Gestational diabetes confirmed for me - I'm now on a bloody diet..................

novadandypowder · 20/09/2005 11:44

Boo to gestational diabetes Goldenoldie .

Beksmum, it was an empire line dress so no squeezing

Sat at the vets for 45 mins waiting to be seen again - I now have two cats on tablets, and one of those is on 3 tablets a day! It's a good job cats are so easy to give tablets to - not.

Sorry you're feeling so boo Busy. I don't have any friends nearby either, most of the time i'm ok about it, but occasionally I feel like I'm missing out. Having a rare friend visit day today although I'm running late as have had to wait at the vets this morning.

xx

Hello again, I really should be doing something other than sitting here, but Ben is having his lunch before we go to Microsports, so thought I'd see what everyone was up to.

Rodeo, you make me laugh, I'm like this with the baby stuff, I just can't seem to get myself motivated. I did manage to iron all of Ben's clothes and the washed baby clothes on Sunday night and was just left thinking - damn this is gonna take ages when we've got two

Chacha, yep I remember Neneh Cherry and there's an advert out at the moment with the two princes song in it & that reminds me of when I met my dh as it was playing all the time then - frightening to think it was 12 years ago!

Goldenoldie, yah boo sucks to the diet & the diabetes hun, as if you haven't got enough to deal with with two of them in there!

Busy sounds like you're having a rough time, hope little Alex is on the mend soon & gets back into his normal routine. Where do these tearful times come from they just appear out of no where don't they. Why don't you tell your dp what you think of his mates - you can get away with it at the moment just blame it on being hormonal

Am off out to a mates for a girls night in playing scrabble & eating pizza tonight as we're all too skint to go out properly.

Right I'm off to scare myself with stories of how quickly a 2nd labour is as that's really playing on my mind at the moment, speak to you all later Beks.

kate7 · 20/09/2005 13:00

thanks to all of you for your warm welcome!! In answer to the various queries, this is my second preg, already have 6 yr old daughter (who is in perfect health). This one is another girl, (very handy as we have kept everything!!!) I'm based in the East Mids so thanx v much for the invite to the get together but will have to decline. The anomaly scan at 20 wks initially seemed to show a problem, but at a follow up two days later and then another two weeks later we were told all was well, only to have the original diagnosis confirmed at 30 weeks, which was a hell of an emotional roller coaster to be on all that time. The ACC can only be fully diagnosed by MRI apparently as it is very hard to see on ultrasound, hence the confusion. Also, as it may or may not be accompanied by other problems, prognosis is very uncertain, best case scenario is it is isolated and can often then be a minor problem, worst case it can mean serious mental and physical problems. It's so awful just having to wait and see, esp as my amniotic fluid levels are very low so Ive been advised an amnio is not really an option now, so we can do nothing but wait and hope. Its so hard trying to keep everything normal for our daughter too, who is so excited to be finally getting a sister!!! Anyway, many thanks to you all for your various messages, and I look forward to keeping in touch from here.

Diddle · 20/09/2005 14:23

chacha - hi thanks for popping over, unfortunatly i am still on the ttc thread, no joy yet, my cycle has started getting longer for some reason 43 days this month, very weird, but i ahve my hopes high for October testing so fingers crossed.. all is well apart from that thank you, keeping very busy, childminding is going well and i'm almost full. Family life is great, just wish there were more hours in the day. Hope you're doing ok.

Hope everyone on here is doing well and getting nice and fat in the nicest possible way. can't believe how close it is getting to Nov already.

ChaCha · 20/09/2005 15:25

Hiya Diddle,

Fingers crossed for October then!! Glad all is well with you and thanks for sharing your news

Beks - Two princes? Is that the one 'If you want to call me baby..just go ahead now...' What a trip down memory lane, LOL!
We must be the same age, must check stats.

looks like i'm going to be off work again tomorrow with this stinking cold grrrrr
when is the london meet? is it a weekday again? if it is, sorry wont be able to make it, i'm still working till mid october.
Kate, hope everything works out for you, it must be a real emotional rollercoaster right now :::hugs:::

got more baby stuffs today, sterilizing kit and bottles, some clothes and another pillow for moi!

Hope everyone is feeling ok

xxxx

novadandypowder · 20/09/2005 18:39

Twinkle I can definitly recommend a cleaner, although I may complain about ours I don't know what I'd do without her at the mo, it's very difficult to keep a house clean with 3 cats, a DH, and a bump.

