.....in fact a lot earlier ! Born during the night of the 27th and 27 weeks gestation. He is doing well...though very wee at 775 grms. Early days....
Any words of wisdom/advice from fellow prem parents ? Our DTs were 32 weeks but this is another league...

Peachy · 03/07/2007 11:39

Mozhe- slightly manic consultant went abck to work about 3 days after baby being born oprematurely- ring any bells?

Klaw · 03/07/2007 12:24

In the UK, at least, the law does not allow you to work for two weeks after childbirth and this period is known as Compulsory Maternity Leave. You will not be allowed to return to work during this time.

Assume it's similar in France then, Mozhe.

Personally, I'm a mother hen about mums looking after themselves after childbirth as their bodies have just been through a very amazing process and need/deserve time to recover. If you do too much too soon you put yourself at risk of pelvic floor troubles for instance.

I think we should all get provided help for the first 40 days so that we can bond with baby and allow our bodies to recover, like some other cultures wisely do.

A girl can dream!

kslatts · 03/07/2007 16:30

Congratulations.

mozhe · 03/07/2007 18:33

Will do nothing for first 2 weeks, promise !!

Wow, must have been some shock, mozhe!

Congratulations to all the family!

belgo · 03/07/2007 18:43

Glad he's still doing well! It's good to read that.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 04/07/2007 07:15

Congratulations on your suprise early arrival. Tristan is a lovely name. I hope he'll be home with you asap.

fillyjonk · 04/07/2007 07:20

oh congratualations mozhe

i hope that you ARE getting words of wisdom, and its all ok.

mozhe · 04/07/2007 10:04

Interestingly words of wisdom very different in France to previous experience of SCBU in UK with DTs a year ago.....
The basic transmit seems to be 'don't get to attached yet....he is not out of the woods ' as opposed to 'get attached it will really help him,( and you as mum ..),grow and thrive'.
Tried to discuss attachment based theory yesterday with senior nurse on duty....' yes, yes she knew all that but IHO didn't apply to prems because they are REALLY a foetus still....
They are very kind though and defo believe in pampering maman . Coffee and patisserie are bought to you the moment you set foot in door...plus cushions/rugs to make you comfy....and nice cranial massage yesterday, as well as compulsory physio !!!
They also bark orders at DH,re; treating his wife like a queen ...ths should involve buying me exensive item of jewellry...apparently Not in the Mozhe household I told them

Congratulations Mozhe and hope the baby thrives.

How is your body coping considering you gave birth to your DT last year? I doff my cap with sincere awe and respect.

Ladymuck · 04/07/2007 10:25

Well I like the way that they treat you, but at the way they treat premmies.

In terms of going back to work my colleague gave birth at 25 weeks. The first few weeks were very rough for baby but once those were past she came back to work. Practically she lived in N London but baby was at St Thomas's, so she was near the hospital. And there wasn't that much she could do other than express. She then did take her maternity leave when her baby went home (a couple of weeks prior to his original due date). She did find the broken night a bit of a shock so long after the birth!

Whay are you truning down jewelry out of interest? Or are you running out of wanted items after 5 births?

Anna8888 · 04/07/2007 15:19

Just seen this - congratulations, hope that the baby is doing well and that you are recovering .

hertsnessex · 04/07/2007 15:30

wow, huge congrats. not sure if someoen has already mention it, but www.bliss.org.uk are worth a look.

mozhe · 04/07/2007 17:30

Think the jewelry thing is a bit demeaning imo....all the mamans here in the clinic spend all their time comparing size of their rocks..... Haven't run out of items as DH has NEVER bought me glittery stuff in exchage for baby !! I do buy my own though....We will do something really nice with whole family to celebrate Tristan's arrival when he is a bit,( well a lot...), bigger ...maybe really lavish trip somewhere ??? We went to Australia for lovely family holiday to celebrate DTs arrival.
Body holding up well...thanks

My friends do that Mozhe, an eternity ring for the forst child- I don't get it, for a start for most people the birth of a child is when they are least likely to be able to afford anything much anyway; and I am afraid that jewellery- well its just a trinket, id far rather habve a man that uses his cash to take a few weeks off to stay home and help.

kiminutter · 04/07/2007 21:02

Hi Mozhe, congratulations! My niece was born at 26 weeks weighing 1lb 14oz. She's 3 now and doing fine, as is her brother, born in January at 25 weeks! Hope little Tristan continues to do well

mozhe · 04/07/2007 22:49

Yes Mr Mozhe is taking a month off in October...hopefully just when Tristan comes home !!

Found you

You sound like you are doing amazingly well. and at the non-attachment approach, but I guess different people do different things. He sounds like he is doing amazingly well.

I'll always remember the 24wk twins that were born when I was working the hospital labs - teeny samples coming every day for months, and then the joy when they went home

Peachy · 05/07/2007 09:54

(FS, are you in Bournemouth? You mentioned there on the thread the other day? We're there this coming week).

Mozhe my Uncle was born at 28 weeks. now that might not seem hugle early BUT this was in the War and in a tiny hosital in South Wales! They kept him spoon fed and by the fire- he's now 6'3", used to play rugby for the County LOL.

How's tristan doing today?

Tortington · 05/07/2007 09:56

congrats

WaynettaWiggumSpice · 05/07/2007 09:58

Congrats Mozhe - and wishing Tristan a speedy weight gain!!!

DragonFaerie · 05/07/2007 09:58

Wow! Congratulations and welcome to the world Tristan! Hope you are all doing well.
