Silver I leave DS until he's woken me up in the night, during the day I generally don't let him go more than two to three hours especially if we're out.

Ooooo if anyone is interesting cloth nappy tree have a Slings for sale section which I'm currently paroosing. They've got some wrap style slings on there for about £20ish. I don't know what your budgets are though so I don't know if this is too much.

nymphadora · 24/11/2010 16:09

Gave up & bought a cheap carrier thing today. If she agrees I'll buy a sling but I need something this weekend as town is v busy & won't get a pram round. hermya worth a visit if you are looking fora day out!
Anyone know about mulled wine & breast feeding?

Regarding sleep dd3 has decided sleep is for the weak during the day & is doing max of 30 mins. Going to haveto start using the cot as she sleepsfine at night

SilverSky · 24/11/2010 16:14

H as you - he dictates at night and during day I am not going to let him go longer than three hrs. Anyone else finding it quite hard being out and about and scheduling in nappies/feeding??

I think I need to be more organised in that as soon as he is changed/fed we head out otherwise we end up heading out as he needs changing/feeding and it all goes arse up.

Will look into those slings!! Ta!

HermyaAndThePomBears · 24/11/2010 16:49

Silver I tend to top him up before I go out and that seems to work for us. Mind you DS does love to feed and will tend to latch on when I flash him the boob. I always have the changing bag packed up as well. Though I must admit I am often late for things as DS tends to need nappy change as soon as he spies the snow suit and car seat.

Nymph I read somewhere the other day that between five and eight weeks, babies tend to become more alert and this can lead to them being over stimulated thus becoming grizzly and irritable. DS has also started to fight sleep and the breast at the moment and he's starting to require the dummy more to settle himself to sleep. We do use the dummy at night, but of late he won't settle during the day unless he sucking the damn thing. I've tried him at the breast, but he tends to get beyond himself and just screams at me. Maybe I need to start watching his cues more.

Does anyone elses child scream their heads off in the car seat. DS can't stand his, he just screams as soon as I head anywhere near it.

DillyDora · 24/11/2010 16:50

Re going out changing and feeding - we have a coffee morning for the antenatal group every Friday and I have to bf through the whole thing every time!! The other babies sleep through or sit quietly, mine feeds a chucks up Blush

Have I said the Kari Me is really good and only about £35. Nice and snuggly and has the added benefit of helping DS bring up his wind....

Nymph mulled wine is positively a health supplement - it can do you no harm Winkno, ok I know it's alcoholic so I suppose the usual rules apply....

HermyaAndThePomBears · 24/11/2010 16:52

Silver I go from when he's finished as his tummy is emptying not filling.

HermyaAndThePomBears · 24/11/2010 16:53

Dilly DS did that last week and this week, you're not alone.

DillyDora · 24/11/2010 17:00

Thanks Hermya Wink we don't have a child seat but DS does the fighting sleep thing which is making going out tricky as he just wants to be involved or feed to soothe himself but won't just sleep through things anymore - he is indeed 5 weeks old.... he's always been a really alert baby - all the drs commented on it since birth but now it's obviously getting a bit much for him... o well!

DillyDora · 24/11/2010 17:00

have just posted about bfing issuehere if anyone has any ideas...

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 24/11/2010 18:00

Dilly- my Ds was super alert too so I would have to settle him in his pram with a coat or blanket covering it so he couldn't see out-if I caught him he would go to sleep, thankful of finally no stimuli!

Dd is really fussing early evening, but doing one 7 HR stretch at night which is amazing!

It's a certain big birthday for me today-Ds celebrated it with a whopping temp as he is cutting his final teeth ho hum. Dd is smiling and cooing and being everso cute to make up for it.

Anyone know how to avoid green poos in dd?

nymphadora · 24/11/2010 19:28

Happy birthday seashells

SilverSky · 24/11/2010 19:39

Shells I think someone said that green poo can be a sign of wind..??? Happy happy birthday!!!!

