Thanks for the advice. Hope i'm not going to be some obsessive type over baby or some sort of control freak - I think as you've said, just think every little decision is so special.

Tex - Portrait sounds fab, I'd really like to do the belly casting thing and I think it's something I can do at home. Will look into it.

Some of you (excluding Rodeo who will most probably be our first) have only 5 weeks to go right? WOW!

No sign of CADS?

novadandypowder · 25/09/2005 20:33

ahhhh - it can't be 41 days? It doesn't sound that long when you put it like that!!! Well done on the list Chacha .

I've had a really piggy day today. Had chocolate croissant for breakfast, went out for roast lamb lunch which was followed by a scone with clotted cream and jam, which was then followed by some cadburys mini variety - yummy. Think it'll have to be left over chili now...

Had a bit of excitement at lunch, Damon Albarn came in and sat at the table right behind me. I think he's so yummy .

Bob, I don't think raspberry leaf is supposed to be taken before 36 wks, maybe even later. If in doubt post on the pregnancy thread.

Went to see Harry Hill tonight, he's recording his latest show for DVD. It's about the 4th time I've seen it but it kills me every time . Baby certainly got a good shaking from all the laughter.

ChaCha · 26/09/2005 02:08

Guess who can't sleep again!

Nova - Had to google who Damon Albarn was and then recognised him. Am not so good with names anymore especially those of which are celebrities. I imagine that you see quite a few famous types in your neck of the woods - I saw loads when I went to school there especially jogging through Holland Park (celebs not me).
Saw the guy who plays Dennis from Eastenders on Edgeware Road a while back, we were all standing a the traffic lights heading to the car park. When i recognised him i nudged DH saying 'Look..it's what's his name..Sharon's brother!' He actually heard me and scampered to his car!!! How shameful, hee hee!!

Right then...wonder if i'll be up until sunrise again! pooooh

Enthusia · 26/09/2005 07:44

Morning all

Not a great nights sleep last night - think 3rd trimester is now catching up with me. My hips really hurt, not like SPD pain where it is at the front of the pelvis this is both sides of my bum, really painful at night and when I first wake up and try and move around, I feel like an old lady!!!! I now have to go to the loo and change positions every hour and am not enjoying it, however, unlike you ChaCha I am dead to the world once in my new position - couldn't bear not to be sleeping!!!!!

Bubs is really moving around at the mo, yesterday we were playing a game of 'guess the limb' and then 'find the limb' it kept on sticking something out, then we would push it and it would move it back and then push it back out again, was really sweet!!!!!

Decided to do some of the last bits in the nursery yesterday so put up some lovely dragonfly lights/mobile I got from Ikea, above the cot and finished putting animal handles on the wardrobe I repainted. Then decided I better have a fiddle with the pram to make sure I knew how to use it. Bloody hell, that was not easy - anyone else with the Jane struggling with it at first! Think I have it now, but am going to try and get it down to a t, then try one handed. There are just so many parts!!!! Came back later to find DH playing with imaginary baby in pram though, so that was all worth it.

NCT on Saturday was brilliant again, although from my own research and MN I did know most of the bits - however they go over the emotional side of it all which is excellent. DH really understood from the course how I and other women may feel about an emergency c-section etc, and how this differed from his own and the other men's views!

This time we did all the different pain reliefs, c-sections, special care babies, how to change a nappy and how to bath a baby. The nappy bit was excellent. I knew DH could already change a nappy and is actually a dab hand at it but we got the chance to try out all the other reusuable nappies there are about, including folding our own terry ones, OMG - how did people use them all the time!!!! Think we all decided to opt for disposable - at least to start with, none of us are going to use terry ones and a few may try the Kushie kind - although our NCT teaher did say that reusables actually leak more than disposables but that reusables can be better by helping children know when they are wet, so helping with potty training, and apparently there has been some research into dispoables and they are finding some correlation between them and male infertility (something to do with the heat of the testicles). Think I will definitely start with disposables, look into the biodegradable ones and maybe some of the reusable ones later.

