I have been for a long walk today. Didn't make anything happen though. Am officially bored now. DD (bless her!) has upped her 'is the baby coming out now?' campaign, and has begun telling me all the things I will be able to do when the baby comes out. Apparently the first things I will be able to do will be to run and carry her again Hmm.

I went out early autumn hunting in the car too, today. The only other foot follower mad enough to be up at that time in the morning was a very, very elderly member of the extremely wealthy landed gentry, who I followed round in his car because a) he had a map and b) there was noone else to talk to. We shared my thermos of tea and a packet of ginger biscuits, I told him where the hunt was as we couldn't see much in the forest and he was deaf and couldn't hear it either, and generally spent a jolly hour in each other's company. Then we both decided to go home, as we weren't seeing much going on, and before he drove off he invited me to the meet at his estate next week. I said 'I'll be there, baby permitting,' and looked down at my tummy. At which point he looked down too, his eyes wide with surprise, and exclaimed 'oh! Goodness, gracious!' in a manner which suggested he had not noticed I was pregnant. So I spent the rest of the day feeling smug that maybe I wasn't as blimp-like as all that, and then cought sight of myself later on reflected in a shop window. Fuck me, I am massive! Still - here's to sneezing sometime in the next week or so and shedding 4 stone while I'm at it. That'll have to be a lot of snot. Confused

Drom you can never have too many books. About anything. OH and I are book-o-maniacs, and DD is showing signs of going the same way.

Ha box he sounds rather charming. There you go, proof positive that it is not even noticeable that you are pregnant. I am sure the walks are doing some good!

Yes I too have noticed that my rapidly expanding book collection doesn't contain much info on actually minding and caring for a tiny baby (actually, I think perhaps the last section of the pregnancy book isn't bad - though I have only skimmed it so far...). Anyway, I have heard the Penelope Leach one is good, so perhaps I shall invest fairly soon.

I had an appt with the midwife yesterday, which went well and we had a good chat. She was less inclined to be dismissive of the sensations that I have been assuming are braxton hicks - and asked me to describe a few times what the tightening is like and when it happens. She wondered about a UTI and had to pee in a pot for the first time (it went well) and she has sent it off for analysis. I had actually been feeling a touch of cystitis as well for a day or two, so she may well be on to something. I have bought myself some wildly overpriced pure unsweetened cranberry juice from the Nature shop. It tastes just disgusting so is probably doing wonders :)

no I am not laying a baybee. I am however in a foul mood and have already nearly cried at my dad and step mum down the phone.

poor you cossie, you must be feeling a wee bit fed up ;) thanks for your message on fb! Is a lovely sunny day here and off for walk on deserted pebbly beach with family in a sec. It is very rugged and lovely - will post up some pics later on today... Also had best scampi ever yesterday, so much so I had 2 portions. :)

wanted to say that my doula actually thought that the amount I had been reading was probably a bit counterproductive to my already controlling and probably quite anxious sensibilities (my words not hers). I was quite upset after our first session mainly because I knew that she and mr moo were right about that. I've been reading this Ina May Guide to Childbirth since being here and I can't tell you how positive and calm it has made me feel. Anyway big recommendation from the south coast if you want to make another amazon purchase. In a way I'm glad I waited til now to read as its only now that I really began to feel the heebie jeebies about the impending birth in 9 weeks...

hope you all had a fab bank holiday.

Oh dear, poor CosLettice. Do you think the baybee is holding out for a new thread? We could talk LOTS and hurry things along. Not many posts left.

I resolve not to say anything more about laying babies as I imagine you're about ready to kill anyone who asks if you've had it yet.

Instead, have this lovely curry and a pineapple lassi to go with it.

drom Don't buy too many (or even more than one) real-live-baybee book. They'll all have conflicting information and their aim is to leave you a sobbing wreck on the bottom step of the stairs questioning your every move. Your instincts will be right - assuming you're not smoking crack. Also, at first I'd suggest staying away from "routine-based" books - because you won't have a routine the first few weeks and they'll do is undermine you. Oh yes, some of them like to encourage a routine (i.e., "controlled" crying) when your pregnancy-bounty is 2 days old...

skater would you really queue-jump? Poor cossie.

