elsa dd has been using the amby and we've been co- sleeping. Am easing her into it. Just as well we have it cos she hates the moses basket.

seashells I cried and cried.

dilly dd is 18 days.

Fellow cs sufferers, how long did you have wound pain for? I'm very uncomfortable, esp in the evenings but have wound down the painkillers so that may be why.

SilverSky · 22/11/2010 19:27

gregory I am three weeks since my cs and the incision still hurts. Seems to be taking ages to heal. When I walk I can feel it pulling.

I stopped my paim killers a while ago.

Is your pain internal or the actual wound?

Are you following Drs orders and resting up??

nymphadora · 22/11/2010 20:11

ILGH almost 7 weeks and still hurts occasionally

dontstopmenow · 22/11/2010 22:22

Hello all,
Have just had a brief look to update on everyones news. Seems that we are all just about ticking along.

Hannah seems to have colic. Or at least I guess that is what it is. She screams and screams most evenings for hours and is completely inconsolable. Sometimes she will feed but generally not. It is so loud, I had no idea that babies could scream as loud for as long - if I did for even half the time I would have a very sore throat. It is very depressing. The only help my HV could give was to cut down on dairy as that sometimes makes it worse? Silver, I saw that you were recommended a book - what was it? I need help!!
Was also wondering if anyone has any tips on getting a breastfed baby to take a bottle? We have been trying one bottle of EBM every day now for weeks and she is still refusing.

Better go and relieve DH of her now. Have a good night everyone. :)

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 23/11/2010 04:03

Oh you poor things :( I hope it passes quickly (she WILL grow out of it)

Post in bf/ff for some good advice as I am useless-Ds never took one and dd did straight away. There are some teats they recommend but can't remember so ask that section!
Only thing we did differently was start at 4 weeks not 10.
Dh got left with a bottle whilst u was out the room and they figured it out between them!
I hope it clicks soon.

HermyaAndThePomBears · 23/11/2010 07:10

Dontstop What bottle are you using? A lot of people use closer to nature by Tommee Tippee, you can also get breastflow bottles off of Amazon (and I think in TK Max at the moment, though they may be gone) which a couple of my friends use with their babies. Other than that is it you thats giving the bottle or is it DH?

Elsa123 · 23/11/2010 10:39

Hiya Don'tstop that sounds horrible for you all. Like Hermya I've used Tommee Tippee closer to nature and found that DD was not ready to take it until she was 5 weeks old. She could not cope with the flow rate when she was younger. As its quicker for us than breastfeeding, she does need to be winded more and it does have a tendency to go everywhere.

The first feed she had DH did it and I kept out of the way which seemed to work and he made sure that her lips were up against the round part of the teat and the 'nipple' was as far back in her mouth as possible. There are apparently Doctor Brown ones which are great for colic.

For the colic try googling the tiger in the tree hold. I've heard it may help. Also have you tried lying her down and cycling her legs?

jessebelle · 23/11/2010 10:53

shattered again and it's not max's fault but dd who is really disturbed at night - nightmares/wanting a drink/etc etc any excuse! guess it's normal for her to react this way - a kind of subconscious attention seeking - but it's driving me nuts(every night for a fortnight now - always when max is sleeping, so breaking my sleep between his feeds, which aren't exactly long!) and i actually lost it a bit with her in the night - 2am, in my room, because of a lump on her elbow. max had fallen asleep at 11pm and would have slept till 4am I think. but i woke him at 3am as I'd only just settled dd and thought that would be a good idea, feed him then while i was awake. not actually a good idea, he barely woke, wasn't hungry and then kept me awake snuffling around in a really unsettled coldy way (he's got a cold) and then woke properly at 5am for his feed, still didn't really settle, then I woke at 7am to hear DD pattering around - and had to get her ready for school even though Max then slept till 8am. GRRRRRR!

