Exactly and early terminations when the "wrong" sex is conceived. Sad.

Scorpette · 02/11/2010 17:34

I agree - for every one couple that just want to know the sex v early purely out of excitement, etc., there'll be 10 couples having it done for dodgy sex selection reasons.

TYF was asking last night if we can find out the sex at my scan at 13 weeks. I pointed out that the sex organs are developed by then, but you don't find out, as they're still vvv small and ambiguous (and the sex selection factor, as it'd be less traumatic to abort at @12 wks than 20). We would love to know purely for the fun factor of it; we then talked about how disgusting it is that some people will abort purely because of the sex.

Seriously what kind of person would do that? I suppose the kind of person whose never had any trouble getting diffed :(

Had interesting convo in work the other day about how completely fucked up Chinese society is now that 90% of the current generation are only children. Most parents will now support their child if they are unhappy in work as they are PFB (or POB) and there are 4 grandparents,2 parents who will keep working until they are older just so PFB can be happy. Any they are all very solitary people and not used to sharing. Bit weird.

I am really tempted to post and AIBU thread '... to have bought a Take That ticket for my due date" and see what responses I get.

We have names short lists, TBs current favourite for a boy is a bit Hmm I am daily oscillating between thinking its cool and too daft.

Muser · 02/11/2010 20:06

I think we have our names. Technically we have a short list for a girl's name, but I think in reality the top one is very top. We only have one boy's name.

PollyPoo · 02/11/2010 20:27

We are now re-thinking our favourite names. Suddenly realised that top girls name would prolly not suit 6ft woman (which any daughter of ours is likely grown into) and TG has admitted he is still not keen on top boys name. Gah. Am intrigued Rocket as to the cool/daft boys name!

rocketleaf · 02/11/2010 20:47

haha not sure whether to admit to it but if you have seen the Princess Bride you might be able to guess it (and no it not Humperdinck) :o

rollerbaby · 02/11/2010 20:51

We have literally only just decided over dinner!! Feel relieved and excited to have a name! It's only taken 9 months...

Scorpo cold scotch eggs ROCK. Waitrose do cumberland sausage mini ones and you can freeze them...

I don't really agree about the sex selection thing... I can't imagine anyone I know or on here, finding out at 7 weeks and then making a decision based on that. I don't think it's the fault of science that people are a bit sick... I personally loved finding out (ok, I just couldn't wait) and for me whether that was 7 or 12 weeks was immaterial. I do imagine though that if you did find out at 7 weeks and something bad happened it would be doubly traumatic.

Very happy to do Westfield or PJs but seems like central rather than west would be better for the East London posse. Why don't we try and find a date in late Nov/early Dec and see who's up for it? Why do I get the feeling that maternity leave is going to be very bad for my bank balance? It's not at the moment, because I can only waddle so far and need the loo every 2 shops.

Mild cramps in cervix just restarted. They don't hurt at all but are sort of coming every few minutes. Doula doesn;t think it is pre labour as such, just aches and pains of baby moving about so we will see.

OkieCokie · 02/11/2010 21:09

I had appt with my consultant today. I basically have until 10pm Sunday eve to lay and she will deliver me otherwise I am passed to her stand in consultant who will cover while she is having her op and out of action. At this rate I won't be laying before Sunday so I wished her luck for her op, she wished me luck and we had a hug. It was all very nice but a bit surreal.

moo I am having the odd ache and pain too but I am sure it is nothing other than baby moving about.

rollerbaby · 02/11/2010 21:13

Did you meet the other consultant in the end? Funny to think it is so close now.

OkieCokie · 02/11/2010 21:19

No, I didn't. I need to call him and make an appt for next week. Hopefully I won;t need to!

She offered me a sweep today - I declined.

