Jbells I'm impressed you're actually planning to leave the house in the evening - I can't remember the last time I did that! The chance of prising me off the sofa past 8pm is currently non existent...

Qwerty when you say the others weren't planning a natural birth, do you mean they were all planning c-sections or lots of drugs?

I also told lots of people pre-scan this time round pootros - it was just too much effort to hide it when I was feeling so ropey and starting to show early too (hardly told anyone the first time though). I completely agree re needing support in the event of MC - the only downside I can potentially see is if you then have a scan which shows serious abnormalities and you have a very difficult decision to make - in that situation, I'm guessing the fewer people there are to stick their oar in, the better...

fijibaby · 20/10/2010 20:56

Hello all!

Welcome pootros!

Qwerty good on you for planning to go natural. Apparently 80% of 1st time mums in NZ have epidural.

Zinnia so glad eveything turned out well in the end of your hospital visit. Do these doctors actually consider what effect their words will have? Angry

I'm with Rollercoasteryears on telling people. We didn't get a choice with pg1 as I posted previously but with this one I'm just telling people who's support is important. I did tell my beautician (she asked directly) and she was horrified that I told her at 6weeks (why ask then??) - "You won't be telling anyone else will you?"

As for 'wind'... it's not a marriage threatening issue in our house... yet, but last time almost was Blush. DH is amused as normally he is the major offender but just blames the gekkos!

Today I will get organised to email the obstetrician in Auckland and get on their list, I'll be heading back there for nuchal scan so will have to get flights booked, arrange to stay with my mum etc. We went private last time for the ease of getting to appointments and dealing with doctors in another country and it was such a wonderful experience that we're going to do it all again. I'm already dreaming about Birthcare, the post natal care place... I'd be there now if I could!!

I'm still EXHAUSTED and hoping that it wears off soon, hope the nausea is settling down for most people and that you have a fantastic day!

Oh and THANK YOU MummyWilliams for our shiny new thread. Love the name Smile

Hi All, too numerous to keep up with!

Funny about the wind - dear hubby just asked me if it was my habit to stink up rooms and then leave - charming! Don't think there's anything I can do other than move computer to another room and see him in another 7 months or so!

Thanks Loopy - feeling much more positive since got the morning sickness back with a vengeance yesterday - how ironic is that?!!!! Don't think I've ever suffered from hormones/neurosis before, expect at certain times of the month, waiting for dear hubby to propose (5 years on!).

My adult student (also a close friend) sent me a text today: "U had a glow about u 2day - is ther sumthing u haven't told me?". Can't be hiding it very well, I think, despite feeling pale and skinny, except for the obvious small bulge... Trying to hold fire on the maternity wear but raiding the wardrobe for those clothes long since mothballed due to losing weight, and flying low much of the time, tee hee. I have succumbed and ordered some gorgeous, catch-all jumpers from M&S - bad girl!

Tinwe · 21/10/2010 07:50

Hi all!

Thanks so much for all the sympathy about my gossipy friend. Am still miffed at her telling all. Have to admit pootros, I wouldn't tell as many people if I was in this position again- have discovered you can't trust people to keep it to themselves :(

Will tell my DP about the wind problem which so far i'm lucky enough to have avoided and perhaps he'll be more sympathetic when I winge about other things! :)

So glad to hear all the happy scan news. Really cheers me up to log on and hear all the good news :) Because i've asked to swap hospitals they've moved my scan date back again- now it's Wed. Very excited but nervous like everyone else.

Good news about your maternity jeans cowboylover Over the last week i've really thickened up, been advised I look fat rather than pregnant! Was expecting that though. Couldn't find any decent maternity clothes when I tried shopping last and ended up overdoing it. Will try online shopping- apart from Next which brand would people recommend?

jbells · 21/10/2010 08:20

morning all hope everyone had a good nite, i had a nice time at the pics except my friend is one of those who chats all the way thru grrr but was nice to get out the house even if it was only till quatre to 9 dont think id be able to stay out much later than that at mo

rollercoaster- i try to get myself out once a week or so with my two best friends from school keeps my sanity, as every other adult i speak to has children or r family, its nice to have child free conversations the same way as i did when i was 18 even if it just for 2 hours :o

tinwe- i never really bought any mat wear last time except a couple of pairs of jeans from topshop that were quite nice fitting and comfy, ive heard H&M have quite a nice mat range and u can buy online now, this time round im planning to have a couple of pairs of my normal jeans made into mat jeans by cutting panels out the side and putting elastic in, as most mat jeans seem to be so long and baggy on my legs

sesame- i always feel grey and washed out in pregnancy never get where the glowing thing comes from Hmm

thanks loopy- did u go anywhere nice?

