FP wanted to ask you what have you/will you do regarding Bonnie and Clyde's sleeping arrangements? Currently Mini Okie is in the cot still and I don't really want to buy another cot as I am hoping he will be soon ready to go into a bed and new baby can move into cot. Have you moved Bonnie into a bed (did it go OK?), basically what is your set up??

In addition Mini Okie will need to move into a new bedroom (as well as a different bed) and I just wonder if it would be best to move cot into new room while he gets used to new room rather than turfing him out of his cot and room at the same time once baybeeee comes along. (In addition, he will be due to move rooms at nursery just about the same time as baybeee due!)

Mini Okie moved from mosses basked to cot at 11 weeks last time but he could have moved earlier so I am just trying to pre-empt timings etc...

CurlyCasper · 26/08/2010 12:16

I was 36+1...

honey if you can manage to stay out of rooms for a day or two (one at a time), try the Bob Martin Flea Fogger. They worked a treat for us (I have managed to twice move into houses with serious infestations, didn't even have pets at the time and got bitten to buggery Angry). Would recommend that Mr Moo does it though, nasty stuff to inhale. It will get every critter in the room.

FannyPriceless · 26/08/2010 12:20

okes We have two cots. Well, a cot for Clyde (Bonnie's old one) amd a cot bed for Bonnie currently set up as a cot.

We haven't tried Bonnie with a bed for several reasons - mainly because we are sleeping downstairs and she is upstairs on her own, but also because she generally sleeps as an upside-down star fish so would probably fall out and is hopeless with blankets... god, listen to me! Actually I suspect the real reason we haven't tried is that I am too head-in-the-sand about having to face this transition and don't know where to start.Blush

My sister says 'Just put her in a bed! They usually only fall out once.'Shock

So the short answer is, don't look to me for guidance as I haven't the first clue how to do this. My whole plan*, given the circumstances of my pg, was to keep everything else as simple as possible for now, and deal with the fallout later.

*if you can call it that

OkieCokie · 26/08/2010 12:37

ok, thanks fp. I see you can get something like this which my SIL swears by for transition along with gate on door! Mini Okie also often ends up head at feet end but I am hoping by time baby number 2 comes along he may be more ready... reckon cot in the new room while new baybee is in with us may do the trick and then move him to his own bed just before baybee moves from mosses to cot...

SilverSky · 26/08/2010 13:23

The other night to combat the insomnia I laid on my back and was v v v comfortable and I nealy always wake up in this position.

Haz dilemma. Need new bras. Do I wait til milk comes in or do I do now? Am 32+2. Him Indoors thinks it's hilarious that boobage is still increasing. This morning when i was getting dressed with my back to him that he could see my boobs. I said that's not possible. He said yes as they are poking out the side and heading for freedom. Bet you all have a flattering image now eh!!? Guess it's only gonna get worse too.

BabySky will def be involved with horses. ESP if it involves free child care and gin and fizzy cola bottles! Just need to sell the car and purchase luxury wagon avec loo, shower, heatig etc etc.

Backinthebox · 26/08/2010 13:33

Er, we just plonked DD in a full sized single bed when she was about 18 months old. She is so tall she kept climbing out over the sides of her cot, and we figured it was less hazardous for her to fall out of bed then fall from the height of a cot. Besides, she was well practiced sleeping in beds as she had spent most of the earlier 18 months in our bed anyway. Hmm A stairgate at the top of the stairs is good, although we had to do away with that too as the gate was causing our 450 year old cow shit and straw walls to collapse in the hallway! DD has only fallen down the stairs once so far (touch wood....)

I have been for a walk - out for 2 hours (although an hour and a half of that was spent sitting in a friend's kitchen eating her biscuits.) Does that count as exercise, do you think?

Backinthebox · 26/08/2010 13:39

BTW Silver I've found the hunting community(with their associated Pony Clubs) to be one of the most child-friendly bunches of people around. Kids are just expected to play with ponies and mud and not get trampled by the big horses too much while mother has another swig from the flask of homemade raspberry vodka. Otoh, the showing bunch seem to be far too precious about children. The number of times I've had 'ooh, don't bring your pram too close. It will freak my horse out!' and I just think FFS and roll my eyes.

