Scorpette · 01/11/2010 14:22

In reference to my current fun situation, OurKid, I remember at 5 weeks wondering if I was going to get proper morning sickness or wot (felt vaguely on-off nauseous back then), as I was worrying I wasn't having enough symptoms. Come week 6, well - talk about 'Be careful what you wish for... '! I did have hurty buzwams, cramps and felt a bit tired at the start, but nothing much. Many people have no symptoms for the whole pg, or virtually none. Wombular twinges are good (well, as a sign) and they do feel the same as un-pg ute activity, because, well, how wide a range of sensations can a single organ produce?! (I learnt that one when I gave up the menkul)

A dulux puppy?? No wonder... they are gorgeous!! There is a woman who walks hers on our common but it is very funny because she has zero control over him and literally gets pulled behind him as he races towards other dogs. It is comedy to watch.

Mr Moo will be in element with Hairy and Mini Moo. I'd better start timing his walks...

Muser · 01/11/2010 14:32

Oh yes, my dad got his old english as soon as he moved to the countryside and had space. He loves them.

She does not have a proper Dulux coat as I think that must require 23 hours grooming a day. But she's lovely. I can picture that poor woman getting pulled along. They are big strong dogs and do love to play. And bounce.

They don't bark though. I think I've heard her bark once and we all looked at her in shock.

Scorpette · 01/11/2010 14:35

I don't even own scales. I refused to let the MW tell me what I weighed and won't look at it in my notes! I have has digestive probs anyway since my teens (hence the luvverly allergies and so on) and the NHS have been fucking useless and never offered me any medication, so have no faith they'll put any more effort in now I'm pg, speshly with regards to doling out drucks! I would refuse to take anything that had any risk for Teh Baybee anyway I already asked about seeing someone - that was when they just went on about it being an extension of my existing probs and there being nowt I can be given for it. My stomach has always hurt a lot whenever I feel even vaguely nauseous, even when I was little; 'tis just an unlucky-but-harmless genetic quirk. I remember talking in the past more than once to TYF about me worrying I'd be in a huge amount of pain if I got morning sickness, so at least I can feel smug at knowing my body so well! Confused

Muser · 01/11/2010 14:40

Get the CD Scorps. It can't hurt at least. Hopefully this will all be over in a week or two.

rocketleaf · 01/11/2010 14:41

Oh sweetscorps that sounds so awful:( I know how down I have been just with a bit of low grade but constant nausea. You ARE very brave. Moan away dearest I know it doesn't help the pain but maybe can releave the mental anguise a bit.
orchs as muse very wisely pointed out no symptoms at this stage means nothing and every pregnancy is different. You might be lucky and get away with none this time round. But if it helps sickness didn't start for me til six weeks. And sickness or not i still won't be convinced I am diffed til I see the scan so not sure it even helps. Is a choice of just worried or worried AND sick! Sorry that doesn't really help does it!!!!

PerfectDromedary · 01/11/2010 14:57

Scorps Sorry that things are so unpleasant. It's bizarre how badly the digestive system gets battered by pregnancy -I think I told the PESHes when I almost called the midwife to check that I wasn't having a miscarriage and it turned out to be trapped wind...?

The rich food advice sounds brilliant - I felt constantly hungover (without the pain you're experiencing, just nauseous all the time) for the first few weeks and salty carbs were the only answer. There's no point in worrying about how much weight you will or won't put on - I put on LOADS before I was even officially showing because I needed to eat all the time, but it's evened out a bit now those symptoms have gone.

honey & okie Apols for the (completely unintentional!) NFI - just two different FB lists. Am not sure either of you would have wanted to drag yourself over to East London, though?

Medee · 01/11/2010 15:04

lots of comfort food for me too. Macaroni cheese and the like. that and the haribo of course.

Muser · 01/11/2010 15:13

Percy Pigs worked quite well for me. The Reversey ones. Yum.

Drom are you all better now?

laurielou · 01/11/2010 15:17

Rocket a scan is still no guarantee of convincing yourself you're diffed. Trust me Grin.

No wonder vag stayed in De Nile so long. Its quite nice.

