Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know that I just need to keep the low GI diet going after the baby arrives to lose the baby weight plus some more and get into shape, but last time I was so fed up with it by 40 weeks that I just splurged. This time I need more willpower.

moonminmama · 29/08/2010 08:09

It's so hard keeping weight down. I was determined not to go up the 2 dress sizes I did with ds and that was 2 maternity dress sizes Sad I can see and feel it already going on my bum and thighs. I really want to domsomething about it.

I did a lot of running before getting pg and really miss it. I don't know how some women keep going, there is no way I could run now. I'm going to visit the local leisure centre this week as I think they offer a variety of classes including aqua aerobics etc.

I think I am more likely to eat better when I go back to work to as I won't be able just nip out and buy what ever junk food I want. I won't be sat on my bum as much either.

I hope the nausea does start to fade soon for us all so that we don't need to constantly have food!

angels1 · 29/08/2010 08:15

thanks wigglesrock. I hope your sickness if getting better too. Past couple of days I've mnaged to eat porridge, which I haven't had for years, but at least I feel like it's good for me! (not so sure about the syrup that gets drizzled on the top though Hmm ). Thanks also for the luck re: having to go to court (I didn't do anyting naughty btw to everyone else - I was at the scene of a fatal accident and helped injured people and they want me in court as a witness despite not seeing the accident). Problem is, I know I'll probably have to go and do it but I also know the stress wil really make me ill - I cry just at the thought of having to remember what happened and I'm a very anxious person - I'll just make myself ill and I can see it coming. I only said I'd go to court (got the letter just after BFP) as my mum said not to worry and they won't make me do it due to stress and being pregnant...from what mn say it's not so straight forward.. anyway, sorry for hijacking thread too!

Am jealous of all those watched x factor. It's my guilty pleasure (that and 'the hotel inspector' - no idea why I enjoy them so much!!) but DH can't stand either of them and after putting DH through what he calls 'torture' over the past few seasons I've given in and I'm being a nice wifey and we watched a nature program on elephants instead!

And I thought I'd share that I have very odd tingling nipples this morning Grin . Very odd - they had got less sensitive but got more sensitive yesterday and now it's tingle-city! ANyone else?!

Elle thanks for the info on restless leg - I get my blood results in a few days so we shall see how iron levels are.

Have a good sunday. I have the joy of next door having a big hog roast party (help!). Windows and doors shut I fear as meat at the best of times isn't good (I'm veggie) let alone with terrible pg nose for smells.

moonminmama · 29/08/2010 08:37

Oh angels poor you. Firstly on court appearance and secondly on neighbours pArty (although my first thought was mmmmh!) can't be much fun as a pg veggie though sorry! Take yourself off out somewhere nice to take your mind off both!

It's my ds 4th birthday party at 10am at local pub that has a separate soft play area. It's a bonus that friends of ours run it Smile I should really get myself out of bed and and into the shower!

Everton is on this afternoon and I promised dh that I'd take ds out for a couple of hours so he can watch it. My family are all on their way back from wemberly after going to watch the final yesterday... Lucky buggers. Anyway hope you all have a lovely day x

moonminmama · 29/08/2010 08:38

Ps no angels not had tingly nipples... Very sore ones at times but not tingly

janedoe25 · 29/08/2010 08:58

Hi Ladies, not been on here in a while had my annual care commission inspection (im a childminder) so every waking moment has been focused on paperwork! Hope everyone is doing well. Angels try not to worry too much about court, i was called as a witness when i was 18 after i was attacked on a bus. In the end he pleaded guilty and i wasn't called into the court room.

Pfft Nipples! Mine are bloody sore at times, even worse when im cold! In the past 2 wks i have started throwing up, thought i had got lucky but no started late! (im now 15 wks pg)

knittakid · 29/08/2010 12:07

re nipples, tingly as in itchy? then yes, a lot. Try not to stress too much, sorry you have to go through such a thing.

