.....in fact a lot earlier ! Born during the night of the 27th and 27 weeks gestation. He is doing well...though very wee at 775 grms. Early days....
Any words of wisdom/advice from fellow prem parents ? Our DTs were 32 weeks but this is another league...

no experience of prem babies but wanted to send congrats
make sure you take care of yourself too

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/07/2007 11:08

Congrats mozhe You sound very calm.

Hope Tristan continues to do well and you have him home very soon. And that you can get rid of the nits!

Look after yourself.

mozhe · 02/07/2007 11:08

No holding yet.....though did very briefly after the birth,so am with that atm...
I think at best will be 10-12 weeks before home, that is what they are saying but my sis,( who is obstetrician ), think that is a bit on the conservative side...any midwives/SCBU folk/OBs ? Difficult to say I know as very early days....but everything absolutely ok atm so fingers crossed X

Congratulations

Ladymuck · 02/07/2007 11:12

The rule of thumb seems to be to assume that they will stay in hsopital until due date, but in practice I think a fair number get out at equivalent of 36-37 weeks. To be honest a lot of this seems to be due to bed management here, so France may be different?

mozhe · 02/07/2007 11:13

Have lots of help on home front....will be going home today/tomorrow....and have,( vry handily ), a little human breast pump there too in the form of DT2 who is still feeding voraciously....and has been staying in hospital with me !! Think she is quite relieved she doesn't have to share just yet...

Mozhe, congratulations! And wishing lovely Tristan all the best. It must have been a big shock - make sure you have someone to look after you as there may be ups and downs in how you feel. My cousin had her little boy at 26 weeks (due to pre-eclampsia), and it was a hard time for everyone - he weighed under 700g - but he is now nearly 4, well and happy.

harleyd · 02/07/2007 11:15

congratulations!

mozhe · 02/07/2007 11:18

Having never had a very fast birth.....that was the shock ! One moment...wake up in bed...think,'I need a pee'...next minute huge flood all over loo floor...what seemed lik a nano second later he was born on the floor....loads of charging in and panic all round...DH missed it too ...

Oh and make sure that you go to your medical appts. It is very easy to forget to take care of yourself in these situations especially as you are spending so much time in hospital etc. I've had a number of friends with premmies who have ended up with anaemia.

justbeme · 02/07/2007 11:19

Huge Congratulations to you - Cant imagine what it must be like, but feel sure the MN lot will give you all the advice you could need!! Look after yourself.

belgo · 02/07/2007 11:19

Mozhe, did you have any indication that he was going to be early?

Glad that one of your children can stay with you! Not sure if that would happen in the NHS...

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2007 11:21

10-12 weeks does sound quite short but it is at least a sign that they think Tristan is doing quite well already. Often the biggest hold up if things are progressing well otherwise, is the feeding. as he won't be doing that on his own for a few weeks yet it will be hard to tell. That guess comes from their experience of other 27 weekers who were doing as well as Tristan at this stage.

mozhe · 02/07/2007 11:27

belgo...I had a suspected leak of amniotic fluid on the 26th, so they kept me in to monitor...otherwise all was fine...
You're right I must be careful re;anaemia...lots of leafy greens/dried apricots for me....
Feel ecstatically and overwhelmingly happy ++++
Should bottle this and give it to poor epressed patients...

hippmummy · 02/07/2007 11:59

Congratulations! Wow 27 weeks - I'm so pleased the little one is doing so well, and you sound really happy and positive .

MrsScavo · 02/07/2007 12:00

Congratulations! What a shock! a friend of mine had both of hers at 27 weeks and they're now bouncing around the place.(a little too much at times ) Good luck.

slalomsuki · 02/07/2007 12:09

All mine were prem but the closest to you was ds2 born at 28 weeks after 3 contractions.

My advice to you is get in to a routibne of visits and don't feel guily if you have to miss one for the other kids or yourself. I ran myself ragged after ds2 was born and it was my mum who had to tell me to slow down. I remember bursting in to tears when I brough him home as the structure had just gone out of my life and I had to start again. In hindsight I probably post natal depression but because of what was going on it was never picked up.

You will probably find it will be a roller coster of a ride for the next few weeks. Try to take each day at a time and also try to find out what the local SCBU targets are for getting him home. The hospitals I was at varied, one was weight...5Lbs was the target, the other was 48 hours of self feeding ie sucking regardless of weight. Try not to compare what is going on with other babies in SCBU or even other friends with babies. If you are allowed try to have as much contact as possible and if you can express some milk since when he goes on to milk feeds it will start with 0.5ml at a time and build up.

If you want to email me please do on slalomsuki at hotmail dot co dot uk

pigleto · 02/07/2007 12:16
