Re new thread how about 'Second Trimester, the rosy glow before the storm'?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 02/01/2011 20:29

Glad to see all the good news on the scan front. I have mine on Thursday, v much looking forward to it as DH will be coming with me (he couldn't attend the 13 week one). DD has said she wants to know whether the baby is a boy or a girl, so we are going to find out at the scan if we can.

QwertyQueen · 02/01/2011 21:30

hi all
Anyone else with terrible heartburn?
Taking Gaviscon liquid which is disgusting and it is taking ages to work :(

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 02/01/2011 22:38

Qwerty, yes on the heartburn front. I have always found that milkshake sooths the burn. Plus, when pregnant with DD and now, I do crave milk, but I hate the taste, so always stock up on the nesquick!

DMCWelshCakes · 03/01/2011 10:19

Happy New Year everybody. Christmas with the WelshCakes was good & I got a niece as an extra (and unexpected) present.

I'm 22+3 today and it all seems to be going well. DH and DiddyDragon can now feel big kicks from the outside. Bump has also started bouncing & changing shape as the baby moves which is causing no end of amusement. (Hope DiddyDragon's as enthralled when the baby actually arrives...)

Yes to heartburn, by the way. I suffered horribly with it with DiddyDragon & it looks like it's going to be a similar story this time. I'm drinking lots of milk & have gaviscon on standby at all times. I'm trying to hold off on the thick chocolate milkshakes for now, but suspect my self control won't last much longer. Grin

kiwigirlinlondon · 03/01/2011 10:51

Congratulations mummywilliams! how wonderful

The kicking feels very strong, especially late at night. Reassuring mostly but sometimes doesn't help me trying to get to sleep.

I'm also starting to look at what we need to buy. DH thinks its too early but i dont want to be doing it at the end when I'm big and maybe tired, and this way i can look out for sales/bargains. Very exciting but also shocking how much it all adds up to. I'm looking secondhand on eBay and will go to the local Nct sale in Feb but any tips on good places to buy stuff from second-timers?

omnomnomtom · 03/01/2011 18:56

hello- I realise I'm very late but can I join you? I'm due May 22nd with DC2.

Rollercoasteryears · 03/01/2011 19:43

Congratulations mummywilliams - details please! Have you thought about a date yet?

gingerwench I'm also v impressed by your willpower in putting that envelope away! I know I wouldn't be capable of that...

sesame I'm happy with that thread title!

Stripeybumpsmum so sorry your DD didn't make it home for Christmas Sad. We just took all our Christmas decorations down - definitely not much fun without the usual several glasses of Baileys to see us through!

kiwigirl the Kiddicare website is good for cheaper prices on most branded stuff - we got our car seat etc from them and they always seemed to be the cheapest and the delivery is impressively quick too.

Am 23 + 2 today - on the one hand, I can't believe that I'm already there, but on the other hand, I look about 7 months pregnant! We've bought some paint for what will be the baby's room (gone for pale yellow and a feature wall in blue) and ordered a blackout blind, although we won't start decorating until nearer the time. Is exciting to feel we're nearly at that stage though!

cowboylover · 03/01/2011 19:51

Welcome omnomnomtom!

I have had heartburn for ages and the Doc gave me Maalox which alos helps with the sickness so I am still glugging that.

Congratualtions mummywilliams Smile

I bought some sleepsuits and baby grows in the Pumpkin Patch sale today so had some bargains but I just feel like I should be doing something but not sure what that is so im just cleaning.

My hips are getting so painful now I am going to see the midwife again to see if there is anything I can do to make it bearable. DH bought a lush new memory foam matress but lying in my side huts and cant walk for long so feeling like an old lady.

cowboylover · 03/01/2011 19:52

Sorry read that back and it sounds so moaney!

Many people waiting for scans?

omnomnomtom · 03/01/2011 20:23

I have my 20 wk scan on Thursday. When I went for my 12 wk scan I was sternly told off for not drinking enough water beforehand as I have a backward sloping womb which makes it difficult to do the scan- I am under strict instructions to drink 2 pints of water before this scan which could be a little bit uncomfortable as I seem to always need the loo at the moment!

Haven't done any baby shopping yet- have all of DS's clothes stored away so will see if it's another boy before doing any shopping

cowboylover are your painful hips pregnancy related? Ask your midwife if they can refer you for physio- I had back problems in my last pg and physio helped a bit as did going to aqua natal classes.

runningmonkey · 03/01/2011 20:30

Hello omnom nice to see you :D

Congrats mummyw

Thinking of you and yours stripey

Quick wave to everyone else. DH thinks I'm currently writing out a budget to work out how long I can stay on maternity leave for... am obviously not doing too well!

cowboylover · 03/01/2011 21:01

Yes I think they are as never had anything like it before!