DillyDora · 24/11/2010 19:49

Seashells HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Thanks for the advice, will try it! V jealous about the 7 hrs!
x

sam12 · 24/11/2010 20:24

Happy birthday seashells
I too am jealous about the 7 hours.
Dd has given me a fright this evening. She started to choke and couldn't breathe, she went bright red and her eyes were watering. It's amazing how many things can run through your mind in such a short time and i I kept thinking that an ambulance wouldn't make it in time. Anyway with a vague recollection of first aid from when I worked in childrens homes I managed to dislodge whatever it was and she threw up everywhere. She was fine after all smiley and cooing whilst I was all shaky and feeling overwhelmed by what a massive responsibility having a baby is!

dontstopmenow · 24/11/2010 21:46

Oh dear Sam that is really really scary. I wonder what she had stuck?! Glad you managed to dislodge it in time.

SeaShells I think that in the breast feeding group I go to, someone mentioned that green poo is due to baby only getting the first milk, not the hind milk with all the calories in it at the feed.

Colic persists in Dd. I shall be cutting out dairy for a couple of days now to see if that works. I drink lots of milk so it will be a struggle, I don't eat that much citrus fruit so it can't be that. Will try the peppermint tea idea too. :)

SilverSky · 24/11/2010 21:56

stoppers at what point do they get the hind milk?

sam bloody hell! It is scary! Well done for acting so quick! What did you do? Lay on lap face down and slap back?

SilverSky · 24/11/2010 22:19

DS fed for an hour at 6pm finishing at just after 7pm. He had a short nap and just woke up so I changed and fed him. He only fed for 15 mins and has gone back to sleep!!! Perhaps he will be hungry at 11pm making it four hrs between the feeds? It's not the first time he has had random 10-15min feeds.

I have tried stroking his feet/cheek and blowing on his head but he is v sleepy ! Prob due to not sleeping much today.

Any tips???

HermyaAndThePomBears · 25/11/2010 08:02

Silver Do your boobs feel empty? DS only feeds for ten to fifteen minutes at a time and seems to empty the boob. Sometimes DS only feeds for five minutes and it's more of a snacky feed. During the day I don't do much but at night I tend to change his nappy and that wakes him up.

nymphadora · 25/11/2010 08:46

dd3 slept from 8pm til 2 last night. Dh & I were up for 2 hours worrying Blush. She then had a good feed & back down til 7am. Ready for Harry Potter now, jsut waiting for dh to come back & keep us clean. Have a huge bag of spare clothes as we are out for lunch after then maybe visit my work.

Tyson86 · 25/11/2010 11:03

seashells Happy Birthday for yesterday :)
sam How scary for you, glad she seems happy now
Nymph Hope you have a good time at Harry Potter Grin

shieldbug · 25/11/2010 12:13

Sad I have mastitis in both boobs and the antibiotics have made me puke. This is also having a knock-on effect on the milk supply. My breasts are so hot, it's incredible. I really hope it sorts itself out soon. Since I've not had any problems with flow, and have been expressing regularly until they are pretty much empty, I really don't know how it's happened. Harry is a good feeder too. Oh well, just one of those things I suppose.

sam thank goodness you managed to get rid of whatever was choking dd. How scary.

silver thanks for the pombears link all is cvlear now. One of the funniest things I've read in ages Grin

seashells happy birthday. Hope you had a good day.

Good luck to all those with colicky babies- hope it quickly improves. No signs here yet- fingers crossed!

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 25/11/2010 13:49

Thank you for the good wishes! Seeing family and friends at the weekend, looking forward to it :)

I think green poos could be due to too much foremilk. She has been snotty for so long now, many of our feeds are snacks/spluttering

Shieldbug-sounds horrendous :( hope you get better soon.

Was Harry potter good?

nymphadora · 25/11/2010 16:34

Harry Potter great. Dd3 drained both boobs then slept right through. Had lunch in pizza express(all 3 of us) very civilised, then popped into work . Only saw one of my team though. Back home now via halfords as the pram has a puncture & dh car has a flat battery Hmm

SilverSky · 25/11/2010 17:48

How do you know when they are getting hind milk? My boobs never feel empty tho they do tingle after a feed! Is this the famous let down?

nymphadora · 25/11/2010 17:56

Let down is the release at the start of feed. I just assume that they get hind milkBlush feed long enough that they must do
