DOH! I did wonder why 'Deli'...

rocket I craved PB all through my pregancy and ate it occasionally. And real nuts too :o

rocketleaf · 15/10/2010 13:27

Yey! Thanks for that, must have had an old hand out. It is my all time fav snack. I am not going to go mad on it or anything but was really missing it as a treat. Bloody love it on bagels, toast, and esp on celery (have to sneak some salad in somehow)

PollyPoo · 15/10/2010 13:36

I know I'm a bit late but.... We did hippo course and found it invaluable. It helped my confidence massively and it was great for getting TG on board. Also found it wasn't woo at all, our tutor covered a lot of the history of medical stuff, plus it was quite sciencey, going into a lot of detail on brain/body functions during labour, which I found really interesting. I was interested in it, but a bit doubtful before the course, so it definitely helped my confidence. But then again I am a virgo, and a control freak and Need to Know Everything/do maximum prep in order to feel at ease. Guess it depends on your confidence and how laid back you are. Cunty obv did brilliantly without a course. And Box had her own version that got her through. Horses for courses innit.

Btw, thanks Honey for the bra recommendation, mine arrived yesterday and I am wearing it today. It is sooo comfortable I've ordered another. And Scropes it has a removable extra padded bit in for covering up eye-popping nips or breast pads later on. Wink

I'll take next Thurs for Moo laying date. Ta v muchly.

PerfectDromedary · 15/10/2010 13:38

POLLY! Where have you been?

rollerbaby · 15/10/2010 13:46

annuvver Virgo control freak! I knew we were like-minded souls pol!

Those bras are ace aren't they. I'm not sure 2 is enuff.

okie you are going to make me wait that long??? Had a v v v good idea for totally OTT lunch: The Savoy has reopened!! can you imagine us waddling in there? Ha ha ha. Maybe not.

off to beauty place now... back later.

Muser · 15/10/2010 13:49

Interesting, is nice to know the courses have positive reviews. Maybe I should reconsider. Don't suppose anyone can recommend a good one in ThatLondon? Preferably one Southish or Eastish.

rocket I thought I had read somewhere officialish that peanut butter was fine, although you may want to avoid if there are allergies in your family. But I agree that the general advice is "we dunno". I have been eating it quite happily.

milano welcome! We have varying approaches to official advice here. The only common theme is not to judge others on the thread for the decisions they make.

PollyPoo · 15/10/2010 14:09

Hello Drom! How are you my luvver? I have been lurking but not posting much, mainly due to being an unsociable beeatch with backache and a 'to do' list as long as my arm. It has been making me Very Grumpy. I am hoping that when I finish work next week the back probs will ease off and normal service will be resumed. Can't help with tutor I'm afraid Muse, although I could ask our laydee to recommend? She has been into hb for years and travels loads giving talks and stuff so she might know someone in That Lunden.

maswera · 15/10/2010 14:31

Oh for fuck's sake Angry

I got to the hospital and was kept waiting for an hour before being seen. I know they're always overworked & behind schedule but I just hate it when they leave you sitting there like you've got nothing better to do instead of having the common decency to let you know they are running late & how long it'll be. When I eventually got seen I complained that I had been waiting for an hour and she just said 'well I don't know why that would be because I'm not running late'. I gave her my Hmm and Angry face so she went off to check and it turned out I had been given an appointment without actually being put on the list so when I turned up they just put me at the bottom to be seen after everyone else without mentioning it.

Fucking idiots.

Unfortunately I was so pissed off by that point I burst into tears. What a twat Blush. I always cry when I'm cross at the best of times, let alone when I'm hormonal-plus-plus. Anyway, all she did was say I should have another scan to decide my due date - WTF - I was scanned last week - when they said I should see the consultant to decide whether or not to change my due date. But by that point I was sufficiently fucked off to not really care. Tosspots.

PerfectDromedary · 15/10/2010 14:39

Oh, dear, poor Pol and poor maswera.

mas Do you have any idea what your due date should be? I thought measurements varied wildly between different babies after the initial 12 week scan, which is why dates don't work brilliantly after that.

