wow Enthusia you are a ray of sunshine at the moment, I always get a lift when I read your posts as you're so darn happy .

Thankfully the vet has shown me the 'tablet grip' for cats which is very effective. And they always get a treat to eat after which softens the blow.

Actually going to get my arse in gear today and get my wedding photos printed (only over a year late). My family have been complaining that we haven't given them an album either, I didn't realise that was what happened, but to appease them I'm getting them some prints too. If the weather holds out I might get round to mowing the lawn too - we can no longer see the cats legs when they walk across it!

Great tip about Boots Enthusia! You always sound like happy busy bee!

Took dd for her optitians appt this morning and got her prescription for her new glasses, she's v.excited! She's worn glasses since she was 11 months old! Currently waiting for my pushchair delivery today, and I'm getting impatient! Mum and sis are coming round later, so looking forward to that, hope they bring choc!

Beks, still not sorted baby clothes - I'm rubbish!

Nova, Got all our holiday pics developed yesterday, I love getting them done. Prepare to feel all nostalgic and tearful later!

Right, speak to you all later, loveys!

pinkminx79 · 21/09/2005 11:46

goldenoldie · 21/09/2005 11:47

Pink - I think they say upto 21 days?

pinkminx79 · 21/09/2005 11:50

thanks! I saw the leaflets in boots a couple of weeks ago. At the weekend i ordered LOADS of stuff and joined online at the same time.

I read somewhere about 'picking up a bounty pack at mothercare' whats that all about?

sorry about all the questions, i'm a bit scatty LOL

xx

goldenoldie · 21/09/2005 12:44

I got Bounty pack at anti-natal clinic. A few small free samples and lots of leaflets - not much cop I thought.

KristinaM · 21/09/2005 15:00

Hi everyone, hope you are all surviving.

Maddy - many congratulations on the baby and the wedding. let us know how everything goes please

Welcome Kate - hope you have joined the special needs threads here - the mums there have a wealth of experience and are very friendly. Its so hard to understand what you and your DH/Dp are going through, unless you have been there. Do you have a name chosen for your new baby? We were settled on Kate ( Catherine) for a girl but baby is almost def a boy and we cant decide between James ( Jamie), Jack or Max. All very popular just now I know but we have an uncommon surname. We need short traditional names that have not been used already by 20 + cousins!!!

Cha cha- how are you feeling? I'm ok most of the time, just fed up and tired. My back sort of gives out on me every so often but isnt painful the rest of the time.

Every time I feel sorry for myself with my pregnancy aches and pains ( I am a big moaner)I think of you with your back or the girls with GD or golden young thing who must be HUGE by now....

Enthusia - you asked about experience of pain relief. I've only had gas and air and epidural. Both were fab - I didnt feel much having the epi inserted but was in labour big time anyway. And no after effects ( probably good luck). I'm thinking about trying TENs this time - did you get any good info about hiring? What have you decided to do? BTW the tens for me would be BEFORE the epi not instead of - I am a big wimp

When I read about all your plans and purchases for the baby I felt like such a lazy slob....so have gone out and bought.......nappies and ST ( I hate shopping). Thats it now...must find first size baby grows and vests from the back of DD1s wardrobe....

BTW dont mean to rain on anyone's parade...but are you sure that scented Lush etc bath products are the best thing for your stiches??? I know you always think it wont happen to you...but theres a very high chance that first time mums will end up with stiches soemwhere or other..... about a one in three chance of a CS and ?70% chance of stiches for a vaginal delivery?? Something like that - sorry I'm sure Twinkle and Karma mother will know......

BEKsmum · 21/09/2005 15:58

Afternoon girls, had an great night last night, but was thrashed at Scrabble, bump got manhandled by friends, which it wasn't impressed about and has been playing me up ever since!

Maddyd, fantastic news congratulations. Enjoy your wedding what a great place to marry and you take care of yourself and let us know how you're doing.

