congrats on all the positive scans, once all the 20 wk scans r out the way we will have to make a list of the genders we are having, or we cud make one now and update it as we go along, be intersting to c how many girls/boys we have so far, im getting more and more impatient waiting for my scan now especially hearing everybody elses news :)still got 2 weeks to wait :(

went to my first pre-natal yoga class last nite, cant say it was really that enjoyable just a lot of breathing lol, it was nice to meet other pg woman tho im sure i will hopefully get to know a few of them over the nxt 5 months :)

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 22/12/2010 19:01

I am having my flu jab tomorrow. Still not entirely convinced it is for the best, but the doctor told me it was for the best.
DD has a uti. She's on antibiotics now. Hopefully will be okay for Christmas given the past two years she has been ill, and the year before I was really ill. I have just finished my antibiotics.

chester21 · 22/12/2010 20:50

is it normal to be nervous about the 20 week scan. I am 21 weeks today and going for my namaly scan tomorow morning and i cant seem to shift this nervous feeling for the past week i have been really good and not looking on dr google of all the things that can go wrong etc.

We are also hoping to find out if we ae team pink or blue, kind of hoping team pink as naming her is so much easier than naming a boy, god thzt sounds really bad doesnt it, i've been reading all your good 20 week scan stories well done ladies catch u all tomorrow.

stripeybumpsmum · 22/12/2010 20:52

Hi all,

Home overnight as Dh on shift at hosp this evening. Possibly out tmrw or Xmas eve but the poor thing is poorly so not guaranteed.:(

Roller: with both DS and DD I had low lying placenta at 20 week scan with recall for scan at 34 weeks (by which time vast majority lift up and out of the way) so I am guessing that is what happened, but I would second the recommendation you check with MW.

I have flu jab on Fri, but needed for both preg and caring for DD so I am ok with it. 200 week scan next week and hoping to play the sympathy card so they let us take both DD and DS in with DH and I to see the wiggler.

We definitely will not find the sex out, didn't for first two. Both times, Dh told me what we had at birth and it was really special. Personal view of course.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/12/2010 07:57

stripey - fingers crossed your DD is better enough to be home for Christmas.

We didn't find out the boy/girl thing when having DD, despite the number of scans we had, because you dont really get any surprises in life anymore. I think with me having a section as well, I'm glad we didn't find out, as we already "knew" when her birthday would be, so it was nice to have a surprise that day. However, the midwife did originally say "they're just cleaning HIM up" and I was smiling at DH and welcoming our son, DH looking a little perplexed and saying "erm..." for them to confirm she was a girl; the midwife who had been sitting next to me apparently calls them all boys?!

chester - I think it is normal to be worried for the 20 week scan. I have been worried before every scan I have had! When I had DD, I was nervous for the "12 week" that I had at week 14, namely because I'd been bleeding since week 13 and had to wait for the scan as they wouldn't see me given I already had something booked. I was really nervous for the 20 week in case they found anything wrong / serious. DH and I had always said we would carry on a pregnancy, but it was the idea of knowing something was wrong rather than worrying something could be wrong. I had several scans with DD as she was not a wriggler, so had to go in for monitoring a few times, plus she was breech so they kept checking that as they could never tell by feeling if she was upside down or not. I had a scan before being taken into theatre for the section, and I was really nervy for that one too, just in case they told me she had turned and I'd have to go through labour unprepapred given for 8 weeks or so we'd known I was having a scan Grin

mslucy · 23/12/2010 11:33

Just back from scan. All good.
As I suspected, It's another boy - DS3!
Really pleased as I love my boys

QwertyQueen · 23/12/2010 15:34

HI all just back from my scan - 18 weeks...
checked all the physical markers for DS and everything looked good so she halved my risk to 1:766, which is great.
Slight high pressure of the one artery into the placenta so will monitor closely... would stress affect that I wonder? Have been very stressed out of late. She said that that maybe what resulted in my PappA hormone being too high, which made the DS ration not great first time round.

She looked very cure, I must say.. approx 22cm long and she had hiccups whilst scanning :D
LOTS of pics of hands and feet and the profile, and even the girl's bits!

Let's all relax and enjoy our Christmas! I will most certainly be having a glass of champers Xmas Grin

runningmonkey · 23/12/2010 18:05

stripey I really hope your DD is well enough to come home for Christmas.

Great news on all the scans ladies. Looking forward to mine in 6 days time.

Unlikely I'll be on for a while although will try to report back on scan news so Happy Christmas to all x

Vicbic · 24/12/2010 07:48

Hi, not posted on here before but as I had my 20 week scan yesterday thought now is as good a time as any to start.
Due on 12th May and all seems well at the mo... Looks like it is a little girl.
Merry Christmas everyone!

linziluv · 24/12/2010 10:08

Hey everyone! Hope everyone is ok and ready for Xmas? I'm super excited! My DS is 2.7 so will be a good year!
I'm shocked at how little weight people have put on! I've put on 2 1/2 stone already! I only enjoy food when I'm pregnant so making the most of it! I put on 5 stone with my first and lost it easy enough so here's hoping!
Has anybody else been experiencing bad heart flutters! I've had them constant for about 4 days...got an appointment with GP but not till the 6th! Everything I've read suggests it's probs not serious but i'm still worried!!

sesamesmith · 24/12/2010 10:25

Yeah, good scan - 20 weeks yesterday. Thought it might be a boy and 80% chance it is. A little disappointed but happy nonetheless. With 14 year old stepson being 14, doesn't help with being attracted to boys, but I'm sure I'll love it just the same.

