Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:

hi byronicheroine welcome. It really doesnsound like your health care is very different over there. I think I would do something similar if I was in your situation.

Morning all. I hope everyone is feeling ok today. I'm going to a funeral this morning, very sad and sudden death of my cousin. Leaving ds with his uncle as I don't think it's appropriate for him to be there.

On a brighter note, I plan on taking him to Tatton Park this afternoon with my brother, so I hope the weather stays nice.

Does anyone else have plans for today?

angels1 · 27/08/2010 08:19

If I had the money byronicheroine I'd get everythign done privately. I always used to say to DH I'll only have kids when we can afford to get the pregnancy stuff done privately as I'm a bit Confused with hospitals, and having had stuff done under private insurance in the past I know how much more generally pleseant it is (well, here anyway).

Worrymummy - thrush - yes, I've got it now for the second time in, erk, 3 weeks! First time I rung doc and she said use canestan pessary and cream. This time I'm just hoping it sorts itself out in the next day or 2 (hopeful thinking I know) or I'll be on another of the pessaries. I get it all the time when I'm not pg anyhows as very sensitive skin. What is the colloidal silver you mention? Never heard of it. I know we can't use the thrush capsule to get rid of it but when I spoke to the doc she mentioned there were other prescription options availablr if canestan doesn't work, but she said they always use it as a first port of call as it's the safest.

smf quinny bug is cumbersome? Advice from here was that it folds down very small so would fit in my little yaris boot - is that not your experience?

Am jealous of all those feeling 'normal' I got exhausted just driving into town and buying a pair of jeans on wednesday, had to lie down for ages after! I'm also getting some crampy pains btw, mainly at night and not painful, just a bit uncomfy. I'm also sneezing alot, but Ihave no idea if it has anything to do with pregnancy!

angels1 · 27/08/2010 08:22

I meant sbf not smf btw!

Moominmama thinking of you at funeral Sad . No plans for me other than maybe a trip to local shops to buy bday pressie for DH's Grandmother. What excitement I live!

moonminmama · 27/08/2010 08:29

angels I get tired and out of breath much more easily than before I have to admit. I couldn't finish telling ds a story in the car the other day because I couldn't catch my breath!

As for the exciting life, well I realised that yesterday was my last ever day of school holidays that I wouldn't have a lo with me. Ds starts school next month and so will be off for all my school holidays from now on. Not a bad thing, although he has always gone to nursery for 3 days a week so in the past I have had a nice balance of 'me' time and time with and ds.

I am the worst person to offer advice on prams. I had the mutsy urban ruder with ds. It is huge!! Luckily they have brought out o new chassis for it which I plan to get for dc2.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/08/2010 08:32

There's a difference between the Quinny Zapp / Quinny Zapp Xtra (the one that folds down very small) and the Quinny Buzz (the one sbf finds cumbersome).

Moby wrap is supposedly very similar to the hug-a-bub, which I liked, so generally a good option.

sweetnitanitro · 27/08/2010 08:35

Sorry about your cousin moominmama :(

I've got a friend coming over today with her 11 mo DS so my DD will be pleased to have a baby to play with. Or not pleased at having to share her toys Grin

byronicheroine, crikey, that does sound very different to the UK! That midwife sounds good though, are you going to go and meet her? Let us know how it goes :)

Wanderingsheep · 27/08/2010 08:35

Good morning! Smile

Welcome and congratulations to Byronicheroine!

Moominmama, so sorry to hear about your cousin. Hope today goes as well as can be expected. The park sounds like a nice idea.

Tadjennyp, that's lovely that your DCs got to hear the heartbeat Smile.
We took DD to the scan last week. She was amazed but then kept lifting my top up to see if she could see the baby!

angels1 · 27/08/2010 08:38

Oh no moominmama I never thought of it like that - this is my last summer holidays EVER without a little person. That's really quite scary and I wish I'd have felt up to making more of it. No more quick dashes around bluewater for a bit of retail therapy (without having to lug buggies etc around), no more impromptu trips to the gym, no lazing about in peace and quiet whenever I want, no more lie ins etc etc... I guess I still have October half term and christmas holidays (although theu'll be spent packing/moving so not quite the same).