Can't sleep in the day either - got loads of admin to do, got to get Maxie's passport done, as we're going to Sweden at Xmas, so set aside today for doing that (huh, what am I doing on MN then?) and tomorrow, hurray, I've got my surgery on my tongue (all normal apparently, it's a lump formed where I may have bitten it and then it's not healed properly and then got caught a couple more times and then sort of 'over' healed by making too much tissue, hence making a lump). Can't wait to start eating normally again!!!

DP back tomorrow eve - desperate for him to help out with DD's nightwakings. Enough for me with Max's horrible coughs & snuffles.

He is perhaps a bit overwrapped at night but I check him and he's never sweaty or hot on his neck. I have him in vest, babygro, 1 tog sleeping bag & cellular wool blanket knitted by my sister. It's about 18 degrees centigrade in the room. I also sleep him on sheepskin. I'm probably breaking all the rules but he sleeps so much better on it!

Bought a 2.5 tog sleeping bag from jojomamanbebe but really disappointed - it's 30 degree wash and no tumble dry! what's the point of making baby stuff that is difficult to care for??? My one from John Lewis is much easier to clean and dry.

Gotta go - he's changing by the minute - he used to be desperate for a feed at 10am but now it's nearly 11am and I'm worried we won't get to the passport photo place & get it done before school pick up time - think I'll have to wake him!

well done on those expressing already - haven't tried bottle or doing any yet - aim to try earlier than we did with DD. We started with her at 3 months and she refused point blank to accept bottle and we went straight to cup in the end at 5 months - so I wasn't able to share feeds with DP in the early months - which would be really helpful this time around!

Elsa123 · 23/11/2010 12:45

Rough night jessebelle...hugs.

Dilly re your DS's sore bottom situation- have you tried coating his bottom with vaseline to act as a barrier to the pee? I think some people disaprove of it but it does work and I can't see the harm. Also I use Boots own zinc and castor oil cream which works a treat as a barrier cream. I use it at the first sign of a sore bottom and its gone by the next nappy change.

We slept pretty well last night. I'm still shattered though and I have DD awake in my arms and I just want to snuggle up and sleep again! I'm facing a 2.5 hour drive later...deep joy.

nymphadora · 23/11/2010 13:54

Got ant biotics, not getting symptoms of mastitis apart from bright red breast Confused but other side is getting v painful let down so dr thought there is an infection starting in both.
Also had Physio and she thought things looked stronger although I'm still a bit crap!

Elsa123 · 23/11/2010 13:57

Getting there Nymph! Sorry to hear about your boob- the bright redness must be alarming.

Note to self- get off the computer and start packing........

jessebelle · 23/11/2010 14:56

OMG. passport pix of Max make him look like a fat balding man. Well, he does actually look like that at the moment. Sad that his hair is falling out. Poor thing will have to live with that for another five years!

Nymph, I had the bright red breast & pain thing but just kept feeding on that side and hot showers and baths and massage - after couple of days it had abated. Think I had one day of raised temperature too - but caught it just in time. But with antibiotics you should be covered!

for nappy rash Sudocrem and vaseline works for us...

dontstopmenow · 23/11/2010 15:23

Thanks for the tips on the bottles - we have tommee tipee ones so I shall post on the feeding bit of mn and see if there are any others that seem good. Will definately try this tiger tree hold for the colic - sounds like fun anyway!!
Sorry to hear about your boobs nymph! It sounds very painful indeed. Hope the antibiotics work well.

HermyaAndThePomBears · 23/11/2010 16:52

Nymph Ooo sorry about your boobs, must be a bit alarming to see that in your bra.

Took DS into work, everyone cooed over him and were suitably impressed (apart from bloke who referred to DS as a girl, ah well).

I came home to find a baby present from a friend in the post. She sent me chocolate, lip gloss and baby gap socks. Oh my gosh I think it's the best pressie I've been given, I was so impressed.

These were pimped on another thread, I've taken a look at the clothes and they're actually quite nice and reasonable as well.

The second link is about sleeve feeding, who knew.

nymphadora · 23/11/2010 19:01

Think the blocked duct was caused by my 'nice' bras :( they have a support right round the breast and they didn't fit properly when I filled up. Loads of room normally but when I fill I must go up 2 sizes Shock

Hermya are you at Harry potter on thurs?

