Hi all - I've been lurking but no baby yet! Due on Sunday and whilst I've had loads of BH, no other real signs. He's definitely in the right position though so I hope it can't be too long.

Fingers crossed for Mibby and Comtessa...

Vix7 · 27/10/2010 18:20

honeymoo, my edd is fri and i have had ZERO signs of anything happening. i'm like 'just get this baby out of me already!!!!'

she's already gone over the date/week we thought she'd come out cos DH and myself came at 38 and all her immediate uncle and aunties came at 38wk too.

but this one seems far to comfortable in there and shows no signs of budging at all.

sigh...

comtessa · 27/10/2010 18:57

Just out of interest, has anyone hired a TENS machine yet or awaiting one? If so, where have people hired them from? Just doing some internet trawling... Thanks!

rollerbaby · 27/10/2010 19:07

vix have you had any BH at all? It's the not knowing that's driving me mad more than any physical ailments now. Ah well, it won't be long...

going to do some heavy duty bouncing and get my husband to do his marital duty tomorrow morning. Should be fun for him! Not.

Mibby · 27/10/2010 19:28

We had (bought) a TENS from Lloyds pharmacy previously but got new, big pads from the hospital to make it suitable for labour.

Other than that you can hire them from Boots , NCT, and the hospital.

Still achy but nothing else Confused

Rinnyx · 27/10/2010 19:39

I still have about 11 days to go and have no signs of labour coming soon, keep checking for a show every time I go to the loo but nothing but then again I dont recall having one with DD.
If I knew he was going to be like DD I would be getting ready for a painful Monday but I have a feeling he will be late.
he has already proved DP wrong who was SO sure he would be here soon as I hit 37 weeks, oh well here I am about 38 and half weeks just lots of painful kicks from DS kicking out to the side of my bump

Loooopy · 27/10/2010 19:42

comtessa i decided to buy a tens machine, as i plan on having more babies and so it made more sense to buy - i got the elle tens for £52 from here

www.expressyourselfmums.co.uk/details1.asp?ProductID=218&name=elle-tens-maternity-tens-obstetric-tens-machine.htm

also bought a spare set of pads and a bottle of the liquid just in case!

Fenouille · 27/10/2010 19:45

honeymoo & vix I'm not really having any signs of impending anything either. I get a few painless BH if I've been standing for a while but that's it.

DH just said, "Can you believe, tomorrow we might have a baby?" and I had a hard time not crying - I don't feel at all ready for this. Am I the only one?

Aaaand the shower isn't in. DH came home too late to start drilling. He's installing the sliding door instead after I had a big rant at him Grin

Bassface · 27/10/2010 19:52

Ebb Thanks very much for that. Just when you think you're all prepared, something comes along that you've heard nothing about! Think I'll go for the managed third stage too. Seems a good idea to get it over and done with!

cluelessnchaos · 27/10/2010 20:42

Midwife dropped off the homebirth stuff and the gas and air cannisters and oxygen are here too, it makes it all seem very real now. I am going for a managed third stage after having three bleeds in this pregnancy I am not going to take any chances I have to pick up a prescription tommorow and that's it the midwives are officially on duty from lunchtime tommorow, dh is due home tommorow from the rig as well, not that I think I will be going into labour anytime soon, no niggles or pains at all.

comtessa · 27/10/2010 23:01

Anyone in/around Nottingham fancy a meetup next week? Thinking long walk followed by curry Grin or whatever anyone feels like doing - feet up and cake?

BloodyBorisKarloffTheBold · 27/10/2010 23:18

Evening all!

Fenouille - nope not the only one. Am still freaked out at the thought of a newborn being here in 9 (eeeek) days, despite already having two DDs. Am sure we'll all be fine!

Blondecat - yep was offered an ECV, but declined it. Consultant advised that the success is usually around 50%, but would be much less for me due to the size of the baby (i.e. massive). Thought it seemed a bit pointless for me personally as baby hasn't flipped over at any point over the last couple of months. Also, as 1st delivery was back to back forceps and 2nd delivery ended up with forceps and shoulder dystocia (and broken clavicle), we agreed it made more sense to skip ECV and go straight for ELCS.

Pretty relived as I was overdue with both previously and think I would lose the will to go on if I went another 3-4 weeks with this one as am now officially massive Grin.

comtessa - would've came along, but it's a bit of a trek from Hampshire. Hope you get a few takers though.

Vix7 · 27/10/2010 23:27

Fen and honeymoo,
not sure if i've experienced any BH tbh!! haven't had any period-like or cramping pains in the tummy area. i've felt the entire tummy go hard and 'seize' up but there was no pain. i did get fairly bad backaches the last few weeks but even those have stopped recently.

the mucus plug did come out in small dribs and drabs but no bloody show.

friends' babies who are 'younger' than this one pregnancy-wise have popped at 37-38 weeks already! this one seems content to run the full marathon before heading to the finish line. argh!! hurry up already!

bunnygirl80 · 28/10/2010 03:09

comtessa I think my SIL is sending over her TENS machine from the UK for me to try. They haven't really caught on in Oz for some reason. Not sure if I'll use it much though as I want to use the lovely spa bath in the delivery suite

fenouille good luck if you do end up being induced. Hope you get to take your baby home to a shiny new fully functional bathroom Grin

Had my 37 week check today. Baby is fully engaged and ready to go, so am really hoping he comes before my due date. He'll probably decide he's comfortable in there and hang around to be forcibly evicted knowing my luck Smile

celestinelass · 28/10/2010 07:54

Hi all x

Anyone got any tips on DELAYING labour please?!

I'm 38+5 and night before last at 4am following a restless, getting kicked hard few hours, I sneezed.......