I can't keep up with this thread, thanks for sling/knitting replies. Lately I seem to have no energy for anything, not like in the beginning, when it was just pure exhaustion, but more like constant letargy and apathy, don't want to do anything, and I'm normaly always doing or making something. Also nausea is back after two weeks of really nice eating, how anoying... sorry, feeling a bit down as you can see.

Apologies for a moaning post.

knittakid · 29/08/2010 12:08

I meant sorry about going to court, not the tingly nipples...

MizK · 29/08/2010 19:23

Angels hope court thing is not too horrid, last thing you need I'm sure. Not experienced anything similar thank goodness so can only offer sympathy rather than advice.

I'm feeling a bit (a lot) guilty today as yesterday could not restrain self from inhaling a brie and cranberry sandwich. Now mind is filled with dread thoughts of listeria for my poor little beansprout. Anyone else got any bad pregnant mummy confessions or is it just me? Btw I even ate it in the car on my way home from work so my DP wouldn't find out and read me the riot act - so adding deception to illicit cheese eating on my list of crimes! Have been really good about avoiding alcohol etc but for some reason I caved. Please tell me I'm not the only one!

wigglesrock · 29/08/2010 20:14

MizK I miss brie more than any other thing I've given up even smoking!! I almost wept in front of M&S sandwich counter last week, only for the fact that I can't hold anything down I'd be inhaling with you. During my previous pregnancies after the initial 20 weeks or so I caved and cooked the brie, grilled it on toast and enjoyed every roasting, oops just burned my mouth bit!!

smallblackflowers · 29/08/2010 20:23

MizK I had a sneaky prawn mayo sandwich last week - couldn't help myself. Craving brie and pate really badly, but not given in to those temptations yet. Am sure that cooked brie is more than fine as all nasties will be heated to extinction.

I think my 18 mo DD may have chicken pox. Its just been one thing after the other since she started nursery. Am not sure though as there are no spots on her torso, they are mainly confined to the area around her joints, and a couple on her face and bottom. Anyone have any experience of this?

Tarlia · 29/08/2010 20:48

miz Try not to fret, you'd be ill now if you were going to be, but it's so unlikely. I've personally never heard of anyone effected by listera. Cooking the Brie is a good idea, I'd not thought of that mmmm

Hmm, I've been defrosting prawns and eating prawn salads. I didn't realise this was banned.. I know raw fish/shellfish is but these are cooked!?! Would be great if anyone has any idea..

As for Chicken pox, do they look like little liquid filled blisters/drops of water on skin? If so then this is likely to be chicken pox. I hope she gets well soon x

smallblackflowers · 29/08/2010 20:55

Thanks Tarlia - not blisters, little pink pimples grouped together, some with 'white heads'. Think I should probably post on the health board...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 29/08/2010 21:48

MizK, I very nearly did on Friday. I was in Sainsbury's looking at the goats' cheese with white mould rind and I wanted some sooo badly. If there had been any that was even vaguely ripe I would have bought it and eaten it right then, but it was all pretty hard so I knew it would be tasteless. So I had some Wensleydale with cranberries instead.

I did have some blue cheese a couple of months ago.

Since I discovered that bagged salad is a greater listeria risk than cheese or pate (which I hadn't realised in any previous pregnancy, and accordingly have never laid off the bagged salad in previous pregnancies even when religiously avoiding Brie and Stilton) I have decided not to stress too much on the cheese front (am still trying to avoid, though).

Prawns are fine so long as you're confident of the source -- specifically checked that when pregnant with DD.

zerominuszero · 29/08/2010 22:29

Thanks Professor Layton, that clears things up a lot. Hopefully I'll be OK, glucose-wise.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 29/08/2010 22:56

sbf -- if none on her torso I would guess that it's more likely to be hand foot & mouth than chicken pox. But it can be difficult to tell the difference.

tadjennyp · 30/08/2010 02:33

I read on a French pregnancy website that cutting off the rind of camembert reduces the risk of listeria. I had some grilled the other day and also had a tiny amount of stilton. I didn't realise about the bagged salads, but as I'm in America, maybe the risk is different? Hope everyone is having a great bank holiday. Ours is next week and I really want to go to the coast. We're lucky to be only four hours away, which is close for America!

angels1 · 30/08/2010 09:43

Oh dear, I've eaten tons of bagged salad since getting pg Confused . Mw did tell me to wash bagged salad first 'just to make sure' but I thought she was being OTT and haven't bothered...

moonminmama · 30/08/2010 11:05

I had no idea about bagged salad either and I eat lots of that Hmm I love prawns and have been avoiding them. But maybe I'll have a couple every now and again. Prawn cocktail is one of my favourite foods!

