Can someone explain to me why I have developed a school girl style crush on John Simm? There is no predictability with hormones at the moment ?!

nymphadora · 20/10/2010 18:55

seashells John SIMM is yum!

ivy hope you are in labour now!

Anyone else on for 20102010 baby? If you get a move on they could be born 20:10 too?

Lizkin · 20/10/2010 19:36

Dear ladies,

Very belated, my apologies, but I've been nowhere near my computer for a couple of weeks - but now I'm feeling more up to it I wanted to let you know that DD was born two weeks ago (6/10), weighing just under 6lbs and is doing well!

I went in to be induced on the 6th and things went pretty fast, and very painfully (I live in a country where they don't believe in pain relief for labour...) First stage went fast, pushing stage was slow and v hard as babe was facing the wrong way and had her chin sticking out. Ended up being snipped with a big pair of scissors (glad I didn't see the scissors!) and suddenly babe was there, yelling for all she was worth. Then had to be stitched up.

Two weeks on, babe is still getting the hang of breastfeeding, but doing better than she was and is putting on weight. It's great to see her getting stronger. Coping with thrush at the moment, but otherwise she's well. Taking each day as it comes and setting myself targets - today I will get dressed, tomorrow we'll try going out, etc etc. And she's gorgeous - must remember to enjoy every minute before she gets big...

Will try and read others' stories and catch up, best of luck to those still waiting and well done to the already-delivered!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/10/2010 20:01

Lizkin - congratulations on your little girl! Where are you if not the uk? I hope you have help around. It does get easier :)

Nymph- phew! I watched state of play back to back and emerged with quite a crush. James macafoy didn't do it for me- dh is laughing at me Blush

Hermya321 · 20/10/2010 20:29

Seashells Thats not your hormones talking, that is your sensible side making an appearence. John Simm is lovely and should be recognized as such.

I loved State of Play. Also love James McAvoy though too

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/10/2010 21:12

Hmm, he was cute but not crush worthy. Inknew I would find kindred spirits here:)

Sorry ladies, how is that ball bouncing going? Any 20102010 babies turning up?

floozietoozie · 20/10/2010 21:25

OMG, John Simm AND James McAvoy in one drama together???? [Runs off to order DVD with immediate effect]. Computer swimming in drool.

Congratulations to SamB, tiredfeet and Lizkin! Lizkin, glad you posted, was getting a little concerned about you. What country are you in - I'm nosy curious too? I know my Spanish friend said if you don't order an epidural in advance, you can't have one on the day.

I have just finished (I hope!) a SIX-hour feedathon. DD has just gone from one feed to another basically, getting very upset if I try to put her down or not feed her. I've been getting quite worried, although I know from reading that this is common - it is, right, experienced bfers? She is three weeks now and that's supposed to be one of the growth spurts isn't it? I should be going to bed this very instant to make most of rest, as last night I went from feeding, to expressing, went to get some cereal, back to lie down - dd wanted feeding again! This was over a three hour period....

To all still waiting - labour vibes coming your way. Brain now dead, can't remember anything else, see you in the middle of the night...

floozietoozie · 20/10/2010 21:31

Have just ordered it on Lovefilm and put it high priority....

nymphadora · 20/10/2010 21:35

floozie yes 3 weeks is a growth spurt!

Big dds just back from 2010 celebrations am bit Envy as it sounds like a good night but dd3 would have been too cold. In the end she was sick all over me at 20:05 so wouldn't have been good in a field

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/10/2010 21:51

Floozie- it's the six part series not the film- it's even got bill nighy David morrisey, Philip glenster yum yum yum

Feeding sounds like a growth spurt - normally 24hrs until your supply catches up. Drink lots of water and rest whilst you can :)

BackAgain · 20/10/2010 23:06

DH has just got up to sleep in the spare bedroom as "you are snoring so loud I can't hear the tv". Not offended as side effect of pregnancy just wished he hadn't woken me to tell me!

BackAgain · 20/10/2010 23:07

Congratulations on your little girl lizkin hope the bfing continues to improve

shieldbug · 20/10/2010 23:32

Good to hear from you lizkin. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. I had wondered what had happened, but assumed that the silence meant good news!

