For the love of god medee, you can't go around recklessly carrying cakes! Shock

cossie I trust the patisserie does a fine line in stinky cheeses and cured meats?

Cosmosis · 29/08/2010 17:58

Nope, just a cake shop and cafe. But oh the cakes......

Found a lovely deli in York though that was full to bursting of unpasterised stinky cheese :)

Medee · 29/08/2010 18:14

I only carried them a very short way, I promise! And I resisted licking the raw mixture, mostly.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 29/08/2010 18:23

"carried them a short way" = "ate them as they came out of the oven"?

rollerbaby · 29/08/2010 18:51

Allo tis I, Moo, ipadding from Kentish coast. cossie checking in to see that you are engaging in worthwhile cake and gin consumption. I like. Think it's really unfair that they have to scare you with notion of induction when you should be cincentrating on relaxing...

Glad to hear you have had nice and low results muse & drom...

I've been indulging in crab, lobster, coq au vin, cake, crumble and two glasses of viognier in last few days. As you can see food is holiday highlight... Also halfway through ina may gaskin guide to childbirth. Anyone remotely interested in positive uplifting birth stories I can recommend.

SilverSky · 29/08/2010 20:21

Welcome back hollibob peeps.

Those who have a penchant for carrying cakes - be very careful!!!! You know how dangerous that is!!!

Today I found stretch marks on my tum. GAH. Just a couple. Purple ones at the base of tum and not very big. I asked Him Indoors to inspect for stretch marks and he reported "negative ma'am". Clearly He is a lying toad. I feel punishment is necessary. I send him out for McFlurries. Tis the only cure.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 30/08/2010 11:11

Hello all,

I seem to spend my weekends tidying and sorting these days - so much junk to deal with in order to have a modicum of space for babyje. But we are getting there! It will all be worth it.

muse - I knitted the "umbilical cord hat" (slightly vile name - presumably referring to the knot at the top) in the S 'n B book out of the same wool as the blanket. 'Tis adorable! It's a bit hard to do and gets seriously faffy at the very end - BUT it's also quite small compared to the blanket and can be knitted in a single wknd instead of taking months and months. I recommend! Gonna make another few as gifts I reckon - possibly with assorted booties. V. cute... If you decide to make it, note that the book suggests knitting it on round wire needles. I discovered that this is actually impossible with standard length ones - you would need a special very short set. However, the pattern also calls for a set of 5 double pointed needles for the decreasing part of the hat - and these can actually be used instead of the wire needles for the first bit as well. You just need to use the "Knitting in the Round" instructions from the relevant section of the book. Sorry if this is a very boring and long-winded explanation by the way Blush - but I bought the suggested wire needles especially and was very annoyed to discover that they were no good...

drom - great news on the nuchal results. It all starts to feel very real at that point...and I think I actually finally kinda relaxed (apart from the occasional recurrent panic attack) after the 20 week scan.

Started pregnancy yoga at the weekend too. It was lovely! Dunno what you thought of it silver but I must say I found it helpful and also kind of surreal and amazing to be together with so many other pregnant women - surreptitiously checking out their bumps and various amazing shapes. It was all very satisfactory.

Cakecakecake. I am wanting some now. What was wrong the cupcakes Medee? Bet they were lovely.

honey - those Ina May Gaskin stories are great! Though I'm not crazy about the one with the post-partum woman climbing into the bed with the labouring woman. Erm yeah. My SIL is due 2 weeks before me - maybe we could work out a similar arrangement...Wink

Cos Hope you are feeling fine!!

Cosmosis · 30/08/2010 12:29

My step SIL had her baybee yesterday - she wsa due on 26th, so she's a no fair queue jumper! ickle boy. Very pleased for her.

And my dad is useless - when he rang to tell me he also said "have you bought a cot" erm yes, we have everything. "oh, I was going to buy you a cot". Yeah cheers, why didn't you say that when we were actually buying stuff, not a week after the baby is due!

Oh and we had the secks this morning, it's been a while! and it wasn't even for induction purposes, it was just because Shock

SkiHorseWonAWean · 30/08/2010 12:34

hahaha sex maniac! Grin

CurlyCasper · 30/08/2010 12:44

might as well get some in now cos. Grin

Cosmosis · 30/08/2010 12:45

lol yes, it could be our last for quite a while!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 30/08/2010 14:02

Step SIL just gave birth, eh cos? Well, you have the perfect opportunity to test out the Ina May Gaskin model of having her come over when you're in labour and hop into bed with you in the nip? Tempted? Grin (actually, despite this one birth story being a bit too full on for squeamish moi, I do actually find the IM Gaskin book amazing). Interesting that you should have a SIL with dates so close by the way. When mine announced she was diffed within a day or two of me finding out I was, scorpette memorably dubbed her a "thunder-stealing bitch". I still find this hilarious (though it must be stated that SIL is in fact lovely and I like her loads)...

SilverSky · 30/08/2010 14:14

switters I liked the yoga a lot. Only ishoo is that it is a six week course but does not start til the 6th and i can't do that eve which means if I start a week later it will be right up to my due date which is not a prob as bound to be late but do I want to be hauling my 38 week ass across town to flop on a yoga mat and breathe heavily? I am not so sure.

cossie doing the secks eh?! You are outta control. Him indoors suggested the secks this morning. I declined! Really not feeling it at the mo.

I cannae believe the squids go back to school this week, where have the summer hols gone? I'll have to start leaving a bit earlier to get to work on time again. Amazing the impact school traffic has!

Muser · 30/08/2010 19:11

I wonder if the secks has worked and Cos is even now laying a baby.

I have done nothing but eat and sleep today, it has been great.

Medee · 30/08/2010 20:00

they had sunk and were a bit dry, Switty

Medee · 30/08/2010 20:00

oh, and suddenly our library had all its pregnancy books back in, all with the same due date, and two written in dates, so someone had been hogging them.

Muser · 30/08/2010 20:39

How many pregnancy books does one person need?

Medee · 30/08/2010 20:44

well indeed, I just wanted a wee read of the Mumsnet one, to see what it was like, which I have now finally been able to borrow.

PerfectDromedary · 30/08/2010 20:47

I apparently need many pregnancy books. Many. Have just spent all my money on Amazon. Oops.

FannyPriceless · 30/08/2010 20:52

drommy Just a thought... don't forget the 'what to do with a new baby' books too.Wink

PerfectDromedary · 30/08/2010 21:04

What, a baby? I'm not having one of those. I'm just pregnant...oh. Oh, I see.

Muser · 30/08/2010 21:36

No no no. No buying the 'what to do with a baby' books until you're 2 weeks overdue. If we're not reading ahead to the labour bits we definitely don't want to think about what to do when baby arrives!

I am blissfully ignoring all of that stuff.

By the way, I haven't thrown up for THREE DAYS. I love bank holidays. I rarely throw up on weekends (as long as I get to sleep in) and 3 days of no puking is bliss.

PerfectDromedary · 30/08/2010 21:48

Lovely friend lent me lovely NCT book. Is ALL ABOUT labour. Badness.

Glad to hear sickness is improved by lie-ins. Any way you could negotiate working at home in the morning and coming into the office at lunchtime? Might make your life easier...

Medee · 30/08/2010 21:50

oh that is good, Muse.

I saw the library has What to Expect the First Year, so I could always borrow it with Commitment.