fiji- glad you had such a nice experience last time, i think its definately worth the expense if u can affors to go private, i had my first thru and nhs and will be with this one to but after watching portland babies the level of care privately definately looks so much better, mayb ill win some money from now till then, i looked into private but the only private birthing hospital was around 2 hours away, dont want to be travelling that distance while in labour :(

qwerty- wot do u mean by natural birth, do u mean the others were planning to take drugs or were planning c-sections?

Rollercoasteryears · 21/10/2010 10:56

tinwe re maternity clothes, mine are a mixture of jojomamanbebe, mamas and papas and some seraphine (though the last is mostly from first preg, not looked recently - jojos and mamas currently have some lovely things though!)

fijibaby · 21/10/2010 10:59

jbells we did the standard hospital delivery which was excellent and went from there to postnatal care; not sure what happens in UK hospitals but in NZ they kick you out after 3hrs. Thankfully both were only 10mins from home so no frantic dashing around the city with contractions coming thick and fast! In the event I probably could have given birth in a field hanging on to a coconut tree (as they do in the villages here) but it was very nice to have midwife on call for the 1st couple of days.

sesame how lovely to be glowing, you must feel really good about that - even if people aren't supposed to notice this early Smile

rollercoaster read on the stats list that you are in St Albans and have been meaning to say hi. Was born and raised there and have moments of nostalgia for the place. Ahhh... so many memories!

QwertyQueen · 21/10/2010 12:07

I mean they were planning C-sections....
Have a natural birth - with or without drugs - doesn't seem to feature here!
In fact our closest hospital is referred to as Caesar's Palace!

I managed to have DS1 with just gas and air (in water), but it seems like it might be hard to do that here :(

zinnia · 21/10/2010 12:58

Hello all
sorry not to respond to everyone but am insanely busy today - only about 2 hours in the office today as DH and I are off for a (kid-free!) weekend in Florence for a friend's 40th which quite frankly is the glamour highlight of this or any other year though I'm paying for it in lack of work time..

Anyway, had 12 week scan this morning and all well. Nuchal fold was fine and they'll call me next week if anything untoward comes up on the blood test, but so nice to have that over with! I've also just "come out" at work. Eek.

Southpacificfish yours is today too isn't it? Hope all OK.

QwertyQueen · 21/10/2010 13:34

zinnia!!! what great news :)
and off to Florence, wonderful! Enjoy!!!
Big day for you :)

southpacificfish · 21/10/2010 17:30

yes Zinnia mine was today too, pleased yours was all ok. No problems to report my end either, I am 12+4 which means I'm actually due 1st May. They don't test nuchal in the same way anymore in my hospital as they did with DD, they take blood instead to do a more "accurate" test. Only problem with this is that you don't get the results until you are 16 weeks so if there is anything untoward (it's not just Downs that they are checking for) and you opt for a termination it's a much worse procedure.

But hey, what am I saying, we're all happy mummy's and our pregnancies will be fine!

Zinnia enjoy your weekend in Florence, we are also off to Cambridge for the weekend child free - not quite as glamorous but good to be away.

Tinwe don't worry about looking fat, I do too at the moment, it soon turns into a hard bump!

Rollercoasteryears · 21/10/2010 18:07

Hi fijibaby! I'm not St Albans born and bred, we moved here when I was pregnant with DS in 2008, but it's a lovely place to live.

Zinnia and southpacific so pleased your scans were fine too.

jbells · 21/10/2010 19:37

hi all, i have had quite a nice day today DD was in nursery and seems i got laid off from my job had a day to myself, so i took myself shopping to liverpool which i havnt done in as long as i can remember and treated myself to some maternity clothes i didnt buy any last time round except one pair of jeans the choice seems a lot more fashionable this time round, made sure i bought stuff that i cud still wear even if i wasnt pregnant also got DD an outfit, then went for lunch with my brother,3:15 then an old friend came round for an hour and just as she was leaving DP came back from his business trip, all in all a good day very tired now tho

zinnia- southpacific, really glad your scans went well :) hope u both enjoy your child free wkend i cud do with booking one of those b4 DC2 arrives :o

qwerty- how strange, i dont think they give u the option for c-section here unless there is a danger to u or baby, they really push for a natural birth, i wonder y there so different

fiji, wow they only give u 3 hours, i got moved from labour ward to mat ward after about an hour or so, but then i was on mat ward for 3 days (unfortunately)

Jbells very jealous of your day today, that sounds heavenly being out shopping alone!