Was anyone else given a percentage chance of boy or girl? Is this standard practice? Are they just covering their backs?

Really good news for everyone - so pleased, especially Qwerty.

Does anyone know what difference it makes where the placenta lies? Apparently mine is low and at the back, which made it easier to feel kicks (14.5 weeks, first time pregnancy).

sesamesmith · 24/12/2010 10:48

Just noticed, we're getting near the end of this forum (40 pages isn't it?), so we need to think of another, eg halfway, forum...

Interesting article about survival: click here

jinglebellssantasmells · 24/12/2010 12:03

linzi- heart flutters r quite normal i think, i have had them in this pg and last, went to my dctors last time and they sed nothing to worry about

sesame- i got told last time that it was prob a girl but not to go out buying pink bcos they cudnt be sure as she was in an awkward position, she was a girl :)

Get well soon pisachio!

I am not off work til Wednesday and promiced DH that I wont be picking up my laptop until then so wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas and catch up then x Xmas Grin

Rollercoasteryears · 24/12/2010 18:51

Yes get well soon Pistachio, it's miserable being ill at Christmas.

Linziluv thank god someone else is putting on large amounts of weight too - I can't believe all these people who have only put on a few pounds halfway through!

Sesame in terms of whether the placenta is front or back, my understanding is that it doesn't make any difference, apart from the feel of the kicks. However, you may have seen my post above, my 20 week scan also showed my placenta as low lying and I've got to go back for another scan at 34 weeks - did they say that to you? My sonographer was crap and didn't explain what it meant, but from my own research on the internet, if the placenta stays low, it may well be a problem later on as it can block the cervix (which can lead to bleeding and mean you can't have a natural birth), but the vast majority move up on their own and don't cause a problem, hence having another scan at 34 weeks to check that it's done that.

All festive preps going well here - I've just put my first ever mince pie, carrot and glass of port on the hearth and am looking forward to filling my first ever stocking later this evening Xmas Smile. DS has opened his special new Christmas pyjamas with a reindeer on and so far all is as it should be. Bottle of cava chilling in the fridge, of which I will allow myself a festive glass later!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Tinwe · 25/12/2010 08:39

Hello all and Merry Christmas from the new MRS... Yes, the wedding went ahead and we're now in a little gap before the honeymoon which is hopefully in St Ives in Cornwall, starting in Monday. The day went just as we'd hoped, lots of romantic snow, candles, holly and ivy etc. Only a few people didn't make it but almost everyone important did.

We had our second 20 week scan the day before as bean wouldn't turn over during the first but as she wouldn't't turn over during the second either u had to eat chocolate and wiggle ny belly to avoid having to come back for a third. All looks good though and they think it's a girl! Bean just woke me up with excited kicks which I'm sure is a sign of things to come.

Full steam ahead with baby plans and house buying now. Our current house us literally icy with ice covering the inside of the windows so I'll be glad to go on honeymoon.

Anyway, enough about me. Welcome Vicbic, hope you're feeling better soon Pistachio and congrats on all good scan news. Lots of girls I see, we've started looking for names, any good sites you'd recommend?

Merry Christmas to all!

Glad everyone has had a nice christmas. Its so exciting hearing about all your scans. Ours is friday.
Tinwe congrats on the wedding enjoy your honeymoon, fingers crossed on the weather being kind.
Bump has been wriggling a bit, but DH can't feel anything on outside yet, 19+2.
My everlasting cold is a little easier, still got the chesty cough though. Had the flu jab last week and no ill effects, thankfully.
Enjoy the rest of the hols and i'll check in again after our scan.

sesamesmith · 26/12/2010 19:27

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO fed up of being ILL!!!!!!!

Been in bed for a week with bronchitis and sinusitis, AGAIN, apart from dragging myself to scan and friends' for Christmas lunch :(

Tinwe - so cool about your wedding.

Rollercoaster sonographer didn't say it was a problem, so presuming it's not that far down. Will question the midwife next time...

kiwigirlinlondon · 26/12/2010 23:28

Sorry to hear you're sick pistachio and sesamesmith - my husband has had bronchitis for 10 days now and I'm exhausted enough from looking after him and being woken all the time by his coughing! Thank goodness it's not me thats got it. And thanks for the article on survival rates. I'm quite paranoid so will breathe a sigh of relief when I get to 27 weeks

Have to admit I enjoyed my glass of Christmas champers :o

BrandyAlexander · 28/12/2010 21:54

Hi, merry christmas all! It's a long time since I posted as had a really miserable first trimester and didnt want to bring anyone else down. Hope everyone is doing well. We had our scan last week and are having a boy! Not telling anyone in RL so good to be able to say it out loud. DH is very very happy. Unfortunately I have fallen sick the last 24 hours so have been in bed most of the day. Being sick and pregnant is a nightmare, and DD has had it too, although she seems to be getting better now, thank goodness! Anyway, noticed a couple of other people weren't feeling too great, so hope they're better now. :)

jinglebellssantasmells · 29/12/2010 09:16

hello all, its very quiet on here lately, hope everyones had a nice festive period, i am now counting down the days to my 20 wk scan getting very nervous/xcited 6 days to go

has anyone else got scans soon?

fayc84 · 29/12/2010 11:18

I need to wait until new year for my scan. Jan 11 and I will be 21+1. This will be the first time hubby has been to an appointment with me and he is so excited about seeing/hearing the baby for the first time. And we can't wait to find out what we're having - makes no difference really as we would be happy either way but both really want to know. Can't wait!