I didn't really get to read the labour bits of the books - I'd skim read them in the style of medee and then slammed their covers shut. I was going to do "all that shit" on ML. Hmm

I got 3 natural/hypno/hippy type birth books already, because I've decided I don't want one of those painful, inconvenient, leave-your-house births.

I am still in the blissful stage where bump is compact and manageable. I reckon I will probably get to about 6.5 months before I start to think "there is no way THIS is getting out of THERE without some serious technical tooling and heavy pharmaceuticals".

For now I can continue to dream about birthing peacefully in my kitchen to the accompaniment of Radio 4, and the smell of Diptyque candels and hot buttered crumpets wafting around the room. Smile

I wanted one of those, too! Have gone for compromise of birthing centre about five mins walk away, but still quite fancy homebirth. Might have a chat to midwife and TNB about it.

Muser · 31/08/2010 19:03

I'm hoping I can use the birthing centre in the hospital, rather than the labour ward. It's spanking new. I'd go for a homebirth but not in our tiny flat with the bad soundproofing.

Muser · 31/08/2010 19:03

When I told MrM I would like to use a birthing pool his reply was "isn't that hippy shit". I'm not sure I shall invite him to the birth.

ouch, Drom.

I'm getting sciatica in my buttocks whenever I have sat down for too long. Not good.

Am feeling better now! It got so bad that I got a bit worried, then I walked home from the tube. Bit of exercise helped a lot (hate it that gym teachers were right) and it turned out to be constipation/trapped wind. Am VERY glad I didn't phone midwife in panic.

Re: "hippy shit". TNB's response to my carefully researched baby-led weaning plan (yes, am getting ahead of self) was much the same. Am not sure I shall be inviting him to the next eighteen years of Berwhale's life.

Please come and join us Cass! We need new blood, everyone is going to give birth next week. Come join us and talk puking and falling asleep at 8.30pm.

LADEEZ we are nearing the end of the fred. Whose going on the Not List? And what shall we call the new fred? I feel we require something marvellous to rival the Palace's wonderful boarding school theme.

fanks ladies

I am feeling a bit homeless, a bit in between freds right now. But I am utterly miz today as have been throwing up all day after 4 days of not throwing up at all, and it's not fair to talk about that in le palais, so I thought I'd see if you ladies would welcome a new face.

8.30?? You ladies make it to 8:30???

Muser · 31/08/2010 19:59

Oh poor stupot. Can the docs give you some drugs to stop the vomiting? I felt sick all the time in the first weeks but I only threw up in the mornings and sometimes evenings. Never all day. How grim. Here, have a sit down and some anti-sickness ice pops (these do exist).

Now, can everyone please ignore that 'whose' in my post. I did, of course, mean who is.

I'm on my 2nd lot of antivom drucks already. The first lot made me so dizzy and dopey I couldn't get out of bed. The second lot were working better; just had a long weekend where, although I felt sick, I wasn't sick, managed to eat bits and bobs and even got out and about.

But today has come from nowhere really, and has thrown me Sad . I ended up in hosp with HG last time, and so I know that I tend to panic at feeling sick / being sick as it was so horrific last time. It's definitely been better this time, but today really wasn't any fun. Have big headache now as not kept much fluid down today.

If tomorrow is no better will go back to GP. Have booking in appt 2moro, right now the thought of getting myself there is overwhelming.

Anyway. I'm so sorry. Mememe, not a good introduction. But it's been a hard day.

How many week are you both now, Muse & Drom ? I think you're a month-ish ahead of me, Muse? I'm 9 weeks Friday.

Casserole · 31/08/2010 20:09

ps Muse I think the nausea is more debilitating than the actual throwing up. So don't undersell yourself there.