Rodeo, you lazy mare sort those clothes out !!!

Chacha, lol and love the image created of you in fingerless gloves. Perhaps we should find out what everyones favourite song is, I used to be a big George Michael fan when I was younger, but went into the indie stuff like the Stone roses etc. Now who knows, I only get to listen to nursery rhymes and often find myself singing along to one of Ben's tapes even ewhen he's not in the car - you have been warned!!!

Enthusia let me think on your problem, have got to get the grey matter working before I say anything as I have been out of the HR game for over three years now, but I will get back to yu on it.

Krisitina, ohh you've made me wince just thinking about scented bath products after delivery.

Diddle send HK my best won't youand tell her I'll cat her soon.

Right best go and see what the little one is up to as he's been at pre-school all day today and I've left him downstairs witha drink & a snack to try and improve his mood - not likely though!

Speak to you all later Beks (32+3)

novadandypowder · 21/09/2005 16:37

Kristina, not sure where you got the idea about using Lush products after birth, the stuff that we've all got for our hossy bags are sprays and massage oils. I've picked up some lavender and tea tree oils for adding to baths after birth as some of the threads on here have mentioned they're good for healing though.

Well, the wedding photos are at the printers, the lawn is now mown, and the garden weed free. Phew! Next stop on the sam hurricane will be sorting out holiday snaps from the last 4 years that need printing - the place we're getting the wedding snaps done have a special offer on at the mo.

Today finally saw the death of our cream shag pile rug in the lounge. We've been making noises about getting rid of it anyway as it was quite dirty, but the final straw came today when I discovered cat sick over it that had sunk in over night. It actually looks quite nice not having it there so we might not bother replacing it.

karmamother · 21/09/2005 16:59

Hello everyone.

KristinaM - I'm not sure of the stats about stitches but I was given the following advice last time from my MW. When peeing with stitches, to ease the pain either pee in the shower with the water washing your bits at the same time, or soak a sponge in water, hold it against your bits & pee into it over the loo. I think the first one sounds better. Also, drinking barley water is good as it takes the sting out of your wee - I've used it for cystitis.

Goldenoldie - Your 2hr result wasn't too bad. I was told that they sometimes see 11s & 12s. I was able to speak to a better diabetic nurse today who obviously specialises in obstetrics. She was very reassuring & said that if my levels were good then the likelyhood of bubs going to scbu were very low. She said this tends to happen when the mums have needed insulin to control the GD. I then spoke to the dietician who really advised me to eat a little carb with each meal. I hadn't, in order to keep levels down, so I'm now having a small slice of wholemeal bread. She said you produce ketones if you avoid carbs, which is more harmful to baby than slightly high sugar levels. She also said if the odd one was slightly over & I knew what I'd eaten that caused it, they wouldn't dive in with the insulin. A walk after meals was recommended. Also, little & often with food is better. If 2 slices of bread with a meal puts you over, have just one, do the blood test after 2 hrs than eat the 2nd slice then. She says its not cheating. I'm pleased that cheese, advocado pears & olives have hardly any carb in them at all so I feel that I'm getting something tasty to snack on.

Maddy - well done! What a great combination, new hubby & new baby Very brave of you to come back on here but there's always support if you need it.

Enthusia - I can't wait for my goodies from Boots. I was begining to think it was a waste of time. My Bounty pack was dismal. The 2 packets of washing powder tablets came in handy though, as I'd just run out!

Off to collect DS from school. Walking like Groucho Marx now as I'm sure bubs is trying to negotiate a 3 point turn on an hourly basis. I may have to resort to the bag of frozen peas on my fundus to encourage her to turn!!

