Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

Frakk
If you use this daily (I put it on after a morning shower and sometimes if I remember and not too tired before bed) it helps keep the tissue between vagina and anus Blushas soft and supple as possible as this is the weakest point when your baby's head crown's, this is the point when they decided whether to suggest an episiotomy or if they are too late or you refuse you can tear Shock this is something I have been oiling against since the blue lines on the test appeared. My MF's past and present have said this is helpful and with my last two being 7 & 8lbs has probably been the reason why I have only grazed (tiny 1mm cuts in a couple of places) so I'm keeping it up. The grazing hurts enough for about a week so I'm all for avoiding the cut! You can buy the oil or gel in most big chemists. They have it in a £19.99 gift toiletry bag in Boot's, treat yourself it's not everyday you make a baby! I'm a big believer in pampering your skin at this time as my body may have produced and birthed children but I do try to limit the effects, after all when I have the energy I want to be a sex bomb too lol! WinkGrin

frakkinstein · 28/10/2010 15:02

Omg link please! And do Boots deliver overseas?!

beckie90 · 28/10/2010 15:48

snowfalls congratulations how exiting:)

my belly is still totaly flat. im 16 week on sunday, with my 1st i showed at 8 weeks. am so paranoid about it, but the babys moving so im assuming its fine, when i lay down i can see my little bump its so tiny.
having a very down day today, split up with my partner today, and now im going to be a single mum of 2 at 20, but i think i will manage. i will get over it. i hope anyway

Liv77 · 28/10/2010 16:06

I had to have a catheter fitted yesterday Shock.

The baby/uterus position has blocked off my bladder so I can't wee. Had a very painful day yesterday. I phoned up midwifes at the hospital at 7.30am who told me to see GP. Saw the GP at 9.15 who couldn't locate baby's heartbeat (no surprise as my abdomen was by then very distended and very tender) GP referred me back to the hospital. Got to the hospital and had to wait for the on call obs, finally had an in/out catheter put in at 10.30 for some relief. Then had scan to check on baby who gave me a little wave. Smile

Sent home at 12.00 and told to phone at 5pm to let them know how I was or phone earlier if discomfort returned. Was back in the hospital by 2pm and then had to wait another hour Angry before they finally put another catheter in. Now at home with the catheter, which they are going to remove next Wed and then wait and see what happens. To top it all off I have now also got a stinking cold Sad

Sorry if TMI but I don't remember reading about this in any of the pregnancy books. The obs. did say it was pretty rare especially at this stage of pregnancy and if it does occur it's usually at around 12-14 weeks. I am currently 17+5.

Cyclebump · 28/10/2010 16:13

beckie90 That sucks! Break up can't be an easy thing to deal with right now, hope you're ok.

Liv77 Ouch! That sounds SO unpleasant.

I feel doubly bad for moaning to DP about my backache now but it's KILLING me. Eugh.

lucielooo · 28/10/2010 16:38

Ahh, hugs to Beckie and Liv.. sounds like you've both had rubbish days in different ways.

Beckie - Do you feel the split is the best thing in the long term? Really hope you're feeling ok x

beckie90 · 28/10/2010 16:39

oh dear liv77 cant be 2 good.

thankyou cyclebump im not too bad. hes the only partner ive had but i'll get by ive got a beautiful boy from him and a growing baby i will be fine :)

lucielooo · 28/10/2010 16:40

Also, re perineal massage/oil (will definitely be getting some!) I've already started getting DP warmed up to the idea by telling him to google it and see what I may require of him nearer the time. He's got two teenage children by a previous marriage, and I get the impression that ex wife wasn't quite such a sharing type as I am Grin

Liv77 · 28/10/2010 16:40

I forgot to add that I kept hearing the midwifes on the ward refer to me as the bladder lady Blush not a name you really wish for is it.

I also felt sorry for the ladies/partners I had to wait with who were there for Day Assessment Clinic. I got a few funny looks so felt I had to explain to them why I looked like I was so desperate for the toilet - I was!

They later had the pleasure of hearing me relieve 1400mls into 2 plastic jugs (1 wasn't enough Blush) as there was only a curtain around the bed. But by that point I was quite frankly beyond caring Grin

lucielooo · 28/10/2010 16:41

bless you liv - do they think it's something that will fix itself?

Liv77 · 28/10/2010 17:10

Hi LucieLooo

Yes, something like that, hopefully my internal bits will move around and be a bit more accommodating as the baby grows. According to my scan notes currently the baby is very low with a posterior placenta and my cervix is behind my pubic bone blocking off the bladder.

So fingers crossed for next Wednesday when they take out the catheter and I'll have to wait and see what happens.

frakkinstein · 28/10/2010 17:56

Oh my goodness Liv! Hope you're feeling better now and things shift around.

