Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

LifesComplicated · 23/10/2010 22:30

Hi everyone. I really hope you don't mind me introducing myself? Please say if you don't want me to join, but I thought I'd see if I could, as I'm due with my DC1 on 26/4. Until recently I've been on the "Due May 2011" thread, which has been lovely, but at my recent dating scan I found out I'm now due earlier and therefore would make more sense to see if I could join this group instead.

I feel a bit disloyal to the May group, but to be honest I'm a month further on than many on there, and that's quite a big difference at this stage isn't it? I've had a preliminary read through some of the posts here and it's lovely to be able to identify with much of it (the fluttering movements, the early december anomaly scans, the entry to trimester 2 etc).

Do let me know if my joining will be a problem for any of you though. I don't want to uninvitedly crash a party.

Best wishes,
LC x
ps - Justkeepswimming I lived in Sarfend too until last month! Still miss the place.

lucielooo · 23/10/2010 23:44

Welcome lifescomplicated :) Must have been a bit of a surprise to find out you're further along than you thought - although hopefully a nice suprise!

frakkinstein · 24/10/2010 08:57

Hello and welcome lifescomplicated :)

You can always keep in touch with both - your baby may be overdue and then you'll end up on May post-natal anyway!

Much better to find out it's earlier than expected rather than later. I had my EDD pushed back by 10 days...

JustKeepSparkling · 24/10/2010 09:39

Hi LifesComplicated :)

I really wanted them to tell me at my scan i was further along, i'm so impatient!

Looking sunny down south today hope you are settled where you are now?

I have slept a bit better the last few nights, though still have to wake for a drink, mouth open, and DS2 in a phase (i hope!) of waking at 5-something

Poodle82 · 24/10/2010 11:18

Welcome to the April thread Lifescomplicated - it must be nice to have your due date brought forward. Mine came forward a couple of days so strictly speaking I'm due at the very end of March. My dh is still telling everyone I'm due on April's Fools day though!

Thanks for your message lucielooo. Although your head tells you to not plan too far ahead in the first trimester I think you still do so I will feel a bit sad next week. I have 3 weeks now till my 20 week scan.

Stuffedmk Sorry to hear about your mc. I had a glance at the Nov thread the other day too. Seems a few of them already have their babies which is exciting. It will be all of us soon enough!!

SaltedPretzels · 24/10/2010 13:07

Good afternoon, well busy few days, flu jabbed, 2 days ill in bed lol not flu!

Liv I too have found one stroppy midwife why be miserable when your surrounded with happy glowing pregnant excited mums to be?! I think the saying is 'jog on', so my teenage daughters tell me!

DH has gone a little loopy he (for the past 8 weeks since finding out) updates bump on daily events then tells me (like I can't hear him talking to my stomach)! Really sweet though he's read more than I have.

My Inlaws arrive today (teachers, very handy!)they will stay for a week and MIL has already knitted for an army. They have also bought a beautiful crib.

I've been trying out pushchairs, decided not to go for a travel system as I live in a small town in the Lakes the nearest City is 50 mins drive away Carlisle or 2 hours to Leeds or Newcastle so have decided Car seat to clip on buggy not needed for an every other month car journey. So Pram and pushchair combo. Going for foam wheels as I've now seen two mothers, one sat on the floor in a multi storey car park the other on a bench in town trying to inflate punctured wheels, the one in the car park had managed to part inflate when it pinged off the rim so she was in tears with the baby in the car seat and toddler trying to get the baby back out of the car seat!! Looks too much like a nightmare so foam for me!

Skipping moses baskets, no real need if you have a pram it's the same thing but last longer, they grow out of the basket within 3 months max the pram last 6 months.

Learnt from last time to shop early as 6 months + your too Knackered and heavy to pace the town shopping all day.

Blood tests tomorrow DH cancelled work as he doesn't want to miss anything, I love how excited he gets!

Started a list of names on Bounty, save 7 then took a poll from friends on Facebook, amazing how many replies I got although some made me laugh so much I cried (hormone overdose)!

Weird but in 4 weeks, I'm halfway YEY!!!

Oh started with heatburn at bedtime, really annoying but Gaviscon helps heaps but Boots own brand is yacky tasting and separates so it looks really oily!

SaltedPretzels · 24/10/2010 13:14

OOoh forgot CRAVINGS:

Weird alert, I mentioned a few weeks ago the smell of warm vinegar well now I have to eat everything with vinegar I even had a few spoonfuls a few days ago and felt wonderful, but MW says not to give in to all cravings and to just stick to it on food and not as a drink [hgrin]

Anyone else got a craving?