Can I just add another person to my list of who I've told? Fule! I'll have to confess to Mr Loz tonight. Someone in work confided that they were just finalising details on a new job then they were leaving. So I said "talking of personal news that will affect the office......" He said congratulations, then looked worried & said "it is good news, isn't it?". See, I've done a bloody marvellous job of convincing people over the years that I didn't want children.

Med, Drom you've made me feel better about the constant comfort eating. Although I really fancy macaroni cheese now.

So much for my healthy day, I've just had a Twirl. Very nice. Honestly, I'd eat my hand as long as it was slapped betweed 2 hefty slices of white bread & butter. I have however been hopping onto the scales each morning - it ain't pretty. That's the part I'm dreading most about my first midwife appointment on Friday.

Midwife - eeek!

PerfectDromedary · 01/11/2010 15:18

Yes, thanks, Meds! The spotting seems to have stopped, so am assuming it was just stoopid hormones. Berwhale is kicking, potentially hiccuping and giving me dreadful indigestion, so I'm guessing s/he's ok.

How's you? Are you shopping for the baby yet?

Honey Shamefully, I have to rescind everything I said about the bugaboo bee - it is CLEARLY the best way of transporting babies around London. Serves me right for pontificating without doing my research proper-like.

PerfectDromedary · 01/11/2010 15:32

Lozza Step AWAY from the scales. Cunty spoke wisely to Ski many moons ago - and asserted that the scales are not your friend through pregnancy. I've definitely found that eating has calmed down massively from the initial once an hour "hmm, better have a lovely snack of Hula Hoops, a cake and a whole pizza to tide me over".

My midwife was LOVELY. TNB came with me for the booking-in appointment, and she had to take me outside on the pretence of showing me where the toilet was to take a urine sample to ask the Domestic Violence question. It was very sweet.

Scorpette · 01/11/2010 15:34

I had leftover belly pork for my breakfast! At least the Docs would appove Blush

Drom, am glad the spotting has stopped and Berwhale is enjoying a good boogie (bumflakes about the indo, tho' Sad). I want an iCandy but saw a really chavvy couple with one t'other day. Am I very shallow that this has put me off a bit?!

Lozza, I've told you before, if you want to keep it such a secret, you've really got to remove that neon flashing sign saying 'I'M PREGNANT!!!' from your head. Cuh! Wink

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 01/11/2010 15:36

laurie If it's any consolation I put on relatively little over the course of my pregnancy - the majority went on in the first 15 weeks. Then the pre-eclampsia turned me into a water-retaining heffalump and I promptly put on 8kg AFTER the c-section due to i) the horrendous drugs they put me on ii) eating for 12 (sleep deprivation + breastfeeding friendly foods - i.e, cake(s)). I suffered no stretchmarks and one of my associates didn't realise I was pregnant... the week before I laid him! Hmm My one and only regret is that I wanted to get on the scales the day I went in to labour...

rollerbaby · 01/11/2010 15:37

Hee hee! Don't worry Drommie I am just a whinging cah and you're right, there's about as much chance of me getting to East London as there is of me getting to the moon right now. Any excuse for me to have cocktails though and I will be there like a shot usually. I have finally reached the stage where getting off sofa/going to the loo/getting out of bed/walking anywhere is a major physical exertion accompanied by "OUF" or "fuck ow ow ow".

Bugaboos are supposed to be v good (have to say I just shamelessly copied several mums I know), I think the Bee is slightly more compact and transportable than the one we've got which is the Chameleon. I predict (and have been told several times) that I'll be buying a fold down maclaren in 6 months times and will be flogging ours second hand!!! My mum who paid for it, might not be so impressed.

OMG Mr Moo has just come downstairs and told me about Lily Allen. I can't believe it. That poor poor poor girl. Fucking hell. I can't imagine how she must be feeling now.

Muser · 01/11/2010 15:39

Glad everything is ok Drom, hooray for hiccuping Berwhale.

rollerbaby · 01/11/2010 15:42

Hiccuping baybees are the best feeling ever.

laurielou · 01/11/2010 15:48

Drom glad everything is OK. Damn those hormones.

I haven't looked at any such baybee "equipment". Mr Loz looked at prams & had no idea how expensive they were. We just looked cluelessly at each other.

Pliz everyone not to read anything about Lily Allen. It is so, so sad. I stoopidly ventured further than the Deli & Palais earlier & found a couple of really upsetting freds Sad. Lets just close the curtains, put our feet up & eat pizza.