Hermya good news about your mil. Sounds like you are nesting big style!

Mmm...John Simm, James McAvoy....

I was really upset this afternoon as the consultant appointment basically showed that I have made no progress at all since last week. Sproglet shows no signs at all of being born any time soon so I am booked in for induction next Wednesday, when I will be 11 days overdue Sad. I had another sweep, but I am not optimistic about it having any effect, especially as it said in my notes "sweep attempted"- doesn't fill me with confidence.

vikks any news yet?

nymphadora · 21/10/2010 08:12

seashells film not bad either!

Lizkin · 21/10/2010 08:20

Good morning all,

Thanks for the good wishes - I live in the Netherlands, for the curious! When I tell people that pain relief is standard in the UK, they look at me in disbelief - Dutch culture has a strong Calvinistic (masochistic) side, kind of, don't make a fuss, life is tough so get used to it, attitude. The idea of pain relief wasn't even mentioned when I went into hospital. And at one point quite late in labour, when I was getting pretty worn out from the pushing, DH said to me - don't worry, if it gets really bad, we can go for an epidural, at which the midwife laughed out loud - it was way too late for that, she said! So we pressed on (literally)...

Sorry to those like Shieldbug who are still waiting and not seeing any progress - I found eating lots of dried figs, sitting cross-legged and drinking loads of water seemed to prompt my waters breaking early - didn't mean to do it but that's what happened! Pressure down below in all areas... Probably also because I was taking iron tablets too. Looking back I think it was a pity my waters broke so soon, it made life harder for the babe and labour was more difficult. But it was really good she came out, I had had high blood pressure in the weeks beforehand and she wasn't growing very well.

For others who are breastfeeding, watch out for thrush! White marks on baby's tongue that look like milk but don't come off when you wipe. I didn't spot the signs till her tongue was completely covered, and now we've both got it, me on my nipples (ouch) and her in her mouth and a bit on her bum, though it's getting a lot better now that we have the medicine. Am hoping it will clear up but it's taking a while and giving her the meds is a bit of a pain - have to keep dipping your finger into the medicine and rubbing inside her mouth, takes ages and it's messy and poor babe has to cope with cruel mum forcing her to keep opening her mouth.

But otherwise, things are fine! Breastfeeding going better since I was told that sitting up is easier for DD than lying down, and she now sucks like a trooper most of the time.

Have a good day all.

Vikks · 21/10/2010 08:55

Lizkin Great to hear from you, congratulations! You sound very brave, I would not like to go into labour knowing there was no pain relief.

Ivy Thinking of you this morning? Did things get started or are you going into hospital today?

Shield My 42 week appointment is booked for next Wednesday too but they said they might see me a little earlier if they are quiet. They didn?t mention starting induction on that day, just doing tests! Hmm
I had another ?sweep attempt? yesterday and although it couldn?t be done properly?.dare I say it?..I think it?s done something!

TMI Alert- What I thought was just a bit of blood from the sweep attempt, I?m now sure has turned into a ?show?! So I finally feel like my cervix is giving up the fight with Harry?s head! MW has recommended lots of hip rotations, not easy with the way mine are feeling at the moment. I know it can still be a long time after you?ve had a show but I can?t help but feel a little more positive this morning. My body is finally doing something it should! Grin

40+8!!! Another sweep tomorrow?.hope I don?t need it! x

floozietoozie · 21/10/2010 08:55

Hermya I'm glad your mil is getting better. What a worry that must have been. Hope she doesn't have any more attacks.

Ds is snotty so dp is keeping him off nursery today and I gave beginnings of a cold. Hope it doesn't amount to much.

BionicEar · 21/10/2010 10:01

Linkins - congrats on safe arrival of your daughter. Sorry to hear you've both got Thrush and hope it clears up quickly.

Hermya glad to hear your MIL is back home and on the mend - must have been a worrying time for the family.

Ivy - hopefully by now you are nursing a baby, and managed to avoid being induced.