MuffinMouse · 24/10/2010 15:05

LOL Saltedpretsel at the vinegar thing. No cravings yet. I had a massive plum craving last time. Ate a punnet a day.

I agree about buying baby stuff. I found that I needed to have it generally sorted by 30 weeks as I was just too tired to be bothered shopping. Though I guess there's always the internet! We also never used a moses basket - just the pram carry cot.

Have started looking at change bags - as last time I found this a major extravagance. Used a TKMaxx messenger bag, which was fine. This time, as I have lots of baby stuff, I thought I might have a look at some. I will have to carry it for two years.... Thought I might ask Father Christmas, if I spot a nice one....

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/10/2010 16:05

What was your MW's reason for not giving in to all cravings Salted? Drinking a few spoonfuls of vinegar is odd, granted Grin, but it's not harmful is it?

My craving has been chips and navel oranges. I think (or should I say 'hope') the chip craving goes away when the ravenous hunger pangs calm down.

16:00 I'm not hungry
16:01 Still not hungry
16:02 If I don't eat something now I'm going to vomit and/or rip someones head off.

I've always bought big handbags and used them as a baby changing bag as there has never been a changing bag that I really like - unless it's some stupid bloody price!

I bought my first lot of baby stuff for this baby about a month ago! They have got some lovely embroidered (sp?) Hungry Caterpillar unisex outfits in Sainsbo's. I couldn't resist Blush

Poodle and stuffed - sorry to hear about your mc's. November is going to be a hard and weird month for you. All of the what should of and could have beens. Be kind to yourselves xxx

OP posts:
SaltedPretzels · 24/10/2010 18:47

Poodle and Stuffed really sorry to hear your news xx

Changing bags, first two had them colour co-ordinated with pram set, waste of money! The idea is great one bag, lots of compartments and pockets but just really expensive for what they are. This time round I'm recycling my flight bag it's the same size, same pockets and even if I bought it again it would probably be cheaper than a changing bag + I can use this as a flight bag again without Winnie the Pooh all over it lol.

My MF said about not giving in too much to cravings not because of my vinegar obsession but because some cravings in excess can be bad and that instead of drinking vinegar maybe having a packet of salt & vinegar crisps or just something else more healthy, bitter tasting fruit etc. Not only that it's probably the reason for my heartburn attacks lol, off to take a swig, our secret lol yummy!

BeetleBaby · 24/10/2010 20:54

Does anyone else feel like they could do with another weekend just to sleep?! This whole burst of energy in the 2nd trimester thing seems to be passing me by completely.

On a more positive note I'm feeling much stronger baby (not general tummy) movements [hgrin] even DH was able to feel them this morning. I had to get the X5 bus on Friday evening (anyone who's ever experienced the joy of this bus route will understand that this is a horrid, horrid bus journey) and sat like an idiot grinning to myself as I felt the baby summersaulting and what felt like bracing it's feet against me! Made up for the travel sickness. There was also some definite kicking this afternoon while watching the F1 Grand Prix [hsmile]

Hope you're enjoying the baby shopping SaltedPretzels I can't wait to get started but just don't have time atm, guess t'internet will have to do until I can go test drive some prams!

Katietatie123 · 25/10/2010 10:30

Hi everyone,

Hope you don't mind me joining the party so late, I've been lurking for ages! I'm due on 12th April with my first and very excited, although have reached that stage where I think it's all in my head...

12 week scan was lovely, had appointment with midwife where she heard movement but couldn't hear a heartbeat yet - but assured me that it was very early and I shouldn't worry. I have nothing else booked in now until scan at 22 weeks so desperately hoping that every bit of trapped wind is movement!

Anyone else due around the same time as me and planning on giving birth at Kings College? :)

Cyclebump · 25/10/2010 10:45

Oh. My. God. Nipple leakage?! Seriously?!

Am only 17 weeks, WTF? I've been planning to breastfeed but this has all made it just a bit too real.

kittycatcat · 25/10/2010 12:04

Hi all

Welcome Katietatie and lifescomplicated

Sorry to hear your news poodle and stuffed (hugs)

Anyone else brave the baby show this weekend?

stuffedmk · 25/10/2010 12:34

Had my first incidence of puffy ankles yesterday. I was on my feet for most of the day so I guess it was bound to happen (not too bad but noticable none the less lol) I may have overdone it a bit yesterday actually. I had a karate lesson for an hour and a half in the morning then a further three hour long senior grade session in the afternoon. I was careful to go at my own pace and didn't get too tired but my back is rather achy today along with many of my muscles, baby still kicking so no harm done, just a bit uncomfortable. Taking it easy today lol (well apart from a bit of driving practice which does tend to stress me a bit).

stuffedmk · 25/10/2010 12:38

cyclebump I bought breast pads a while ago as I remember getting leaky nipples quite early on with DS, thought I'd be prepared. Not had any so far but waiting to see if it starts early again.