Hope everyone is enjoying their bank holiday. The weather here is glorious. Typical, as tge kids go back to school tomorrow!

knittakid · 30/08/2010 11:11

When on Hols it was imposible not to eat prawns and salads that were of doubious sourcing, and have even found that a sip of real ale really helped with nausea (deff. DH's baby then).

Yesterday decided with DH that I'm depressed. Not seriously, but need to start pulling myself together after the letargy of the holidays, and would have happened anyway, so it's not preg. related but rather unemployment related... I can't stand not doing anything, it's just hard when I feel I should be feeling over the moon, and don't.

Have a nice day everyone.

angels1 · 30/08/2010 11:25

oh knittakid, sorry you're a bit under the clouds at the minute (I'm not sure the term being under the weather works for being depressed, so I made up my own!). If it helps I'm often feeling blue, and having had depression in the past know how much is sucks and how it is much different to just feeling a bit down every now and again. I really hope it picks up - can you see your MW/GP?

Agree with knit on the eating out thing too - we may well be super careful at home but when we eat out there's no way they double wash everything and are as careful as we are. I bet most of the salads are bagged when we eat out (depending on how posh the place is you go to I guess, although when I was at uni I worked at a nice private members restaurant and they had bagged salad!) and I bet restaurants never wash them again, same with salad in reasy made sandwiches. It just feels sometimes like exactly how far do they want us to go with being careful...

eeeeeeekkkkk wasp alert....gotta dash before it gets too close!!!

moonminmama · 30/08/2010 11:45

I hhopenyou feel better soon too knittakid. I was really rubbish at about 10 weeks because my sickness was so bad. Was in bed all the time or had to be away from my lovely new house (bloody carpet smell) I hadn't been able to do any washing, cleaning etc anything that I wanted to do while the novelty of the new house was here. Being on summer holidays meant that I was spending a fortune eating out and just browsing the shops which inevitably turned into spending!

It did pass thankfully... Just as I'm going back to work. Typical!

americanexpat · 30/08/2010 14:45

Feeling much better that I'm not the only person standing in front of the naughty cheeses salivating. I've been very tempted by blue cheese - is it completely off limits or is it ok if it's well cooked (like on a pizza)? I would also do unspeakable things for a pint of real ale at the moment, I'm salivating now just thinking about it.

PDR · 30/08/2010 14:57

I eat prawns all the time and did so throughout my 1st pregnancy and all was well. Can't resist a prawn cocktail on a menu (saddo!!!)

Feeling very "hormonal" today!!! Had a stupid row with DH about our summer holiday next year and I am quite regretting it now!!!! I am in the office now and everything seems a lot clearer :s Hope he forgives me!

Have been coveting the Mountain Buggy Duo online....... looks so lovely but we have already about a (second hand) Jane Powertwin in the garage.... DH did prefer the side-by-side prams though and I am thinking about getting the carrycot to use as a moses basket when we go on holiday in June.

Anyone bought anything yet????

tadjennyp · 30/08/2010 17:26

I think a slice of blue cheese on a nice juicy burger would be ok as it would melt. There is an egg recall of a around a billion here, but people have been falling sick with salmonella since May, so who would keep them that long? I think I would be ok as I only buy the organic or cage-free ones. Fingers crossed!

Hope you are feeling better soon knitta. I have been a bit down over the last couple of weeks because I got a little job teaching one student German for a few weeks, just a couple of hours a week. I was really excited as it is my first job in the States, but then it reminded me of how much I love teaching and I last taught three years ago. Sad Having my own job is so good for my confidence!