And Pol, what kind of backache? Muscley? I have MANY yoga stretches which might help...but not if it's more serious than pregnancy ligamenty-ness.

CluckyKate · 15/10/2010 14:49

This lady came highly recommended to me Muse but sadly no longer does courses out our way.....might be a bit central/west for you but am sure she can put you in touch with an alternative practitioner.

Oh Mas (((((hugs))))) - how far off your due-date do they think you are???

maswera · 15/10/2010 14:53

Drom - yes, I am completely sure of my dates, have regular cycles and earlier scans all agreed with the original EDD - which is why I was Hmm about them fucking around with it now... She said herself that the most accurate measure was the 12 week scan - which agreed with my original EDD - and that later in pregnancy dating is much less accurate. So why has she booked me in for a scan at 34 weeks to decide my due date?! Gah! I don't know why I'm getting so wound up about this - I think it's because it all seems completely unnecessary... The health service is stretched enough as it is so why make things more complicated than they need to be...?

Rocket - ooh, the iron men eh...? We are househunting around that way as it happens :)

PerfectDromedary · 15/10/2010 14:57

mas Really don't want to be the voice of doom, and do tell me to fuck the fucking fuck off, but if they shift your due date earlier and you go late then there will be a reason for you to be induced earlier...

Do you have to have the scan? I'd be tempted to tell them to feck off.

Muser · 15/10/2010 15:01

I'd be quite tempted just to say no as well.

maswera · 15/10/2010 15:01

My brain must be failing coz I'm not with you sorry... Em - yer what? Wink

maswera · 15/10/2010 15:02

Sorry - that was aimed at Drom - what do you mean by 'there will be a reason for you to be induced earlier'...?

PerfectDromedary · 15/10/2010 15:05

If you have an earlier due date, and then you go two weeks past it, you will start getting hassle to be induced. While if you retain your old due date then you'll have a bit longer before they decide you have to be hooked up to a drip etc etc.

And if it's necessary for the health of the baby then bring on the induceyness, obvs, but personally, I'd rather avoid it if at all possible.

Really fabby article about the pros and cons by Viv Groskop here

maswera · 15/10/2010 15:09

Right, OK, yeah I get that - which is one of the reasons I was less keen on them changing the date... Have no idea though how much of A Bad Thing being induced is - really do need to gen up on this preggo lark...

Scorpette · 15/10/2010 15:09

Mas, that is shit. I hate the way no-one takes the blame for people being fucked about and as for the ridiculousness about your EDD - GRRRRRRR Angry

I would trust your instincts and stick to the original EDD. You know your cycle, you know when you won and the original fits, so stick to your guns.

Poor Pol, lurking bravely with an achy back and only thought of my bountiful knockers to keep you going Wink Now my mutant nips have blinded everyone within a 5 mile radius, I am no longer embarrassed being out and about Grin Please enjoy this long, lingering smooch to cheer you up

Am so poorly today that I'm reduced to watching Jezza Kyle re-runs. Sample dialogue: 'Whaddya mean I ain't done nuffink to help aht me son? I got his name tattooed on me arm, di'n't I?'. Pure class.

Melty moment of the day: I bought a preggo mag t'other day and last night I found TYF reading it and earmarking pages of stuff he found interesting. I done good, ain't I? :) Mind you, the kitchen is still a shitpit (I can't handle the smells and he keeps putting off doing a proper clean). Hmm

PerfectDromedary · 15/10/2010 15:12

Induction isn't in and of itself a Bad Thing, as it may well be a Necessary Thing for whatever reason. But it makes lots of things about birth harder - you need to be monitored more, so you can't rampage around grunting as much (apparently rampaging around and grunting is appropriate labour behaviour); contractions hurt more because you don't have the gradual getting worse and worse, you're straight on into the ow and you're more likely to need various interventions by the end of things.

Carrots knows WAY more about this than me, having done a proper fight-with-the-medics to get the birth she wanted and come out with a lovely, healthy baby.