Had a dream last night that I had the baby and didnt have anything ready for it and kept sobbing things like 'I don't even have a changing mat' like it was the end of the world, then I had to make DH change the nappies as it made me feel so ill!! Hope this isn't a sign of things to come Wink

brockleyD · 27/08/2010 08:41

Morning ladies,

Went for my 16 week check up yesterday and got to listen to baby's heartbeat, really lovely. I found out my appointment schedule and after my 20 week scan I font have an appointment till 25 weeks, although it has been booked for 26.5!

SweetN said she has one at 22 weeks and 25, what about others?

Hope you all have a good Friday! Bank holiday weekend! But then back to school for me...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/08/2010 08:44

I have one at 24 weeks; not sure after that but it will probably be a couple of weeks after that as they are going to want to see how my blood sugar has been behaving. No real idea afterwards as I'm presumably on a "high risk" schedule.

moonminmama · 27/08/2010 08:45

Lol I'm sure it isn't. I used to wake in the middle of the night after ds was born panicking thinking I had lost him somewhere in the bed and he was squashed (he has never even slept in our bed!) hv said it was perfectly normal Smile

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/08/2010 09:34

Actually the best cure for that was starting to cosleep! I had that dream all the time (really, more nights than not. DH was like this --> Hmm) when DS was in a cot/moses basket but never after he came in with us (I guess because when I woke looking for the baby he was right there so I'd settle back down again.

ledkr · 27/08/2010 09:52

Moomin....I have been out of breath when talking. I just thought i talk to much. was bit worried it was my heart! do you think we get checked automaticaly for anaemia ?
I have put quite a bit of weight on over holiday. Feel bit worried now cos ages to go yet and will end up in obese category by the end. going to re start exercise after dd back at school. Any advice?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/08/2010 09:55

Your regular bloods include an anaemia check, but there's a big swathe in mid-pregnancy where you're between blood tests, so if you think you might be anaemic ask your midwife about getting an extra blood test done.

angels1 · 27/08/2010 10:03

yes I'm worried ledkr about the putting on weight thing as I've put on loads from having to eat to stave off nausea. I've ordered Davina McCalls prenatatal excercise DVD on my love film account, so once it comes and I give it a go I'll let you know (may be a while though). I know swimming is suppose to be good, sadly I can't do that as I get ear infections when I swim (even if I wear the ear plugs and try my hardest not to get my ears wet - I always seem to manage to get a splash master man in the pool when I go). Antenatal aerobics might be good - I know they do it at my gym. My local NCT do yoga classes too.

I've noticed my engagement/wedding rings are really really tight now - before I was pg they were almost too loose and moved about all the time but now I can hardly take them off. I assume this is just water retention and I'm sure I've read hands/feet/ankles can swell in pg. I always assumed this happened nearer the end though.

americanexpat · 27/08/2010 10:06

angels - I'm generally feeling OK but definitely not at my pre-preg energy levels. I find stairs and hills very difficult to manage now and get out of breath very easily. I was absolutely knackered after an off-site meeting yesterday and collapsed into bed for a nap (instead of returning to work).

moominmama - So sorry about your cousin. :(

Deliaskis · 27/08/2010 11:20

moominmama sorry you have a funeral this morning, but on your 'brighter' note, I work at the gates of Tatton Park (well almost, 60 seconds from my desk to the gates) and it's beautiful sunshine at the moment, so hopefully it will lift your spirits after a sad morning.

D

Deliaskis · 27/08/2010 11:24

On a general note, I have a weird feeling that I am starting to get more anxious again. I was happy but pretty anxious for the first fwe weeks until scan and NS, then really happy and relaxed once I had seen heartbeat and little bean jumping around. I now feel like it's ages to 20 week scan and that something might already have gone wrong and I just don't know it yet. I know this is silly, I have no indication of any problems and I know the odds of everything being fine are all in my favour, but I do feel a bit anxious again and it's a shame after a few weeks of feeling elated.

