Due July 2011?

Just got my BFP this morning and so excited! Managed this conception while DH was out of the country so very chuffed that it worked! Already have two DS, one who is 3.2 and an August birthday and one who is 16 months and a June birthday so bring on the Summer parties!

Have never been part of an antenatal club on here before but as this is planned to be my last pregnancy am hoping to find some other July mums to share the journey with (although know I am very early!) Am already worrying how the birth will go as DS2 was born unexpectedly in the kitchen after a 90 min labour with the midwife only just there to catch him, so am a bit worried if subsequent labours are supposed to go quicker whether I will have anyone with me for this one, but at least I have a while to go yet!

Inbetweener, we're waiting for the scan before we tell anyone too. I've got a scan next week when I should be at least 10 weeks, so if that goes ok we're hoping to tell family at Christmas. In answer to your question about taking medication, I've taken paracetamol whenever I've had a headache, about 3 times so far I think.

buttonmoon I love the photo frame idea. Does anyone else have any ideas for telling the grandparents? This will be the first grandchild for both sets of parents. I'm thinking of giving them a "Nan and Grandad" christmas card with the scan picture inside, but I'm not sure, we'll probably just end up telling them!

hollin · 17/12/2010 13:07

love the card idea hefner

my first was my mum and dads first grandchild and mum still says it was really special when we told them!!

had my scan this morning, all went very well. Little heart beating away and Down's risk went down from the age-related 1 in 110 to a much nicer 1 in 5000 after the nuchal fold/nasal bone/blood test measurements, so feeling very happy about that.

cara and sues: yes, i feel more worried this time (3rd pg) than first time too. i think it's because i'm more aware of what might happen, and also have some friends who've had problems in the last year or two. but feeling better after scan.

buttonmoon & hefner, lovely way to tell grandparents. we are going to tell them at xmas too. the last 2 times i have told my parents in a rather roundabout way, and they didn't actually understand what i'd said! i think i will go for the scan picture in an xmas card idea. not that my dad will make any sense of the blizzard-in-a-snowstorm picture.

stangirl, i think my sickness has been worse this time - tho perhaps partly because i'm getting less sleep than previous times (DS2 teething/cold/tonsillitis). Starting to ease off a bit now (11 weeks), haven't actually thrown up for a couple of days tho still nauseous. I think the last times it got quite a bit better at 12 weeks and was gone by 14.

glad to see there's another couple of 40+ mums in the mix!

oh, and by the way, sues, just read your post about nuchal fold screening in n. yorkshire. Just had mine at the Leeds Screening Centre, which was expensive (£190) but very good. It was their Addmark test which is much more accurate (98%) than the NHS test (60%) and the sonographer was really expert - in my previous scans (both in London) they faffed about a bit finding the right bits of the baby, but she went straight to it and knew exactly what she was looking at and explained it very clearly. So, it all depends on your circumstances, but if you can afford it, I would recommend them.

Ivegotmrbitey · 17/12/2010 13:31

Good news wolfhound! We told my parents and husband's immediate family as soon as we found out. My best friends guessed when I said no to a drink so a few people know. we decided that these would be the people we wanted to support us if it went wrong so it felt right to tell them. Bitterly dissapointed in BILs reaction though, he didn't congratulate us and after a very awkward phone call I prompted him and he said he wouldn't be congratulating us until after twelve weeks, reeled off a lot of very unpleasant statistics and concluded with how upset HE'd been when their sister had had an eptopic pregnancy terminated. He has since tried to argue with me about it in a Christmas party in front of mutual friends who don't know I'm pregnant and he cannot understand why I think it was a disgusting thing to say to a newly pregnant (and very nervous) woman. or maybe I'm being a princess? Was thinking about posting this in AIBU but actually don't what the flaming when I feel this emotional and I think the whole subject is prety distasteful. Angry

So I suppose my point is, if you have any arsehole's in your immedaite family think long and hard about telling them!

Ivegotmrbitey · 17/12/2010 13:32

Apologies for spelling, typos and appalling punctuation in the that post Blush

hefner · 17/12/2010 13:44

That's awful mrbitey, I can't believe your BIL was so insensitive. I don't understand why people feel the need to reel off horrible stats to pregnant women - as if we're not nervous enough already!

hollin · 17/12/2010 13:44

hi wolfhound sorry hope you dont mind me asking

I am 38 and have said I would like a nuchal test etc, just noticed you put that NHS is only 60% accurate was going to pay for one but thought with them offering one would go for it, do you mind me asking how you know the accurices etc, might rethink!!!

We are in Leeds also

Smiler80 · 17/12/2010 15:33

mrbitey perhaps your BIL is just trying to stop himself from getting too excited as he's scared of MC like we are? Although I agree that even then there's no need to reel off the stats and certainly not argue about it in front of other people!

My mum actually doesn't want to congratulate us until 12 weeks (next week!!) - she's had a few miscarriages herself and this being her first (possible) grandchild she is extremely keen on it going well. She's lovely though and would never rub my face in all the things that can go wrong - I can do that myself thank you very much! Xmas Smile

Ivegotmrbitey · 17/12/2010 17:27

Maybe smiler but it does drive me crackers the way everything has to be about him. He's 40, lives alone and has never had a long term partner (or even a short term PG partner) so I am also quite intrigued as to where he got his statistics from!