Scorpette · 01/11/2010 15:50

Oh God, just went to BBC News for Lily Allen info. That poor girl! Sad Christ, it's everyone's nightmare. Makes me happy for my stomach pain.

Drom, I dread people being earnest, as I'm such a piss-taker. If a MW had done that to me, I'd really struggle not to pretend to sob and whisper 'he won't let me wee if it's not in front of him'. At my first appointment, Miss MW asked me if I intended to BF, mentioning how it burned off a lot of calories. I said I was. She asked for how long I estimated I would do so. It took everything I had not to reply, 'only until I can get into a size 10' with a straight face.

Waaaah, poor Lily Allen! Can't stop thinking about her, poor chap.

OP posts:
PerfectDromedary · 01/11/2010 15:51

Oh, that's awful. Poor lady.

Loz I like your strategy and will be joining you.

Muser · 01/11/2010 15:53

I am with you laurie I just cannot think about it.

So far, our baby purchases have been one shiny new car. Bloody expensive baby purchase! The next new baby purchase is going to be new carpet. There is logic in this.

laurie there are cheap pram options as well, you don't have to spend squillions on a Bugaboo. I too have heard that we'll all end up with a Maclaren in a few months anyway. Except for my friends with Bugaboo Bees who are evangelical about them, and that is what I want. Also, good secondhand deals can be had.

On hiccuping babies, when we had the second 20 week scan Bob had the hiccups. It was very weird watching the baby shake on screen and be able to feel it at the same time.

PerfectDromedary · 01/11/2010 15:54

Scorps Oh, she wasn't earnest - I was just amused by her means of finding the privacy to ask. Felt very much like being in a club and having to go to the loo with your mates to talk about boys.

To be honest, I was more horrified by the realisation that they ask about the domestic violence at your booking-in appointment because you are SO MUCH MORE likely to have the shit kicked out of you by your partner when you're pregnant. The mind boggles. I blame the patriarchy. Etc.

Scorpette · 01/11/2010 16:03

Drom, I knew the stats about the majority of Domestic Violence starting in pg, but it was still a depressing surprise to be asked about it at the booking-in. I was also v WTF that Miss MW kept going on and on about it, like she didn't believe me, just because TYF didn't accompany me. She wouldn't shut up about 'lack of interest' being a sign. Well, I had a distinct lack of interest in going through my own mundane personal details, arguing about my title and talking about my nips and flaps and so on, so why my partner would be fascinated, I do not know (and no-one tells you he should go with, anyway!). Hmm

It's heartbreaking and disgusting that DV does start most often in pg. Is hard to imagine how anyone could want to hurt not only a pg woman, but potentially their own child, but then again I can't imagine why anyone could even contemplate hurting someone else in the first place. Wonder if it's because they see preggos as even more inferior and weak than non-differs? GRRRRRRR, CUNTS! Sad Angry

OP posts:
Medee · 01/11/2010 16:32

I read a stat (think it WTEWYE) that the commonest cause of death among pregnant women is DV, which I find shocking.

MrsFC · 01/11/2010 18:17

Evening all,

Sorry you had such a rubbish night score. But belly pork for breakfast? Yum.

I gained a stome in the first 12 weeks - like lorrie, I was all about the white carbs & salt. Then it calmed down & I've gained 8lbs in the next 16 weeks. However, the last two nights I've felt suspiciously ill in the evenings and only feel better after salt & vinegar squares. Thanks to muse I'm now putting in an order for the FC to pick up Percy Pigs on the way home...

I'm still not for swerving on the Bee. I did look at a maclaren system at the weekend, but it still doesn't look as tube friendly as the Bee. Although I did see a young Essex type with one in the hot pink, which was just a bit much for my eyes.

Had another mw appointment today, still haven't had a comprehensive answer about baby asprin - which I have been taking since Jan on the recommendation of a FC. (Not MY FC - in case you are confused...). She HAS booked me in for a third scan though on measuring my bump and looking at my notes showing a small horse growing inside me. I plan to start the sechs, pineapple, curry & foot rubbing at 36 weeks - he can do his growing OUTSIDE me I think...

Am planning to meet honey in a South London PESH/ESH meet at Peter Jones in Dec - who wants to join us