DD loves her neigh-neigh! She loves Clucky's daughter too, but there was trouble when she was asked to let her daughter have the first ride on the Shitland!

FannyPriceless · 26/08/2010 14:33

box Yes, I am probably making too much of the bed transition thing. I can easily plonk a gate on the door of her room - but will have to make her room properly safe first.Blush When we are in NZ she'll have to sleep in a bed and I think I'm secretly hoping that the novelty of the situation will do the job for me.

Agree about difference btw the hunt/P2P/PC crowd and showing. And I just love playing the 'compare and contrast' game over the colour schemes and condition of the horse boxes! This versus this.Grin Not that there's anything wrong with showing, I just don't get it as an end in itself.

CluckyKate · 26/08/2010 14:37

Actually, I think little chick would love another go on said pone...she is loving hosses atm & demanding to see them before and after nursery. Think she prefers it to home. I'd heard that OBH can be a bit snooty. V&C gets my vote for their delicious cherry cake . Wondering whether I could manage a hound exercise - d'you think dobbin would be fit enough Box???

I had orchestral version of Peter & the Wolf Vag with Carnival of the Animals on the B-side. Also has a super album of Disney songs which makes my Mum feel sick (she was pregnant while I played it incessantly & can't watch Disney films without the old nausea coming back Confused)

Okes - we put little chick into a toddler bed at 18 months. Was worries about her moving around but she stays put in the bed (unlike in cot). Got her to choose bedding (thought she'd choose tractors & animals but she went for pink flowers & fairies instead) which might have helped her bond with the new bed.

Muser · 26/08/2010 14:38

My nephew falls asleep behind his gate. Without the gate he'd wander the house, so a gate was put on his door. He still gets out of his bed, and you'll go and find him asleep on the floor, bum in the air, clutching a muslin cloth.

It is desperately cute, but I want to know HOW he can fall asleep like that! On the wooden floor, with knees bent under him. Kids are weird.

CluckyKate · 26/08/2010 15:07

Yep - v. wierd Muse. When we were in Spain DD would walk to door & curl up on stone floor in similar position using cuddly horse as a pillow.....looked v. uncomfortable to me!!!

OkieCokie · 26/08/2010 15:32

Mini Okie often falls asleep knees tucked up with bum in the air. I try and pull his legs out flat as surely it must be more comfy and he resumes the position almost immediately. Very cute though I agree Muse

Thanks for all the tips. I think I am overly worrying about it all.

Cosmosis · 26/08/2010 17:28

ski induction date of Sat 4th, unless I decide to cancel it and wait a bit longer.

Cosmosis · 26/08/2010 17:33

Am feeling pretty down. I had appointment at hosp this afternoon, she did a sweep, apparently cervix is still quite closed, so don't think it will have done any good. They gave me the induction date above, and I can just feel this nice waterbirth slipping away and ending up with a really stressful induction with TGO not being able to cope :(

OP posts:
Muser · 26/08/2010 18:17

Induction date is still a good time away Cos, don't despair. Get scrubbing that kitchen floor! And sex. Lots of sex. Come on baby!

Backinthebox · 26/08/2010 18:29

Ah, don't worry Cos. Lots can happen between now and then. They've given you the full 14 days too, which is promising. They have to get them booked in because you would not believe the number of people who book miles in advance to go into hospital for baybee-laying on a very precise date! Confused They are just making sure there is a back up plan in place rather than getting to 42 weeks and then you going 'OK, now what?' and them having no plan at all! You are only 4 days over - DD started off completely naturally at 8 days overdue. At 4 days you would have thought she was never going to come out, but she did.

FP give me the green beat up one over the purple one Confused I went to a show once and a big pink lorry with silver stripes pulled up beside us, and the very camp bloke proceeded to tell us we would have to keep our mares out of his stallion's way. We just looked at him gormlessly and carried on eating our picnic. When he got out this shrieking tiny Welsh thing he could barely hang on to we nearly cried laughing, and told him we thought our 16hh mares would be safe from his 10.2hh stallion, unless he would like to borrow a mounting block. He harrumphed and moved his pink lorry, muttering 'some people!' Well, he had pulled up next to us Hmm

Little chick always welcome to have a pony ride!