I know this is a tiny problem in the general scheme of things and I have so much to be happy and grateful for, but hey, if I can't say it here, where can I say it?

D

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/08/2010 11:28

That's perfectly normal, Deliaskis -- I've felt exactly the same and it's why I got a doppler first time round (but then it just causes more stress if you can't find the heartbeat one day, so not sure it's really a solution).

Wanderingsheep · 27/08/2010 12:35

Deliaskis, I kind of feel the same and the reason why is because I feel so normal! I don't feel sick, don't have any stretchy/achy feelings, sore boobs are beginning to subside etc. I know that this is supposed to happen but it feels weird, ha!

Roll on to the time when we can feel movement it's so much more reassuring!

Wanderingsheep · 27/08/2010 12:37

We bought a Dopler last time but never actually found DD's heartbeat so I haven't bothered with it this time.

byronicheroine · 27/08/2010 13:21

moonminmama hope your afternoon went well
angels! it feels like going private was the only choice really, and we are far from loaded. Sure it'll all work out in the end... I'm sneezing loads too but I couldn't work out whether it was all the aircon here or what. Maybe just our bodies being oversensitive?
worrymummy I've taken collidal silver (a silver suspension which is supposed to have anti-bacterial and other health effects - BUT is not approved by any official health bodies) before but only for a limited time, and it's impossible to know if it was my immune system or if the silver helped... a with most remedies! The only side effects I read about were in cases where people took it a lot over a long period of time, and they turned blue or grey!! There are a lot of testimonials that are very positive, and I'm sure it would be fine, but as you are pregnant I would check with a midwife/gp before taking anything. Sorry that didn't help much!
sweetnitanitro we've met the midwife and her doctor husband as we do everything - scans, bloods - through their clinic. She is really nice and will be our point of contact throughout the whole process, but we are paying her for it! Also, her husband will be waiting outside the birthing room in case (touch wood) anything goes wrong. I'm pretty happy with the set-up so far

Sam2302 · 27/08/2010 13:48

Hello everyone!

Good to see you're all doing well and reassuring to see things that have been on my mind are also on your minds!

Had my 16wk appt yesterday and it was so nice to hear the baby's HB. It took the midwife a while to find it so I was about to start panicking but then all of a sudden I heard a a loud thudding and was massively relieved! Midwife said the HB is usually louder but either the little monkey was hiding behind something or she said I might have an anterior placenta. Will find out at 20 wk scan I guess. The HB was just about an inch below my belly button though which I find quite surprising as I thought it would be much lower. Has any of you had it that high up?? I do have a massive bump though but I don't really know how that affects things!

Linz17 my 20 wk scan is on the same day as yours - 22 Sept. I soooo can't wait!!! Counting the days down. We're going to find out if it's a little girl or boy so the excitement is going to get worse.

Also been reading that some of you are having GTTs. I also need to have one but it's not till early Nov when I'll be 28 weeks. How long does the GTT take and is it definitely worth taking a book or someone like my mum for company? Also assume you have to wait to eat till they've finished all the testing? Does that mean you can't eat till about lunchtime??? If so, I'm doomed!

Hope you all keep well and have a nice long weekend!

xxx

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/08/2010 13:58

In the UK it's normally 2 hours they take the first blood sample and give you the drink at your scheduled appointment time, then the second blood sample as near as possible to exactly 2 hours later. Definitely take a good book. And yes, you can't eat until they've taken the second blood sample so if you get hungry have a snack with you you can eat as soon as they've done that.

angels1 · 27/08/2010 14:30

Does everyone have to do that blood test or do they just pick on people with certain risk factors? I take it you either have GD or you don't and you can't do much to help it (???).

The thought of a fasting blood sugar test has always filled me with dread Shock