Scorpette · 02/11/2010 21:23

Polly, I think your top name would fit a tall girl, as it makes me think of a strong woman from a certain era. But seeing as one your other top choices is my RL name, I think you should go with THAT! Don't let the fact that I'm a midget put you off Grin

Rocket, you want to call your son BUTTERCUP? Confused

Wink

Gah, Moomin, how dare you so casually drop in laying news?! Okay, so it's not nec. The Main Event, but we on Diff-Drop Watch are gagging for any sign of action

Me and TYF would defo find out the sex at 7 weeks - but only because it'd be ace. It is kinda groovy science can find out so early on now, but sad that people would use it for dodgy reasons. The prob in China is not just that there's so many only children, but that a mindbogglingly disproportionate percentage of them are male, as most of us know. Males outnumber females due to selective abortion in many other countries. The male-female balance of the world entire should naturally fall at 51% female- 49% male (females being naturally hardier, despite what sexists would say). Still, after all our woes and nightmares, I think we can safely assume that the PESH won't be going in for any of that malarkey.

BTW, I have had an immense trauma today - I have my first evil stretchmark on my tum. Am not even 12 weeks yet! Considering how shit I feel and how ravaged my body is clearly going to be, I better be having fucking twins. I demand my BOGOF!

Bio-oil is your friend, Scorps.

PrincessBoo · 02/11/2010 22:21

Or the Lush 'therapy' massage bar. (Sorry, just having a little stroll out from the palais).

Scorpette · 02/11/2010 23:03

I'll get some bio-oil ASAP, ta for heads up, Meds.

I can't handle the smell of Lush at the mo, Boo (is bad enough when not pg!).

OP posts:
PrincessBoo · 02/11/2010 23:09

Sorry Scorps I forget that not everyone loves Lush. Palmers is pretty good too.

Muser · 02/11/2010 23:10

As an alternative to stretch marks, I currently have a smiley face drawn on my belly. Because somebody thinks he is funny.

Scorpette · 02/11/2010 23:13

You do realise, don't you, Muse, that you are basically married to the male version of me? Wink

OP posts:
Muser · 02/11/2010 23:15

Yes. I do wonder whether he stole the idea from you. Some folk are just easily amused I guess. Grin

AlpinePony · 03/11/2010 07:00

Well with this delightful "sex selection" thing going on in parts of the world we now have a situation where girls are being KIDNAPPED and/or raped because there is a genuine shortage of "mates". Delightful. Hmm Mind you, there will be a similar practice going on amongst FESH children in years to come with a 3:1 ration we seem to be achieving. Wink Either that or we'll have to encourage them to take a dramatic path at an early age.

Olive oil? A la Marie Helvin - although in the ads she used Flora. Veh sexy.

AlpinePony · 03/11/2010 07:03

medee With your loosening ligaments are your high kicks becoming more "flabouyant"? Can we expect to see an alternative Moulin-Rouge any time soon? Grin

rocketleaf · 03/11/2010 07:28

How is anyone supposed to drink a pint and a half of water in half an hour, when one sip makes you want to bork. FFS.

I am a bit wary of Bio Oil since I read that putting mineral oils on your skin is a bit like wrapping it in cling film. (god damn internet) I am hoping Dream Cream will do the trick. scorps is it the smell of the shop or the actual products you can handle? if its just the shop then just send TYF with a list (TB is already used to this as he works near one and I don't)

How you doing today moo?

PerfectDromedary · 03/11/2010 07:37

I found bio-oil a bit icky - felt greasy all day. Then kind friend gave me the mama mio tummy rub; if you can ignore the cutseyness, is v v nice. And stretch marks haven't happened yet.

Spent last night in fits of giggles because I could see my stomach move when Berwhale kicked. Amazing how easily I'm entertained these days...

MrsFC · 03/11/2010 07:47

I agree with drom about the bio oil, it stained my clothes. The clarins one is good, but the mama mio one is my favourite too.

I think I might love MrM muse, sorry - but he makes me laugh! Was it permanent marker? I'm imagining a certain friends episode. Could make the MW's day...

AlpinePony · 03/11/2010 07:47

I didn't get any and just whacked on whatever was to hand. I did get a Palmer's sample though and that smelled lovely.

rocket It's my understanding that the water thing isn't so much of a requirement as it was in days gone by with less sophisticated equipment.

Muser · 03/11/2010 08:17

It was not permanent marker thankfully. Although nothing is allowed to happen today as I couldn't quite get it all off.

I am wearing a proper maternity bra today as my underwires were really starting to hurt. It's not truly hideous, but it doesn't give the lovely shape. Sigh.
