.....in fact a lot earlier ! Born during the night of the 27th and 27 weeks gestation. He is doing well...though very wee at 775 grms. Early days....
Any words of wisdom/advice from fellow prem parents ? Our DTs were 32 weeks but this is another league...

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2007 10:49

Congratulations. my DS wasn't prem but i am a peads nurse who as a manager of a community paeds department in my pre baby life i worked closely with the Neonatal manager and with the unit. 27 weekers do very well, obviously it is a very different start to life than a term baby and there will be sometime in hospital to come but the outlook is good. From a community persective i used to do home visits when 27 weekers went home and they were as bouncing and beautiful as any other baby.

Congratulations mozhe. I'm glad he's doing well.

My friend had a little girl at 28 weeks, it was quite a long haul with her staying in hospital for a long time and then needing extra care at home, but she's a gorgeous 3 year old now and a real sweetheart.

Have you tried contacting Bliss? They should be able to give you lots of advice and lots of emotional local support.

MrsJohnCusack · 02/07/2007 10:52

did you go for Tristan? (vaguely remember seeing that somewhere and noted it because it goes with my DD's name)

congratulations and hope all goes well for tiny baby mozhe

SoupDragon · 02/07/2007 10:52

CodHun · 02/07/2007 10:52

Enid · 02/07/2007 10:53

choosyfloosy · 02/07/2007 10:55

Many positive thoughts and best wishes for your family Mohze.

Marina · 02/07/2007 10:57

We had a tiny 24-weeker in our postnatal group. He is now a cheeky Beaver of eight and like Fio's young friend, had all the support he needed to help him catch up when he was younger. Hope you are ok mozhe, that must have been a great shock.

belgo · 02/07/2007 10:58

Gosh, Mozhe, the last thing I heard from you you were planning a home birth....

Hoping and praying that baby Mozhe will be fine and home as soon as can be expected...

Are you allowed to hold him?

how was the birth Mozhe?

mozhe · 02/07/2007 11:03

Yes he is Tristan ! He is on the 10th centile for his weight/gestational age....I am fine,( much 'finer' than after all the other births....),my only pressing prob atm is i have nits !!! Not sure if hospital or kids are the culprit..!!
He came VERY quickly.....waters broke dramatically and he arrived 20 mins later after what seemed like just 2 or 3 huge contractions..he was out before they had a chance to do anything...lucky I was in hospital already.
I am in uni hospital attached to uni where I work....so will be very convenient He has a lot of sleeping and growing to do so I think some of the time he can be left to get on with it...!
I don't really feel as though I'vehad a baby..very strange..

Wow, that must have been quite a shock! Are you in a local hospital? At least with a singleton they can't split you up. Kangaroo care is meant to be the bees knees once he is ready for that - plenty of skin on skin contact.

In terms of tips - make friends with the NICU/SCBU staff, as you'll see a lot of them. Try to get into a routine with hospital visits asap - it is hard with 5 other children, but I think that you already have some decent childcare in place? Have a chat with the staff at the hospital and see what would be the best timing of your visits and work it around time with your family. If you can face it I would even get in an extra pair of hands for a while so that in addition to having childcare sewn up you also have someone doing meals etc.

Take one day at a time - every new day is good news. Be prepared to wobble yourself - this wasn't what you had planned. Give yourself some time to grieve for the birth that you had planned.

Would alos recommend BLISS - if you give them a ring they have loads of info that they can send you - I haven't checked their site recently but you used to have to get hard copies of the stuff - the website was a bit bare.

Wishing you well over the next couple of weeks!
