What one thing does your dc say which makes you go ballistic?

Mine is "I forgot!" - (or, worse, "I forgot, all right?") said in a slightly accusing tone, said as if it should be a perfectly acceptable excuse and complete explanation for anything done, not done, damaged or left behind.

'Don't know' in answer to almost any question especially when they've obviously not even given it any thought whatsoever.

'I told you so', tagged on the end of anything I've just answered. e.g.:
'Mummy, what colour is that?'
'Red darling'
'I told you so Mummy'

WTF??
It drives me well barmy.

'I can't find it' - when it is under their noses and they haven't even bothered to look.

They expect me to know where everything is and get it for them.

DS1 says OK in answer to things that quite obviously not OK.

Actually it is really difficult to get across how annoying it is but no matter what heinous crime he has commited. You can rant at him for 5 minutes and all he says is OK.

Ah - I can just about deal with "I can't find it" My ballistic is "MUUUUUUUUUM, where's my...." when it's right under their noses. A subtle difference.....

Seeker - there is a particular whine with the 'I can't find it' which is part pathetic, part accusatory, like I have deliberately hidden it. Usually whatever it is, is where they left it.

It is all about tone though, isn't it.

When it clearly is

"Er, I can't remember."

to everything!

"DS1, where are the pants I just put in your hand? What did Mrs teacher say you had to wear for the school trip to the market? Have you got any homework? Did you have a drink today?"

And

"can I have something to eat?"

As he is scraping his uneaten lunch into the bin

'Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay then' said with attitude from ds1, 6.

Oh Colditz - DS1 says that too - 'I can't remember'.

What did you do at school today?
Where did you put your shoes/bag/homework?

I particularly relate to the 'Where are those underpants I just put in your hand?'

"Nothing" in response to "what are you doing?" when I can fine while hear he's up to something! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ds1 has taken to saying 'whit' to almost everything I say to him (what but in a weegie accent)

Which results in me screaming 'SAY PARDON NOT WHIT!!!!' and sounding far too much like my own mother

"I'm bored" from 3yr old DD, meaning "I don't want to play with you or any of my toys, I just want to watch television"

In a minute

The classic teen "whateeeever" would make me see red with DD1. Oh and "muuuuum, i'll do it, ive said i'll do it, why are you going on at me" (um, because you said you would do it last week/yesterday/three hours ago!). Oh the joys of teenagers. She is 18 now and getting better, but i have a three year old so in another 12 or so years im going to have to go through it all again, i wonder what the equivalent of "talk to the hand, cos the face aint bovvered" will be then?

with DD2, its why! Come on DD we are going to the shops -why because i need to get X - why - because i need it for Y- why? Because i do - why? I just do - Why. Oh for god sake - yep, you guessed it - WHY? She is three, had speech delay so her inquisitiveness is more than welcome really but OMG i could bang my head against the nearest telephone pole.

Neice and seeker, the worrying thing for me is, i have a problem with the whole "i can't find it" thing, with my DP .

If my dcs say they can't find something that I know is under their noses I charge a 'finder's fee' of 10 cent to find it for them.

My least favourite is 'I've nothing to doooooo'

Anything said in a whiney voice.

'I'm hungry' and 'when's dinner' and 'is it dinnertime'
they start saying it until about 15 minutes after breakfast and carry on until bedtime

'That's proper cool' said by 12 year old ds1.

Also when Igo into her room she says very sarcastically "Goodbye mother" GRRRRRRRR
