunny looking back at your posts about toothbrushing-I have been gagging and dry retching (tmi!) for weeks and cannot wait for that to go-ugh!

Sarahmumtobe · 23/11/2010 08:53

Jasmine sorry x posted. I would phone your midwife if it was fresh blood. It will probably be nothing to worry about but think it is a good idea to speak to someone so that you don't worry. In Bath you can self refer to the ep unit for a scan in the first 12 weeks. Did you have a scan yesterday? (sorry so many posts to catch up on) because some people have mentioned a little bleeding after transvaginal scans. Hope this helps and try not to worry.

jasmine51 · 23/11/2010 09:00

sarah thanks. I did have a scan yeserday but it wasnt tv, it was external so no reason for causing a bleed. Ive just spoken to the mw and she told me to ring the EPU..again (they are going to be so fed up with seeing me there). Still have all other symptoms so taking comfort in all that - my other mcs have started with loss of symptoms first. Will phone epu shortly...keeping everything crossed, not sure I could go through yet another mc.

Sarahmumtobe · 23/11/2010 09:21

Jasmine thinking of you. Hope you dh or a friend is around to go with you. You saw your little one yesterday with a heartbeat and although I don't have any previous pregnancy experience there have been a lot of ladies posting about small bleeds and everything has been fine. Take care.
