Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I've already had the flu (incl swine flu) jab as I think it's well worth it. There are so many people sick at the moment - I tried to take DH to the walk-in doctor yesterday and there was a 2.5 hour wait and some of the people in there looked really sick.

I had my scan on Friday and everything was fine - I was so relieved that I had a massive smile all day! The sonographer and my husband persuaded me to find out the gender. We're having a boy which was a bit of a surprise as even though we had no reason to think it, we'd both pictured us having a girl! It sounds crazy I know. So probably lucky we found out as it gives us time to get used to the idea. One good thing about finding out was that as soon as she said it, it felt more real and a tear of happiness welled up in my eyes :-)

Good luck everyone else for their scans

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 17:09

ahhh kiwi- congrats on a lil boy, im really hoping my instincts r right and im having a boy

zinnia · 20/12/2010 17:48

Hello all
really sorry I've not been around for a couple of weeks - am completely overwhelmed with imminent house move (Wednesday), sick toddler (again) and still trying to get rid of the world's most obstinate thrush infection (3 weeks and counting). Oh yes, and my theoretically full-time job [hollow laugh].

Anyway just thought I'd stick my head round the door to say hello, am still alive and having another girl (confirmed on Friday at most enjoyable scan with fab brand new ultrasound machine that showed fantastic detail). Also had v reassuring chat with sonographer about my combined test results so am feeling more relaxed about that now.

Haven't had a chance to catch up with the thread, so apols for no name checks, but hope everyone's well and not to Christmassed out.

Not sure if we'll have broadband straight away in the new house, so may not be able to pop back till the new year - in which case, happy holidays everyone!

DontWorryBaby · 20/12/2010 17:49

Congrats kiwi - I agree that knowing if it's a boy or a girl makes it more real. Easier to think of him/her as a little person.

There's some kind of talk on swine flu vaccine on mumsnet tmrw lunchtime. Got an email about it today. Sorry can't give more info, posting from phone!

jinglebellssantasmells · 20/12/2010 17:58

ahhh zinnia congrats on a girl - i wonder wot the ratio boy to girl will be by the end of the scans

MummyWilliams · 20/12/2010 20:02

Hi all...

i dont know yet either pistatio

MummyWilliams · 20/12/2010 21:09

pistachio that was the anomaly scan. Next one will be a blood flow scan (this is because I have had previous very high blood pressure in pregnancy).

I have the midwife coming to the house on 27th December for a listen to the heartbeat. Although, I am feeling lots of movement now, and little flicks (kicks) - so may go every fortnight for a listen in, after the 27th instead of having it done weekly. - Gosh! that makes me feel brave!!!

Hope everyone knows that you should feel at least 10 movements a day from 24 weeks.

mslucy · 20/12/2010 21:32

hello.
Lovely to hear all the scan news - have mine on Thurs; can't wait to find out what it is.
Most people who see me say boy (I have 2 already) and my instincts are heading that way. But we may be in for a suprise.

LOADS of movement - it's going for it like mad as I'm sitting here. Must be a mumsnet fan Grin.

stripeybumpsmum · 20/12/2010 22:03

Hello all. Typing this on phone from hosp camp bed. Hopes of a quiet xmas and a few days off chemo out of the window as DD has been admitted as an emergency with an infection. Tedious! I had my TV viewing planned for the next few days, and my strange pg diet to keep sickness at manageable levels (coke with milk anyone?)
Baby bump wise, ok ish. Like siblings, most movement early evening and esp in the bath

sesamesmith · 20/12/2010 22:33

Noticed today that the little thing wriggles when it can hear daddy's voice - strange & cool!

MummyW I'm the same - can't believe it! Feels like razor wire in my nose, throat and lungs Xmas Sad

Zinnia I've been having Actimel for weeks now and it is the first and only thing that has got rid of my thrush naturally - worth a try, tastes nice, and full of calcium.

Re weight I've put on nearly a stone, eek, but thought that was normal. Gone from 8st10 to 9st6. My legs etc seem just the same. Loving hubby's birthday cake though, chocolate fudge cake, home-made by Yours Truly!

sesamesmith · 20/12/2010 22:40

Oh, and went to a loud pub gig on Saturday - baby seemed quite disturbed, but played in classical music concert/carols yesterday, baby was settled Xmas Smile

cowboylover · 20/12/2010 23:12

Hello all! It's been a busy few days on here.
Trying to type on DHs iPhone and it's wierd so sorry for no name checks but congratulations to all the scan news, is there more girls than boys?

Hopefuly going to my scan in the morning but think I should face it soon that I might not be able to get there as not been able to move the car since Thursday and we have had more snow since then and it's 45 mins drive in good conditions.

Catch up more tomorrow x

Keep safe out there Loopy! I just cant believe how much snow we have had, works been a nightmare with closed pubs, stuck lorries and failed deliveries so I will be glad when its over; I dont think I can cope with many more 14 hour days.

The lovely My Cowboy was up at 6 this morning clearing the snow off the car and digging us out so after a steady drive we made it to the hospital and had our scan!

They said all was doing well and healthy so all my panicing that I have made the baby sick with the amount ofcolds I have had it wrong.

We are having a girl! I dont know hy but I am a little suprised as been saying him for ages now. I am just so excited and it makes it feel so real: My thoughts over the last few months have been that I am not just pregnant but actually having a baby and now the fact that the baby will be our daughter makes it feel even more real Xmas Grin

The Next sale starts soon and I am so excited to go shopping for her x

Rollercoasteryears · 21/12/2010 15:24

Hello everyone, congratulations to all those with good scan news to report!

Stripey sorry to hear you're back in hospital with DD. Is there a risk you'll both be stuck there over Christmas?

loopy did you make it into work?

I finally made my 20 week scan (actually 21+2 today) today (you may recall my disaster last week when I missed it by 15 mins due to train problems) - of course today, we get there and they're running "very late" - cue wait of 1h10 with stroppy toddler and very full bladder! The scan itself was a very disappointing experience - the sonographer wasn't very patient-friendly, she hardly spoke to us, when she did it was really quietly and with a strong accent and I often wasn't sure if she was talking to us or her helper! So I basically came away having no idea what had happened. DH is no clearer as he was trying to control DS at the time. We think all looks fine with the baby, but I was told I needed another scan at 34 weeks to monitor something - wasn't clear at the time what, but my notes refer to a "low lying anterior placenta", which I gather from a quick surf of the internet usually sorts itself out, but if not, can cause problems including bleeding and resulting in a C section (bang goes the planned home birth if so) - anyone got any experience of this? Sonographer was so unclear I think I might ring the midwife for guidance, as others on the internet seem to have been given advice such as take it v easy, no sex or heavy lifting - I wasn't told anything...

Kirk1 · 21/12/2010 18:27

Oh, Rollercoaster sounds like you had a rough one Sad. Deffo ring your MW, she'll be able to talk you through the results and put your mind at rest. It sounds like something which usually sorts itself out, I think the advice you mention is usually given later on in the pregnancy if there's still a problem.

Cowboylover That's great news :)

I had my scan today too, mine's a boy. DD was with me and is happy about it, she enjoyed seeing the baby on the monitor. All well here too, very active baby (I think he objected to being scanned, he tried to move out of the picture...) all bits present and correct!

QwertyQueen · 21/12/2010 18:40

Rollercoasteryears, that is so disappointing!
Def a good idea to talk through the notes with the midwife....