Hope dealing with the all the associated stuff isn't too hard. Break ups are shit on their own even without trying to sort out all the things which go with it AND coping with being pregnant. Do you have support from your friends and family?

JustKeepSparkling · 28/10/2010 18:20

Beckie :( hope you're ok, have you got family around to support you?

Liv - sounds pretty terrible. i had similar but during labour with DS1. I hadn't realised but the MWs did, that i hadn't weed for ages. and things weren't moving along with the birth so they put in a catheter (this was at home so not tooo embarrassing), and i weed into several cardboard puke bowl thingies it was such a relief though even though i hadn't realised how much i needed to go.

Then, when his placenta got stuck they put in another one and did the same.

Apart from an absolutely horrendous UTI a few days later (so watch out for that, start on the cranberry juice asap) i was fine. they said his head had 'bent' the urethra for a bit so i couldn't go.

Once i got upstairs into the bath, they encouraged me to go in there - was vvvvv odd and went against all instincts but i managed. Blush

(i did have a shower after i'd like to point out!)

kittycatcat · 28/10/2010 21:16

So sorry Beckie you sound v strong and positive. Hugs.
Ouch liv

Cyclebump · 29/10/2010 09:13

Ooh I second the cranberry juice if you've had a catheter. My dad was catheterised following a massive strike a couple of years ago and he had terrible UTIs (he had one in for three months though!). He's recovered now but when we let him in on the lady secret of cranberry juice it was a revelation and a huge non-stinging relief!

Glad to hear you're able to be positive Beckie.

caramellokoalalover · 29/10/2010 11:32

Hi everyone, Haven't been on for a week or so. Feel like nothing much has been happening... still sick (am I the only one?). Bump growing along with thighs and arse Blush. Started going to pregnancy yoga last Sunday and oh my god, had forgotten how nice it is to do yoga when pregnant. Will def be trying to keep it up! I think it evens helps me feel less tired, winner!

Beckie sorry to hear your sad news, hope you've got plenty of support from friends and family, and lots of hugs and chocolate.

snowflakes congrats! it's great to hear such a positive story. hope you have a healthy and happy pregnancy.

Frakk did you get to see the head midwife yet? I can imagine that having that sort of thing hanging over you can add to the stress of having to go through it at all.

I've never heard of what you've gone through Liv. Sounds awful. And added humiliation of being labelled the bladder lady. Someone should right a book telling women all the things that can happen in pregnancy and labour and call it 'Pregnancy: Leave Your Dignity At The Door'...but then the population might plummet Wink

Cyclebump · 29/10/2010 12:12

If it makes you feel any better Liv I had a sudden coughing fit on the way home and that combined with a full bladder led to the inevitable Blush

It wasn't a full on gush but jeans are now in the wash. Thank God I was already off the bus and walking home in the dark!

Poodle82 · 29/10/2010 12:38

I went shopping for maternity clothes for the first time yesterday and got remeasured for bras - am now no longer an A cup but officially 34C which makes a nice change!

Beckie sorry to hear your news. I hope you have lots of people around you for support.

Liv hope it gets sorted out quickly for you. It's certainly true that you don't hear about half the complications pregnancy can cause before you get pregnant.

caramel well done on starting pregnancy yoga. I haven't seen any classes near me but still feeling very lazy so haven't looked too hard. Perhaps 12 hour shifts at work on my feet, and hour long dog walks on my days off compensate though.

frakkinstein · 29/10/2010 12:46

What's the difference between pregnancy yoga and normal yoga? Not that I think we have antenatal yoga here. I'm just going to my normal claases.

Should be at my appointment now but I'm clearly not.... Have got everything prepared though, now just need to go through with it. Possibly a good thing it was cancelled as I haven't heard from DH all day and that usually means something bad has happened at work and he's rushed off his feet.

What did you get, poodle?

SaltedPretzels · 29/10/2010 13:07

Beckie You sound upbeat which is great despite this being hard if it's right for you, that's all that matters, hope you have your family and friends about you.

May sound a bit early to suggest this but Gingerbread is worth a google it's for lone parents, my sister has three children and her husband left her just before 3 was born, Gingerbread have been a real help in everything from housing advice (she has a mortgage they helped restructure the payments for one person on a low income)but they can help with housing associations etc, daycare and after school clubs as well as regular days out, holidays with other single mums & dad's and just a call away if you need to vent some anger etc. xx

Liv Argh nightmare, never heard of it but can't be fun, hopefully it will get better soon xx

Frakk I've just found loads of perineal oil for sale on amazon starting at around £4, it wasn't Boots that have the pamper pack it's Mothercare, I have the link and they do deliver to the EU so another YEY for Mothercare!!

www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Wash-Bag-and-Toiletries/dp/B002HSXKGE/sr=1-36/qid=1288353439/ref=sr_1_36/280-3624541-9113344?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42799041&mcb=core#productInfo

Where overseas are you anyway out of interest?