The course really made me think of having a home birth. There were a few things about hospital births that I didn't realise, such as if you give birth outside of visiting hours your DP can only stay until you are moved to a ward - about half an hour after the birth, then he is kicked out!!! Really didn't like this idea, also decided I didn't like the idea of staying on a ward after hearing some experiences and situations that we shared. Am now confused though as had NEVER contemplated a home birth before. DH would prefer a hospital birth, but is willing to look into it. My MW never mentioned any other options other than a hospital birth and I just don't know whether I would get their support. Also worried about noraml things with homebirths - such as what if something goes wrong, although we only live 10 mins (if that) from the hospital.

The thought of being relaxed, using your hired birth pool (not fighting over one), DH staying with me through everything, being able to completely relax afterwards and enjoy a takeaway etc, sleeping in my own bed, getting into something of a routine straight away and generally having the birth that I want really appeals, but I am a little nervous, anyone got any views on the matter!!!!

Anyway enough of my ramblings!!!!

ChaCha - well done on the list, I don't know 47 days seems like quite a lot to me!!!!! Hope you got back to sleep by the way!!!

Tex - lovely to hear from you again, please keep up the posting it is great to hear all your news!!!

Right sorry if I missed you out, but need to relieve myself and have a drink.

Back later

Morning ladies!

Enthusia, loving your mega posts at the mo!! They're brill! Can't believe your dh can't stay outside visiting hours!! At out hospital, partners can stay or visit whenever esp. just after delivery! I get really homesick and teary in hospital and got to go home 3 days after section last time, which I will hope for this time too. Fingers crossed!

I'm also getting the SPD type pain too. Esp in bed or if I've been in one position on the sofa too long! Even got up at half 2 last night to have a hot bath, although should have come on here to join you Chacha! Although I had to get the hoover out to suck up a daddy-long-legs out of the bath first! Urgh!! They really freak me out - cannot stand them whatsoever!

Went to a 30th party on Saturday, and my friends husband (who is also a neighbour) told me he didn't realise I as pg!! But he's always waving to me in the street! He said that maybe he's just concentrating on the beauty that is my face! Haha! He'd had a few drinks though, but it did cheer me up (even if he was talking complete cr*p! )

Talking of doing the deed whenever me and dp try, which is getting more difficult TBH, the baby always wakes up and starts thrashing around which is very off-putting! Go back to sleep baby!!

Started to read Baby names book again last night (which I really shouldn't have done as I am the most bloody indecisive person) now I'm all confused again when I thought we'd decided! Argh!

2nd lot of Boots vouchers Twinkle , that really isn't fair!!

Brill idea to start a countdown now!! WIll get my date when I go to my last growth scan tomorrow so will let you all know! Sooo.....

2 weeks and 2 days (ish?) to go x x x

novadandypowder · 26/09/2005 12:22

rodeo, i've read through a couple of name books that we've had free with mags lately and they're full of outrageous names that you would never give your child.

enthusia, my main fear of a home birth is that you're limited to gas and air for pain relief. You should go for it if you want it, there's lots of support for it on here...

has anyone else had their hair coloured? I was growing out the colour on mine but having looked at all the old pictures i realised how much i liked it black so want to do it again. Is it very naughty??

BEKsmum · 26/09/2005 12:22

Afternoon girls,

Woke up at 5:15 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so ended up started a spring clean on the kitchen, emptyign all the cupboards etc - now to knackered to finish it - ho hum!!!

Dh woke up in a panic wondering where the hell I'd got to & Ben came bumping down the stairs yelling mummy, 'cos I wasn't in bed where he expected me to be - I think he thought we'd left him!!! Not a bad idea considering what a little monkey he's being at the moment

Enthusia I have exactly the same sort of pain as you, it's bloody annoying isn't it? I find I stand up and then think oh I don't want to move it's gonna hurt!!!

Blimey Chacha that list's organised, I'm very impressed - 49 days to go for me how frightening! I keep thinking that it could be as little as 4 weeks for me if I go early like I did with Ben, that I am definitely not ready for, but looking at my ankles it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Well I suppose I'd better go and clear up the mess I've made before having to pick up Ben from School.

Going to see the labour ward tonight just to frighten myself a bit more, speak to yuo all later Beks (33+1)

LilJ · 26/09/2005 13:36

Hi everyone.