Sorry you won't be able to join us pinkminx, do you reckon we'd all make it in mid-october? I've written off doing anything in october so far, although I suppose I should try and organise a birthday meet up with my girlies before the baby comes...

Beksmum, scrabble and pizza sounds like a much better evening than going out . DH and I take scrabble with us whenever we go on holiday and we've spent many a tense night seeking out the triple word scores. I've actually been known to stop talking to him after he's beaten me - I'm a sore loser. We have the deluxe edition at home which we get out a xmas, oh the humour of seeing your MIL put 'anal' on the board .

Had a good afternoon with friend. Her baby is 6 months old now and he's gotten soooo big. The only way she can seem to settle him at the mo is to go out walking so we've been trekking around the park all afternoon and I'm knackered. Think I'll spend the evening curled up on the sofa as DH is out working.

pinkminx79 · 20/09/2005 18:55

maybe in Oct, that would be cool! Maybe you guys can come to Richmond or something, its nice this end of the world. I'm planning on leaving work on the 14th, but need to see if the jobcentre will organise my maternity pay grrrrr

xxxxx

BEKsmum · 20/09/2005 19:14

Chacha, correct & that was your starter for 10!!! As we are so close in age I wonder if your group of friends were into jumping around to the likes of Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come On Eileen" etc like we were, for some reason it became our 6th form anthem!

Nova, lol I'm more likely to cheat than stop talking to my dh - I agree with being a sore loser too. I reckon dh only beats me 'cos he was privately educated anyway My mil is fiercly competitive when it comes to Scrabble so I avoid playing her whereever possible - too scary!!!

Diddle nice to see you on here hun & glad to hear you're doing ok. Have you heard from Hellkat lately?

Right got to go as the girls have turned up for me to chauffuer, speak to you all tomorrow. Beks

karmamother · 20/09/2005 19:32

Hi all, just catching up with all the posts. I'm getting quite excited about the impending birth from reading them!

Goldenoldie - we're in the same boat now! My GD was diagnosed last Wednesday, I got my testing kit last Friday so I've had a bit of time to get used to it. I'm still waiting to see the dietician, though. Hopefully she can give me more advice than the Diabetes nurse could. I work with a guy who has insulin-dependant diabetes & was chatting to him about it. In his opinion, diabetic nurses all seem to be a bit clueless!! When I went to see her, I fired all these questions at her only to find she couldn't answer most of them. She seemed a bit irritated at one point & I got the impression she only wanted to show me how to use the machine (which I already know about.)

Anyway, I've managed to keep my sugars down but mainly by eating not much carb at all! I'm absolutely bloody starving!!I do have bran flakes for breakfast which I don't mind. The thing to remember is if you are having carbs, make it as high in fibre as you can as this slows down the rate your blood sugar rises afterwards.

I'd be interested to hear what advice you're given & how you're managing. I've decided that I'll do all that I can to avoid insulin - it's bad enough pricking my finger 3 times a day. By the way, what was the result of your glucose tolerance test?

Neneh Cherry? God, I wish I looked as good as she did when she was strutting her stuff, heavily pregnant, on TOTP!

ChaCha · 20/09/2005 19:44

Beks - Have a great evening! I remember Dexy's midnight runners well, in fact, there was an 80's music post on MN not so long ago which was just too nostalgic. I actually used to sing 'Come on Eileen, you mean everything,
What's your address, Oh i need your address, oh come on Eileen'
We won a dancing competition in youth club for 'Get into the groove'..claim to fame, lol.

Pinkminx - Sorry to hear you're still feeling under the weather. Although it's not much fun sat at home when poorly try to enjoy the rest and another day off work

Nova - Have a quiet and relaxing evening, planning one myself. I too like scrabble but have been playing monopoly as of late and also hate losing . Had to keep a reserve wad of 100's discreetly tucked away to dip into when the occasion arose the other night as DH was killing me with hotels all over the yellows!! He he! Very naughty. How are your feline friends btw?

Diddle · 20/09/2005 20:11

beksmum - speaK to hellkat most days, shes having a rough time with her endo, but is still ttc. xena and cp3 post on the ttc after a m/c thread too.

pinkminx79 · 20/09/2005 20:32

thanks, i'll try. its nice to be off work, but i'd rather be at work than feel like this!

dp wants me to play games with him later, who's the baby???

xxx

ChaCha · 20/09/2005 20:46

Depends what kind of games he wants to play LOL.

novadandypowder · 20/09/2005 20:51

thanks chacha, although my intention to relax turned into cleaning the cats room. It's taken me an hour and a half to clean and hoover it (It's not big just very hairy - lol). A once over with the febreeze and it's all fresh and gleaming. Must get hairless cats next time .