Cyclebump Glad you said it, it's really embarrassing isn't it, I have to bend slightly if I sneeze or else lol! [hblush] After DD2 I bought a pelvic floor exerciser (have now seen the electronic version and it will be better) as it's a real fiddle about, and you have to make sure nobody is at home when you do it as they say to walk about with it in. That's ok but when your muscles get tired it just drops out, like you've laid an egg lol [hgrin]

stuffedmk · 29/10/2010 14:34

I agree with the bending slightly before sneezing lol.

Beckie I'm sure everything will be fine whatever the future holds, just remember if you need to let off steam we are here.

Liv I had a catheter during labour and was gobsmacked at how much liquid came out Blush like JustKeepSparkling I had no idea I even needed to wee lol

Think I will have to invest in some pereneal oil although I'm sure some almond oil/any old oil really would do the job. I seem to remember using olive oil last time, I started quite late on and din't do the 'proper' massage method just rubbed a bit of oil in to the area. Didn't tear there, but did have labial tear which I had never heard of before it happened to me. Anyway I think I shall rub a bit up front aswell(or get DH to do it for me Wink).

Went for walk to the shops yesterday, had just eaten huge lunch and ended up with the inevitable indigestion and a nice stitch. Anyway I had to stop walking for a second and stood rubbing my ever expanding belly. A bloke stopped to check I was OK, I was too embabrrased to tell him I just had indigestion lol.

Am having a bit of a nightmare with my hips in bed at the moment. I am really trying not to sleep on my back but it is the only way I am comfortable. I usually sleep on my right side but I keep waking up with a really painful right hip. I try changing sides but I just can't sleep facing DH as I can't stick my legs out at all angles to get comfy. The pain does seem to go off during the day but it is getting worse and worse at night and taking longer and longer in the morning to ease. I think it's down to having such a hard mattress, I think the relaxin is stopping my hips (or surrounding muscles) staying in their proper position or something and the firm surface is just pushing everything out....or something like that Confused Well that's my theory anyway.
Have some pregnancy yoga dvds that I am going to give a try, hopefully a bit of stretching etc will help. Any other suggestions would be most welcome though.

Have been getting lots of movements lately although there are still odd days where I don't feel much, which makes me stress out, am trying to just chill though. Only another 3 weeks until next scan, feels like forever and although I really want to know the sex and am sure I will want to buy gender appropriate clothing when I know, I still can't stop buying little bits and pieces when I see them, I think I am almost set for newborn/0-3 month stuff lol.

Oh and my new food of the moment is picked onions....ate about half a jar in one sitting the other day, am trying to curb the numbers now though.

Wow that was a bit of an essay lol

stuffedmk · 29/10/2010 14:35

picked onions? lol pickled Blush

caramellokoalalover · 29/10/2010 14:56

Frakk normal yoga is fine as long as the teacher knows you're pregnant as I think there are some poses you're not supposed to do when pregnant in case you pull things or something. The other differences I can think of are that they teach you breathing exercises to try when you're in labour, or just if you need to relax a little, also do pelvic floor exercises in the class, silly walks to practice for early labour, or positions that might help with pain. There are loads of DVDs out there if you want to give it a go, and bonus that way is you can spend the money saved on cute things, and can do it in your PJs!

stuffedmk, you might have already tried this for your hips but just in case...I folded a spare duvet in half longways and put it under the sheet on my side for extra padding. Has worked a treat! And is toasty and warm Smile

stuffedmk · 29/10/2010 16:31

caramel will defo give it a go, already have a matress topper, maybe the combined padding will help. Basically we bought a super expensive mattress a while back due to DH's bad back, we probably bought it too firm in the end but can't afford a new one....still paying this one off lol. Probably should have just got a memory foam one but we were worried it would be too warm (DH has terrible insomnia and any extra heat makes it worse) being manmade fibres.

It wasn't too bad until the pain started waking me up numerous times each night, I have had enough now.....hope I can sort something before long, I mean I'm not even half way yet.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/10/2010 18:44

stuffed - it sounds like you done the same bed thing as us, we ended buying a memory foam topper for our stupidly expensive and uncomfortable mattress Blush The memory foam topper made all the difference though. Another trick to try is when you're laying on your side, put a pillow between your knees, it seems to help stabilise your pelvis.

Liv - I think I had a milder form of what you have a couple of weeks ago. I could pee, but the stream was tiny and it took ages to go and when I did it was painful. I tested negative for a UTI, so I wouldn't be surprised if my bladder was fighting for space. It lasted for about a week for me, fingers crossed it will be the same for you.

I have a hacking cough at the mo and I'm paranoid about peeing my pants. Thankfully it hasn't happened ................ yet.