I spoke to BUPA and they said they just need my midwife/docs appoval and they think they can help so fingers crossed.

runningmonkey Any tips on where to start? I hope I can take 12 months but not sure how to start looking without saying to DH "how much over time can you do?!"

zinnia · 04/01/2011 14:35

Hello all
sorry it's been so long since I was last around, have had a tiring Christmas/New Year as we moved house on 22nd then have spent the last 8 days unpacking. GOD it's boring (especially for poor DD), can't believe we've got to do it all again within 6 months (not to mention the onset of panic that we're not going to be able to find anywhere to buy...)

Anyway, pg all going OK, bump seems to have doubled in size since before Christmas (not entirely food-related!) so am expecting comments when back in the office tomorrow. Am also getting dreadful heartburn Qwerty, as I did with DD - have been necking the Gaviscon tablets and eating yoghurt (Activia - doing double duty with the thrush!). V pleased to hear about your DS risk review as well, that must be a big relief.

Congrats everyone on the 20 week scans, I'm 22+4 now and can't believe how 2nd trimester is flying by.

Sorry for not namechecking properly, but re flu jab had mine ASAP back in October and v glad I did now that the general panic has set in. Also took DD for her swine flu last week, one of the children in her room at nursery had it before Christmas and I can't bear the thought of her going through that. She had a sore arm for about 48 hours and a high temp briefly, but Calpol did the trick and she's fine now.

Re weight I read somewhere that I should expect to have put on 7-10lbs (this was a week or two ago) by now, think I'm just over that by a lb or two, so not worried. Frankly enjoying the guilt-free eating, know I'll be back at Weight Watchers before the end of the year anyway so might as well make the most of it whilst I can!

Loopy & Cowboylover am impressed with your sales shopping, what with the move and having no broadband for a while completely missed out on the sales and am kicking myself now, esp as the friend who loaned us a moses basked last time has just given it to her brother. Was determined not to buy one, but it was handy last time. Methinks ebay beckons.

kiwigirl you're on the right track with ebay and the NCT sales, both highly recommended - have a look in your local charity shops as well, especially if it's a children's charity. Plus I've got some good stuff on the Mumsnet buy/sell forum in the past.

stripey sorry your Christmas was so rubbish, really hope things improving for your DD.

Tinwe and MummyW congratulations!

zinnia · 04/01/2011 14:58

Knew I'd forget something...

mslucy love Max, as does DH, but for rhyming/family use reasons was a no-go for us even if had been a boy. In fact had boy's name sorted, have always wanted Ben(jamin), but as this one's another girl it's back to the proverbial drawing board. For some reason find girls' names much trickier than boys'.

MummyW fortunately am still in my size 12/14 mat clothes (depending on source) but am I alone in being BORED of jersey and BORED of black & grey? Realise this is my own fault but what I wouldn't give for a pretty top that doesn't make me look like an elephant. Am checking the Topshop site daily in hope.

jinglebellssantasmells · 04/01/2011 17:33

mslucy · 04/01/2011 20:16

mega congrats MummyW - marriage is the best.

cowboylover · 04/01/2011 20:40

Thanks jinglebells, I will try that one as I have tried between the knees but didnt help much.

My mum is being a darling and coming around tomorrow and helping me start clearing out the laundry nursery!

I am a bit of a handbag queen and was a little scared I might have to give up my expensive habbit when the baby is born and loose the nice bags for a while but then I discoved Lyn and Leo! Ohh they are nice!
I went in to TKMaxx with my friend today (must have been a sign as I hate that shop and never go in!) and got one for half price! DH still bloody expensive for a nappy bag but it is lovely Grin

Are you all planning on doing ante-natal classes? If so when are you going?
I have the option of March or April so not sure which ones to book.

Yes she was early, although only by about a week or so, so heaven knows why we were all so shocked!

Her parents are very laid back (or they were before she arrived, haven't seen them since) so they were fairly sure she was going to be late. I guess their daughter had other ideas.

Don't think SIL is particularly disappointed not to be heavily pregnant in the snow any more though. Having seen the problems the weather has cause people over the last few weeks, I'm really glad that shouldn't be an issue for any of us.

Bonkerz · 05/01/2011 09:38

Hi all,
when are we starting a new thread????

Has everyone had there 20 week scan yet?
I have to go back on 13th for confirmer scan to check arms and legs and gender!

Am surviving on about 4 hours sleep at the moment which has been manageable over crimbo as i have been napping in the afternoon BUT im back at work on monday and am worried how i will cope.
The SPD and syatic pain is now under control with pain killers and im hoping to see physio in FEB which isnt too long away but long enough especially once im back at work next week and not able to rest!
Cot is now sorted and so is the babies changing table and chest of drawers and am stockpiling a nice lot of nappies, bootles, clothes etc too.
My sisters baby is 7 weeks old now and we will be inheriting the moses basket in 2 weeks and we are already getting baby clothes!
6 Weeks till maternity leave starts so im hoping i can throw myself into work and that it will fly by!

jinglebellssantasmells · 05/01/2011 11:04