Had a lovely relaxing weekend which is good as this week could get nasty! Had a great birthday dinner on Friday and got lots of pressies for the baby and me. Started to pack my hospital bag - just need to wash the baby clothes and new breast-feeding friendly nighties and I'm pretty much ready to go. Nursing bras will have to wait until 36 weeks as I do still seem to be getting bigger.

Feeling very big now and full up - can't imagine how much bigger I can get! Baby still squirming about all the time - I have a feeling this one's going to be an attention-seeker!

Nova - they say that dying your hair during pregnancy is fine these days, but probably best to stick to the natural non-permanent dyes - better for your hair as well! I'm thinking about getting my hair cut short as it is much more manageable. But I can never get just a haircut - I always have to colour it or get highlights, something more exciting than just a haircut. Probably won't do anything as running out of time!

ChaCha · 26/09/2005 13:53

Enthusia - If only you'd posted that last night! It would have made some welcome bedtime reading. I eventually got back to sleep at around 3.30am thanks to massage and much needed paracetemol. Have also been suffering from the exact same pains as you and have to keep clutching my bum (not a very nice thought for you but never mind) and trying to comfy myself around the grobag! Baby really does some kung-fu fighting lately , had to stop dead in my tracks in town with a deep intake of air followed by sit down. It can really hurt!
Funny that you mentioned the Jane, DH and I have been trying to work ours out since returning home and managed to do what we can without manual. I was LOL at your DH with pretend baby, how sweet!
As for your wanting a homebirth, if it's what you want, it should be encouraged and I hope you get it. Your hospital sounds pants TBH and it's a case of whatever makes YOU comfortable isn't it? I think we are going to do our tour on Thursday and we will be booking an amenity room if the need arises so not really bothered about anything.

Twinkle - Hope everything went well at the Physio!

Nova - Why don't you put a post under Pregnancy about hair dye? I remember reading something about it being harmful but perhaps that was first trimester only, I can't remember.

Rodeo & Beks -
I'm I the only saddo that like the JCB song?

Still no Boots vouchers here

Oh....went to the Body Shop for some hospital goodies and got the travel size Papaya stuff and a matching bath brush, just need to find an orange toiletry bag now Got loads of bits in Boots as well and feeling like i'm going on holiday!!! LOL.

Right, think i've done enough chat on here - time to eat x

Enthusia · 26/09/2005 14:10

Hiya all

I am less worried about the whole birth thing than I was earlier - and this is after finding out that my hospital is short staffed, has a high c-section rating and a very high epidural rating. Through a thread I posted on this in Childbirth I have been in contact with a doula and am now thinking of hiring one as an option inbetween a homebirth and a hospital birth. It just sounds as if that way I would get cared for, plus the kind of birth I want, even if I am in hospital - which would also be a preference for DH. Doulas are not as expensive as I though either and my parents said that they wanted to give us the money instead of buying baby bits (DH bought a very snazzy and expensive watch) so I thought I might use some of this money to pay for it. I mean if it can but me a better memory and experience of birth then so be it!!!!!!!

ChaCha - Glad you found your toiletries - nothing lavendar in there then??????? Shall I post a really long post just before bedtime in future, knowing me just trying to get through it would whittle away quite a bit of time in the early morning!

Beksmum - this isn't the first stage of labour for you is it, ie. frantic nesting!!!!!!

LilJ - Hope this week suprises you and is not as hellish as you think it might be. Oh and happy birthday for last week, I don't think I mentioned it before

rodeo1 · 26/09/2005 14:17

Having a lazy afternoon, me and ds are eating peanut butter out of the jar and watching Scooby-doo, even though I know I should be doing something constuctive!

Nova, There are some awful names in these baby name books, and also other people keep suggesting the most hideous names to me which always sound made up! I really don't like these pretend Irish names (like Kian) and the awful American names like Bailey or Logan or Preston (Haha Britney!) Sorry if I've just offended loads of posters in one swoop!!

Got my Bravado bras this morning and dp came in on me trying them on and got flashed at! They're not too hideous actually!