Loopy Sorry you feel so awful, hope you're feeling better after a good nights sleep.

pootros · 21/10/2010 21:42

wow thanks for all the welcomes!! Fab that there's so many people active on here!

qwertyqueen- that's mad - how can they all be " planning" CSs?were they all second timers? our local health authority won't pay for CS for maternal insistence request anymore.

Tinwe , Rollercoasteryears, I followed the links to all those gorgeous clothes sites and lost FAR too much time! they are all favourited . Bbut how do you plan ahead re sizes to take advantage of the sales? Do you Blush just plan to be a pregnant version of your normal size when you're 38 weeks?! ( that sounds far too naive!! ) do you just have to wait and see how masseeeve you end up!!

southpacificfish · 22/10/2010 11:36

pootros at 38 weeks you pinch your husbands clothes! lol but yes, you basically buy maternity clothes for your normal dress size and you don't sound naive at all, I thought when I was pregnant 1st time round I'd have to buy bigger sizes until I started trying things on and realised you just buy for your normal size! I found lots of empire line clothes were great and I think I lived in 2 pairs of jeans for about 6 months.

LOL @ "asking my mother for her kaftan"!!!!!!

cowboylover · 22/10/2010 14:05

I love my comfy maternity jeans but they do fall down and im missing the pockets! Nice not to be totally restricted to leggins.

Went out with work last night for 'informal' meeting drinks and a meal. Enjoyed the drinks as had gorge non-alchohol free cocktails but then we didnt eat until 9, the food in Jamies Italian was not great and I didnt get home until 12.15 and had an upset tummy all night so im ruined today and just cant cope with feeling this tired. Gone are the days when I can be out all night and survive a day at work after! [hsad] Dont know how I am going to cope with the party season fast approaching.

jbells · 22/10/2010 19:15

hello everyone, just a quick message while DP is putting DD to bed, i cant find good mat jeans either, thats y ive decided just to convert my own apparantly this is wot victoria beckham did when she was pregnant

cowboylover- dont know how u stayed awake till 12, by 10 im falling asleep on couch

loopy- i put on almost 4 stone to went from 8 stone to almost 12 last time :( was a bugger to shift to first 2 stone dropped of but i still had ten pound to lose when i got pregnant this time, i did stuff my face tho so trying to be a bit more sensible this time round, so far at 11 weeks i have put on 1.5lbs lets c wot im saying at 38 weeks haha

southpacific- like u from about 6 months i had one pair of jeans and one pair of leggins that i lived i and a pair of slouchy tracksuit bottoms for the house that i looked very fetching in (honest) :o

pootros- theres no way our health authority wud let just choose to have a c-section either altho afta my first birth id be tempted

oh good news im slowly starting to feel more normal and the sickness has eased a lot, still picky with wot i can eat but big improvement yay :)

cowboylover · 22/10/2010 20:21

Nice one JBells!

My eyes are burning and how ever much I want to spend some time with DH as hes working 12 hour shifts all weekend I just have to go to bed now [hsad]

Tinwe · 22/10/2010 20:25

Glad to hear you're starting to feel better jbells :) my nausea has swapped to a constantly over-full feeling and most frustratingly my weirdly loud and random hiccups are still there. Very embarrassing at work as i'll be talking in some important meeting and suddenly HHARRUP! just once and everyone thinks I've belched! Apologies and explanations all round then after another 10mins, same again.

pootros re: maternity clothes, i'm a different size in different shops at best of times so have no idea what size i'd be in maternity brands. A friend of mine put on 5 stone during her pregnancy so i'm very conscious of not buying too much until I see how I go. Very motivated to keep an eye on my weight too as I have a wedding dress to wear at 21weeks- not much hope as i'm already struggling to wear even my loosest clothes. Have bought some maternity stuff off ebay so will just have to see how it goes :) not skilled enough to adapt my clothes jbells ... Much respect at your creativity tho! loopymumsy can you remember which brand your good jeans which you gave away were?