The boys are ok - one has an ulcerated tail from a bite wound, one has a cut above it's eye, one is filthy from rolling in dirt, and the kitten has just finished her worming course. Thanks for asking .

I have strange visions of you in fingerless lace gloves dancing to Get into the Groove now....

pinkminx79 · 20/09/2005 20:52

hehe its a star wars game

i have fingerless lace gloves! I loved Madonna in the 80's

xx

goldenoldie · 21/09/2005 07:58

Karma - the 1hr test was over 10, the fasting was 5, and the two hour test was 9. Collect my kit and see diabetic midwife next week and see dietician the week after.

Had a headache for the last 5 days - troed paracetamol, but that only shifts it for a couple of hours and it comes back.

Enthusia · 21/09/2005 08:05

Morning all

Well another successful shopping trip completed!!!! Southend covered!!!!

Have you all joined Boots Baby club? They are sending out vouchers at the mo and yesterday I got; a Huggies changing bag (which is actually good quality and not to promotional and said to retail at £20),bottle of baby shampoo, baby wipes, soft toy, Avent bottle, loads of Avent samples, Avents dummy, Avent cup, 2 bottles of sun cream (should be £7), and a No7 radiance cream (should be £15)all free!!! Well sort of free I had to spend £1.50 on a promotional pack of Huggies nappies! Also got the Avent indulgence cream for only £2. Unfortunately Boots was the first shop I went to and then had to carry the stuff around all day - very heavy!!!!

Also bought a £1 top and tail bowl - can't see why these are normally £5+, 2 fitted cot sheets for a fiver and a kingsize bed mattress protector (as ordered to buy by midwife) for a fiver!

Oh and for me some of those gorgeous Christmas smelling air freshners, I love them so much, makes me feel all warm snuggly and relaxed! So all in all I feel I had an excellent day!!!! Absolutely knackered by the end though, but this exercise must be good for me!

Diddle - great to hear from you, glad you are well and am keeping everything crossed for October

Goldenoldie - sorry to hear about the diabetes, is the diet quite strict?

Nova - I was really worried about giving my cat tablets a little while ago as it is usually a real struggle involving at least 2 people, a towel, a tablet giver and a jar of marmite, but since being on this diet she sees anything as food and just ate them up - then asked for more!!!! Hope yours go that easily!!!

Busy - I am worried about moving to Essex for just the reason you explained, I don't know anyone there at all. Any hope of meeting some nice mums etc at baby and toddler groups etc, that is what I am counting on!

I have a question, don't know if any of you will be able to help though, although I think it is Beksmum who is in HR isn't it? Anyway, my DH has recently been informed by new company (only started in August) that his division has just taken on 3 more sites that need covering by his role. These sites are in Manchester and Liverpool. DH, when offered the job, was offered it in different areas but chose (and was advised by HR to choose) the role in Essex as it was smaller - he could build himself up as this was a new role for him - and close together - which meant he would have more time to spend with his new family. The other directors even told him they wouldn't offer him the further apart sites as it wouldn't be fair for his role as a father and might burn him out. Anyway, the division has these two new sites and although DH has not been officially told 'he has to manange them' it is looking this way, which means spending quite a bit of time travelling up there (he currently sees his sites once to twice a week!). This is obviously worrying from a few angles - labour; him in Liverpool, me south London - afterwards; family commitments - career; he would be managing the largest division having the least experience and being the youngest by far - wages; could we ask for an increase? - company car; should he get a bigger one for all the travelling? - moving; is Essex such a great spot for all the dealerships now? - contract; his contract states he works for two manufacturers, would this then change his contract as it is a different two manufacturers to be added, therefore can we ask for a new contract to be drawn up? We are very confused by it all and advice or opinions would be gladly received!!!!! Sorry to bore anyone!!!!!

Right better get ready as meeting a friend for lunch a little way away.

Byyeeee

Mad - good luck on the wedding and the baby.

Enthusia - Post your HR question in the employment thread - lots of HR people there. For what it is worth, and I'm not in HR, it sounds like a promotion to me = more money and better care and new contract!

Thanks for tip re: boots baby club.