See ya later

twinkle1 · 21/09/2005 17:22

Im quite excited about the boots stuff too.I filed the form in weeks ago and presumed they had stopped doing club or something, but i will be well pleased if i get any of the stuff you talked about

Nova - LOL about the cat sick! After cleaning up after the cats you will find new baby poos a doddle...you know the black tarry ones you have to scrape off !!!!!! When you said Lush products i thought you menat the bath bombs - the ones that fizz up and smell wonderful. Just thought it might sting a bit [ouch]. I'm very impressed by the massage sprays - I'm a "get me the drugs now" gal so am full of admiration for everyone who can do the massage/aromatherapy/visualisation stuff.

Karma - thanks for the stiches advice. I'm freaking out a bit about having them again - last baby was 8 1/2 lbs and I had quite a few & so far this one seems bigger.Took a long time for things to get back to normal IYSWIM. Made me wish i had a CS. Whats with the frozen peas on the fundus?

pinkminx79 · 21/09/2005 20:04

i wasn't too impressed with the folder of adverts i got as a bounty pack at the hosp either. I read in my pampers book that we should pick up something from mothercare (and boots i think) can anyone shed any light on this?

karmamother · 21/09/2005 20:41

KristinaM - I agree with you, drugs are wonderful, aren't they?? When I was a student midwife I remember feeling really sorry for the NCT mums who decided that a bit of breathing was going to get them through it. Half an hour later they'd be screaming for an epidural, feeling like they'd failed. BTW, I'm not holding NCT responsible or casting an opinion about women who attend NCT classes, honest!!

Anyhoo, I had a lovely tear with a 7llb 2oz baby, I've got a huge bump this time so I'm not holding out much hope. I suppose it takes your mind off the sore nipples.

The frozen peas is an idea I learned from another thread on here. It's supposed to encourage a breach baby to turn head down. Its either that or go on all fours with my arse in the air for 15 mins every hour. Just don't fancy a section, really. I should be glad at the moment as I have symphysis pubis dysfunction & not having her head sitting on it is definately more comfortable.

karmamother · 21/09/2005 20:45

Forgot to say, pinkminx79 - when I booked with my MW, she gave me a Bounty folder with some pregnancy info in it. The Bounty book in it contained a voucher for £5 off in Mothercare & a voucher to collect my Bounty pack from there too. Don't get excited, there wasn't much in it. Also, when you're in hosp having your baby, a lady usually comes round handing out Delivery Bounty packs to new mums. I think there's also one for a few months postnatally too. Ask your MW about it.

KristinaM · 21/09/2005 21:43

Karma - do the peas work on a transverse baby? And how late do you leave it? Try to turn them now when there is more space? Or wait til later til there is less chance of them turning back? ( Ds turned late, about week 39)

Or just leave them and be resigned to an elective Cs, knowing this means no stiches in the you know what???

Kristina, I'm certainly not intending to go through birth on massage and breathing - lol!!. Give me an epidural as soon as I hit 4 cms. The main reason I've taken the spray and oil is that I love smells, and hope that having something nice to sniff will take my mind off the fact that I'm in a hospital and calm me down. If that makes sense??

I certainly feel like my cats are preparing me for having children - cleaning poo and sick, sitting at the vets for cuts and scrapes, fighting, waking me up in the morning, finding someone to look after them if we go away etc...

Another wednesday night, another rubbish ante natal class. DH made me go as the first part was about complications and instrumental delivery and he was curious about that, but we left at the break as I couldn't bear another hour devoted to a breast feeding video and discussion. I'm not going back to any more. I've told DH to tell me what he wants to know and I'll fill in the blanks.

KristinaM · 21/09/2005 22:14

OH Nova I am disappointed. I thought you were going to be an earth mother type in bondage gear You had an hour on BF at your class??? No one has even mentioned feeding the baby to me! Sounds like Enthusia is the only one to have decent classes.

Cha cha - good to hear from you.I've been swigging Mugogel for the heartburn - great stuff!

Karma - forgot to say sorry about the SPD.Sounds awful.

Where are BoB and BAM?