DillyDora · 23/11/2010 19:20

ILGH re CS pain - it's been 5 weeks now and I have turned a corner with the wound I think. It's tender to the touch but not as much, and it no longer pulls when I walk.

dontstop so sorry about the colic - could Infacol help? The Gp doesn't really believe in it but I thought it helped DS bring up his wind. Good luck with bottles, we use the TT too, but then poor old DS had had cups and syringes of EBM in the first week of life so he'll drink from anything - he's had no choice!

Thanks Elsa for bott advice - we use a zinc and castor oil cream every change, I might try vaseline though.

Nymph hope boob continues to improve, really think it was the bras? Shame as they were the nice ones!

Hermya that is indeed a good present! We keep getting baby clothes and chocolate - such sensible people!

Went to the HV today - DS has put on a further 6oz so he's 7lb 14 now - woohoo!

HermyaAndThePomBears · 23/11/2010 19:25

Nymph I'm working on it, I may have convinced people to go with me. If not I'm going to go on my ownsome with DS. I'll know by tomorrow. So excited!!!!

HermyaAndThePomBears · 23/11/2010 20:02

oh Nymph regarding the antibiotics I know theres a risk of thrush from them, on one of the breastfeeding threads about mastitus people were told to take probiotics alongside them to combact the risk of thrush.

nymphadora · 23/11/2010 21:02

Hermya- ahead of you there chewable acidophilus! Pinched off dh. Am concerned other breast is thrush but dr checked it out. I'd never heard of breast thrush before here so it may just be paranoia Blush

SilverSky · 24/11/2010 02:17

We haven't started expressing yet as DS is only just three weeks. I would like to at some point. When is a good time to start?

Not quite sure what has happened to his latch but it's now painful when he feeds. Think he is not taking enough if the areola but literally sucking on the nipple which is sore! Any tips? As I can't drive yet I can't get to any of the bf clinics.

HV coming Frimso could ask her.

Am thinking of getting a sling. EBay have some secondhand. Brand new slings are pretty pricey!!

How long do your LO's go between feeds? DS can go Anything from hourly to three hourly or occ four hourly! Is it normal for them to vary so much!!!??

We are using Infacol and things have improved. I have stopped drinking caffeine and lemon squash. I read that the above can all have an effet on bf babies. A friend of mine reco'd peppermint tea as that aids digestion. I figure its all worth trying.

HermyaAndThePomBears · 24/11/2010 07:40

Silver Totally normal for them to go variable times. My DS during the day can do one to three hours between feeds. At night dependent on how he's fed during the day he can go four hours at at time. My DS cluster feeds during the evening and then as morning comes he slows down and then speeds up again. I reduced my caffine intake to two a day at the moment, I'm drinking decaff the rest of the time. With regards to your nipples, you could try the hambuger technique detailed here or you could try a rugby hold here, third one down.

nymphadora · 24/11/2010 07:41

Silver-ditto on feed timings. Usually 3-4 hours over night & shorter in the day. I've only expressed once properly & dd3 is 7 weeks tomorrow.I've been looking at slings on eBay too . Am watching some but they still end up more than I want to pay

SilverSky · 24/11/2010 15:10

Ah ok! Thanks! Today we have had random feeds : 1.30am / 3.30am / 6.45am / 9.45am / 11.25am / 12noon til 12.45 and he's now asleep.

What is the longest you would leave them before waking them?? Should I wake him at quarter to four if he's not already woken up? I always go from when he finished feeding, do you? HI says should be from when he starts but I don't agree.

Like you N I am not sure I can justify so much money on a sling, esp when I am not really earning. However, a sling would be very useful for when out and about walking.

Our pushchair has started acting up so going to have to take it back and get a replacement I think. Hassle hassle hassle. Whilst we are there I'd like to get some nursing tops as I dont have any at the mo and it limits what I can wear.

H I also read that limiting dairy intake can also help as does avoiding too much citrus. Trauma eh?!!