Vikks hope that the show is the start of something very soon for you - how exciting!

DD went to the Guiding celebration last night. We seized the opportunity to go out for a meal together as fig it would be some time before we'll be able to get quality time together. Was most amused on DD return that the thing that had excited her most about the Guiding Celebration was the chemical loos! Grin That's a 5yrs old for you! Though she is most pleased she has the group bear this week, just have pressure on now to have baby before next Wed so she can have photo with baby and James Bear!

BackAgain · 21/10/2010 10:08

No baby here yet, I think he expects me to find him.

I went to a coffee morning yesterday (full of pregnant types and new Mums) and had a good old time eating biscuits and playing with the most lovely six week old baby girl. I even got a smile out of her.

I did also have a bit of a smug Mumsnet moment though with one of the other Mums who was breastfeeding. She was talking about how she hated lifting her jumper up in public to breastfeed as it exposed her tummy. I then pipped up and told her about the two vest top trick (one goes up, one goes down) or that she could wear a boob tube. She said, 'oh I never thought of that'. I then got to tell one of the other Mums that yes you can get underwired feeding bras, they're just a bit pricey. All this I learnt from lurking around Mumsnet. [hgrin]

Congrats Lizkin

Hope baby is already here Ivy

Feeling a little bit green around the gills this morning. Have been for a haircut and eaten some stodgey junk food and feel a little better. I also bought some carpet cleaner so going to be on all fours for the majority of this afternoon Grin

On the upside DCs are at their Dad's this afternoon which means I don't have to go anywhere else today and me and DP can have a hot curry and other things that are meant to shift babies :o

Have also just found out that a book I've been waiting for is being released on Nov 2nd so trying to concentrate on that and trying to remember how I managed to breastfeed and hold a book at the same time!

Vikks · 21/10/2010 11:50

BackAgain My sweeps were 40+5, 40+7 and tomorrow 40+9. x

Xavielli Enjoy your curry and other things! Grin

Hope we get some good news from Ivy soon!

jessebelle · 21/10/2010 11:59

SamanthaB - Thanks for advice - really meant a lot at the time & I totally agree. And woo hoo on Ruby Mae (another lovely name!)

Ninth - positive birth story - bit like mine - I'll try explain it in a new post...

Yep, sorry for the silence, but my mobile phone is ancient so couldn't post and I was stuck in hospital from Saturday morning (giving birth to a baby boy of 8lb) to Tuesday afternoon. I am now at home but completely and utterly sleep deprived. Baby awake feeding most of the night until 5am-ish when he seems to start sleeping & at hospital I could take advantage of this but not at home...DD1 awake from 6am & busy with her until 8.40am when she goes to school (my partner helps get her ready but she's not very good at understanding to leave me & baby alone). In fact baby has been asleep almost solidly now from 6am but I find my bodyclock and breakfast needs don't allow me to sleep at this time in the morning - GRRRR! so that's almost 6 hours of daytime naps I've missed out on sharing with baby now!

Been trying to catch up on messages too - Well Done also due to Muggles, NinthWave, Lizkin (no pain relief - scissors - eeeeek) , tiredfeet and Sam12 and GOOD LUCK to all those waiting - the wait will be over somehow soon - I really had lost hope!

Will post birth story shortly - baby has got ONE name sorted: I think we're pretty set on Maximilian for his first name - probably not most people's cup of tea but Max/Maxie seems to be the only name we can all agree on as a family!!!! But I'm still ahmming and ahhing about his middle names! Hmmmmmm. Until I do I don't feel like 'announcing' his birth and I'm going a bit bonkers making the choice and living in 'limbo' of another kind.

Good luck to all whose births are imminent - I was there, overdue, and it's sooooo frustrating being given false signals here and some tantalising symptoms just out of reach etc etc. But really the only thing you should do is enjoy the time you have pre-baby because while I'm totally in love staring at him for hours & cuddling non-stop I'm a braindead nervous & grumpy wreck at the same time!

jessebelle · 21/10/2010 12:00

I should explain my labour didn't last four days btw, but we were kept in for observations... he was born on the Saturday evening.