SkiHorseWonAWean · 26/08/2010 20:01

cossie I'm going to assume the sweep didn't hurt else you'd have moaned about it here. This is good surely? Can you get a sweep every 24/48 hours in the hope that it'll get things kicking off? You won't get to read this as I'm sure TGO is currently having you hike up the Pennines! Wink

To offend you hossie gals, I've just bought a pink (and brown) turnout rug. It was 25 quid in Robinson's sale. Shoot me. Grin

Bear spent another afternoon at the stables, he was by the lockers in his maxi-cosi when my mare called out - he screamed haha! Ginger is very curious about him and had a good sniff.

rollerbaby · 26/08/2010 21:05

cossie chin up girl... it's still ages away. lots of displacement activity to get things moving... x

silver I feel your boobage pain. Am back in the shitty non wired bras and refuse to buy any more for now. Total waste of money!!

All - off on holibobs tomorrow. Only south coast so expect I will get bored and drop in by tomorrow afternoon. missing you already.

rollerbaby · 26/08/2010 21:06

okie have a fab loooooong weekend.

FannyPriceless · 26/08/2010 21:56

cos Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Still plenty of time.

Have you looked into what your options are if overdue? Most people assume you have to be induced if 2 weeks over but I understand that's not actually the case. Can you arm yourself with lots of sensible MN info in case you have to have this conversation with the hospital?

ski Consider yourself shot.

SilverSky · 26/08/2010 23:22

Pink AND brown ? Your ned will be laughed out the paddock!

Today me and Him Indoors got right stitched up. Had family meal with my SIL plus hubs plus kids. Somehow we ended up splitting the cost of the meal by couples. So basically we paid for some of their kids. Didnt have the energy to get all cross about it at the time !

SkiHorseWonAWean · 27/08/2010 08:10

silver 25 of your English pounds www.robinsons-uk.com/products/ProductList.asp?topGroupCode=008&parentGroupCode=0803&groupCode=080307#sku.51412 - her boyfriend will not laugh at her, he will mount her and bum her anyway. :( Last year he wore a burgundy check rug - he's a metrosexual.

That's bang out of order - of course if you say anything they'll say that "oh but you'll have a little one soon " - yes, but BabySilver won't be ordering from the menu for a while. Gits.

Backinthebox · 27/08/2010 09:05

Actually Ski, cheap rugs is one concession I will make to pink horsey shit. In truth I have never dressed my horse in a pink rug, but I have put him in baby blue rugs before - he came over all camp! Then he trashed it, just like he has with virtually every other rug he ever had. So I figured I might as well buy the cheapest ones, regardless of colour. Racehorse, though, has not shown any tendencies towards rug trashing yet (although he has a nifty line in jumping out of the field Hmm) and Shitland obviously does not need rugs, even though when I got her she arrived with 13 - count 'em! - rugs.

Last night's active birth session was fab. OH finally learnt how to do a proper labour massage. It was something he did not make the effort to learn last time and nearly resulted in me punching him when he did it wrong.

SilverSky · 27/08/2010 09:13

We are active birth workshopping in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it. Hopefully will give Him Indoors some useful tips which will potentially save his life. As at the minute I imagine me being in shitloads of pain and looking at him for support / reassurance and him saying "what do you want me say/do? You knew it was going to hurt" as be reclines back in his chair with his selection of magazines and snacks waiting for me to get it over and dine with so he can meet his baybee.

Went to bed late last night, woke up just before six needing a comfort break, hopped back into bed and woke up at five to nine. Result! Time for food!!

Got a trillion things to do today assuming I can motivate my lazy arse off the sofa

Cosmosis · 27/08/2010 09:17

Thanks birds, you are right, it may well come on its own before that!

In my even longer than usual insomnia session last night, I decided that I'm really not happy to be induced just because it's hospital policy, I am not policy I am a person. I'm completely low risk, so can't see a good reason at all. I will book an appointment for next Thurs for another sweep (ski it was uncomfortable, but not painful, slightly more uncomfortable than a smear, but only because it lasted a bit longer) and a discussion about alternatives for induction.

I spent most of yesterday evening fighting back the tears, so I do feel better for having made that decision.