As I sneezed I felt a baby foot thump hard into my rear right hand lower ribs and sudden excruciating pain.

Scared the crap out of my sleeping partner, never seen him move so fast from sleep to awake ever! Poor sod thought I'd delivered instantaneously!

I was literally squealing in pain, like a knife was stuck in my ribs.

Pain didn't ease at all so we called the hospital, who passed me round midwife, GP etc between 5am and 9am.

They won't x ray me obviously, but judging by the lump sticking out of my back, either I have a cracked or displaced rib, with lots of torn ligaments for good measure.

Just over 24hrs later, paracetamol and deep heat are all I can use to try and kill the agony. Full bed rest also....dull. No nesting.

If I go into labour now, I'm screwed....won't be able to push or even climb into the water birthing pool.

Seeing my midwife at 3pm, hoping she will have some ideas. Just trying to think positive.

Not feeling it, 8 months of morning sickness and now this for a finale....great.

Hugs to you all.....DON't Sneeze!

balijay · 28/10/2010 08:15

Oh celestine that sounds horrible! Will keep my fingers crossed that you don't go into labour until you are more able to manage it!

cluelessnchaos · 28/10/2010 08:34

Celestine you poor thing, hopefully the pregnant body has an amazing way of fixing itself in time for labour

umf · 28/10/2010 08:52

celestine OMG! the baby actually broke your rib?? hope the pain subsides quickly over the next few days. it's your first, right? and 70% arrive after 40 weeks anyway. good luck!

lainey1981 · 28/10/2010 08:55

celestine you poor thing. Fingers crossed here for you.
hope everyone else is well - send labour vibes to those due this week.

have been an emotional wreck for he last 24hrs, have cried more than in entire pregnancy - poor DP. have even cancelled my sister coming round today as just don't think i'd be good company - everyone is annoying me Blush

on the plus side plumber should be here shortly as have been without heating and hot water intermittently all week, hopefully will be all fixed today.

starting to get into this maternity leave malarkey, think as am not signed off sick now, the guilt has gone away and am just thinking of nice ways to pass the day

had NHS ante-natal class on tues. first session of 3. was pretty useless tbh as just a Q&A session and the midwife kept going off on 30 minute tangents so think we only got about 4 questions answered, one of those being about pooing in labour and the other about when to resume sex after birth (both of these came from the v young single girls- bless!)
everyone else looked horrified inc. midwife at the the though of sex before 6 weeks. she kept reminding them that it was all too easy to get pg again! Grin
I was the most pg one there as forgot to hand my form in - am looking forward to the next session as it's all about pain relief and labour positions, hopefully DP will get something out of it too.

Mibby · 28/10/2010 08:55

celestine poor you that sounds awful. Hope the pain eases quickley and baby stays put!

comtessa I should be ok for that, not much on next week unless the bump does anything exciting

JFly · 28/10/2010 08:59

Oh my, celestine! That's some serious sneezing! Poor you. Hope they can give you pain relief, at the least.

I didn't have any BH with my first and went 2 weeks overdue with not one niggle until the day I went into labour. This time, I've had BH (infrequently) from around 29 weeks. One episode was just tightening of abdomen, the others have been period-like lower back pains. MW assures me it's normal and that if it was labour it would intensify and turn into "something".

Generally I find if I do too much physical activity or lift my DS too much then I will get BH. So, is my body telling me to take it easy. And sorry to say, but BH can go on and on without signalling imminent labour. So, best to just expect to go beyond due date if you can. Otherwise it can be very frustrating! (Says the woman who knows the latest date by which she'll give birth! Blush)

celestinelass · 28/10/2010 09:15

Thanks everyone xx feeling very sorry for myself lol. 48 hrs ago I'd have given anything for labour to start, now I will be hoping I'm overdue lol.

I think my sneeze just scared baby or they had their foot in just the right spot to act as a weapon of rib destruction!

The doc explained that all our ligaments are soft and vulnerable in pg late stages, the back is not that well supported. People regularly injure ribs through sneezing and coughing.....baby just makes it worse.

Still.....it's a great story to tell our future sports star child....'your kicking was so hard, you broke your mothers rib!'

Fenouille · 28/10/2010 09:38

celestine Shock ouch, you poor thing.

Vix that's all my BH are so far - just tightenings.

bunny thanks for the good wishes but at your bathroom joke (it was a joke, right?) Wink

comtessa sounds lovely, and you're not too far away from my parents. Unfortunately I am (and I'll probably be busy by then anyway!), so have fun.

About to head off to the hospital. Don't know if we'll get there though as I've just found out a strike demo left from just around the corner from it 30 minutes ago. Nothing like a good strike to get you in the mood for labour AngryGrin

grinningbee · 28/10/2010 09:50

celestinelass Shock I do hope you're feeling better soon. That sounds incredibly painful. Poor you!

Bathroom saga continues here. Floor guys have been and done stage one of the floor... and have told me I can't walk on it now for 5 hours.

Great.

Still loads and loads of bh here. Got a bit of back ache yesterday, but I can't imagine anything happening. He is sure to wait until the A1 is being closed in a week or so for night time work so I have to go via bumpy country roads instead!!

PrivetDancer · 28/10/2010 10:24

OMG celestine!! that sounds dreadful! You poor thing! Hope you get a couple of weeks to recover before the baby appears! Bed rest should in theory convince them to stay put.

fen best of luck!

I'm on my way into the office for the last time for a while. Still working for another two weeks but only at home from now on, so I don't have to worry about going into labour and having to get a train home!
Have treated myself to a first class ticket and going in about 3 hours later than normal :o
Have even put make up on!!