PollyPoo · 15/10/2010 16:31

Drom I'm not really sure, prob just muscular. Mainly lower back pain with shooty pains in hips/legs. Not very pleasant. Definitely worsened by being on my feet too much, hence my desire to give up work early, even though I'd planned to work way later. Sad Over the last few days I am also being troubled by a horrible burning shooty pain on the front of my pubis, groin and sometimes at tops of thighs. I'm very much hoping it is not the start of SPD. (Anyone who has suffered with this please tell me to HTFU and it is just ligament pain?) Probably just the weight of the cakes baybee resting on pelvis. It is not there all the time, but is very painful when it happens. All in all it is making me mis, but finally have appt with physio at the end of the month.

Mas sorry to hear about blardy hospital. I'd have cried too. I think you should decline offer of further scan and stick with your dates as you are sure of them.

AlpinePony · 15/10/2010 16:36

mas Inductions can go either way - with mine I thought my uterus was going to explode, I was given a yellow handbag and was horribly rude to a midwife Blush, everything went fucking wrong & mine & Bear's heartbeat halved with every contraction. I went from no contractions to constant in 20 minutes - not good. Others still have a dreamy experience. I do wonder though if they're fiddling with your dates so that they don't have to induce you at christmas when no doubt they'll be paying exorbitant agency fees for the long bank holiday weekend (4 days in total). But I'm just a cynic me.

Are you allowed to even carry cured meats? I enjoyed all cured meats and salamis. Baby still alive. Didn't eat any (raw) cats though - so felt relatively safe.

rocketleaf · 15/10/2010 16:42

mas ooh a BESH neighbour? that would be exciting! Your hossie experience sounds like a mare, and I agree with the wtf? with messing about wasting NHS resources not to mention making you more uncertain. Just been discussing with my RLBESH pals how many unnecessary blood tests we have all been sent for because of 'lost' results or the classic. "Oh we like to have the bloods HERE' as if hospitals don't trust the results the GP clinics take etc. Stoopid. I hope you figure out what to do but another scan doesnt sound like it'll be helpful unless it reconfirms your original date in which case what's the point.

Hello pol nice to see you in here :o Sorry to hear your back is giving you jip. shooty pains sound like it might be a bit sciatic? do you have any tingley toes or cramp? Physio should help with that. Hope you can rest up in the mean time.

scorps my pal just gave me a preggo book, she has a recently had an mmc :( I thought it was very sweet of her and I have categorically told her it is on loan only until she is diffed again. We have had a lovely afternoon talking of all things BESH and eating cinnamon custard tarts. I was going to save you all some but ummm, they seem to have gone missing Blush

maswera · 15/10/2010 16:42

Fanks all. I know I'm being pathetic about it (but am happily blaming all irrational behaviour on hormones...) I think when they call with the appointment I will ask if I can discuss with the consultant again and get out of the scan. We were trying for 15 fecking months - I know exactly when I oved, when droid was due, what my cycles were like, when we had sex - there ain't no way a scan can tell me any different....

CUNextTuesday · 15/10/2010 17:00

pol I had exactly what you are describing and I assumed it was low grade SPD. Didn't amount to much bar being v uncomfortable to walk on hard surfaces so my advice is to glue some pieces of think carpet or duvet to the soles of your shoes and you'll be right as rain.

Muse I'll instruct you in hypnobirthing for 20 coins of the realm. Can't say fairer than that Grin. I always fell asleep listening to the CD to but it all goes in subliminally whether you're awake or asleep. In truth, I wouldn't shell out for a course - well I didn't anyway - and it worked fine for me. If you can breathe (I assume you can) and you can visualise and count, then there's not much else they can teach you...

PerfectDromedary · 15/10/2010 17:01

Mas You are NOT being pathetic. You're asking for information that you are entirely entitled to.

Have just happily googled my afternoon away looking at reasons to be worried about big babies. Turns out that the scans are tres inaccurate and that there's v little reason to be worried about baby size, unless baby has GIANT head.

Pol Physio sounds like a Good Thing.