Enthusia, just read your post in Childbirth and it seems you may have a fight on your hands which is cr*p. Would it be poss for you to hire an independent MW? You should try and discuss it with your community MW asap. But if its what you want then you should get one IMO. You'll have to butter up your dh too. I always think HB's sound great and would be my ideal scenario too

Right better go ds has just announced he's going to play with sponges upstairs (gulp!) I'd better follow him!

rodeo1 · 26/09/2005 14:20

Ooh Enthusia, you've just answered my question. Sounds brill, I would definitely go for it if I were you! Esp. as you're so close to the hospital. Good luck!!

I'd better go before the bathroom gets saturated!!

twinkle1 · 26/09/2005 15:02

tell u all what that boots stuff is good. I have used the bag to put all my baby stuff into for the hosp.At least this way mine and sprouts stuff will be seperate,i remember very clearly last time post c/section riffling through bag trying to find clean baby grow at 2am with dimmed lights not a great experience!!!!
I wish i new if i was having a girl or a boy????
Tesco have some really cute all in ones but they are either pink or blue no neutral
Ah well it will be a surprise.I go to the hosp to see the consultant next week so i should get my section date,i think it will be around 5-10 nov arghhhhh that means i only have about 42 days to go!! must decorate, clean do diy, tidy up.Must learn out to chill out

ChaCha · 26/09/2005 15:04

Peanut butter - yum!

I didn't really know what a doula was all about but have just done some research - seems like a great idea.
My friend is a m/w and will be with me throughout so I'm not too worried, she works at the hospital too so I feel confident that i'll be looked after. I can see why a doula would be beneficial in other cases - really great idea!
Don't worry too much Enthusia, I think you should just go with the flow and do what feels best. If you feel comfortable with doula etc.. go for it! DH refused me a homebirth point blank! He went white, green then red at the prospect, he hee!

Soooo tired but am scared to sleep in case this gives me insomnia again tonight..will try to hold out. Who bloody mentioned peanut butter!! I NEED!

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 15:07

hi all!
i've been panicking today..seems i remember something to add to my list every day, and we are fast running out of funds. Fortunately my aunt has loads of elle mcphereson nursing bras in a size up from my current one, so i am hoping they will fit me. a lot of other family have offered to get us various bits as early christams presents too which will be nice..and beats the usual boots and body shop gift sets we usually get..hehee
I know what you mean about the baby name books, we got a free one this month and it's full of crazy names..'flan' was our personal favourite for the mirth factor..teeheee
Had a shock last night too and realised I need to give DP some intensive lessons in childbirth. he has been reading my books but I don't think it;'s sinking in.
we were talking about my birth plan, and i mentioned I was unsure as to if I should have the injection to speed up the placenta delivery. He looked really confused..turns out he thought the placenta and umbilical cord were the same thing! nooooo
good job I got to tell him before the birth though, as he'd probably have passed out assuming i was haemoraghing my liver or something..hahaha
with this in mind..am i right in remebering some of you are doing the nct classes? There are still spaces available near us, but i'm not sure it will be any better than our (rubbish) nhs ones. We can't afford to cdo it unless it will be really useful, so any advice is appreciated.
Hooray for lazy days! I've spent mine watching junk tv and reading through old pregnancy mags, eating lots of strawberries, and pints of chocolate nesquick, which is my new addiction..yum...
Nova- my hairdresser said that the dye won't be harmful, it's generally only bleaching that they advise against, but apparantly your hair can react differetntly during pregnancy. I'm tempted too..my hair is a washed out brown now and it's driving me mad..

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 15:11

oooh..and forgot to say..i too have been having restless nights..I sleep much better during the day for some reason..next time I'll have to come on here and check if anyone else is the same...

babyonboard · 26/09/2005 15:15

Oooh..and enthusia -
i'm really impressed you are prepared to fight for the birth you want. I quite like the idea too, but must say i'm personally a little nervous, having not done it before - probably silly, but maybe you are braver than me!
My midwife snubbed the idea anyway, she said she wouldn't support it with a first baby, and as we have three flights of stairs to our flat it would be too risky medically..all rubbish I'm sure. I hope things work out for you!.
My aunt had a doula for her second two babies and said it was great to have an expert there that you know, rather than various midwives and doctors popping in and out and no realy continuity.