Sorry for ranting - he's a bit of knob about most thing and I have taken this one to heart, he's taken the shine off things a bit for us and I don't want him to have any further involvement until the baby is safely born!

nicolamumof3 · 17/12/2010 18:12

evening all..

has anyone been offered flu jab yet?

hollin · 17/12/2010 18:59

hi

nicolamumof3

not been offered it yet saw my mw last fri and never mentioned it, will ask at my next app but if I hear of peaople coming down with it in our area will go and ask

what about u?

xxxx

Icklelilly · 17/12/2010 19:13

That's crap mrbitey, some people dont know when to keep their opinions to themselves. It would particularly wind me up too if it was a family member! I agree, what a knob! Clearly not one of those supportive types and certainly doesnt deserve to be 'kept in the loop'. I'd write him off as godfather material too - not sure I'd want him anywhere near my precious bundle!

Apologies if above is vitriolic - have stinking cold, haven't slept properly for a couple of days, think it might be flu and wish I hadn't hummed and hahed about having the jab when offered it a couple of weeks ago - now have mine on Monday but nurse has also said she may not give it if I still had a fever then. Don't hesitate nicolamumof3 - take the jab.....before its too late!

....and wheeze breathe

Actually, I didnt read up on whether jab good or bad mumof3 so I shouldn't really comment. Me wanting the jab now is knee jerk reaction to feeling really REALLY poo... back to the vicks vapour rub(being the only thing the pharmacist said she could let me have without prescription! At least she could sympathise - she had a lovely large almighty bump herself!!)

Smiler80 · 17/12/2010 19:24

Hi nicolamumof3 - I had the flu jab on my very first GP appointment at 4+something weeks. She said it was just as safe in pregnancy as for other people. I had no side effects from it whatsoever, although it is not uncommon to feel slightly off for a day or so and perhaps have a sore arm for a couple of days.

nicolamumof3 · 17/12/2010 19:57

I had to see nurse today for my booking in bloods as midwife couldn't get any blood last week as I was so dehydrated!! Anyway as I'd mentioned how rough I'd been wit ms she booked me in then and there for next week.

nicolamumof3 · 17/12/2010 19:58

Ovoid hope you feel better soon it's no fun being I'll when pg seems to take forever to get over

ZuluWarrior · 17/12/2010 20:09

Things I have HAD to eat this week:

Sushi
Egg foo yung
Baked potato and cheese
Smoked salmon (A whole packet. In the supermarket car park Xmas Blush.)

Doesn't pregnancy do crazy things? Just as well I can barely look at food the rest of the time otherwise I'd be as big as a house.

Hope you all start to feel better as the 2nd trimester approaches....

MissLolita · 17/12/2010 20:27

Hi all, Wolfhound, great news on scan, mrbitey, I suspect you BIL means well but is distinctly lacking in tact!

Cara, I'm pleased I'm not the only one! :) I told my colleagues today and as I expected one of them immediately said "oh I see, you've got your big promotion and now you're buggering off on a year's maternity leave". Everyone else just looked embarrassed and said lovely things which made me feel a bit better and of course I was expecting this reaction so it didn't totally catch me by surprise. I know that the guy who said it is just old school and thinks that pregnancy is a hazard of hiring people "like me" so I'm not going to let it get me down too much. I should add that he has 2 children!!
Anyway, my boss had obviously got me as 'secret santa' and he had bought me a new-born suitable teddy and a baby book which was really lovely of him. the only other person who knew had my boss as her santa (if that makes sense) so it had to be him!

Hope you are all doing ok x

cara2244 · 17/12/2010 20:30

Well, found out today that mil has told various people I am pregnant, even though I said to keep it to herself and she knows I don't even have a scan date yet!!!
Managed to clean the bathrooms, walk dogs and put online shop away....and then was completely wiped out all afternoon and threw up a sandwich. Lovely. It is LO's 2nd birthday tomorrow so we have friends and rellies coming and I have to make food. Aaargh! May just take to bed and hope nobody notices.

cara2244 · 17/12/2010 20:36

Zuluwarrior I have a smoked salmon thing too. Last time it was mini babybells but I can't even look at one normally. Pregnancy is the only time in my life I am ever fussy about food.

Lolita at least most were supportive. When I came back from maternity leave, one of our assistant heads made a nasty comment about how much maternity pay I had got (do they not realise how much is smp?) And I walked out of the office! Really pissed me off. You work double hard when you're a mummy because you don't want anyone to think you can't do your job, plus you're bringing a new life in the world and trying to raise them properly, unlike half the poor little mites at our school! Sorry, rant over. That made me feel better momentarily!!

emmywoo · 17/12/2010 20:46

Hi All,
I have stinking cold and it has turned into a dreadful cough, keep thinking I am going to cough been out!!!!!

Has anyone got any magical cures for tickly constant hacking cough. xxxxxx

Ivegotmrbitey · 17/12/2010 21:08

Hi emmywoo make sure you get lots and lots of fluids down you. I'm drinking tescos blackcurrant and apple fruit tea which tastes a bit like blackcurrant lemsip and seems to be having a placembo effect!

missL your boss sounds lovely!
