.....in fact a lot earlier ! Born during the night of the 27th and 27 weeks gestation. He is doing well...though very wee at 775 grms. Early days....
Any words of wisdom/advice from fellow prem parents ? Our DTs were 32 weeks but this is another league...

Peachy · 05/07/2007 13:42

Thats good, worrying not exactly going to help anything anyway is it?

at youir sleeping child, wish my much older ones would follow the same pattern!

mumblechum · 05/07/2007 13:43

Congratulations to you all. Hope Tristan starts piling on the pounds.

OrmIrian · 05/07/2007 13:46

Blimey! only just read this and found out he was so tiny.

Congratulation. Hope things continue to go well

Neigbour had a little boy at 26 weeks. He's jut had his third birthday and it healthy and strong.

Kewcumber · 05/07/2007 13:49

congratulations - my DS was 27 weeks and 980 gramms and at 18 months is fine, absolutely nothing worng with him (that we know about touch wood). He was in hosiptal for about 11 weeks and was about 7.5 lbs by his EDD. Sorry no advice as I wasn't around at the time! Just wanted you to know that it is possible to have a healthy outcome

mozhe · 05/07/2007 22:17

Thanks for that kewcumber.....does he have any developmental delays at all ?

Congrats and welcome baby mozhe

Kewcumber · 06/07/2007 16:36

Hi mozhe - he had a full developmental assessment when he as 17 months (14 months adjusted) and the result was - bugger off don't come and see us again there's nothing wrong with him.

They do allow them (the sub 1kilo babies)a little longer to catch up - it can be up to four years. but currently developmentally he is somewhere between his calendar age and his biologocial age. At 19 months, he's not speaking yet but has very good understanding, is "pre-verbal" if you know what I mean, scored well on the "put the circle in the hole shape sorter'y" tests. Generally a very happy, very active absoutely on target (so far) little boy.

You probably know that tiny premmies are more prone to learning difficulties and behavioural problems but certainly no sign of any yet. No eye sight, hearing or CP problems either.

mozhe · 06/07/2007 19:04

That's all really good to hear kewcumber.....today all he really did was sleep !!! No complaints about that

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 06/07/2007 19:58

and I don't know what the research is into premmies that are held vs those that are left alone but my son was on his own from birth to 3 months in the hospital until he was moved to the baby home - not a single visitor. It doesn't seem to have adversely affected him (fingers crossed)

mozhe · 06/07/2007 22:32

if my work ,( with very disturbed families ), has taught me anything it is that children are remarkably resiliant.......most children grow up fine regardless...

Congrats Mozhe and welcome Tristan

mymatemax · 07/07/2007 21:50

Congratulations & welcome Tristan, good to hear he is doing so well.
DS2 was born at 28wks, just remember to enjoy those first weeks & months as you would a term baby, don't forget to take lots of photos etc & squeeze in as many cuddles as you can!
Take care of yourself too.

Kewcumber · 08/07/2007 19:56

Mozhe - could I ask you a really really big favour of you? When DS gets to about 960g (if you remember) would you take a photo of him with something to give him some scale. I know it sounds bizarre but I would like DS to have something for his life book showing how little he was at birth (obviously I have no photos) and it's pretty hard to find people who have premmie's and cheekily say "please take a photo for me"!

Sorry if thats too bizarre - you can tell me to bog off

hatwoman · 08/07/2007 20:00

Congratulations mozhe. hope everything continues well and that he's able to come home with you before long.

wrinklytum · 08/07/2007 20:10

Cogratulations,Mohze on your lovely little boy.

FWIW I was born at 28 weeks gestation, weighing 2lb 4oz,was vented then in incubator for 3 months. That was 35 years ago and have no health issues now,and though no genius I am educated to postgraduate level

Hope the latest addition continues to progress well

ScottishMummy · 08/07/2007 20:37

awww mozhe congratulations hope u and the beautful boy are well - oh so tiny ...make sure u take pictures and keep the wee clothes to reminfd yourself it goes so quickly
oh and u can order preemie nappires from tesco online as mothercare and boots always sell out. mothercre and boots (mini mode) do preemie sizes

have u picked a name yet - i know u had a thread

liaise with scbu staff, try to rest and take care, my thoughts are with you and your family

i had a wee one (4lb)but not that wee but once he got the swing of eating there was no looking back,

babyjamas · 09/07/2007 11:28

mohze

dd2 was a 27 weeker - like you had already had 2 prems (31 weekers) but this was a whole different ball game. Can't pretend it was an easy time (nearly 11 weeks in SCBU with the usual ups and downs associated with prematurity) but 16 months later little Jemima is not so little and is absolutely fine and doing everything she should be doing for her corrected age of 13 months. Just to say also that all the orther 27 weekers who were in SCBU with her all came home pretty much fit and healthy.

ScottishMummy · 09/07/2007 13:41

babyjamas - what a nice encouraging story!!so happy things worked out for u

mozhe · 09/07/2007 14:27

Of course Kewcumber.....a little wait though, he is 700grms today...hopefully will start climbing now