Cyclebump · 25/10/2010 12:58

Thanks stuffedmk, I thought it was bizarre but is clearly normal. DP was a little freaked out and accused me of making it up. It's just been a few drops so far but my nipples have been sooooo itchy. Is driving me mad.

beckie90 · 25/10/2010 15:26

hey ladies how many people have not got a bump at all. with my 1st i got 1 really quick, this time i have nothing, and people keep commenting lol. im starting to worry and feel abit paranoid

Liv77 · 25/10/2010 17:41

I have a bump but don't know if I can really say it's the baby as I've been eating like it's going out of fashion. Especially now the weather has got colder.
I went to my mum's for a roast yesterday lunchtime and cleared my plate at world record speed, including extra roasties, followed by Apple Crumble and Custard. Also had a cold chicken, chip and ketchup butty at teatime (at least it was on wholemeal seeded bread) and couple of hours later had an apple, yogurt, 2 packets of crisps and a couple of complimentary chocolates I found in the kitchen cupboard. I could quite happily have carried on eating too Had 2 baps for lunch today as well. Made and ate one and was still hungry half an hour later so made another. Am now looking lovingly at my toddler's leftovers but I will try to resist Blush

ecuse · 25/10/2010 18:01

I am 14+6 and just in the last few days think I'm starting to get a bump. However it's not down on my abdomen but up "underboob". I am a bit nonplussed by it - best I can think is that all my innards/flab have been pushed upwards by growing baby or something? Anyway, trousers still fit (maybe getting slightly tighter but perfectly wearable) but have a definite taut, drum-like swelling above my bellybutton. Odd. This is not a good look.

SaltedPretzels · 25/10/2010 18:05

Amazing day, DH and I heard babys heartbeat for the first time, it's such a lovely strange sound. MW went in for a second listen and baby kicked her doppler away, privacy please was the order of the day!! This coming from the baby that we had to have two scans done on because it hid in a ball so we could only see head, backbone and toes sticking out from under it's bottom! Cute picture though!

MW spent some time chatting to DH so that was really nice and reassuring after first MW all but ignored him.

In laws here, really excited so last night we spoke for hours on my favourite topic babies! Also eat everything on my plate and when the desert board arrived it was a bit fat yes! SO I was surprised when I'd lost weight at today's appointment but nothing to worry about I was a little overweight to start with so this is a bonus! Now thinking ahead to tonight's dinner, in, out take away? What goes best with vinegar?!

Liv77 · 25/10/2010 19:02

salted I'm glad you had a lovely day. Even with the scan pictures already it's always reassuring to hear the heartbeat.

As for your dinner I would highly recommend the humble chip butty with lashings of vinegar and if you want some added vinegary crunch stick some pickled onions in there too.

This talk of food is making me hungry, wonder if I can persuade DH to have oven chips for dinner.

frakkinstein · 26/10/2010 08:12

I also sort of might have a bump, but this may be mostly from getting incredibly bloated after eating! It's really, really unattractive...but then I don't think I want an actual bump either!

No baby movements yet. I mentioned to a doctor acquaintance I was started to get worried (at 15+2) and he said I might have to wait until 25 weeks because this is first baby AND I do loads of yoga/pilates so my core strength is getting in the way. I thought being fit was a good thing?!

Appointment with specialist midwife on Friday - am terrified. I really, really hope she's nice...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/10/2010 16:43

Why are you terrified about seeing the specialist MW Frakk? Apologies if I've missed you explaining this before.

I have a bump that starts underneath my boobs, but then I've had that since about 8 weeks Blush And then I'm just looking a bit blobby around the middle. I'm still fitting into my normal clothes, but by the end of the evening I have to undo the button on my jeans. I tried some of my maternity gear on and it just looked stupid. I hate the in-between bit.

OP posts:
frakkinstein · 26/10/2010 17:34

I don't think I have on this thread. I'm terrified cos I have various issues about things and I'm going to have to open up and talk about them but I'm equally liable to break down in tears and/or panic and clam up.

The approved French way of doing things gives me panic attacks just thinking about it and if I have this appointment they'll be more flexible. Plus this is the only way to choose my midwife, pref someone with experience of PTSD, and get access to perinatal psych help if I need it.

But it means talking about stuff I'd rather not...