On a frivilous note - do any of you have brown lines or a sticking out belly button yet? I just have a flat one - DS1 keps pulling up my top in public, poking it & shouting " OH LOOK!"

rodeo1 · 21/09/2005 23:03

Just in bed with the laptop as dp is watching something boring on the tv downstairs. I've just typed out (yes, typed! I'm bored ok!) a load of baby lists (things to sort, hossie bag, things still to buy etc), and put them all in pretty colours! Useless I know, but it may get me motivated!! Hmmm..

I can't remember if I've signed up for the Boots thing. I have a vague recollection, but I'm not sure? Might sign up again!

My pushchair came! Horray, it's fab! I'm really pleased with it, and my Amby baby nest came too which looks very cosy, hoping the baby will think so too! Signed ds up for the local kid's football club today, he's soooo excited! Awww! He goes on Saturday mornings! I'll let you know how he get's on!

I have a flattish belly button! No dark teddy bear line though. Hmph, I always wanted one!

Kristina, I can't work out what you bought with your nappies? What's ST? It's really obvious isn't it, and it's going to make me look really thick!

Chacha I agree, Enthusia is the officially the most energetic woman on here! We'll have to get a trophy done for her!

Night all x x x

Hmph, dp has just come up to tease me that he's watching first look Lost on E4, but I'm too tired! Oh now I don't know whether to watch or go to sleep!

Enthusia · 22/09/2005 05:37

Hiya

Haven't read the recent threads I'm afraid. DH is trying to boot me off computer as we are off to Colchester today - my shopping crawl of Essex is nearly at an end I fear!!!!

Will post later with any other bargain news and catch up with everyone!

Hope you are all well and smiling!!!!!!!!

Busyalexsmummy · 22/09/2005 06:27

been up since 5.30am as ds woke up suddenly screaming, not sure wether it was because he heard daddy getting ready for work or because he had a nightmare or something, thought i may as well get up.

rodeo1-Wow, I bet having your pushchair arriving makes it all seem much more real now! cant wait for mine to arrive but its not in stock yet so probably wont be here till mid oct.
think kristina meant ST-sanitory towels? havent read the post but thats what springs to mind

KristinaM-No I dont have a linea nigra(?) and I didnt with ds, although its supposed to be darker skinned women that get it mainly olive skinned/asian women etc
as for my bellybutton, its been flat/sticking out for a few months now, my baby seems to delight in putting its feet behind it and pushing outwards which makes me want to hurl!
By the way, glad im not the only one freaking out about having anougher whopper-ds was 8lb 13 1/2oz and im only 5ft2!! with size 4 feetI agree about the stitches-the worst thing ive ever experienced to date,i wouldnt sit down for 4 days after his birth, either stood up or led down! I also remember that awful thing where your stitches start falling out and you find bits of stitch in your pants and in the bath!ewww, if its one thing i could wish for, its not to have them this time!

Bounty packs-most of them in my experience are pretty rubbish and filled with advertising gimics, the worst one possibly is the big box you get from boots when the babys born, it contains quite a few jars of food and baby juices but the amount of free baby milk samples is pretty scandeless

Liz 31+5

Busyalexsmummy · 22/09/2005 06:54

ps, bit of a weird request, but the only thing ive really got left to buy for hossie bag etc is sanitory towels, ive got 2 packs, but i need to get a load in incase i dont felt like getting out and about as quickly as last time, so, if anyone sees always on offer can you let me know so i can go and stock up!

ChaCha · 22/09/2005 09:19

Morning,

BAM - They were doing an offer in Boots last week. It was on the Always Night Time Pads. I know that a few MNers recommended them as opposed to the maternity ones so bought both. How are you feeling anyway? Still thinking of moving?
Stitches on pants!!! Oh God.

I noticed that Tesco are doing a Tommee Tippee (?) sterilizer for 20quid instead of 40. Not sure if it's any good though - any ideas?

Enthusia - You never cease to amaze me!! I am resting today after a busy day outdoors - you're shopping again!!! ohh...need to lie down
